Pern: A World of Dragonriders and Dragons

Sesron thought about Heedana's suggestion. He laughed for a moment. "I think one of her older songs. It would take awhile to teach you one of her new songs." He reached into his bag and pulled out his wooden flute. He took a deep breath and gently blew into it. His fingers worked into a flourish and he went up into a common tune and then stopped. "Of course, we'll have to ask her. You know how she is about people listening to her songs." Sesron rolled his eyes.

Sesania thought about what G'lor said. It was true, she rarely spoke with other people besides her brother. But then again, it wasn't like she completely isolated herself. Back at the Harper Hall, she had a few friends she enjoyed talking to. Heedana, before she had left, had been one of them.

"Perhaps things will be different here for me then," Sesania replied. "Master Harper Robinton did say I would find life here much different." she sighed and pushed away those thoughts. He had warned her about her trying to hide herself away. He had told her the dragonriders wouldn't allow her to be alone all the time. That they would pull her into the crowd. He had told her, she needed to be prepared for those situations where she would have to interact with others.

"Yes I suppose you're right," Sesania gave G'lor a warm and kind smile as she reached down to pick up her harp. She touched the smooth wood before gently wrapping her hands around the small instrument. "Could you please watch my bag?" She asked sweetly before going up to Sesron and Heedana.

"So I guess we'll be performing now then?" Sesania said softly as she walked up to Sesron and Heedana. It wasn't that she was shy about playing, she was rather confident about her music, she just didn't like getting attention.

"We were thinking one of your old pieces," Sesron said with a big, goofy grin. "You know, one from when Heedana was still at the Hall."

Sesania paled slightly. "I...I don't know," She looked around, suddenly nervous. Her songs were precious to her. When she wrote her songs, she dug deep into her heart to pull forth the words that would flow in the most beautiful way. Plummet swooshed down and landed awkwardly on her shoulder. He chirped encouragingly.

Sesania thought about it for a moment and then sighed. She looked from Plummet to her harp. "I suppose...Autumn's Dance would be fine." It was one of her older songs, one where Sesron and Heedana would sing back and forth. "Key of D minor" Sesania murmured to herself.

Shane stood there looking over the scenery. Apparently the woman who had brought him had left him to do something else so he was alone. He went to a bush and took off some of it's berries. He ate them, almost as if this wasn't an unusual occurrence to be left out of events such as meals. His brother had put it in the "best" way possible. Why feed those who are useless

Shane sat on a log and listened to the celebration occurring close by. Again, this wasn't new to him so he wasn't too upset, or so it would seem. He played with a twig he had found and eventually snapped it in half. He sighed a threw it away, hair being blew out of his pale face. For a split second you could see his sad brilliant blue eyes, a trickle of water ran down his cheek.

Zee had started to walk back to the kitchen's when she noticed that Shane wasn't coming. "Shane...why aren't you coming?" she asked then was surprised when Henath, in her old age, picked the up up by his shirt with her teeth and walked him to the kitchen. Zee was open mouthed and about to laugh when Henath sat him down gently and licked the back of his head in fond affection. "She has never acted that way towards anyone but myself...seems you have softened the old girl. Cummon now." she said and started to hobble towards the inner kitchens.

Heedana squealed in delight. "I love that song!" she said excitedly which drew the attention of everyone towards herself. "Oops...." she giggled as she ran her fingers nimbly over the strings in time to how the song was. She shifted a few chords to see if her hand would fit them better, but the others were fine. Once she learned a song, it was hard for her to forget it, so it was easy for her to go over the quickly shifting chords from memory. "Okay...I guess I'm ready." she said and did a few quick vocal scales quietly. She looked to Sesania for the opening notes were done by harp then joined by flute then accented by guitar.

G'lor nodded to Sesania and watched as she walked up. He also took note that someone else was watching her as well. E'ran. He laughed to himself and walked over to him and stood behind him. "Sooo....do you like her?" he asked him with a pat on his shoulder.

E'ran jumped when G'lor patted him on his shoulder and looked at the boy with a slight glare. "maybe." he said then turned back to watching the harpers. He sighed as G'lor kindly asked a few of the green riders to smush together so he could sit nect to E'ran. He smiled at Sesania's back and felt himself thinking that she was nervous.

Soria gave a nod and a broad smile to K'leb and skipped over to Heedana. Before taking her seat, Soria gave the woman a sisterly hug. She had high hopes for tomorrow at Lemos. Idly, she wondered how Cadyn was doing. "Hiya, Heedana. How has your day faired?"

Bambina looked around her from where she sat amongst the other candidates. She thought to herself looking to see whom she should try and befriend first. Instead of speaking, Bambina decided to bid her time. Fitting a large bit of wherry meat in her mouth, she settled to watch the show F'lar had promised.

In the stables of Lemos Hold, Cadyn rubbed a hand along Tintesk's head. He knew from Feygia that Soria would be visiting sometime in the next few weeks. He fingered the his necklace as he pressed back into the shadows to avoid being seen by the other stable hands. Maybe she'll have a present for Tintesk. We both miss her terribly, but I'm glad she's happy at the Weyr.

Heedana hugged Soria with her available arm and smiled. "Well, it seems to have been getting better and better! My friends from the Harper Craft are here and we are actually about to put on a performance for everyone. Sesron, Sesania, this is Weyrwoman Soria. She is the one in charge of the weyrlings and all the goings on with them." she said happily. "Soria, this is Sesron and Sesania. They are twins but easily distinguishable." she said with a cheeky grin. She hoped that the three of them would get along since they were all her friends whom she loved. The others seemed to be faring quite well actually in her mind.

"That is good to hear, Heedana. It's a pleasure to meet you both." Soria gave Sesron and Sesania a a welcoming smile. Ananke gave the twins a chittering welcome of her own and leaned toward them for inspection. Astraios abandoned all sense of personal space and landed himself on Sesania's shoulder. Soria's hands flew to her mouth to cover her giggle at the little firelizards' antics. "Um, the blue on your shoulder, Sesania is my Astraios and this is my gold fire lizard Ananke. I think they rather like you both."

"Shane...why aren't you coming?"

He looked over towards the direction of the voice. "Am I allowed to come..." he muttered, unsure that he wanted to be in there at all. He got up and went into the dining hall. A women with blonde hair turned to him slowly. "You!" she screamed. "You...you're not supost to be here!" the women wailed as she went up to Shane and hugged him. "I thought you said you weren't coming back ever again." she said smiling. Shane pushed the lady off of him. "Get off of me Mother. I'm not here for you, or anyone else." he spat as he walked past her and went to a corner and leaned against it, his blue eyes glaring in her direction. How dare she touch him. She was the one who suggested he go live with 'normal' people.

"My poor sweet son. What has happened to you..." she stuttered almost in tears. Another rider put her arms around the blonde and tried to comfort her. "It's not your fault he's evil." she reassured the mother. Shane rolled his eyes. Did everyone think he was evil?

Sesania laughed softly at the outburst of Heedana. She knew Heedana had liked the song in the past. After all, Sesania had written especially for Heedana and Sesron. Those two had even inspired it. One night, so many years ago, she had watched as Sesron took Heedana to the dance floor. The way the two of them had spun around, with the golden light of the fires playing around them, had been the perfect picture.

Sesania pulled up a stool and tested a few chords to just double check her harp was in tune. Instead of just gently plucking, like she had done earlier, she expertly ran her fingers along the strings. The harp sang out in vibrant and rich tones. Sesania's smile broadened a little. She couldn't help but feel proud of the little wooden instrument.

Sesron smiled encouragingly to his sister. He was happy for her choice. Autumn's Dance was one of her earliest performance ready songs she had written with her harp.

When introduced to Soria, Sesron gave her one of his huge dramatic bows. He grinned happily. "It is a pleasure to meet another of the beautiful weyrwomen here," His eyes twinkled and her gave her one of his most charming smiles.

Sesania felt like rolling her eyes. "Please excuse my brother Weyrwoman Soria. He's been like this since we were reunited with Heedana." Sesania, being Sesron's twin, could tell that her brother was being overly dramatic. Even more so than usual.

Plummet, who had been sitting on her other shoulder, chirped something and looked at Astraios from under Sesania's chin. He tried to crawl under her chin to get a better look at the other blue, only to tumble from Sesania's shoulder.

Sesania, expecting something like this to happen, lifted her harp to safety and looked down at Plummet, who was now on his back in her lap. "And this clumsy fellow is Plummet."

Sesania smiled calmly at plummet before she shooed him from her lap. She repositioned her harp and plucked out the first chord of the song. The D minor chord rang out. "Shall we begin?"

Sesron raised his flute to his lips and nodded.

Heedana smiled and nodded at Sesania. "Ready." she muttered and awaited her to start her harp. She closed her eyes as she remembered the night that Sesron had lead her onto the floor and how Sesania had written the song in a few weeks. That night, to her, was practically magical. Her heart skipped a beat and she blushed slightly as she remembered how expertly he danced.

Zee looked at the woman and they boy. "You're his mother? What you did to your child, is your own blasted fault." she said and looked at the girl that had wraped her arms around the other woman. "As for you, do not call something evil, unless it truly is. You do not see him as a dragon would and therefore do not know." before they could respond to the older woman who held authority over all who weren't walked to her spot and left a side open for him in case he wanted to sit down.

Soria gave a laugh of delight at what Sesron had done and replied with a exagerated curtsy of her own much like she had to Delom. She gave Sesania a smile and a nod of understanding. Soria could well imagine how it must feel to meet up with old friends. She gave Plummet a cooing smile and a greeting. Taking her seat Soria made sure to be out of the way. "Pleasure to meet you little Plummet. And Please don't let me interupt."

Sesania started the song with her soft chords. The chords grew louder until Sesron joined in with his flute. Sesania closed her eyes as she let her fingers continue on. She didn't need to look to know what her hands were doing. She had been playing her harp for so long her hands had memorized ever inch and curve of the instrument.

Sesron's wooden flute was a match for his sisters harp. It would be long until Heedana joined in with her guitar and the first verse of the song. He had to force himself not to grin, grinning would make it harder to keep such a lasting tune as the one his sister had written.

Plummet hesitated a moment before curling up next to Sesania's feet. He knew not to interrupt her while she was playing.

Talea took a seat next to Bambina, leaving some room for Bezervn. "Hi, I'm Talea," she greeted. "What's your-" Before she could finish her question, Delom jumped into the seat between Talea and Bambina and smiled at the two girls like he had done nothing wrong.

"I am Delom the Great, at your service, fair maidens!" he said, kissing each girl's hand in turn. "I believe we have a little entertainment tonight, so let's enjoy it, shall we?" He leaned back in his seat and began to watch the twins and Heedana.

Talea didn't know what to make of Delom. Slightly rude, yes. Charming, she had to admit that, but a little impulsive probably. She immediately assumed he was a city boy.

Bambina had been listening to was startled by Delom. When she recovered, Bambina gave Delom a sly wink and a grin. Her eyes wandered to Heedana and the twins before trailing back to Telea, Bezervn, and Delom. She was uncertain for a moment, before her usual confidence returned and she decided to speak up. "Well, Talea, Delom the Great, my name is Bambina."

Heedana hummed gently and then played her part which grew higher when it came time for Sesron to sing. She looked at him awaiting his time to sing...waiting for that melodious voice would emit from him. She hadn't heard it in nearly two years. They were at least a year or two older than she was which was actually quite entertaining.

Bezervn jumped back and glared at Delom, her freckled cheeks flushed and she said sharply "Well you pompous wherrie, I am Bezervn of Igen." She sat down by Talea with a huff "What is up with that guy?" She whispered in an undertone. Ridley swooped down and sat on Bezervn's head and looked at Delom. Feeling slightly bad at getting mad at Delom, Bezervn said slowly "

So Delom, what color of dragon you hoping for? My self I hope for, of course, a Gold, or a Champagne" Ridley flapped his wings and chirped.

"I think he's a city boy, a real egotistical specimen," Talea replied softly. She stared at the performance of the Harpers, not giving Delom the satisfaction of a sideways glance. She knew she could do better, but she knew she could do worse, too.

"Well, my fair lady, I don't quite know which one I want. It's the dragon who chooses, not me, so why should I hope for one when the dragons should be the ones hoping for good riders," Delom said. In fact, he had never actually given much thought to the subject. A dragon was a dragon. It didn't matter which color for they all seemed equal in his eyes and he thought all the riders should be treated equally, not be treated based on the dragon they Impressed.

((I just discovered that Delom is socialist! This is going to be waaay to much fun!))

(( for those who wish to hear the melody of the song Autumn's Dance go there. ))

The first verse was Heedana's, and once she was done Sesron lowered his flute and sang out. His voice was rich and deep, strengthened by the emotions from his memories. He heard Sesania's harp play between verses and Heedana's guitar joined in with their voices.

"Gather round, come to me

Harper, sing the melody

The hearth fire flares

The time is nigh

Dragons soar in the sky

On this night, please do come

Dance with me to the drum

We shall dine on wherry and wine

In the golden light -

Of this autumn night

Gather round, join with me

In our merry festivity

The sisters watch -

Over us this night

While we dance in the fires light

Now my friends, the time is here

To say goodnight, farewell my dear

Our fire does dim

The golden light is gone

So we sing, farewell, so long "

Back and forth he and Heedana went, one verse after the other. Finally, they came to the final part of the song. Together, just as Sesania had written it so many years ago, the two voices of Sesron and Heedana joined. The last two notes left a sense of longing, making Sesania smile.

She played the last D minor chord and let the sound die away. She kept her eyes on her harp, not paying attention to anyone else.

Sesron sighed softly and then smiled warmly at Heedana. No words were needed as he looked at her. The song was only a couple minutes long, but like all of Sesania's songs, it left Sesron feeling a strange sense of calm.

((sorry about the minor controlling of Heedana. It just didn't feel right to have the song broken up over several posts. Song written by me FYI ))

((Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Poor Manora... is Mirrim still there? And I'm gonna make a guy character. I'll post with him soon. Is it still the same day? AKA is it the day after tomorrow when the Hatching will be?))

Rebekah slowly opened her eyes. Spots danced in her vision, but she saw at least one person. She was confused about what the woman had said. Was she talking to her about whoever this Path was? Better to only answer what she knew for sure. But what was there to tell about herself? Though the room wasn't moving any longer and she could focus again, it still took effort to remain completely calm. "Well... I am from Benden Hold. My parents died... when I was young. I never knew them. I do not know if I ever had a brother or a sister." She coughed quietly. "Before I left, Mistress -the lady who took me in when Mother and Father died- gave me Blira's egg. I came here after Rider Zee Searched my Hold and found me. That's all there is to tell, I suppose."

((Ahh. Sorry. xd.png I fail.)) ((yay new character! Pronounced REH-bah [bah as in Bah Humbug!] ^^ Love did approve him and said she would add him later. Thank you Love!))

Rebah looked around and leaned against the wall in a calm corner. He was in the room where everyone was eating. He heard a song, and saw two people singing. He closed his eyes and listened. When it was over, he stayed there. Why should he leave? Might as well stay here for now. It was as good a place as any. His thoughts wandered to the Hatching. Would he Impress a dragonet? Would he have to go back to Benden Hold? Then he started to daydream. He realized this wasn't daydreaming; it was a long-buried memory. He slipped into it.

Rebah walked to a house, a small bundle in his arms. His chubby, toddler legs carried him to the doorstep. He laid the little baby on the doorstep and pounded on the door, then ran to a different side of the house. The door opened and he looked into a window. Shortly the woman came into his view and laid the baby on a bed. He could hear just enough, even through the window. "Poor thing." the woman said. "I'll raise her to work, of course. Best way to raise a child, working. Let's see, I ought to call her something." Rebah summoned his courage. "Rebekah is her name." he called through the window in his little voice, as clearly as he could manage. Than he ran away... away from the only family he had left, away from his sister.

Rebah jerked to full awareness. He remembered that day well, now that he had relived it in his mind. After Mother and Father died, he had been forced to leave his sister with that woman. He hadn't seen her since. He desperately hoped she was all right after all these Turns. Shrugging to himself, he figured that she was fine. He ought to at least figure out where his room was. If they didn't have a room for him, he was perfectly fine with a small closet. That was, after all, where he had spent a few chilly nights in the past few Turns, when his adopted family had had guests and used his room. He guessed that after the meal, if someone saw him still standing there, they would ask questions, thus giving him a chance to ask about his room. Looking around, he ignored a rumble of his stomach. That food looked good. Oh well, he could eat tomorrow.

G'lor looked back at the weyrlings and smiled. He looked between the two lovebirds and grinned. he couldn't believe that K'leb hadn't already taken her as a mate...instead he was looking at Soria like she was Madonna. He laughed at himself and applauded the Harpers and Heedana.

E'ran had smiled the entire time of the song. He couldn't stop it. Once the song was over, he applauded momentarily and then walked out of the room to try and get a hold of himself. Gleanixth was there in moments and blwoing sand everywhere as he landed then sniffed his rider from his head to his feet. What's a matter? he heard his dragons urgency but just hugged the fatherly dragon and stood there with his life friend.

Manora smiled at the girl. "can you focus on my face?" she asked and took the girl's pulse. "Do you want to eat?" she asked pulling over a bowl of soup. "It sounds like you have had a rough time...I will tell you that weyr life isn't that easy...but you don't have to work for everything."

Heedana held the last note her emotions worked into a bundle. She placed her guitar on her lap and stood up with her friends to bow in front of the crowd. She bowed and then clapped towards her friends with a smile at them. Soon people were settled down and she handed the drudges her dishes after putting up her guitar. She then smiled at the two Harpers as F'nor, F'lar and lessa gathered around the two to greet them. Heedana was able to slip out of the kitchen before she teared up without warning, Jays...why is this happening? she thought to herself as Tilleth turned her faceted eyes towards her rider. You like him...yes? she thought to her rider. Yeeessss.... Heedana drew out the word slowly.

((no worries Ethril smile.gif that tune is gorgeous!))

Sesania smiled sweetly to those that clapped. The clapping was nothing new, it was an older song which they had performed many times in the past. It wasn't like she was unsure of what the reaction would be. What did surprise her was the smile she saw. She didn't know why his smile had caught her attention, nor why it surprised her. Maybe it was because...she felt like he was the kind of person that didn't smile often. Had her song really made him smile?

Sesania's thoughts went round and round as the F'lar, F'nor, and Lessa came up to them. She distantly realized she was talking to them, paying just enough attention to be able to answer them clearly, but her thoughts were on E'ran. Why though? Why was she thinking about him. There were other people, many other people, who had listened to that particular song in the past.

Sesania sighed softly and pushed all thoughts of the Blood rider to the back of her mind. Now was not the time to lose herself in thought over someone she had just met.

Sesron was excited to say the least when the great F'lar, F'nor, and Lessa came up to talk to them. Several of the questions were about his experience's in the past, his training with Masterharper Robinton, and just general things. As the conversation progressed he took note of two things. One his sister seemed very distant, and two Heedana had vanished.

"If you will excuse me, I must find my missing companion," He gave the leaders a respectful bow and darted towards the spot he thought Heedana had gone off to. Plummet, trying to be helpful, landed on his head and nipped at his ear until he went the right way.

Sesania looked after her brother and then sighed. "I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I'd written it years ago, especially for Sesron and Heedana."

"It was very beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us," Lessa replied.

Sesania had to hide a sudden yawn. Her eyes teared up as she fought to keep her eyes open.

Lessa laughed softly. "Looks like you're dead on your feet. Have you had no rest since you arrived?"

"To tell the truth Weyrwoman Lessa, Sesron and I have been traveling non-stop all day. He was too excited to go slowly." Sesania smiled patiently. As it was, it had taken all of her patience to keep Sesron from mounting his runner and going full out to the weyr.

"Well then I'll have someone show you to your new rooms," Lessa told her.

"You don't have to do that. Just tell me which way to go and I'll find it," Sesania smiled. She had always been able to find her way in strange places. Robinton had told her it was because she used logic and paid attention to her surroundings. Sesron on the other hand, would need help.

Lessa gave her directions. Quickly, as to avoid any more questions or comments, she gathered her bag and left. She turned the way Lessa had directed her. Sesania was trying to tie her harp to her bag again when she came in in contact with a hard surface in front of her. Sesania quickly took a step back and for the first time, her entire face lit up as red as wine. She had run into E'ran, who was standing next to his blood dragon Gleanixth.

"Sorry!" Sesania cried out as she tried to compose herself. She struggled for a moment to get her heart to slow down and to try and will her cheeks to stop being so hot.

While Sesania was panicking over running into E'ran, Sesron was being directed by Plummet to his missing friend.

Once he found her, he was surprised to see her eyes watering. He looked at her worriedly before quickly approaching. Doing the only thing he knew to cheer sad women up, he wrapped his arms around Heedana and gave her a big hug. "Found you!"

Soria had litened to Heedana and the Harpers in awe. She had missed seeing the others depart from around her and sighed heavily when she'd noticed. Standing, Soria walked over to K'leb and placed a kiss on his cheek before heading to her room to pack. She walked at a rather sedate pace, letting her mind wander. In her wanderings Soria closed her mind to the dragons in the Weyr. It was a thing she had not done in a long time, but Soria wished for the quietness of simply her own mind.

--

Bambina shrugged when she noticed none of the three sitting near her paid her any nevermind. She turned back to her plate and listened to the song until the end. Once the song ended, Bambina made a loud gesture of applause for the trio. When she'd deemed an appropiate amount of aplauding had been given, Bambina returned to finishing of her plate.
