Infinis undoubtedly is the one to ask, but as a Californian, I tend to say Cal-ih-Jeen.

Since Caligene was modified from a Latin word I assumed it was like kal-ig-eh-ney or kal-ig-ney.

I was also assuming kal-ig-eh-ney. Caliginous (where it came from) is pronounced ca-lidge-in-ous.

In answer to the first question: I have no idea.

In answer to the second: There's a hidden part of the forum that's only accessible by artists who have something in the cave. The qualified people (or "in-cave spriters") can be identified by the artist's palette below their name. () I assume in there is where the holiday dragons are created. I know that any dragons that have been started outside, in the public forum, cannot be used as a holiday dragon.

Anyone, whether they are an in-cave spriter or not, is allowed to submit their holiday dragons ideas to TJ. He then chooses from available submissions. It is not based on who sprited it. Though some spriters' dragons are chosen more than others.

Pretty much, seems like only special releases will get spriters alts.

 

TJ chooses just like he chooses any other dragon. He picks from the available pool of dragons of whatever he thinks is fitting.

 

Anybody can PM their completed holiday concept to TJ for consideration. It just has to have been done in secret (not a public concept).

Do we have to make a thread for any dragons we suggest, even if we do everything ourselves? It seems most of the suggestion threads have multiple people working on them. Should I still make a thread?

I believe so. For one thing it will give you a chance to get some crit on your dragon to make improvements as you go.

If they refuse to go near each other <dragon a> will show up greyed-out at the bottom of <dragon b>'s breeding list and cannot be selected. So going at it in the opposite direction will not succeed. Once a refusal, always a refusal. The only exceptions are holiday dragons during their own holiday season, when refusals for holiday dragons are turned off.

...But <dragon a> shows up normally on <dragon b>'s list right now. Is that a bug? ...Perhaps it is because he is a holiday, and I bred them last haloween?

Edit: I just checked, Cubrosna no longer shows 'reject' for Aetheriox. She did a few days ago. Hmm... Should I expect her to have a new opinion about him now, or would trying to breed them before next halloween be asking for a re-reject?

If they have refused before I would not expect her opinion to change. You will undoubtedly get another refusal, but I suppose it can't hurt much to try. Even if they do refuse again you haven't lost anything because the refusal will be reset for Halloween breeding next year anyway.

You are free to submit anything to TJ directly, but it would be easier to keep track of if it could be listed some place like the completed list. Plus, with public concepts, you have the benefit of extra eyes, which means more people to give concrit so that your dragon can be better and hopefully have more of a chance for the cave.

 

You can do all the art and writing yourself, but opening it up to the public could help make your dragons better, as well as put it somewhere already organized for TJ to find. ^^

I just checked my Pumpkin girl who refused 3 Pygmy mates in a row but I kept the last one for only-Halloween-breeding purposes.

As I tried to breed them on Halloween I had to enter the breeding page from the Pumpkin girl's side. She still showed as rejected when I'm tried to breed them out of the Pygmy's breeding page.

 

Now both stands and the first spot on each others breeding page as if they had never refused... Couldn't resist to try them again even I was sure they will refuse again (she didn't liked him before Halloween so why should she now) and of course they refused as expected.

 

But it's still weird.

Holiday behaviour of formerly-refused mates is always a bit strange (Who knows what they had in their food during that time!) but if they refused once, they always (sans holiday) will.

(Personally, I believe the refusal check is a formula that involves both dragons' codes - and those never change in a dragon's lifetime, hence the consistent refusal of pairs involving holiday breeds.)
