New Holiday Dragons?

So, between Valentine's day and Halloween there's not much going on in terms of holidays on DC.

Almost every time I've gone inactive was during the about 8 months in between holidays.

I've been thinking for a while that there should be something during that time to make things more interesting.

 

Big problem is that I don't know what holiday would even fit there.

I mean, there is the 4th of July but, since that's a US holiday it wouldn't really work in DC.

The summer solstice is another idea but I don't know what kind of dragon would be made for that.

Or we could just say screw it and make our own holiday.

 

In conclusion, should there be a new holiday event dragon added? If so, what holiday?

But we have the DC birthday during the summer. Granted, it's not always accompanied by a dragon release, but it's still an event that happens. I like having a period where we don't have to worry about super special dragons, since it seems like there's this huuuge busy gauntlet as soon as Halloween rolls around. You have Halloween, and then two months later Christmas, the raffle results in January-February, and then Valentine's and THEN Easter. It's also busy because many have school during that time.

 

I do wish there was more activity during the summer, but at the same time I like the break from all the holiday madness.

Even though the period between valentines day - halloween is very long, its a pretty good rest period. Halloween, Christmas and Vday are actually pretty close together, and I enjoy having that time in which I don't feel like I'm obliged to log in every day in fear of missing exclusive material (like most pet/sim sites out there. Don't log on for one day, and -dun dun- you missed out on an item/pet that was announced and released for THAT day only!).

And once I'm outta school, I want to spend my summers outdoors! Not inside, panicking over dragon releases. haha

I know a lot of people like the time of rest between holidays, and I do too but 8 months is too long.

That why I suggest it be in June or July so there are still a few months of rest.

 

And yeah, there is DC's birthday, but that's never been accompanied by a special edition dragon.

Though, it could. There could be some kind of celebration dragon available during that week.

I remember TJ saying something about not having a holiday dragon to release during the summer because nobody has made one for a holiday that falls during summer?

 

We could have a Dragon Cave Holiday-Day made, where in the DC Universe the population celebrates some perspective of the year. On another forum, World of Umbria, they have in-universe holidays that don't co-inside with the real-world holidays. So maybe we could get some lore about DC holidays? I think 8 years is plenty of time to figure out just how our fantasy world works.

I'm not biased towards or against any specific holiday in terms of picking event dragons.

 

It's all down to what dragons are submitted. I can't release dragons that I don't have.

 

People might also be interested in the Summer Event thread: http://forums.dragcave.net/index.php?showtopic=145769 which I would really prefer over another holiday release. I like the addition of permanent dragons and another holiday release would take more of these away from us. I can understand people wanting something to do, though, so I'd support the event. Perhaps it could be something that is not so intensive on the artists doing a bunch of writing or artwork every summer. Such as all past events open again so people can run through them (which doesn't give people who haven't been through an event much to do) or something that just repeats every year - like some kind of cake decorating that you can play with ever year and some new items can be added if artists have time.

 

I know summer is probably a better time to do holidays because people aren't usually bogged down with school and people get vacations and time off, but I just really prefer regular releases to holiday releases.

I personally find 3 special-egg-releasing holidays very enough.

 

If the monthly regular releases are telling me anything, it's that I'm the type of person that quickly finds something interesting to become stale if it keeps happening on a very regular basis.

Maybe not ONE dragon, but last year it had a week of seven dragons released, and this year it had the Avatars. How are they not "special edition" dragons? I guess they aren't just like the holiday dragons, but I think they're enough.

I would like a chance to re-do my tree and wreath. I would also like to play with my snowfort and gingerbread house. Maybe we can convince TJ to open these again during the summer months? Maybe a 3 moth period where we can all play them again. I'd like that instead of a special dragon release.

She said that in her first post, that since it was a US holiday it wouldn't work.

 

But otherwise, I'm in the no thanks category, too. I prefer regular releases during the summer.

I'd be okay with this as long as it was well-announced beforehand I've noticed that DC seems to die down a bit during the summer, and while there's nothing wrong with that, anything that keeps users invested and coming to the site often is good in my books.

 

I think I'm neutral on whether or not it should just be an 'event' or a holiday treated the same way V-Days, Christmases and Halloweens are, but I'm definitely in favour of something!

I quite like this idea. No raffles, no fancy dragons, just playing with what you already have!

I wouldn't object to a simple event like our annual egg hunt, if people really wanted a holiday event. It could be themed after Dragon Cave's world lore, which is slowly being built. I dunno, A Celebration of the Guardian week, where we have a week to collect stuff? Around the end of June might be a good time. I'm ok with a holiday dragon for the mid-summer event too, though I don't really want it to replace our permanent drop for the month either.

 

I'm not in favor of a major event then. I think the events we already have that involve major interactive things are enough.

Agreed. It is hard enough to chase after decent lineages of holiday dragons if we weren't around to catch the CBs.

Personally, I really like the way things are handled right now. We have a holiday season with a new holiday dragon and a holiday event coming up every two months (roughly) and hardly any regular dragons being introduced. And we have the off season where we get lots of new regular breeds, can go on Easter egg hunts, celebrate DC's birthday and do whatever else dragon cavers do during that time.

This post isn't quite being used in the correct context. That thread was about event dragons for winter holidays that weren't Christmas-themed. The point of my post was that my choices for winter Holiday dragons are limited by what dragons that have been submitted, thus if all of the submitted dragons have some sort of Christmas influence, then I can't release a non-Christmas-related dragon.

On one hand, it'd help fill the long space between Valentine's Day and Halloween. On the other, the Halloween -> Holidays -> Valentine's Day rush leaves me very little time to work on other things (like features). This would be less hectic than that time period, but I'd say the concern is still legit.

The new Holiday-summer-period could be once every 4 years like the Olympic games. Two weeks of games and challenges that require users interaction (like the snow ball event).

This would give you time to work on features. I also think it would be good to encourage users to send their suggests to you about games and events for the game. They should do it in secret, of course.

Uh no, it would be overwhelming because there is way too many people for that.

 

On the 4 year rotation-I don't see it as a good thing if it requires a dragom release. What if I miss a sprite?

Then how about giving us a playtime with past events? I'd like to edit my unholy mess of a wreath, my very bland tree, and have more fun with my snowfort and gingerbread house.

 

Concerning the snowfort and unlocked decorations: Can we just have all the Decos unlocked, as well with the tree? Since, you know, the voting period is over for the trees now.

 

We all had so much fun with those events, I think it shouldn't be too much trouble activating them again, would it? I don't know since I have no idea what your code looks like.

 

This way we can have fun, and you can have the time to work on your planned features.
