got to keep this one. I have a very vague guess about what the rule might be--might it be opposites? next time I'm going to try to breed a Xenowyrm with a dragon that is it's opposite biome and element...

I find it very funny that the most voted for result in the poll is the 'None, it's random, Birdz is trolling us!'

Birdz said to disregard that one. There was a bug of some sort in the breeding mechanics at the time, it seems.

They actually look quite nice ohmy.gif I was just looking for a blue mate for my Chronos, and this looks lovely.

Will breed more tomorrow, I plan on doing some Xeno x Xenos.

99.9% sure the result Xeno egg is decided based on the biome of the non-Xeno mate. Not sure about Xeno/Xeno breeding, but yeah.

So it looks like the oddballs from Xenowyrms bred with non-Xenowyrms in the spreadsheet are because of the non-Xeno's parent's biome. The result was the Xenowyrm that drops in that parent's biome.

Thalassa x Moonstone (Desert) = Mageia (Desert)

Magma (Volcano) x Mageia = Pyro (Volcano)

Hellfire (Volcano) x Chrono = Pyro (Volcano)

White (Alpine) x Chrono = Astrapi (Alpine)

White (Coast) x Chrono = Thalassa (Coast)

Chrono x Blue Gemshard (Jungle) = Gaia (Jungle)

Summer (Forest) x Gaia = Chronos (Forest)

Gaia x Mistletoe (Alpine) = Astrapi (Alpine)

Grave (Jungle) x Pyro = Gaia (Jungle)

Pyro x Desipis (Jungle) = Gaia (Jungle)

But I can't explain these ones in the sheet

GoN (no biome) x Gaia = Pyro

Chrono x Chrono = Gaia ???

Xeno x Xeno seems to be randomized. Kind of like how stripe x stripe make a random color.

While it does seem that Xeno eggs that don't follow the Xeno parent ARE influenced by the other parent's biome, that obviously isn't a 100% chance of changing the egg. Either a 1/5 or 1/4 chance that the opposite parent's biome influences a Xeno egg.

I'd say the quirk mentioned refers to biome-less dragons which seem to also produce randomly in the odd chance of it not following the Xeno.

Maybe this is due to the fact that the Forest and Jungle are kinda more like plant ish, and the little Gaia is bred due to this? Not sure, just a thought.

GoN x Gaia = Pyro

Perhaps this is because in order to create GoNs, you need a Thunder, an Ice, and a Magma.

I'd say the quirk mentioned refers to biome-less dragons which seem to also produce randomly in the odd chance of it not following the Xeno.

But 7/8 of the offspring of the no biome parents in the sheet follows the Xeno parent. If it was random, we'd see more oddballs. Maybe it follows the Xeno parent, and that GoN x Gaia is another anomaly?

So my theory is that breeding a Xeno with a non-Xeno can result in:

1) The Xenowyrm parent's breed

2) The non-Xenowyrm parent's breed

3) The Xenowyrm that drops in the biome of the non-Xenowyrm parent

With Xeno x Xeno = random Xeno

Xeno x no biome = parent Xeno

"in the odd chance of it not following the Xeno."

i.e. that 1/5 or 1/4 chance that I mentioned.

eta: So I went snooping to see if the Gaia x GoN= Pyro was an error, but from looking around Jazeki's (original breeder) scroll, it really is there. It is possibly an anomaly, but there's no way to tell without more data.

You've got to consider that people might not report results they consider boring/unsurprising or repeats of existing results, so our results will probably be skewed somewhat in the direction (numbers-wise) of pairings that produced a Xeno different to the Xeno parent. We can use it to determine what's possible but not how frequently it occurs.

We should probably try to see if the Elemental Affinity has any influence on the resulting offspring by breeding more biome-less dragons with Elemental Affinities to Xenodragons of a different element. I've got a few Cave dragons lurking in my scroll I'll try to pair up to help out.

That's definitely a good point. Personally I'd like to look through some click sites to get an overall estimate. That's pretty much impossible at the moment though. Most breedings are probably going to the ap backlog and there are hardly any 2nd gens to stumble across on click sites.

For the time being, this thread and the spreadsheet are the best gauges for frequency, despite the chance of skewed data. It's the only spot to see large enough numbers of breedings and their results.
