2013-09-08 - September Release

Recommended Posts

You can see what they look like by going to TJ's first post... His hatched long ago.

They mentioned they aren't looking at TJs on purpose so it'll be a happy surprise.

I think the next few releases should be commons. The Coppers were meant to be Uncommon but due to the fact that drop less frequently than commons and are in high demand, they've become rare. I still haven't seen any drop in the cave on my end. I'm giving Green Opals another couple of months to cool down before even beginning to ask them in trades as people seem to only be departing with them if you give a few full body sized cadavers.

Other than that, I'm happily catching from the AP to fill up on Commons as I'm trying to get 24 of each dragon type. So taking advantage of the fact that you can hatch them immediately. I only wish I had seven different slots for those caught from the AP as I fill up quickly.

You are so right!

The Coppers and Green Opals are almost unobtainable, and such beautiful sprites!

The dragons Released have all been gorgeous but we need lots of new commons to crowd out the Blockers...

Lol, and while you're at it, wish for more hatchy spaces so you can get more of those commons you always think you should pick up but never seem to be able to spare room for!

The length of time is at most one hour, because all of the biomes are cleared out at the top of the hour for the new drop. And I really hate the term 'cave blocker'. They're commons, that's why they're there, they're common. If people would just pick up more commons we wouldn't have this problem.

The issue is that there's simply so little to DO with commons. I rather wish DC would make it so commons are something you can pick up if you want, but that you don't feel morally required to pick up. After all, DC isn't like Pokemon where even the commons can be good for battling or trading; about the only thing to do with them after you get them is build lineages. Which, ok, I might do every now and then, but there's a limit to how often I'm going to do that--and even with big lineages you usually only need a select number of CB commons. So yah, the cave either needs to find a system in which raising masses of commons isn't mandatory to keep the cave moving and the ratios good (preferable), or it needs to offer more rewards for picking them up.

Is it just mine, or are the coastal eggs taking more views to crack than the desert eggs?

My Coastals cracked first, at stage 3 now, one just went S4. The ones in the same time frame have very similar OV/UV stats.

I like to make the caves move by taking blockers when I have enough egg space to see if anything good shows up.

I do as well but many people don't.

Hmm, I think my Desert eggs cracked open faster, but that was a while ago. They've all been on the final stage for a while now.

Well, if there were a wide variety of common eggs rather than the same few that almost everyone has enough of already and almost nobody wants more of, then various people on the biomes would likely find something they want/need among the mix.

People don't just want/need metallics or whatever, but they certainly don't want to to collect a scroll full of dragons they don't want which are simply over-produced for an environment which cannot support them without artificial measures being enforced.

More generally:

Most of the people here have older computers/poor connections/disabilities or may be very young or old, while a relatively small number have speedy systems and mad clicking skillz and most of the time, most of the people are not having fun not catching things and refreshing Blockers or sacrificing their limited spaces to hold them 5 hours to dump into the AP and more and more people are losing interest in doing things that are boring/frustrating and not fun in their recreational time.

So it's in TJ's interest to make the game more fun for the majority of his site's users, in order to gain advertising revenue and keep the site going.

People have fun when they can catch Releases and misery when they can't - look at the threads to see the conversations on easy versus 'challenging' Releases.

And note the number of people (likely a small percentage of the whole) who posted that they left early to go to bed/do something constructive on the night of the Release, rather than stay up and miss sleep in a situation which too many times has brought them little or no return for their effort.

And the Flood for each Release may be the only chance many people have to ever get any of these dragons as CBs.

What may be easy for people with the before-mentioned fast systems may be almost impossible for people without them.

This is a family site with a wide variety of people around the world playing here for relaxation, fun and dragons, and if they repeatedly fail to get these here, in order to supply a relative few with a challenge on their level in an otherwise slow game not requiring (expensive) computer speed, TJ will wind up with relatively few active players.

Those of us who love our dragons and hate to miss new ones might stick around for Releases, as long as we have any hope of possibly catching any, but the discouragement levels are pretty much maxed out for many already.

Silly of us to care about a game site, I suppose, but the dragons are often beautiful and there's still a community here, although it seems to be shrinking a lot...

There is a variety (maybe not as wide as you'd like) of commons. But because they're commons, people don't want them. Take the coast for example, there's been quite a few new releases there (Blusang, Tsunami are some older ones, but the Blacktips and Black Caps added to the variety, along with others I'm probably missing), but it still moves slow. Because once the new shiny eggs or the uncommon/rare eggs are taken, it's back to Waverunners, Waterwalkers, and Waterhorses. And once people have their fill of however many of x CBs they want, they stop taking those commons. Then it'll be back to the slow biome again.

"Simply over-produced"? Because people take them to abandon them 5 hours later. :T People are generating this overproduction, not the cave. And they're doing it to grab other eggs they want. And I think this is fine.

The way I feel is... if you can't get that egg instantaneously, grow some patience, because you'll eventually get that dragon, and I think that's one reason why I hold dragcave dear, because it takes effort to get a certain egg whether it's CB or lineaged and because you have to wait for the egg to grow up.

What do you do to the caveblocker?

My MO is catch a couple from the cave and dump them to the AP so they don't take up space on my scroll. Roughly two days later, I'll go through the AP and pick up a few to hatch them within a couple of hours. Except for Release week, I usually have 4-10 hatchlings on my scroll that come from the AP.

I wish there was a BSA to incubate hatchlings that weren't incubated as eggs. That would increase my AP hatchling turnover from 2-3 per week to 3-4 per week.

I think most of people do the same thing. As long as there aren't many people who want them, they are remain caveblockers.

blues aren't too hard, but greens are rough to get.

However blue opals can breed green ones. I believe it was Rubyshoes who showed her opal parents and the egg. The parents were both blue and the egg was green.

I wish I could remember what topic it was where she showed it.

I still don't know how I got a CB blue opal during the release. There must've been over 100 other people after the same one I got.

Actually...I see that lots of people, when there was that every 5 minute release, spam clicks on every 3 eggs. Thus, when there is even 1 single empty egg slot, once the 5 minute madness is over, the 3 egg spaces are open. Once I hatch my eggs, I'm going to fill my spots with blockers before I sleep/go to school, I'll then simply abandon them in the mourning. Voila. Problem solved of waiting time.

But, I see many people stressing about not getting an egg, but after all, this is a game. Though I was also whining the last release. X3 But...once the flood of releases is over, you can just wait a week before trading to get some 2nd gens. And I've seen (and traded biggrin.gif) with some very generous people who give them away for free, or just wanted something basic, like a Pink or a Red.

Also, once the craze is over, I'll go back to my daily schedule of giving homeless eggs a second chance, and begging the DragCave egg monitering mod(s) if I can get an Unbreedable, or a CB Blusang/Copper/Gold/Silver/Golden Wyvern.

I noticed that too that they are taking longer to crack. There is my cb copper and it already has less views and is cracking while the new ones have nary a crack showing at 4 days and 7 hours yet they have more views than the copper egg. blink.gif

This was news to me. I looked it up after reading your post, and here is the topic where she showed it if anyone is interested. Although apparently it was a blue bred from two green Opals, not the other way around.

It seems so unique, I kind of want mine to do that!

I just don't see the point of using my time to move the same unwanted eggs from the cave to the AP. I really don't know what can be done about the ratios and the blocking, but I'm happy with my eggs from the release.

My new release eggs have a stage 2 crack, exactly the same as the Olive egg I bred right after catching (which has similar stats).
