@AAurion: I've started a reread of the Sword of Truth series myself. I never finished the series the first time I read through them, though. Got tired of waiting for the books after book 9 or so.

Book Number: 69

Book Title: Wizard's First Rule [reread]

Author: Terry Goodkind

Rating: 3/5

Review: I remember really liking this book the first time I had read it. It was more violent and graphic than I was used to, but the writing and story was compelling enough that I cared for the characters, I bought into the world and their magic, and I wanted to find out how everything ended. Years later, rereading it more critically, the flaws and similarities to other books tended to jump out at me. I found myself rolling my eyes at the Gollem look-alike, and going, "Hey, that type of society sounds familiar - from another book", etc. There were also other things that I had a problem with, but for the sake of brevity, I will leave it at this.

My favorite in The Sword of Truth series is #6, Faith of the Fallen.

I first found them when I was a Freshmen. I stopped rereading the series a year or so after I graduated High School.

I should read the entire series over again, I keep rereading Anne Bishop instead. I wonder if I will find those flaws you mentioned too.

To Stay on topic.

Book Title: Night Call

Author: Radclyffe

Review: Very graphic with the hospital stuff, and there was a couple in the book that I swear have to be part of a different book, cause she sorta expects the reader to know their history and I didn't. I hate when that happens. Overall good book.

I'm also listening to yet another audio (yay for listening to audios while I Crochet) and, don't throw rotten vegetables at me please, I am also half way through New Moon. I am also reading Mystic and Rider but I am unsure if I am going to finish that one.

I've read Faith of the Fallen but I don't remember it. I started reading Terry Goodkind I think in high school? Maybe college? Stopped reading at Pillars of Creation. I am looking at the list of the books and I believe that this one is the 7th book. Faith of the Fallen is listed as the 6th. While I was willing to continue reading the Wheel of Time books as soon as they came out, I wasn't so willing to do so with the Sword of Truth series. I had started reading negative reviews about this series, and was forced to agree that there was a lot of preaching towards the later books. Later found out that it was Objectivist philosophy (and what that is, I'm not certain). Also, there was so much drama and negative things going on that I wasn't sure I could stomach it. But now I feel the need to complete the series; hence, the reread of the earlier books. *sigh*

I too tend to reread Anne Bishop's Black Jewels books as comfort rereads. smile.gif

Review: So far, cute romance. I think it's the first book I've ever read with the setting in New Zealand. Unfortunately, unlike the one I'd read set in Australia, this author fails to bring "New Zealand" to life with vivid descriptions. However, I like the book so far.

Will edit when I finish this in a couple of hours. Edit: Guess I was closer to the end than I had thought. Needed only half an hour. lol.

It's been a while since I read a full novel. Need to get back to actual reading..

Later found out that it was Objectivist philosophy (and what that is, I'm not certain). Also, there was so much drama and negative things going on that I wasn't sure I could stomach it.

Objectivism is Ayn Rand's philosophy. If you have to read anything on it, I would try The Fountainhead, which is less preachy and has a more stomach-able storyline than her nonfiction (heh) or other famous novel Atlas Shrugged (which has a 60 page monologue on why altruism is negative, what makes an individual happy is the most moral, everyone should believe in laissez faire capitalism, men with art are awesome, etc) or even the shorter Anthem. The most famous part of it is the totally free capitalism part and the question "Who is John Galt?" :3

Incidentally, I was trying to help a friend with her anti-Galt essay, and ended up reading half of The Fountainhead again, but I don't think half a book counts for this thread :'P

Faith of the Fallen is listed as the 6th.

Yes, it is the 6th, sorry bout that. Faith of the Fallen is still my favorite, even if Richard is pulled away from Khalen. Or maybe because he is pulled away from her.

I have never heard of the Objectivism Philsophy and don't think I want to know either.

I read Wheel of Time when I was younger, about 13. I got to book 4, I think, and just stopped reading them. I don't remember why.

And yes, Anne Bishop is most definitely comfort reading. *snuggles her Anne Bishop books* Have you read her Ephemera series or the Tir Alainn Trilogy? I quite enjoyed the Ephemera series but I couldn't stand the first book in the Trilogy. I couldn't even get to chapter 2! *sigh*

(It's almost 6am and I'm too tired to copy/paste this into my other post, sorry.)

Book Title: A Secret Atlas

Author: Michael A. Stackpole

Rating: 4/5?

Review: It's sort of hard to explain. For a good chunk of the book, I wasn't sure if I like it or not. On the one hand, it's a very interesting book, with intriguing characters and an plot that kept twisting around on itself. Quite a few things surprised me! On the other hand, I felt like it would have been better with a different author. While the chapters cycled regularly between the sea expedition, the land expedition, and the political intrigue going on at the capital/with the bad guys (which is a good technique for complicated plots) he would do things like leave a cliffhanger in one chapter, then when he returned to those characters it would be...five weeks later and everything would be resolved. A few pages later, there would be a flashback to explain what had happened. I felt like certain chapters were just snapshots of the overall plot and like he wasn't explaining enough of what was going on. That said, it was still an enjoyable book and I'm very interested in getting my hands on the next two books in the series, so overall it was a good experience. smile.gif

Edit to fix typo.

lol, Kanaye. I don't mind a review of New Moon. While I don't praise Meyer's writing style, I don't condemn it (anymore) either since all it would take to excuse Meyer is remembering a certain e-book I'd purchased and did my best to forget...

I have not read Anne Bishop's other trilogies. I try not to read the rest of an author's books to avoid increasing my TBR pile and saving money. Furthermore, several years ago in the middle of my reread, I realized that I didn't care too much for Anne Bishop's writing style. She's still a comfort reread - or rather, skim-read - but when I do, I do my best not to pay attention to the writing but to the story.
