Book Title: Witches, Incorporated

Author: K.E. Mills

Rating: 4/5

Review: Haven't had very much time to read for fun lately, so I decided to go with this one instead of some of the heavier novels I've got lying around. It's a fun series. smile.gif Could've used more Monk, but then I think every work would be better with ample scatterings of eccentric geniuses.

Book Title: Virus

Author: Sarah Langan

Rating: 7/10

Review: Quite macabre, this book gives a whole new perspective on a 'zombie' apocalypse. In a small town named Corpus Christi, the virus initially spread after the disappearance of a young boy, who had been left behind after a field trip. The field trip took them to the forest near a previously burnt down town named Bedford, where a paper mill fire had devastated the buildings and surrounding greenery. Spread through saliva and blood, the virus controls or destroys its host; the chance of survival is slim to none for those who have managed to avoid contracting the virus. Not a story for the easily disturbed, this book gives the reader a vividly illustrated image as you read more and more. Overall the book was a great read, especially as the novel was the writers second published work. I wasn't even aware this book was a sequel until looking it up, the book was clearly described and reading the prequel would make it a little more understandable.

Book Title:Prentice Alvin (Alvin Maker #3)

Author: Orson Scott Card

Review: These are really good. I had to read this one, though. They had Audio for 1, 2, and 4. No three. It was odd, I kept hearing the audio voices in my head, which made it a bit hard to concentrate. None-the-less, very interesting book 3.

Review: Are you guys seeing a pattern yet? I liked this one. Though I did find it a tad strange. Hell, I love strange. The stranger, the better! Seriously though, why would he pick a high school right next to his family's home when he didn't want them to find him and kill him. That makes no sense.

Book Title: House Made of Dawn

Author: N. Scott Momaday

Rating: 4/5

Review: I always enjoy reading books about and from other cultures. It makes you think in a different way, and this is good. Things like, "Why are they doing that? It makes no sense!" or "Huh, I'd have done this instead of that" run through your head, and you have to stop and remember that your way is not the only way, and it is not always right. This book is very surreal. I do not understand everything that happened, and I don't believe all of that is because of the cultural differences. One thing that helped me is that I'm very familiar with weird chronology -- The Lies of Locke Lamora plays around with time more, and Baccano! (an anime) has a far, far screwier chronology than any book could possibly manage. I think that I shall read it again at some point, and perhaps then I shall understand it more.

Book Title: The Last Ten Seconds

Author: Simon Kernick

Rating: 8/10

Review: An amazing thriller, this book had me interested from start to finish. The novel was written in such a manner that you were able to imagine many of the characters and their actions, right down to their death defying stunts that were written well. The plot twists were amazing, I did not expect the book to pan out the way it did. The amount of sudden changes to the general plot were high, though they were described well it didn't appear rushed or boring. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading action packed thrillers.

Review: This book always teased me when I was younger, because it has a talking kitty in it so I really wanted to read it, but I had been told that it was a Scary Book. Now see, what I hadn't figured out back then was that my definition of "scary" and other people's definitions of "scary" are two different things entirely. Black magic and monsters and suspense does not to me a Scary make. In any event, I would have enjoyed this when I was ten and I enjoyed it very much now.

Review: This is a case of a freebie snaring a new convert. This book was hilarious. I nearly burst trying to hold back my laughter during my commutes. I couldn't keep the quiet the snickers that escaped or the wide grin off my face. Imagine you had the most horrendous mother-in-law ever. Imagine she finally died, and you are free of her. Or so you thought. Something kept her from crossing over and you are the only one who can see her ghost. You can't find your deadbeat husband to serve him divorce papers, there's a sexy colleague invading your small office space, and someone apparently wants to kill you. That was Maryse's life - and boy it was fun.
