Naming, after parents.

That's awesome, I'll have to try to do this for my AP dragons from now on. That is, unless they're sorely inbred-- don't think they'd want a reminder of their parents in that case....

I love to name after the parents recently I snagged a pink but neither the parents were named but their scroll owner had their name showing so I slipped that in the dragons name.

 

I've been getting a lot of unnamed parents lately so I've hit a speed bump on my fun there though.

I have a pink dragon named Strykiir, she had a pink daughter not named after her but had a beautiful name, Shal Seraphina Nissa. This dragon's pink male offspring was named Shal Strykiir Pearlskye, my Strykiir's grandson ~<3

Now this is just weird. I have two dragons called Hoshiyoru and Elemental Zekrom, right? Their child got called Hoshiyoru Elemental Zekrom. D

i named one of my dragon's offspring after its grandfather, but i don't know who owns the grandparents.

 

the only one of my dragon's offspring that isn't on my scroll was from a failed trade, and it doesn't have a name...

I bred my alt black, Tenaro, with my vine, Nytefly, and abandoned the egg. Later, I saw that one of their children was named Nyte's Tenor. But the hatchling vanished, I don't know where it went.

When I bred my tan Ridgewings I traded their hatchling. Since i hadn't named the parents yet I asked the new owner of the hatchling if they had a preference, they didn't, but since I usually name my dragon's "platedlizard's Something" they named the hatchie Platedlizard's D'Alsea. I googled "Alsea" to see if it meant anything, and discovered that it was a Native American tribe in my area (alternatively named Ulsea as well). So the parents became platedlizard's Alsea (female) and platedlizard's Ulsea (male)

I love naming my AP dragons after their lineage and do it whenever possible. However, my scroll is all in Chinese so I can only use names that can be translated. There are some lovely made-up names in some of my dragons' ancestors, and I hate not using them. I did translate 'Dorkface' since I have a couple of those and it came out 'stupid silly face hole'

 

I kind of feel bad for people who get one of my APs because it's a lot harder to use names you don't understand.

"Frankly Lovely" is mine, I couldn't come up with a good name based on its parents' that wasn't too long or already taken, so I named him after his code. "Honestly Lovely" is someone elses. I can only assume that they were trying to name their dragon and had the same problem I did, so they went for a sibling instead!

Normally I would appreciate it, but in the one case that it happened, I was annoyed. The person named his/her dragon "Atlantic'o" (because the father Coastal Waverunner was named "Pacific'o"), but my female Coastal Waverunner happens to have the name "Atlantic'a" and the similarity irritates me. I'd prefer if people were more original about this, although I'm not mad at the person who did this.

I like taking half of the Father's name and half of the Mother's names and making a new name. If the parents aren't named, I take another name of that dragon's lineage. The only exceptions to these are my Purplehatch Legacy Purples, which are generally named after the mother.

I was on Yarold's going through links. And I came across a scroll and noticed one of the hatchies had the surname (Verre) I give some of my dragons. So I look and sure enough one pair of the grandparents are my dragons. The person (I know who it is ) named this dragon after both sets of grandparents and one of the parents. So yeah, seeing my dragons surname in there was a nice surprise. :] I love when I happen upon people using my surname.

Im trying to name every Balloon dragon with the surname Baloo. My adult female has that, and her hatchling.

I have a Dragon called Midnight the 1st, as I was intending to call her 1st black egg Midnight the 2nd. However, she stil has'nt had a black egg... at all.

However, what I found really sweet, was one of her AP goldfish dragon babies was named 'Midnight the goldfish' by it's new owner. That made me really happy.

Three of my first four eggs were lineaged eggs from the ap. I named each according to some connection in their families and my own plan for lineages. The first three are:

Dark Rebellion

Lapis Ocean Sky

Lapis's mother is Azure Sky, but way back in her Gold dad's lineage is Lapiz Lazuli, also a Water Dragon.

 

I have picked up five other lineaged ap eggs so far. While I did not have a real connection to Dani'el's parents, I think I did pretty good for all the others. Gift of Logic was from an unnamed heritage, codes only, but Gift of Peace was the daughter of Gift of Sairy and Jenntu, and hatched on John Lennon's 70 birthday as well. Morgan Le Black (instead of Le Fay) was a great ap find for my Stargate project. She is the daughter of Sirius Lee Black, and is the great-granddaughter of Samantha Carter on her mother's side. My newest find is Soylent Sage, son of Terrestrial Sage and Soil and Green. Incidentally, Soylent Sage has NO problem eating people!

My first set of dragons are about to mature and I'm glad I read all of this. Gave me a few ideas and I had been wondering if I should name the one AP I got after its parents/lineage. I wasn't sure if it was considered rude to use someone's naming scheme. Seeing all these posts has made me want to pick up a more AP eggs though!

i fuse the names quite often when i don't have my own name for a dragon. or if the parents' names are too epic to pass up, lol.

 

i wish people would do it to more of my dragon's offspring, but hey it's their dragons.

I just happened to check on the offspring of one of my pinks. Seems I have a case of one dragon managing to start a teeny baby lineage by himself.

I only just noticied, but I think this beauty was named after her brother (owned by me) and father (owned by me). It makes me smile.

 

EDIT: Lookie here! Yay. Midnight now has two beautiful babies named after her, and if she ever gives me a black egg, it will end up at least 3.

Hah! I just checked on a clutch of three pumpkin eggs I bred - I kept one and gifted the two others to two different people. I always name my holiday dragons with a "tag" at the beginning which is the first three letters of the holiday's name in Saurian, so for Halloween it is "Xuc" and my dragons are Xuc Eidolic, Xuc Cadaverous, etc.

 

Well, both of these people named their hatchlings "Xuc ___". I never told them to or even told them what it means, they presumably just named them that because that's how I name mine. Haha, thank guys, you made me smile.
