I'm enjoying it! Not sure I want to wait for book three to come out in paperback, but hardcovers here run about $30.

Book Title: The Lost and Forgotten Languages of Shanghai

Author: Raiyen Xu

Summary: American-Chinese man, Li Jeng, is enjoying a nice lunch with his father when an explosion rocks the hotel they're in. His father is mostly intact, but Li Jeng gets a traumatic brain injury. He loses the ability to speak/write Chinese and can only speak English. It's tough since his wife and young son only speak Chinese. An American doctor joins the fray to help, but will she make things worse before they get better?

Rating: 5/5 This was a fantastic book! I adored most of the characters (Alan my main man!), even if a few were... not my favorite (like Dr. Rosalyn Neal). I get that she was hurting after a divorce, but... she's not a very good person at times. But yeah. It's a fantastic book! I adored it!

Book Title: The Engineer's Wife

Author: Tracey Emerson Wood

Summary: Historical fiction based on the woman behind the building of the Brooklyn Bridge, Emily Roebling, wife of the chief engineer Washington Roebling.

Review: Fascinating story of all the difficulties and obstructions that were encountered in this monumental project and the courage and determination of a woman who was far ahead of her time. I was disappointed to find out from the author's notes that a major plot thread, of an inappropriate relationship between Emily and P T Barnum (both real historical figures), was completely made up by the author. Even in historical fiction that often embellishes stories of real-life people, this seems dishonest. And doubly disappointing because she apparently didn't think the story of this remarkable woman was enough to keep readers interested by itself. If she had spent more time developing the characters of Wash and Emily to make them seem real 3-D people it would have served her cause better.

Book Title: The Duke and I (Bridgertons Book 1)

Author: Julia Quinn

Summary: Simon Basset, the new Duke of Hastings after his father passes, isn't particularly looking for a wife, but Daphne Bridgerton is looking for a husband. She has her eyes set on the notorious rake, Simon, even if her brothers disagree.

Rating: 5/5 Alright, so I'm more into horror and thrillers than romance, but my goodness, these characters are delightful. I haven't watched the show, but the book is a delightfully told story about the passions between a man unsure of marriage and a woman that would love to have a family. The author skillfully weaves both tales of these two lovers, and since it's set in the Regency period, and I love period pieces? I'm hooked!

Book Title: The Viscount who Loved Me (Bridgertons book 2)

Author: Julia Quinn

Summary: Lucy Sheffield is positive that she'll become a spinster, since her half sister is the pretty one (not to mention an absolute angel in personality) but when she meets Anthony Bridgerton, a Viscount who rankles her, she never expects to fall in love. Neither does he.

Rating: 5/5 Another fantastic romance. I can see why people love these books! Still haven't bothered to watch the show, but I will be reading the rest of these. I especially love how both have dealt with found family, and the characters are wonderful! Colin Bridgerton has stolen my heart. My next read will be a horror/thriller since... I dunno. I want to read a book I bought. lol But these are adorable!
