What do YOU want to do when you grow up?

I've wanted to be a marine mammal trainer ever since I was seven. I'm in school majoring in Zoology w/ concentration in Zoo/Aquarium Science, and volunteering at my local zoo, so that dream is slowly starting to become a reality.

I'm in my last year of school and I still don't exactly know what I'll do afterwards. (And I'm almost 20 years old *sighs*)

 

What I would really love to do is illustrating books, especially children's books. Or something else where I can make use of my talent.. But there are so many possibilities o_o

This is my last year in school (it feels quite terrible, lol, I don't want to grow up)... I've dreams about to become a photographer... But I also want to become an author and write novels.

It would be really fun to work in a printing house (hrm... is it even called that in english? I don't know... it's called "tryckeri" in swedish...) too, that's what I'm doing in school and it's really fun.

 

The thing is that it's almost impossible to get a job in any of those three things, so I've no idea what I should do with my life if it doesn't turn out according to my plans... Maybe study a bit more if that's the case.

I'm interested in economics- theoretical, not business- and possibly law school after, but my parents (who are paying for much of college and thus able to guilt-trip) think that's impractical and wish I were going into engineering or a pre-med track instead.

 

To all of you whose parents are trying to force you to be lawyers, I'm sorry ;__;

To all those people wondering about what to do - there is nothing wrong with getting a job that *isn't* what you love if it's going to pay the bills and give you enough money to do what you love outside of work. Neither my partner nor I are in jobs we went into because it's 'what we always wanted to do' (no one works in a supermarket, or as a meter reader, because they love it) but for us it's just a means of funding the lifestyle we enjoy.

 

If you want to be an author or an artist that's great - go out and get a boring job to pay the bills, and spend your spare time writing or drawing. Many great creative minds have lived for years doing boring jobs to pay the bills before they got a big break. You don't have to try and find 'work' in the industry, or write a bestseller at the age of 18, in order to do what you love. You just find something else to pay your expenses while you're doing it.

Well.. for starters, a dream summer job would be working at the Fire Hall Confectionery store down on Main Street. It looks soo fun~

 

But for a real job, I have no idea what to do...

I had a few ideas... but I'm not sure if I could go into any of them. D:

There are those artist things that I really want to go into, like.. singing or photography but it's too hard to support yourself with that, and I don't think that I'll be able to make it, since I don't believe in myself and the ones that earn a lot are only the really popular big artists, so that kind of crossed itself out..

Well, second would be a marine animal trainer. I think dolphins would be a good choice since I really like to work with intelligent animals. Maybe at Marine Land... Well.. must try to decide before it's too late.

I want to be a Theoretical Physicist at Caltech!

 

I'm well on my way down the road for a Ph.D. in Physics, albeit experimental physics, so getting a job at Caltech is just the next step after that. We'll see, we'll see.

I'm a lab assistent and it was my dream job. I wanted to get into research. But that's not easy, they look for specialists and don't take persons who just got their exam. Now I work in the area of material testing. It's OK, I have no problem with doing this for the next 40 years (and I learned that you don't get paid well in research). I can't imagine doing something else that lab assistent. WOrking with people or doing a desk job would drive me nuts.

I just finished school last week (in australia) and some of my friends are already working full time! Thats some crazy stuff. I dont know what I really really want to do, but i am going to try and be an electrician.

I am a Automotive Technician but sadly I jumped the gun on that one so it isn't exactly what I want to do. ):

What I want to be is a Personal Trainer or something of the sort, I enjoy helping my family and friends in their weight loss goals.

I'm retired now, and a granny - a couple of life's ambitions ! Once I had the perfect job in a doctor's office. But I had to leave - family move.

 

The next decent job I had drove me nuts. In the end, in hospital, they taught me that the job is just what you do to get the money you need to enable you to do what you want in your spare time. That was the best thing I EVER learned. If more people could GET that, their lives would be that much easier. Sure it is wonderful to get THE job that fits you - but most of us never achieve that.

I'd love to become a doctor or a dentist someday. Getting in to the school is very difficult though, and studying near the capital is very expensive.

I want to work with animals. It feels good to save a creature that you love. And I really love cats, lizards, and other animals.

Maybe i'll be a zoo keeper but sometimes I want to be a palentogist or something like that. (someone who studys dinosaur bones)

I want to go into the military. Preferably Marines. But that probably won't work out because I have scoliosis. Yay for paper disqualifications.

 

Barring the military, I'm going to law school after college and either going to be a prosecutor or apply at the FBI.
