NaNoWriMo

Recommended Posts

There *used* to be, somewhere on the NaNo site, I think under the FAQ, something saying that the actual staff pronounced it "NaNoWreeMo", but it's not there anymore and anyways in the NaNoVideos it's pronounced NaNoWr*I*Mo. Which is how I've always said it.

I'm glad I've got a bit of a lead, wordcount-wise, 'cause I have a feeling today won't go so well. It's been a *bad* day.

*cheers Gluria*

Wow, Gluria! Good job! =o *clap clap*

I always pronounced it "Nan-No-Wry-Moh" but I normally get things wrong. >_>

I'm happy to say that I just passed 50k biggrin.gif The story is definitely not done though, so I will keep working my way towards "the end"

I've heard about it alot.png on dragonflycave.com and have wondered about it. Now I know what it is at least. Maybe I'll participate.

'Grats!

Well, I just finished NaNo.

My goal wasn't to write 50 000 words, but rather to finish the novel I have been working on for two years now.

I wrote ~ 32 000 words in the first two weeks of november and just finished my first novel.

I'm so happy right now, I don't know what to say biggrin.gif

Aww, that's so great; congrats!

~

I've pushed back the bedtime I don't adhere to anyway by an hour and can get around 2k words done in this time (usually a little more), so I've managed to stay ahead of the default word goal. Hard to believe I felt like crying when NaNo first came up in my inbox, lol. x3

I should probably try to crank out even more extra over the weekend, as I'm pretty sure where I'm going for Pagosa doesn't have internet, so I'm not even sure I'll be bringing my computer.

Keep trucking, everyone!

Warning: The novel excerpt may contain adult themes but won't contain nudity or pornography. My novels are here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/participants/d...ingheart/novels but I won 2009 and 2010 as well, the function to save the stats just didn't exist then. Sadly.

NaNo is like my personal holiday every year (as long as I finish before American Thanksgiving.) This year, though, I have a husband who's recovering from surgeries, a cranky 9 year old with high-functioning autism (we're trying to adjust her ABA to match, but it's not going well. ABA is applied behavioral analysis - a way of asking what my daughter gets by doing what she's doing, and attempting to find safe alternatives for the same actions - like smacking her head, we replaced that with heavy metal music. Works very well. She's a fan of (clean or wordless) Korn, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden (almost always clean anyway) old-school Metallica, and the Beastie Boys.) I also have a pair of six year old princess drama queens (we call them Kitty and LuLu) and four cats.

My plot this year involves a corrupt "ghost hunting" team and an actual haunted house, plus a guy with problems of his own and a secret past he doesn't know about - yet. It's enjoyable but I think completely for my own amusement.

How's wordcount today?

798 words today, it's night, I have work in the morning, I've been having anxiety attacks all day, and my body is ready to just freakin' give up. I don't think I'll be hitting my usual 2k tonight.

But I'm still ahead. A little. Enough.

I decided to do Nano- at least once if only to say I did it or tried, to do it. I joined late around Nov 8 so was behind from the start. However, I am making lots of ground or seem to be as I have at the moment over 29,000 words.

As long as nothing blocks me should make that 50,000. It is fun but challenging none the less.

Notepad and Wordpad don't have a wordcount function.

However, the NaNoWriMo site itself has a tool that will calculate your wordcount for you. On the "edit novel" page, right under the Word Count place where you can manually type in your wordcount, is a link that reads "I am ready to validate my novel". Forget the validation part for now, and just paste everything you've written into the box that pops up. It will give you an accurate wordcount.

edit: I gave myself nightmares last night, after writing roughly 1.5k detailing all of Angie's murders. ... It's pretty sick. I actually loved writing it, but... yeah.

edit2: I posted that part of my story on my LiveJournal. It comes with warnings, but... If anyone wants to check it out: ~Good writing but not board appropriate!~

Sorry Marie. It's good writing, but I had to remove the link. ^^

Whoo, I am less than 10k away! Keep it up everyone! Thanksgiving is the toughest time for many Wrimoers, but you can turn it into a great writing session if you just write late at night. =p

Sorry Sock, I totally blanked on forum rules!

I'm stuck. I'm at 40k, and I'm stuck. Because I can't plan ahead worth crap, and all the scenes I had in my mind have now been written. So I must attempt plotting today.

I started November 8 and because of it wasn't worried if I would hit the mark or not. I write about a minimum 2 hours each night and more on the weekends. Some nights after work didn't feel like writing so missed about 4 nights. Still, this weekend I was nearing the 40,000 mark and I knew if I pushed I could probably hit the 50,000. At the moment over 44,000 until I do tonights work.

*laughs like mad scientist*

*edit to add*

I now need about 2,300 words to be at the 50,000 mark and will most likely be over it as my story isn't done yet. biggrin.gif

*cheers Ramica!*

I passed the 50k mark on the 26th. I got to 51,300 and I haven't touched it since. I need a break now, lol

The novel itself isn't done yet, but I am!

Official validated word count at 56,628, and it's break time for me! Got to get back to updating my current WIP fanfic now, lol, I haven't touched it since the 28th of October or so.

Yeah, only 3,000 left to go. I have tomorrow and Friday homework-free, so I'm going to go a bit ahead of myself and say that I'm home free! smile.gif

Finished Nano on wed with over 5600 words. The story wasn't finished as I still had the final confrontation to do. Last few days relaxed from that hard push to get from 40,000 to the 50,000 and beyond.

I just learned that there's a summer version of Nanowrimo over at http://www.campnanowrimo.org/

If you already have a Nanowrimo account you can login with that account on this website too. You can be assigned a cabin with a bunch of people (around 5 or 6, maybe more I'm not sure) where you can chat, discuss things, encourage each other, etc.

The wordcount goal's also customizable, all the way down to 10,000 words instead.

Writing months are April, June and August, with one-month breaks in between. Since I didn't win the main November one, I'm trying again. Unfortunately I just started yesterday so I'm a little behind on my wordcount >_>

Oh, Camp! I'm doing Camp NaNo as well. smile.gif I find it much easier to write when you're in a cabin. But good luck catching up!

I'm doing the camp too. So far have seven thousand words in my historical fiction. Only 43 thousand more to go!

I did Camp! I say "did" because I reached my goal of 30k last night, but I'm still writing. And man I think my characters hate me. At least they should, after everything I've put them through (8,000-odd words on multiple scenes of arguing and fighting and shouting about why they should/shouldn't be together!)
