I think you're meant to go east first (assuming you only just entered the cave)

How do I get past the spider?

I can't figure out which command will make the Red Dragon come back. I've picked up several items but every time I say 'Wait for Red Dragon' it doesnt work, and 'Look for escape' also doesn't work. How am I supposed to progress the story if the dragon won't come back.

Have you looked around in other parts of the cave? Maybe there's something it wants. If you aren't running away immediately, you can TALK TO SPIDER for a clue (I'm sure about this one because my boyfriend did it )

What box?

When you first enter the cave you can go east or south. Go east first, because south is the way the story continues.

Once you've gone south, you need to go into the south room first.
