A Knight's Story

“Oh wow. That’s a really nice drawing and I’d like that very much. I’m not sure if I’m pure of heart but I hope that I would be, well at least enough to meet one. I see but it’s cool that the unicorn still let you take a few strands of her tail even though she was a bit weary of you,” she said in reply after seeing the picture he drew of the unicorn he met just before they stopped outside her house and she heard the question he asked. “Oh no. That’s okay. I can do it before I head back to bed. Would you like to rest here for a bit before you head back? I can ride with you halfway when you’re ready or send a messenger to get Cody so that he can ride back with you.”

Alex made a small sound of complaint when she heard what Bunny said regarding wanting to be fed due to him being hungry before saying while grumbling a bit while trying to wake up some more and rubbing her eyes, “Okay okay Bunbun. Sheesh. It’s still very early. Why do you want to be fed so early?” It wasn’t until a few minutes after she said what she did that she let what else Bunny had said earlier register and that it had also been a few days since she had heard him say both of them to feed him. “Wait m—,” she started to say before turning over and seeing Zane there and lying there beside her. “Zane? I-Is it really you?” she asked with happy tears sparkling in her eyes as she reached over and put a hand on one of his cheeks.

"I'll be fine on my own. Thank you though. I wake up this early for lessons anyway. You take care." He said softly and turned his horse trotting Lilly away.

Zane groaned softly and moved so his head was by her chest still half asleep. "Baby's hungry... But mama is sleepy... " He mumbled.

“Oh okay and you too. Maybe I’ll see see you later if you drop by the castle. I plan on going by there later in the afternoon,” she said in reply before riding Yue to the stables and then after she took the saddle and other things off she went into the house after putting her horse into her stall. She then went to her room, dressed into a nightgown, and then got into her bed before falling asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

“Okay I’ll feed him and then I’ll be back. I’m glad you’re back,” Alex said in reply before kissing him softly on the forehead and then got up reluctantly to follow Bunny downstairs to feed him. Once she did that, she went back upstairs to their room, and cuddled with him once more.

Avery rode straight to the wearhouse/home he shared with Cody. He stables Lilly then slipped in the for quietly to not wake Cody. He felt awful about not responding to his letter and wasn't sure how he was going to tell him the prince knows of his secret now. He hesitated by the door, back to the room as isabo purched on her usual spot and fell back asleep.

Zane smiled when he felt her crawling back in and he pulled her against him. "I missed this. Your brother had a bit of a rough time. Alivia and Edward know now. He got wet and it becomes a little obvious. " He mumbled a little bit more awake now. He opened one eye and looked at her with a sleepy but loving look.

Cody was sleeping when he heard someone come in to the warehouse. He opened his eyes a bit and saw that it was Avery. He smiled before closing his eyes and falling asleep again. He’d ask how it went later when they were both a bit more awake.

Alex smiled when she was pulled closer to Zane before hearing everything he said. “I missed this, too. My conscience was cruel to me yesterday morning, giving me a very vivid dream that made me think I was both awake and that you were back. When I officially woke up and found you weren’t, I had a hard time going back to sleep. That’s not good. How’d they take the news? I can imagine how it’d be a problem with that scenario,” she said and asked in reply while putting a hand against one of his cheeks and also looking back at him just as lovingly as he did her.

Avery sat on his bed staring at the wall until Cody got up. His eyes where red and puffy from crying off and on and he looked scared and worried.

"Edward seemed upset and more like the way one would expect when he found out his newfound love interest was with a man assuming to be a woman the entire time and was understandably upset. He threatened to send him home and I stood up for him when Avery stated to cry. Alivia seemed to be shocked, then understanding of the situation, able to talk down Edward and keep a clear head about it. " He said with a yawn waking up more.

Cody woke up an hour or so later, sitting up and stretching before getting up and heading over to Avery’s room to see him sitting on his bed and looking at the wall. On closer inspection he saw that he was crying and became worried. “Hey love. What’s wrong?” he said and asked with the worried expression still on his face.

“Oh and all that seems like a logical reaction to what happened but Prince Edward threatening him might not have been a good thing to have done,” she said in reply before yawning herself but had the opposite reaction than he did. “I’m going to sleep a bit more,” she said before she started to fall asleep again until her eyes closed again.

"The.... The prince knows of my secret and well..... He said some things that others would say. I don't know what to do. He can anull any type of union we have! He only seemed to turn around because his new girlfriend told him off and Zane did too. I'm scared! He could tell his parents and it'll be all over for me, for us! What if they banish me and make you marry some woman?" He said starting to cry again spitting the last word with jealous venom.

"Go ahead love. I'll be here when you wake. " He said softly and held her close. "I requested the day off for the both of us. " He muttered.

Cody listened to everything Avery said, becoming a bit worried about what would happen but then that faded to turn into determination instead. “I’m glad he ended up turning around and maybe he wouldn’t’ve done that after sleeping on it and waking up the next morning. He may not. Doesn’t the queen already know the truth about you? The only member of the royal family that doesn’t know should only be the king but I could be wrong about that. I don’t think that’ll happen and I wouldn’t marry a woman. I’ll tell them that the only person I’d want to marry is you,” he said in reply to everything he said before holding him in what he hoped was a comforting way.

“I’m glad and you’re the best,” she said in reply before falling completely asleep once more against him after he held her close to him.

Avery looked at him with a mix of awe, shock and gratitude. He would be willing to defy orders to be with him? "Cody.... " He said softly throwing his arms around his neck and kissing him deeply. After a moment he broke it barely and held his (Cody's) cheeks in his hands, golden eyes looking into his blue ones. "And I only want to marry you! I want it so badly I'd give up all my magic and risk it all to be with you! My knight in shining armor... " He tucked his head under Cody's chin hugging him tightly. "I don't know if the Queen knows nor do I care. " He pressed a hand against Cody's chest on his heart. "I love you so much it is unbearable! I just want to be yours forever... "

Zane chuckled. "I know love. The best only for you." He said softly and kissed her head and moving a little bit so he was half sitting up and she was resting comfortably on his chest so his arms where free to read a book. When Bunny crawled back in, the cat curled under his armpit on his other side.

Cody kissed him back while also wrapping his arms around him before the former pulled away and he heard everything he said afterward. “I love that you like using magic and I wouldn’t want you to give it up. Maybe you can disguise yourself as a girl during the ceremony or maybe before we decide on a date, people will be a bit more welcoming of your state. I’m not sure what we can do except for just hoping for the best,” he said before enjoying holding him close before hearing the rest of what he said. “Okay and I do, too on both counts.”

Alex smiled a bit in her sleep when she heard what Zane said and then just slept for another couple of hours or so. When the sun was out a bit more and trying to shine through the shades in their room, she woke up, rubbed her eyes, and then sat up before stretching a bit. “Morning officially love. We should take Toro and Spot out for a ride after breakfast,” she said in greeting after she had woken up more.

Alivia woke up a couple of hours later as well before also stretching and calling for some porridge to be brought to her. When it was, she ate it, got out of bed afterward, and then got dressed after washing her face with the bowl of water that was next to her bedroom door. She then headed out of her room and told her parents that she was going to go riding for a little while. She took some guards with her before she saddled Yue and then took off riding with them towards the castle.

Avery looked up at him again and nodded sniffing and rubbing his eyes. "Alright. Mentor uses a spell to make her appear more like a man, a potion would last only a couple of hours can be made to do the same to me. Let's get through Zane and Alex's wedding first before deciding on our own. " He sniffed and snapped his fingers, ingredients flying around the kitchen making pancakes with blueberries in them. "Breakfast should be ready in a moment. I need to shower. I'm meeting your sister today at the market to look for a gift from us to Alex on her bridal shower. I got to meet her at ten." He said getting up and picking out another dress, this time a vibrant violet one and headed to the bathroom.

Zane got up and scratched his chest then his chin pausing when he felt some stubble on his lip. "Toro was basically ran ragged last night I was in such a hurry to get home. I need to shave and... Ugh, I stink of horse... " He got up and looked in the smooth polished bronze sheld they used as a mirror until they can afford one. "The red is coming out of my hair too. I'm too young to look like a man in his mid thirties." He said softly as he pulled open the curtains a little bit to see better. True only a few red streaks where died a deep red hiding the strands of silver beneath giving him a salt and pepper look with red flakes of paprika thrown in. The salted part was caused by his stressful childhood and his naturally pitch black hair had a few reddish highlights. He sighed softly and leaned on the wabbling side table the shield rested on. "I'm a mess. You of course look like you rolled out of Aphrodite's temple. You sure you want to marry this looser?" He pointed to the mirror image of himself.

Edward grones when something poked him and waived it off. Then growled sitting up when a sharp jab hit him in the ribs. "I can have you- dad? " A wide yawn. "Where am I? I was at the beach house earlier." "You stumbled inside early this morning and fell asleep on this couch and missed breakfast an hour ago." "Wait I missed breakfast?" He shot up so fast and took a few steps before collapsing of light headedness. "Don't worry son, I had yours put aside and kept warm for you." Henry chuckled.

“Okay and sounds good regarding us planning our own wedding after Zane and Alex’s wedding passes. Oh? That sounds fun and I’ll figure out something I can do while you’re out,” he said in reply while watching him make ingredients make blueberry pancakes before Avery got out a vibrant violet dress before going to the bathroom to take a shower. He then turned his attention back to the ingredients making their breakfast while sitting down at the table after getting out of the shower and getting dressed in clean clothes.

“Maybe we can go for a walk instead and have a picnic lunch or dinner later on spilt tree hill. I think you smell okay and can’t tell that you stink of horse,” she said in reply to his first few statements before he got up to go over to their makeshift mirror that was a polished bronze shield and she heard everything else he said as he looked into it. “If you still have some red dye, perhaps you can put some more in to cover up those extra silver streaks. You look the same to me and I don’t think you look like you’re in your mid thirties at all.” She then got up as well when she heard him sigh and then saw him lean against the wobbling side table and went over to him while hearing the rest of what he said and asked. “I don’t think you’re a mess at all and oh um thank you. Of course. You’re the man I love and I did say yes when you asked me,” she said in reply before wrapping her arms around his neck.

Alivia got to the castle a little while later with her guards before riding her into the stable where she saw both the king and Edward conversing over near a couch that was against a wall. She told her guards that they could wait outside before she led Yue over to an empty stall and put her in there before taking off the saddle and everything else. She then went over to the former two after it seemed that their conversation was over and said in greeting with a small curtsy, “Good morning Edward and Your Majesty. I hope I’m not interrupting anything and I apologize for not sending a letter ahead of my arrival that I’d be coming. I was hoping to maybe spend a bit more time with him while exploring the castle a bit more, but I can come back later if now isn’t a good time.”

Avery came out with his hair combed and put on a sun hat and tied it under his chin. He grabbed an apple as the pancakes stacked up six total and set themselves in front of Cody. "Alright, I'm going out. Love you!" He blew a kiss and grabbed his purse heading out to meet his sister at the market.

Zane gave her a tired smile. "You are too perfect love. Let me go so I can shower." He said and removed her arms and got up. He went and showered and was in the bathroom for a while putting the streaks back in his hair and shaving. He got half dressed and let the dye dry as he went downstairs and sat in a chair. He looked out the front window blankly.

"Alivia!" Edward jumped and attempted to fix his cowlick. "Not working son. Go get changed and we'll meet you for breakfast. " Howerd said pushing him twords his room. "No need to apologise my dear, would you like to join us for breakfast? He can show you around the castle after he had something decent in his belly. " He chuckled and waved her to walk with him holding his arm out for her to take. "I feel like a younger man escorting a pretty young lass around my palace. My dear Gwen will be joining us, we'll love to hear about your beach trip. "

Cody watched the pancakes stack themselves after Avery came out with a sun hat on and said after him, “Okay enjoy and I love you too.” He caught the kiss that was blown at him before putting it against his lips and then had his attention go to being on the short stack of six pancakes in front of him before starting to eat them afterward.

“I try and aw do I have to?” Alex said and asked in reply with a small pout before her arms were removed from being around his neck and he went into the bathroom to take a shower. While he was in there, she got out her own clean clothes, dressed in them, washed her face, and then went downstairs to make them some breakfast to eat. She was almost done making the scrambled eggs when she saw him come down and sit in a chair before he looked out of the window. When the eggs were done, she plated them on two plates, and put them on the table. “What’s wrong mi amor?” she asked him before starting to eat her eggs. “Would you like me to rub your shoulders?”

Alivia smiled at him and hid a small giggle behind her hand when she saw him try to fix his cowlick at seeing her before she turned her attention to be on the king afterward and listened to everything he said and asked. “Okay and that sounds lovely,” she said in reply before putting her hand in the crook of his offered arm. “Oh well I’m glad I could make you feel that way and um thanks. That’s fine and I’d love to share with you guys how it went,” she said in reply with a small blush on her cheeks. She was planning on leaving out the little tidbit about Avery’s secret being revealed since she didn’t know if he knew or not and besides it wasn’t her place to say.

Avery met Cody's sister in the market. "Sorry I'm late. Had to make breakfast for your brother. So since Alex has been in the knighthood, she already receives a lot of armor and things, but she's still a girl as much as she hates to admit it, she still loves girly things. So... I'm thinking about getting her a pair of those puffy pants the people wear in Sahar and Agriba, and maybe a dress from there that has the shinny metals that jingle when you walk. There's a stall newly opened at the market dock. " He said as he sat down beside her.

He blinked and looked over at her. "No, I'm just in thought that's all. A little anxious and nervous.... Our wedding day is set and is so close... We're hardly out of our teen years yet..... I barely have any feeling in my skin. Back has none at all, spots on my chest I can still feel and my arms somewhat... I have scars on my legs too. Some of which where self imposed on my skin." He said softly. "I don't know if I can well... " He flushed and shook his head. "N-never mind." He said and sat down thanking her for the meal and ate his eggs.

Howerd had an extra plate brought out for her and the servers filled it up with delicious and healthy foods. "So tell us what went on? Did you enjoy the dinner Edward had planned?" He asked her.

Sarah sat at a table at a small restaurant in the market, waiting for Avery to arrive and then smiling in greeting when he joined her before hearing everything he said afterward. “It’s fine. I wasn’t waiting very long. Both of those things sound like really good ideas of what to get her. We’ll have to find something for Zane as well,” she said in reply just as he sat down beside her.

Alex frowned a bit when she heard everything he said pausing in eating her breakfast for a short minute before asking and saying softly in reply when he trailed off,  “Are you saying that we can’t have kids? I’m a bit nervous myself, but also excited. I can’t wait to be wed to you and finally call you my husband.” She then had her attention go back to being on her food afterward, falling silent as she did so.

Alivia thanked the servers for bringing out an extra plate for her that had her breakfast on it after they joined Gwen and before she heard the king’s questions. “Well we had a lovely ride there, and yes I enjoyed the dinner very much. We also went on a sunset walk on the beach afterward which was nice and also chatted about Zane and Alex’s wedding that’s coming up soon,” she said in reply to them after swallowing a bite of her breakfast.

"Hmm, he's a tricky one. Oh! New tack for Toro? His old ones are getting a little warn out and I spotted a lovely red leather saddle at the livery shop on the way over here. He always uses things until they break down completely, like his sheath. If Cody haven't bought him a new one he'd probably just wrap his blade in cloth or walk around with it exposed. Toro has been complaining about how the saddle rubs his belly raw in spots. " He said finishing his apple and feeding the core to a nearby cart horse who looked grateful for the treat.

He turned scarlet and got flustered. "N-no not exactly. My father at times would invite night workers to the house and after having... Issues.. He'd be upset and beat me. Well, he beat me for anything really, but at the time I had no idea what he was rambling on about. A little bit ago I was looking through the armory of the magical weapons and artifacts and came across a journal of my father's side of the family. In it detailed, that mostly the men would have issues regardless of age in the  bedroom. Still able to have kids, just with some difficulty." he coughed and cleared his throat. "Well I don't know if it will happen to me or not. Apparently it's some curse or something like that due to the killing of a magical creature. This creature unfortunately is extinct due to my family so the information on it and the curse is lost, and I had very angry ancestry on my father's side so their records are a little biased and skewed twords their favor. I've had never really.... Got to that point..." he flushed even more. "Well okay maybe a couple times but not as often as the other guys did in training so I'm unsure if it will apply to me or if somehow I broke the curse by helping a rare magical creature... That's why I'm a little bit nervous. I want to... Well... Be with you the night of our wedding. " He increased his fidgeting with the fork and started to shake from nervousness not making any eye contact with her whatsoever during his talk.

"Ah yes the wedding. They wanted to have a private one, with his Spanish family, and her family there and all, but really it's the talk of the city! Zane was, and still is as popular with the young ladies as Edward was and her being a female knight is a big deal too. " The king chuckled.

 

Edward came in looking groomed and quite nice in pale blue and gold livery sitting down next to Alivia. "Sorry for my tartiness, my hair wouldn't cooperate with me. " He said softly.

“You can also ask Alex for ideas. That’s a good idea. He does, does he? Sounds like a bad habit but good thing you, Cody, and Alex look out for him with those kinds of things along with some other things,” she said in reply before asking a few minutes or so later, “Should we head to those spots you suggested and get those things for them now or would you prefer going a bit later instead?”

She also flushed a bit when she heard everything he said and said and asked in reply, “Oh. Sorry about getting the wrong idea. So were these other relationships you had before I got to the castle for knight training?” She then heard the very last thing he said and blushed a bit darker as well before saying in reply, “I want that too.” She then finished eating her breakfast before getting up and bringing the empty plate over to the sink to wash it later. For now, she just rinsed it off and left it sitting in the sink.

“Oh? I think you and the queen were also invited to go but I’m glad it’s getting so popular. I wonder if they know that. I bet that Alex is glad that they’re engaged or I bet she’d be really jealous of those other women otherwise,” she said in reply before Edward joined them and she heard what he said softly to her. “It’s okay and my hair has been uncooperative before so I understand,” she said before smiling at him and then having her attention going back to being on her breakfast afterward.

"Well, it's not a bad habit, just means he's good at making things last and skilled at budgeting. I would like to talk to you some more. We've only met a couple of times and I wanted to get to know you better. Cody sent me a letter yesterday.... He wants to... Well, marry me. I take it that you know about me and I love him... I guess I just need a little support from someone other than my sister. The prince found out. He didn't take it to well." He said sadly playing with the lace hem where the bodice met the skirts of his dress.

He blinked and his blush faded as he looked confused. "What....other relationships? I did have a small crush on a couple of girls before I met you, but between the intense training my father put me through and the fact that the girls were servent children that my father fired as soon as he found out about my crushes, nothing went anywhere with them except a exchange of niceties and maybe a dandylion I plucked when I was seven to cheer up one girl when she was crying." He said softly and finished his plate nearly choking on the water he drank at her last statement. "Oh *cough* I uh, *cough clears throat* You know I'm going to take care of the garden. They look like they need water. " He said rinsing his plate and dashed outside to the back yard and to his patch of flowers.

"She already has been. She told off a couple of new maids the other day for that reason. Of course we are invited. We are the officiants of the wedding. " Harold chuckled.

“Ah and that’s a nice trait to have. Oh and I would too. I’d also like to know you better and that’s true. That’s a good thing, yes? Yes I do but I haven’t told anyone that doesn’t already know your secret. A few people already know about it, right so as I understand it you have a really good support group. I’m sorry he reacted badly to you but I think he just needs a bit more time to think about it and be on your side,” she be said in reply before putting a gentle hand on his wrist with a smile while trying to comfort him.

“I guess I misheard what you said. Sorry. Oh okay and I didn’t really have any crushes before I got to the castle. I was too busy with training with my dad, uncle, and grandpa before I went to the castle to finish it. Then after I got to the castle my only crush was you,” she said in reply with her own blush before nodding in reply to what he said in regards to him watering the garden and then watched him leave. Then she sighed a bit before going over to where her shoes were, putting them on afterward, and then heading out the door to the stables to give Toro and Spot some attention.

“Oh well I hope they understood why they were dismissed. Ah that’s right and I can’t wait to hear about it the day of. That is if I’m able to get out enough in order to do so,” Alivia said in reply with a was smile before continuing to eat her breakfast.

"So, I want to know what your favorite color is, and what kinds of books you like reading. Oh! And your favorite dessert. It has to be specific not just 'anything chocolate' like mine are chocolate mint truffles and rock candy. " He said with a smile.

Rayna was in the stable tending to Toro. "I see my son is home. Good morning. How did you sleep?" She asked seeing Alex come inside as she fed Toro a red apple.

"Chewed out but not dismissed. She can't fire anyone, she just protects my wife. I'm sure they don't want a big fuss over their wedding, however they are uniteing the two strongest and oldest knight family's in the kingdom, the other one being Cody's family but I also know that Alex's sister is being courted by Cody and they have adopted Zane until he's old enough to be an adult. " He said and Edward coughed at the name and at the mention of Alex's 'sister'.

“You’re welcome and I’m glad. I know he loves you very much as well,” she said in reply before hearing the rest of what he said afterward. “My favorite color is silver and I like adventure, romance, and horror books. My favorite desserts are chocolate cake, truffles and cookies,” she said in reply with the smile still on her face.

“He is and good morning. I slept okay and better than I had the days prior to today since I missed him and my mind played a cruel joke on me. You?” she said and asked in reply to Rayna’s statement and question before brushing Spot down. “I made him a bit flustered this morning, though and he’s watering the garden in our backyard. I haven’t seen him that flustered since the first night of the ball when we were still in training and he spoke his interest in wanting to court me.”

“Oh okay. I heard that she could have a temper at times but I hope she wasn’t too harsh with them. I’m sure they don’t as well and that’s very interesting. I didn’t know that. Yes that’s true,” she said in reply before having her elbow lightly go into Edward’s side when she heard him cough at the mention of Alex’s ‘sister’ because she didn’t want him (Edward) letting the king know about his (Avery) secret in case Avery wanted to do that later. It also wasn’t his (Edward) place to tell him (the king), or at least that was her unspoken opinion anyway.

"I love adventure and romance books, I'll let you read the one I'm working on, about a young man who is on a sailboat that is powered by sunlight who finds himself owing a life debt to a begger woman who saved him from a fight and takes her back to her homeland. I'm writing it, in what little free time I can scrounge up right now. I hope it's good." He said softly. "How about we shop then look at the sweetshop and get us a couple of treats? I should get Cody some too, he seems to have a sweet tooth, but he's too darn kind that I'll ask him about his favorite candy and he always says 'i love everything you make' . He's certainly a gentleman. " He said softly and a light blush.

I don't think he needs to worry. He talks to me about everything." She winked at her. "He's a Mama's boy through and through. So... I know he got that flustered because you looked gorgeous to him in the red dress, then when I went into check on him after supper and you went to bed after walking him to his room he drunkenly told me that his brain was being naughty and wanted you to stay with him that night. He gets awfully truthful when drunk on wine. Ale makes him very emotional and beer just makes him as stubborn as a mule and as dumb as a bag of marbles with a hole in it. " She shook her head.

“It sounds like we both like some genres of books in common. I’d love to read it the next time we meet. It sounds very interesting and I’ll let you know if it is,” she said in reply to the first few statements he said before hearing the rest of what he said and asked afterward. “Sounds like a good plan and he likes anything chocolate or has chocolate in or on it if that helps narrow it down some,” she said in reply before getting up and waiting for him to do the same of he was ready.

“Yes. He got that way after saying that he’d like to be with me on our wedding night and then got more so when I said that I wanted that as well which is understandable since well...,” she said and trailed of as she started to blush again and had to have her attention be on Spot’s flank where she continued to brush a bit more. She then started to brush his mane when she heard the rest of what she said. “He did and he also said that he’s a bit nervous and anxious. Oh and I didn’t know that. Good to know for future when he does those things later after drinking those drinks,” she said with a small smile before sighing. “I’m a bit worried about him. When he got out of bed this morning, he asked me if I still wanted to marry him but he called himself a loser. I’ve never heard him do that before. Of course I told him that I would because he’s the man I love but I didn’t like hearing him call himself a loser.”

Alivia gave him a look that said, Really? I didn’t even hit you that hard after she heard him say “ow” and then nodded at his look before turning her attention to being back on the conversation.

“Sorry I spaced out for a bit. I think that Alex does a good job at keeping me safe but needs to work on not being so jealous when the maids look at Zane. I’ve told her as much and she said that she’d work on it and also that after they’re officially married, there won’t be that many looks and she’d be able to focus on her duties a bit more. I will miss her though when they go on their honeymoon to Spain but I know that I’ll still be in good hands,” Gwen said in reply to Harold’s question.
