That is the main reason why I stopped going to the debate threads with anything to do about gay rights or marriage. Some of the things on there make me cringe like people quoting the bible (or other religious texts). That was my main reason for creating this thread.

Only thick-skinned people could survive debate threads like that, really, so I'm with you here.

 

I currently am not sure of my sexual orientation (and couldn't care less). Happy single, 19 years old, Indonesian girl who some people consider to be a Free-thinker (I lean more on agnostic theism but that's another story). I'm pro-gay. Hugs and free cookies for everyone in this thread!

50% of sperms have X chromosomes...that's how men have daughters!  Could be they can't get the DNA out if a sperm yet, or could be they can replace an egg's DNA with a sperm's, but haven't confirmed they can by actually doing because of the ethics.

It's actually possible to switch the DNA-containing nuclei of an egg and a sperm cell - but the embryos all die very early. This is because of something called "genetic imprinting", which is still only halfway understood. The basic principle is that depending on the physical gender of a body, certain genes in all cells (including sperms/eggs) are are "marked" as "switched on" or "off" - and if en embryo gets two male or two female imprinted sets of chromosomes, some vital genes are completely inactive, so the embryo cannot live.

 

Does that make sense? (Molecular biologist here. Not that I work on anything even related, but that's basically what we learned in Genetics about this. )

I'm "straight" and married, and fully supportive of the multitude of love. Everyone should be able to love and marry whoever they give their heart to. Anything that happens between consenting people of a reasonable age is totally their business and nobody else should get a say!

There was a gay pride parade today (I didn't go as my country's conservative) and I was just looking at an internet news article and most of the comments were overwhelmingly negative. Seriously negative, like "OMG AIDS DIE" "disgusting" and stuff like that.

 

I dunno, I was able to giggle over them though, probably because I think of those people as lonely losers who haven't got girlfriends and they need to assert their masculinity over the net. Trying to make a frantic last-ditch effort. The thing is, they're mostly against men-to-men relationships, not women-to-women, which probably corroborates my pet theory. Oh and another thing, it's amazing how people think homosexuals are disgusting because of, you know, their sexual behavior, and all the while I was reading that and thinking...so you think of people having sex every time you look at them? Haha.

 

Another argument was that "I was harassed by a guy and I'm a guy and blah blah." My condolences, but that's like me arguing that I now hate all heterosexual men because I was harassed by them a few times.

 

I dunno, I'm just feeling half miserable and half amused at the same time. Miserable because people hate people like me (bi) and amused because most of those people are the above losers I described above. It's a very queer feeling. (see what I did there? lol)

I hate Japanese lolicon anime. And I hate companies that're looking for quick cash by making characters like this playable.

I wouldn't necessarily say "Man up" though, as I believe any harassment is harmful, but I would say that bad people are bad people and they exist in any group, and that's the fault of that person's personality and nothing else.

I have friends that other than their sexual preference, are the same as me. They are good friends, wonderful parents to their children, hold down wonderful jobs and very normal human beings.

 

You are judged by people who will quote from the bible, but they will make excuses for themselves as they do not follow the bible themselves 100%.

 

We all have to be happy within ourselves, as long as we do not hurt others. Feelings will be hurt if you are gay, but I do not mean feelings when I say as long as you do not hurt others, lol. I have grown children, and I have always told them if you are gay, let me know. I will love and stand behind you, as mom can not live your life for you. I do know that if my children were gay, they would bring home a partner of their standards as they were raised. They are not gay, but the only thing that would worry me if they were and had children, it is their children that get abused from others and they do not understand.

 

My friends have raised some wonderful children and their children are not gay. So many people think if gays raise children, their children will be gay, what folishness and ignornace on other peoples thinking.

 

To all of you that are gay, good luck to you and hopefully you are secure within yourself. I hope those of you that want children you get your wish as you will make wonderful parents. There are so many unwanted children out there that need adopting, but yet they will not allow gay couples to adopt, how sad.

I was reading a board about something gay-related before and this guy was seriously trying to argue how all homosexuals were automatically pedophiles as well. His argument was something along the lines that if you like little boys then you're a pedo. And all the other people arguing with him were like, "Well duh, but that doesn't mean all homosexuals are attracted to little boys. Most of them are attracted to people of their own age group. Besides, what about heterosexual pedophiles? You know those exist, right, and that they are the VAST majority?"

 

He wouldn't respond to that.

 

It just makes me twitch and want to slap something. e_o

I'm kinda wondering about this, too.

Another thing a lot of people protesting against gay rights say, is that it will lead to all same-sex couples fondling each other publicly, everywhere and omg, THINK OF THE CHILDREN who will have to watch that, and being around gays will make them gay.

 

Uh. No. Just... no.

Get laid or at least learn how to pleasure yourself well already, and stop spewing this nonsense (this is to everybody who assumes the things listed above). .___.

Adding on to that, it always baffled me as to why people tried to figure out who was the "man" or "woman" in a same sex couple. All I think is whatever they do in their bedroom is their own private business and none of anyone elses. Isn't that somewhat of a personal thing to ask? Besides, I'm pretty sure a male couple and a female couple are still males and females, there's no man or woman in the relationship. I guess that might more tie into sexism than anything else.

You're right, it is a very personal question that's founded in some pretty deep sexism. I usually end up calling out whoever asks because honestly, what defines the 'man' or the 'woman'? We're both women and that's pretty much it. We both do 'masculine' things and 'feminine' things.

Omg, I actually got some heterosexual guy really good for asking me that once. He asked me if I was the man or the woman in the relationship. I said "umm the man" and his response was "oh you let the other be the woman then?" I was so baffled and went "umm no I like men, not women.. why would there be a "woman" in a gay male couple?" He was speechless so I added "well I see your woman is pretty masculine, does that make you the woman then?"

LOL he stopped talking to me after that... serves him right.
