OOC @ Alexander Drake: Yes, you do have primitive eyes.

@Ravencrime: Ah, I was thinking you were describing leaving the vial through the hole, and absorbing some of the leaves your vial is stuck in.

@Draco8967: It's fine for now, but remember in the future that you aren't allowed to actually say what it is you're interacting with (like "bag").

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Jerarde: The scratchy organic was hard to understand, but it was, in fact, organic. The slime knew what to do in order to learn more about it! The old, wet organic was... filling. That's all it was. It was awful and tasted like whatever that used to be useful in it was long gone, but at least the slime wasn't hungry anymore, at least for now. It turned out that the disgusting organic was surprisingly easy to absorb in the state it was in. But removing the blockage in front of it, the slime was able to taste something else. Wet. New wet. It didn't taste anything special, it just wasn't yucky. An inorganic thing came down the wet, and bumped into the slime. Something on it was just as inorganic, but had a strange flavor to it.

@Crell: The slime didn't make it far, but it didn't have to. It found something very, very hard... but it also recognized the flavor and feeling. It was some variance of inorganic organic! There wasn't just one of them, either. There were many of them, all acting like a dangerously uncomfortable and stabby inorganic. The inorganic was... there must be one? The inorganic organic wall was being pummeled by the slime's movement. Or the movement of the wet, making the slime do this.

@Zeditha: The slime went around an annoyingly bushy organic, and saw... it didn't know what it saw. But it was pretty! It was where the puffy was coming from. Both kinds. Wispy and puffy. How funny! The slime saw movement. The bright colored things were moving a lot. Why? Could the slime do that? Did moving mean it was organic?

@Viathen: (unlocked: ladybug) The wet inorganic was below the slime, now being rested on. It.. wasn't as soft and comfortable as the slime felt it as being. Not that it paid much attention to it. It was actually rather uncomfortable now... and warm. No, hot. Not hot enough to burn the slime, but... yes it was. The inorganic thing, no matter how contoured to the slime it was, no matter how smooth it was, was now very uncomfortable. No wonder the organic things were mostly under other things!

@Atrocitas: (unlocked: black widow spider) The sphere wasn't entirely spherical, after all. It had little thingies sticking out of it. Very small thingies, easily overlooked. As the sphere entered the slime's form, it felt something tiny and sharp, just for a slight instant. The sphere was dissolving, and then the slime noticed something else. The place that felt the pain had started to spread. The pain was spreading... it hurt! It was encompassing the slime's entire form, but doing it slowly. Not as slowly as to be torture, but slow enough not to surprise the slime at its speed. The pain was making the slime feel strange...

Jerarde was not interested in non-organic stuff, so it moved off the pile of bad-organic in search of something less repulsive. As it inched along, it looked at itself and noticed it had become the same color as the stretchy squishy food. The slime liked this, and made no attempt to change it. As Jerarde continued to inch along, it craved some sort of tasty organic, and went in search of some organic like that.

The wet slamming him into this inorganic yet organic thing at the same time Crell can feel himself getting almost angry at it. his tentacles trying to grab on as the mouths all over his body gnashing and trying to bite at the wet. as he grabs onto the inorganic/organic and tries finding out what it is he shakes his body and presses himself as tight to it as he can get.

@Avisk: (unlocked: fire breath: pink, green) The flames that came out of the slime were the pretty colors it had just learned it could make, but the ones burning on their own, all over things- that was a different... not one color, but a set of colors. Those the slime couldn't make. Something else... a lot of the stuff that was burning had puffy coming off of it. White, mostly... but a few places had thick, scary-looking black, wispy puffy. Some of it was pretty close to the slime, and it was a clear-skinned... thing. With things in it.

The slime's flames dwindled slightly as it spotted the clear skinned thing. The other flames puffed, vibrating the plated exo-scale on the slime as it vibrated the slime with the sound from being so near. Smaller versions of that flame rose upward with the puff, distracting the slime for a moment.

The slime started forward, the six scaled legs moving carefully along the burning pile-sections toward the clear skinned thing. That object wasn't very far, but the slime still was cautious. How was it going to get into this? Maybe find an opening? Poking the clear skinned thing, Avisk realized it was solid but fluid. Flexible. Like itself still. Its hope for possibly discovering an opening didn't reveal anything with the poke. The slime looked at it some more. It was full, yet poking didn't do much.

Another puff and vibration of the sound startled the slime for a moment. It knew it could not downright absorb this. Not quickly enough to definitely not put it in more danger. The flames broke off a small unidentifiable part of the pile it was on, higher up, rolling that down past the clear skinned and past the slime. Time was in need for absorbing the entirety here. Avisk glanced downward more at the pile. Maybe it could push this down there and absorb it down there? That would possibly be better. But the other slime was down there, and Avisk wasn't sure about that slime completely. It turned back to the object, pushing one toe onto the skin. It was smooth and clear. The slime tested, curious as it had noticed the spikes had done this to the smoother parts of the other slime. It dragged the toe on the skin, the sharper part at the end scarping onto the skin. Nothing broke open which saddened the slime for a moment.

The fires on its back puffed out in a small burst, nearly setting fire behind it on a part of the pile. Avisk tried to calm that, succeeding for a moment before getting curious about the clear skinned again. The spikes spurted fire, so they were out of an option until it learned to control the fire. But the pincher at its back? That would rip the clear skinned!! The slime turned around, bending one of the further back legs to hold onto the skin as the tip of the pincher broke into the top left of the skin for a second. A small hole opened up as the slime attempted to hold the bag and move its backend, but it couldn't in that position. The slime's pincher hooked onto the small hole and lifted it up toward the front of the slime as its back leg let go. Due to the flexibility of the backend, and the pincher-bug placement of the legs, the pinchers were able get the bag about halfway to the slime's front, where it tipped forward slightly and dropped the bag. Both front lets grabbed at the hole, tearing it open. A few of the contents inside fell out slightly from the good sized hole that was ripped into the skin, but Avisk was already starting to grab one of the others and put in into its mouth.

Another puff of fire nearby created another sound vibration, augmented by the flexible exo-scale that was on its underside.

((Exo-scale: a term i made up... or think I made up... to deal with the pincher-bug exoskeleton pieces on the scaled underside of the chameleon scaled- slime.

Also, the six legs Avisk has are in the typical pincher bug placement, while the legs are actual packrat legs covered in chameleon scales with chameleon toes.))

Zeditha decided that since she didn't know what the bright flickering thing was, she should go closer to it, so she walked slowly towards it. If it was organic, she would definitely eat it, because she was hungry.

OOC @ Dragonhatchling: I've seen your art- why not draw Avisk?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Avisk: The organic thing was dry, and tasted strange, making it almost feel like it was spinning, but it knew it wasn't. But it didn't feel like it was spinning, either. It felt like it had just been spinning and now wasn't. The organic was- the slime twitched- dry. Very dry. But not hard. Not really. The organic was inside the slime. The other organics it found within the clear skin started turning the same colors the slime could become. Something inside the slime, inorganic... the inorganic bubble thing... wasn't in a flexible line anymore. Is that what it was? It was clumped. The slime didn't do that, did it? Also it wasn't flexible anymore. One of the flames near the slime looked like it had a face and opened its mouth and showed off its fangs! The slime felt hot.

@Crell: The inorganic organic was very uncomfortable to smash itself against. The little toothed-gaps the slime had formed weren't doing much, either. Not to the inorganic organic. The slime's body started to fight back- and it wasn't able to retain its stretched out points, making it lose its makeshift tentacles. They weren't real ones anyway. The slime was able to scrape some of the inorganic organics enough to get small shavings off of each one it was attacking, but it wasn't gaining much; though it was gaining something.

@Jerarde: The slime had to go a long way to find something less bad-tasting. Most things tasted rather foul. That is, until it came across something else. It was mostly a bland flavor, with tiny bits feeling either dry or moist, but all of it was thin and tiny. But it was in a mound like the bad-tasting organic was shaped. There didn't seem to be anything special in it, at least as far as the slime could currently feel at its surface.

@Zeditha: The bright, flickering colors kept flailing around, not affected by the slime's presence. As the slime approached, the flicker kept producing puffy, and when the air moved, the puffy's direction did, too. Now it was coming right at the slime, and it was hard to see. A few moments went by, and it puffed in another direction, and the slime could see forward again. The puffy hurt the slime's eyes when it was directly in them. The flicker was mostly at the top of a large rounded... hill? No, but something like one, made of strange things. There was another shape at the bottom of the hill, and it was moving, but the slime found the moving flickering up at the top far more interesting. As it approached, it seemed to get warmer.

Jerarde was curious enough to try and digest some of the organic, as much as he could fit inside himself without bursting. Having done so, Jerarde did not wish to move in case he popped himself.

Atrocitas had never felt this sensation before, not that it actually had experiences to begin with. Ever. Except the tree perhaps, and now this sensation that it did not like. Atrocitas could understand that pain was bad in that it was not natural and was causing problems to itself. Atrocitas needed to do something to combat this pain, but it could not determine what to do about it. Atrocitas continued to absorb the thing until it was entirely consumed, and then it focused on combating this pain the best way it knew how, even if it had to change itself physically or chemically to do so.

The toothed holes bulge out as the tentacles come back into his body, Crell letting the toothed things push out like they had been with the original DNA with some sharp teeth forming around the outside. Grabbing at this annoying uncomfortable thing he is slammed back and forth he starts getting more angry. His outside slime against the wet giving off a sweet scent that mingles with another scent that is just as sweet. The scents moving around and away from him he bites at everything that comes close.

Zeditha decided to ignore the bright thing for now - it could wait for a few minutes - and focused on the shape at the bottom. It looked more organic than the one on the top, somehow, so she crouched, then ran towards it, enjoying how fast her new legs could go. She tired quickly, being so hungry, but running felt good anyway.

((Sooo... Zeditha is the size of a labrador, with rabbit ears, peregrine eyes and wings, packrat legs, all covered in feathers with a calico of every colour she has. :3 Did I miss anything?))

((If I find time, i'll give it a shot.

And is the clumped thing inside Avisk the chain, or something else?))

Avisk flinched back as the flame barred its fangs. That hadn't happened before. Had the slime angered these fires? The hot air around the slime was heating up more, only made worse by the new discovery of the flames being able to attack and have flames. Another showed a similar face, hissing now as it scurried along part of the pile. They were alive?? The slime had no idea. This hadn't happened before. What was going on?

Six legs carried the Avisk backwards a little more as another flame-monster darted past. The dry things inside the slime continued their color changing, however slightly more rapidly as the slime also noticed a few other random objects starting to hold the same properties. The glowing started on the slime again, at first scaring it before it remembered that it could do that before. That didn't exactly help matters, as the scales also changed color in similar fashion to what the slime saw the dry things doing and the slime could not decide if that was itself, or if it was something to do with whatever else was going on.

To the onlooker, the slime was pulsating a rapid glow of distress as the colors changed wildly from the chaos the slime itself was experiencing. The fires around it were getting worse, however Avisk wasn't realizing that enough to truly get out of danger.

Avisk slammed itself on the dry things in the clear skinned and ate another, hoping that would make the flames stop attacking that it just dodged. But another flame reared up, getting ready to strike before just disappearing. Two more appeared behind it however. Were they multiplying!?

OOC: I'm back.

Also, Zeditha, I believe you had peregrine falcon scales on your body instead of feathers (wings still have feathers, though). And how many packrat legs do you have?

Encouraged to find something that tasted good, Aster eagerly devoured all of the small hard sweet things as quickly as possible, and then turned its attention to the larger organic . . . animal? that they had been stuck to. Aster very much wanted to absorb this creature, especially after it had gone to so much trouble to drag it out of the middle of the pile, but something inside of it stopped it from absorbing something that might be another slime. Aster didn't understand why it felt this way, and it was fighting against it, but the slime couldn't overcome its strange reluctance completely.

Aster brushed up against the eyeless organism again, not to absorb but instead to investigate. The organic creature made no response whatsoever, and it felt cool to the touch. Aster had absorbed a bit of it earlier before it had realized that it needed to take longer to digest things now, and the organism had tasted . . . was dead a flavor? It tasted very similar to the goop-covered creature Aster had eaten not so long ago that had turned to be dead, anyway. Not exactly the same, but close. But then, if it was a slime, which even Aster knew were very different from all other organics, could it taste dead without being dead? Well, in any case, it hadn't moved at all or made any sort of response, even when Aster had absorbed a little of it before. Aster finally decided that, dead or alive, the perhaps-slime must not mind Aster absorbing some of it, and that was what finally allowed the slime to begin consuming the creature again.

Aster spent a fair amount of time eating the organic creature, purposely taking its time absorbing it into itself in order to prevent the undigested parts of it from distending its body like what had happened before. Each time the slime had finished absorbing the parts of the creature that were outside of the pile, Aster would drag a little more of what remained forwards with its neck. At no point did the organism make any sort of reaction whatsoever - or at least not until it suddenly slid forward along with the rest of the parts of the pile that was facing Aster. The slime had to step backward rapidly to avoid being buried in the wave of objects until they finally stopped moving. Wondering what had caused the pile to move so dramatically, Aster stretched its neck straight up and tried to make out the top of the pile through the darkness, only to realize that at some point the upper half of the pile had become bathed in light, bright orange light that flickered and jumped everywhere. Was this the other slime again? No, the light the other slime had made, and that Aster was still making, was softer and less defined. This was something else. And . . . was it getting warmer? The slime hadn't noticed before since it was so focused on its meal, but the ambient temperature around it had definitely risen. A small, brightly glowing point of light suddenly flew away from the pile and, traveling in a downwards arc, landed on Aster's back. That was hot! Well, that explained why it was getting warmer.

Ignoring the different taste Sammy stretched its body out enveloping all the small holes and began ingesting all the smaller organics.

Sammy let out an appreciative gurgle but then paused in its absorption in shock as a light suddenly entered it's brain. It could sense two small orbs on its top and for some reason it had gained a new sense.

OOC Getting ready to write updates. Who else wants to join us in Azure Wyrm voice chat? We're hangin' out right now. RaidCall, group name Azure Wyrm. PM me for the password to get into the player-only section.

OOC @ Zeditha: For game purposes, slime skin types don't have any different elemental resistances than they do as slimes. So that means a wooden slime isn't weaker to fire than they are anyway. Non-elemental defenses do make a difference, though. Seashell-like scales are better than normal slime, but fire / electric / etc resist is unrelated. Also you can merge materials. So you can have cardboard plate, and infuse it with seashell, so it looks like cardboard but has seashell's defense quality.

And yeah, I thought you used the scales on a bird's foot to cover yourself with those. Different posts say different things. What's the final verdict?

@Dragonhatchling: Yep. I clumped it so I could get it into a semi-spherical shape before doing something with it. Probably obvious, but yeah. Sorry I couldn't find a good image to use on my upload.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Jerarde: The slime became immobile. Unable to do anything but wait and digest. It was happening much slower than it was used to... was it the sheer amount of organic it had consumed that caused its metabolism to decrease? There were hints of... something within the organic, but whatever it was wasn't captured with the rest of it.

The traces, from where they were located, made a strange line. It was thin, and organic, but hard and dry and brittle. It trailed off and over the mound of organic. But the slime couldn't move yet so it didn't matter what was where.

@Avisk: Some of the flames changed colors. One of them grew horns, and started scratching another flame, which made both of them get bigger. Then some flames jumped out of the scratch marks, and jumped on the slime. It couldn't ignore the burning now, able to feel its entire body burning. Some due to flames that the slime wasn't making, and some because it was spreading everywhere, and the slime was standing on burning things. Burning things that were making faces at the slime, and changing colors. They were turning colors that made the slime feel... antagonized. There was that creature before... the other slime. It was at the base of the mound, and it... changed to... it was inorganic now. Also it had all flat sides. There was another creature, too, to the left and behind that one. That looked even more strange. There was a third. It was behind a leafy organic that looked very bright for some reason. There weren't flames on it; it was just bright. That third creature looked even angrier than the fanged flames did. Then the slime was underground, and things like the bright thing from up that made the wet fall were under it. The flames were wet now. How did they do that? The flames became wet that came from up, but instead went up from down?

@Aster: (unlocked: amber pigment, hard sugar, lace monitor) The slime could see the other slime, behind the flickering lights. It seemed to just be sitting there, not moving. Things that burned the slime were on the other one, too, but it just sat there. What was it doing? It looked like it was... the slime couldn't see that well. First it was too dark, but now it was too bright to look directly at the growing, spreading flickers. The slime sensed something moving nearby...

Until it felt something bigger than itself ram right into it from behind, then go over it and land on the ground. The other creature, whatever this clumsy thing was, had just pinned it under its back limbs, as it lay there. What the heck was it doing? It was kind of like... like when the slime rammed the other slime. Was... was THIS strange thing ANOTHER slime!? Maybe this is just how slimes meet.

@Zeditha: The shape was... moving. Consuming something. The slime wasn't able to see it very well, but... no, yes it could. It could see it okay. Not great, but it could make it out decently. It was... absorbing through its skin. The slime did that. It saw its gnawed off foot run away. That went the other direction, though. This... this... well, the slime already knew that there was at least two of itself, so it made sense that there could be more. The slime had absorbed a lot of complex things, and absorbed some of their memories, too. There had to be more slimes. Could this be one of them? What was it doing? It had absorbed a... thing. The slime couldn't really tell what it was, as the other creature, if it was a slime, was facing away from it, and whatever it was consuming was on the opposite side. Good thing the creature had clear parts just like the slime did before it changed, or it wouldn't have ever known. The bright, flickering things started to spread down the mound of things, and a large amount of it slid down, but the other creature wasn't affected. Running at the organic creature was easy because it wasn't going anywhere. The slime, tired as it was, tripped over the creature and landed on the mound of stuff in front of it, the other creature trapped under the slime's back where its rear legs were attached.

@Sammy: (unlocked: termite) The slime finished absorbing the old tasting dense organic that broke apart.. and found something else. There was an inorganic thing inside it. It was long, and bent in the middle, flat on one end, and pointy on the other. What kind of thing could this be? But it was inorganic. Inorganic, but... something. Something about it. It didn't matter. There was that strangely wet, hot, scratchy inorganic thing below it that tasted... it tasted. Inorganic things weren't supposed to taste. The slime was on it for long enough that it could taste what it was that made the inorganic wet. It... had a taste the slime didn't understand. But it was similar to something else earlier... no, no it wasn't.

@Atrocitas: (unlocked: black widow hourglass) The slime twitched. Fluctuated. Jiggled. It moved, but not due to its own accord. It didn't move much, or from the place it rested, but something... something touched the slime. It couldn't tell if it was organic or not- that was new. But it still felt the pain. It had spread to every part of the slime's form! There were other organics nearby that the slime could just barely taste, rubbing against its lower part against the ground.

@Crell: Whatever it was the slime did (if it was the slime) worked... to a point. Wild thrashing seemed to help the slime from time to time, and furious attacks yielded organic reward. Some of the inorganic organic... uncomfort came off of the inorganic, which the slime could now tell was in fact below the edible stuff- and the slime was able to grab a few pieces of it. They were very, very hard- and dense. Not something the slime could get through with its teeth. But it could at least shove it within itself through its slimey flesh.

(( OOC: Is the hourglass marking the only thing I have unlocked from the black widow? Or have I unlocked the black widow's useful genes as well as the marking? Or is this marking a result of taking on the possible ability of having black widow poison?))

Atrocitas felt nothing but pain coursing through its being. Perhaps not the way in which sentient creatures experience pain, for Atrocitas was still a very undeveloped slime, but it could 'feel' this pain in its own way. The spams that wracked its form added confusion to its growing list of sensations. Something was not functioning. Something was controlling it involuntarily. Atrocitas's form wiggled up against the other things that surrounded it, organics and otherwise. Perhaps it could fight the pain. Somehow. So Atrocitas put aside concentration on the pain and returned dutifully to its need to consume. Consume to fight the pain... consume because Atrocitas needed to... that was all Atrocitas knew, and in the face of crisis, one merely responds as one is trained.

((*the post has confused DH* *DH works with it anyways* I do believe that was the purpose... the poor slime... they're worse off than Sevak ever was by this point.))

Avisk didn't know what to do. Everything was happening so quickly and so oddly it was completely disoriented and lost. It knew the other two slimes were here somewhere- wherever here was- and that the flames were very very angry. And scary. The flames scared the poor slime now with their odd faces and fangs.

The bright plant-like thing held some of the attention however, distracting the scary from the fire-monsters. The inorganic slime confused Avisk more, as it was sure the other creature had to be alive. Right? But the plant-like once again distracted it. Was that going to attack it too? It was very very bright, which unknowingly caused the slime itself to glow at a steady intensity in its current chaotic state. The slime didn't notice.

But the angered third slime intimidated Avisk. Its thorns reared up, creating the spiked defenses it had known before and then were set aflame, but not by the slime's choice. It's controls were messed up considerably. What was just supposed to be putting the spikes down set them individually on fire with small flames burning steadily in different colors at the tips. Shortly those flames all changed to a uniform color, and the glowing slime stopped glowing suddenly. But the colors it had been seeing appeared again, poking the slime's curious interest. The bright plant housing the angered slime nearly prevented it from moving, but, the all flat-sided slime seemed less intimidating. Could that one help maybe?

Avisk moved carefully, trying not to start the weird fire-monsters again and wondering why the up-wets were now down-wets once it realized those were still there. That wasn't supposed to happen. Right? Or could it happen? The slime had no idea. But what the slime did know, was that there had been three slimes including itself, and one of them- or both- possibly could help whatever was going on with itself. Or so it hoped. Avisk hoped it wasn't stuck like this forever.

Zeditha tried to move, and found it difficult from the unintendeed position she was in, so she decided to look around instead. The most obvious thing around was the slime she was atop, and she thought that it might not like being sat on. She tried to think how to make the other slime not want to hurt her, because she was too hungry to fight and too hungry to run away. She also wondered how to ask if there was any food, but spied something organic-looking on the pile and began scrambling in an attempt to reach it.

Aster wasn't aware of much as the other creature knocked into it and landed on it completely unexpectedly, but once it managed to recover its wits it was considerably less than pleased with its current situation. The slime was wedged quite tightly under the body of the larger . . . other slime, maybe? and there was no space at all for Aster to move. Even worse than that, the other perhaps-slime was quite heavy, and its weight pressed against its own body was making Aster extremely uncomfortable. Aster tried to push the other creature off of itself, but it wasn't strong enough to lift its greater weight and mass. Fortunately, before Aster had a chance to really panic, the other creature moved off of Aster of its own volition, and moved towards the pile, heading straight towards something that appeared to be organic. Aster didn't try to stop it. For one thing, it wasn't sure that it could, and for another, it wasn't sure it really wanted the pile anymore in its current condition. The orange light was spreading further down to the bottom of it, and now it was even hotter than it had been before - hot enough to make Aster a little uncomfortable. Nevertheless, Aster was loathe to abandon such a large food source completely, even though it wasn't really that hungry anymore.

Hearing something rustle further up the pile, Aster looked up and saw the slime from before slowly moving around. Something seemed off about it now, though. It was standing right in the middle of a patch of bright orange light, which Aster knew from experience was quite painful, but it didn't really seem to be trying to get off of it. Then Aster saw more of the orange light on the pile shoot out of the hurty bits that it had landed on before! That hadn't happened before! Was that new? Maybe that was why the other slime wasn't bothered by the orange light. Maybe if a slime could make a certain thing, it couldn't be hurt by more of it.

For some reason, Aster wasn't nearly as bothered by the other slime as it had been before. Something about the way it was pressed so close to the ground, and the way it moved slowly, like it was scared, made it seem less . . . intimidating, even with the hurty orange light erupting from its spiky bits. Aster moved a fair distance away from the larger creature it wasn't sure was a slime yet, so as not to risk provoking it, and started heading towards the pile again, figuring it might as well see if there was anything else good to eat there. As it did so, it fought against a wave of ever-growing heat, but even so, Aster didn't quite realize the danger that it was in, even though something deep inside it made it feel a little uneasy as it grew closer to the still-dark bottom of the pile.

OOC @ Ravencrime: I had to look at your sheet to answer. You have black widow unlocked, but not the poison yet. I started to say you were unlocking the pattern, but saw it already was unlocked according to your sheet, but left there anyway.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

@Jerarde: The slime was able to move finally, but not very well. It was able to... even more slowly than usual, ooze itself along the ground or whatever else the slime happened to find to climb on top of, over, through, or under- depending on what it had encountered.

@Avisk: PAIN! The scary angry flames didn't look so scary anymore- they didn't even look like they had faces. Or fangs. Also, of what little was left of the things that the slime consumed before such images appeared to the slime... was just a normal color. If the slime accounted for the color of the nearby EXTREMELY PAINFUL FLAMES that were now burning it and causing it more pain than it was willing to tolerate. The glowing plant wasn't glowing anymore. The inorganic, flat-edged slime wasn't inorganic. It wasn't even flat. What was going on with the slime? What did it see? Why? The flames had continued spreading, and most of the pile now had at least a little flame on it. Was everything the slime saw going to disappear? The three other slimes didn't. Not even the angry one.

@Zeditha: The mound with the flickering things on it was hot. It wasn't touching the flickers, but the slime could feel them from where it was. They were so hot that they could make the slime uncomfortable even without touching it? That was new. What else was new was the organic- it was furry, which the slime was used to- but something else. It had something wet on it, but the slime didn't know what it was. It wasn't organic. It was old, and hard, and unlike other organic things the slime ate, this one seemed frozen in position with dryness.

@Aster: Something inside the orange glowing pile popped, spurting orange light-colored things even further from the pile than it already was. Something was standing there. On the other side of the leafy organic. It... didn't look friendly, or curious, whatever it was. It just looked... the slime didn't have a word. One of its colored breaths looked in a way like the creature was probably feeling, the middle darkness color. But for some reason, the slime felt... the lightest color of its breath. This was not something to be angered, and it was already angry. And staring at... possibly two other slimes right now that weren't noticing it!

@Crell: (unlocked: barnacle) The moving wet pulled the slime away from the thing it kept smashing into, and the slime doing down helped to save it from further annoyance. It couldn't see as well under the wet as it did above it, but at least it wasn't being mooshed against things. The hard inorganic organic parts it had gained were dissolving, though slowly. But the slime had time. It went for quite awhile before encountering anything- there were things it saw that might be organic, but the wet was moving in a way that it couldn't do anything about it. Couldn't fight it. After enough time, it had dissolved the meal it had gone through so much to gain. From what little the slime could see, the ground went up at an angle, out of the wet- and it was long. The wet movement had kept it going along the entire... ground? But not far enough down or over to touch any of it.

@Atrocitas: (unlocked: black widow venom/antivenom gland) Absorbing more organics as it did, it noticed something. That wasn't the only organic that was able to make the slime feel that way. One or two more of them had done the same thing! But something else. The places that those organics were entering, and the place that the pain first started at- were.... overlapping? Relief, true relief was coming to the slime, slowly spreading from its initial point of pain outward. But the other points were starting to spread a slightly worse pain outward, too. Once the two feelings touched, something else happened. The slime felt something strange, something somewhat hard, almost... crunchy? But also... it was like it was soft and squishy on the outside but with a smaller crunchy part in the middle. This feeling, this... thing... whatever it was, made the slime feel better. All of its pain seemed to... vanish!

Following the ground down deeper and deeper into the wet Crell tries to roll down along with the moving wet trying to get deeper and under the movement. The bumps of his mouths making it hard he keeps forcing himself deeper trying to grab at anything around him. His mouths grabbing at the thing below and pulling it in to take in anything organic, anything not organic or edible pushed out of his skin and into the wet around to settle on him before being pushed off into the wet again.

As Aster took in the sight of the big creature in the shadows of the leafy organic on the far side of the pile, another spray of the points of orange light fell on its body, and maybe it the pain it felt, but Aster suddenly realized that it was in a great deal of danger. The creature was dangerous, the pile was dangerous now, and maybe even the other slimes were dangerous, although at least their attention didn't seem focused on Aster. Had the big creature seen Aster? There wasn't a lot of light near it, so Aster couldn't tell. Feeling the heat against its skin, still that of its original form, Aster suddenly realized it was very vulnerable. Deciding it didn't want the pile any more, Aster backed slowly into its own side of the leafy organic, where hopefully the big creature couldn't find it. As it did so, the slime felt an odd urge to . . . call out? warn? the other two slimes, who did not seem to have noticed the potential threat, at least as far as Aster could tell. But it couldn't. It wasn't physically able to do what its instincts were telling it to. So for the time being, Aster decided to concentrate on hiding and building its defenses in case the big creature found it, and laid down behind one of the tall organics to get started.

Aster felt the front end of its hard inside parts that gave its body shape, where its eyes rested, suddenly start to become much larger and thicker, and began to bulge out in the front. Part of the new bulge wasn't attached to the rest of it, but was connected by a hinge in back, near where its eyes were, but below it. Aster could control the lower part of the hinge, and opened and closed it experimentally. More sharp bits erupted out of the bottom part of the top hinge and the top part of the bottom, and Aster could tell that they could inflict pain each time it closed both parts of its new head-bulge. Its neck grew a bit thicker two, to support its heavier head, and it seemed to have gained some extra flesh on its bottom side for some reason. Suddenly the bottom hinges swung outward as Aster practiced opening its new mouth again, and the slime felt that extra flesh strain as it realized it was able to open its hinges extra wide to fit something big in there if it had to. As its head bulge neared completion, Aster felt its eyes creep towards the sides of its head, but concentrated to keep them where they were. That was one thing it was happy with, thank you very much.

At the same time, on the other side of Aster's body, the rest of the biomass it had gained from its two recent meals was moving behind its main body to create a long appendage with a tapered point at the end. It had more of the hard interlocking parts from its neck to support it, and Aster could move this new appendage in a similar way as its neck as well. Was it a back-neck? No? Whatever it was, it felt like something the slime was supposed to have.

After the slime had grown its new body parts, it felt its gelled skin harden. If Aster turned its neck to look back at itself, it could see that diamond-like patterns were establishing themselves all over its body, and the reddish shade its body had been for a while now was starting to take on a definite shine. Aster felt a hard layer form over the outside of its body, very thin but very dense, and made of the same super-hard material that its skeleton was made out of, except it was in small enough individual pieces that it couldn't impede the slime's movement. Hopefully it was hard enough that the big creature couldn't crush it now. Aster stood up and prepared to make its way back into the clearing with the pile. As it did, though, it saw bright yellow puffy coming out of its new mouth. As the slime had grown its new hard skin, the smoke haze it had been making could no longer seep through it, and was now coming out of the only place on the slime's body where there was still exposed slime - its mouth. Well, there was nothing the slime could do about that, but it didn't need to be reminded of the light color right as it was possibly going to confront the big creature, so it changed the color to red. That seemed to give Aster more motivation for some reason. There was nothing else the slime could do to control it, though - but just then, the slime felt empty space open up in its body as two tubes and three sacs suddenly formed. The slime wasn't sure to do with those, but then realized if it exerted pressure on one of them it could blow the red puffy out for a longer distance and with more force than it had been able to before. Maybe that would be useful? Hopefully Aster wouldn't find out soon, but either way, the slime had to cross the clearing to find out. Hopefully it would be able to keep to the edge and bypass the big creature, but Aster knew enough to know it couldn't count on that. Aster took a few hesitant steps back into the clearing, widely craning its neck around to try to spot any danger that might be inside of it.

OOC: I know growing all this will take a while, but with Zeditha likely going to eat enough to unlock the fox's DNA and Avisk likely suffering from a large amount of second to third degree burns, hopefully there would be enough time for Aster to do all this without stretching credibility on the time issue. If I need to edit the post or do anything else to correct the issue, that's fine.

Anyway, Aster grew:

- Lace monitor head minus tongue, retains cassowary eyes, brain and binocular vision

- Lace monitor tail

- Lace monitor scales made of copper-plated calcium (going to assume that's okay) added density of redwood bark (also going to assume it's red instead of green copper, if not I can change the description)

- Primitive stomach and cassowary lungs

- Not mentioned because she wouldn't have been able to actually use it until the very end of the post, but now has complete olfactory system, based off mix of cassowary (for structure) and potbelly pig

- Now has genuine smoke breath, currently colored red.

Atrocitas felt a wave of relief wash over itself as the feelings spread, met, then vanished. Now that the pain was gone, Atrocitas felt the desire to guard itself against such pain again. Thinking again of the pain, Atrocitas felt a part of itself warming, shifting. The slime in this part began to congeal and eventually harden somewhat. The slime worked at this area until what had formed was something like a tiny, pencil eraser sized sac with a point protruding from one end. And this point would be the prime deliverer of the pain like the sort Atrocitas felt. Now, at least from what it determined by its limited capacities, Atrocitas would avoid pain by causing it.

But this focus of energies drained Atrocitas of its energy and made it hungrier more than before. Desperate for sustenance, the slime began to make quick work of the closest organic it could find: some strange, multi-textured thing.

((OOC: If it's alright to evolve this early, Atrocitas now has a little black widow venom sac that tapers to a point, and stabbing things with it pushes out the venom. Let me know if I did something wrong...))
