Spyro the dragon series

Recommended Posts

Yes, yes I am. A lot of us are. I really just don't like the new games in general. And no, not just because of the crappy Spyro re-design, I mainly hate the fact that they try to pull it off as a Spyro game. They probably could have done just as well without throwing in the Spyro characters.

But the game's name is Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure.

Yeah, totally not a Spyro game.

Well that's the way I like to look at it a game with Spyro in it

Besides Skylanders wasn't made for Spyro fans it was made for children a group of people who don't know how to complain about things yet

I love Spyro, but unlike others I think Insomniac are the original owners, since they did create it. But I hate Sparx in the early games, he gave me nightmares ninja.gif. I don't think Skylanders is a proper Spyro game, it just has Spyro in to boost sales, and why do they sell Cynder later at Christmas? It's because they want MORE money from people, the people who made Skylanders mainly want money.

Why did Sparx scare you? Was it the buzzing noise? 'Cause that did get very, very freaky at certain points.

Anyway, I don't even know anything about Skylanders, and I'm trying to keep it that way... x3

The very first Spyro game is my entire childhood, though. Especially the Magic Crafters world, with the beautiful mountains and the colorful skies and the druids who ran around flailing their arms and shouting "aaaaaa aaaaaa aaaaaa" like total idiots. And then they started laughing in your face, even though you were seconds away from roasting their sorry beards.

Best. Game. Evuh.

I'm trying to come up with nicknames for all the background music tracks. If anyone's familiar with the original Spyro and wants to suggest any nicknames, I'm all ears. biggrin.gif

Edited for typos.

again Skylanders was aimed at children a group who of people who don't even know who Spyro is so that automatically invalidates your argument that Spyro and Cynder were just shohorned in so that activision could make money

Wait, what? Children not complaining? You must know some very disciplined kids then, every child I have ever known has complained at least once.

Besides, we aren't complaining. We're raging against crappy games and expressing our hatred. Those two are completely different.

Skylanders isn't really a bad game as far as gameplay goes.

(the storyline can be really cheesey though)

It just isn't a spyro game at all. Spyro is just sort of a guest character they used/abused to get people to buy the game. Personally I think they could have just left him out and it would do just as well.

I also agree that sparx is really freaky looking in that game.

How many times do I hve to say this Skylanders was made for children a group of people who don't know who Spyro even is that automatically kills any argument that Activision shoehorned him in there to make money.

If Skylanders was targeted towards children who don't know who Spyro is, there was really no reason to include him. Kids would probably have been just as happy with any other cool-looking non-Spyro character, because the hypothetical new character would be just as new to them as Spyro would be.

If you were a kid hearing about some "awesome" new video game/toy series with a star you'd never heard of, would you care whether he was "Spyro the purple dragon" or "Krakel the red dragon" or "Shade the black dragon" (assuming the last two look nothing like Spyro)? I wouldn't.

Also, there are definitely some children who know Spyro, having either played Spyro games themselves or watched their older siblings playing those games. These children would at least notice that something drastic happened to Spyro.

...Anyone else wanna talk about something other than Skylanders? Like, for example, what was your favorite level/world/portal/stage in any of the games?

Autumn Lake, or whatever the second hub world of Spyro 2 is one of my all-time favorites. It was just so gorgeous, just the huge open spaces for gliding, the leaves and little lake, the giant building... temple... thing. And I loved the harbor, Zephyr, and the... ... place with the fauns (Fracture Hills? It's been a while).

And I just loved every single setting for the Legend of Spyro games. Top favorites go to Convexity, Cynder's Lair, Twilight Falls, the Burned Lands... oh god, and Avalar and the Dragon City...

... okay, actually, EVERYWHERE in Dawn of the Dragon was absolutely gorgeous. I think Avalar and the Falls tie for top spot though, because they also had the best music of the game (barring the ending song, of course).

I love the Cynder battle, though I lost the game I remember it was one of my favorites. New Beginning me thinks?

I loved playing the first 3 Spyro games, those will always hold some good nostalgic memories for me. I still remember some of the most annoying quests, like the one where you escort the blind scientist holding a potion, and he drops it if he's hit once. What a jerk. I had to restart the quest so many times, I have Hunter's dialogue memorized to this day, lol.

Pretty much everything after the first 3 were terrible in my opinion, and not just gameplay wise. I didn't like how Spyro went from an arrogant, cocky runt to a pessimistic teenager brooding in angst. Sparx become super annoying too, I preferred it back when he only spoke like 3 times in an entire game, instead of being such an obnoxious tie in for comedic relief. The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night had the absolute worst difficulty curve to the point it was the opposite of fun , but at least it wasn't like Enter the Dragonfly with its 15 minute loading screens.

But yeah I like the Spyro series, though it's been dead to me for a long time =)

I just popped in the first Spyro the Dragon PS1 game last night (after this board).

It's a fun trip down memory lane.

It would be fun to see a revamp of the game with HD graphics (but still relatively untouched, just polish up the polygons).

Though I was sad to see that I thought I had Spyro 2 there is no trace of it.

Excellent game, in my opinion smile.gif Fantastic gameplay, beautiful scenery and music, and a decent story to carry things along. It also has one of the best ending songs I've heard in a game, period.

I managed to find Spyro 2 and Spyro Year of the Dragon at a vintage stock game store in perfect condition (one was missing the case but thanks the the wide world of the internet I printed off some inserts for it, no manual though)

My personal opinion the spyro games is that the first three were the best, for PS1. After they started making them for PS2, they just kept getting not as good. They didn't have an objective anymore, and they had too many glitches. Once you got to a certain point in the newer ones, you couldn't advance any further.

Like Nine, I preferred the first three in the series, the ones made by Insomniac Games. I really like the games they've put out.

I tried to get into Spyro after Insomniac sold the rights, but I didn't enjoy them as much. I completed Spyro: Season of Ice and Spyro 2: Season of Flame, and pre-ordered Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, but by then Spyro had lost it for me as a series and I ended up cancelling my preorder for it. The Season games just weren't as fun, I didn't enjoy the music as much, and he just wasn't as engaging a character for me anymore.

It's easy to say i'm absolutely obsessed with dragons due to the Legend of Spyro series. The gameplay is so unique and immersive, and Spyro and Cynder are soooooooo awesome (And attractive). The old Spyro i'm indifferent about, and I just HATE Skylanders. Spyro + Cynder forever!

Sorry to reply to an old post, but these conclusions infuriate me:

i used to ship spyro with cynder, but then it occured me technically...theyre siblings

No, they aren't. Spyro and Cynder simply hatched from the same generation of eggs, Ignitus clearly said nothing about them sharing parents. Do you really think ONE mother can give birth to an entire ring of eggs, or if they even give birth to more than one egg at a time? No, Spyro and Cynder are free to stay together. wub.gif

I still play Dawn of the Dragon all the time when I can.

P.S.: I made so many spelling mistakes typing this post in, I love them so much my perception is totally scrambled. I'm not even sure if my head is shaking or not, my vision just blanked. Hehheeeeheeeeeeheeeeee... I'm crazy.

EDIT:

AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!

I'm so obsessed... sorry

This. Those are my two favorite levels in Dawn of the Dragon, but the whole game is breathtaking. The music is wonderful too. And I agree about the ending song (I have it on my iPod biggrin.gif)

@iluvdna: Technically they aren't brother and sister, but at some point (in the first two games of the DotD series) they considered themselves brother and sister. Especially the second game.

So yes, they're free to stay together, but that might be what people are getting at.

*loves everything Spyro to no end*

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one obsessed. (Did I even read this thread?!?!)

LoS gave my life it's purpose. I remember getting it for Christmas 2006 after begging my mom to get it several thousand times. Then, in 2007, I saw a commercial for The Eternal Night (The only LoS commercial i've ever seen), and I was just ecstatic! I saw in on a shelf in Toys 'R' Us, and tried to get my mom to get it, but I seemed to suddenly acquire Aphasia from the excitement and just couldn't tell her. (I have learned to bring the true dragon within me to the surface, but haven't done that back then.) In 2008 I managed to get Dawn of the Dragon for my birthday, it took me 5 YEARS to beat but it was sooooo worth it. I beat it on New Year's Eve 2012 with my best friend who moved to Ohio some months ago. Defeating Malefor was so much fun, Brian (My best friend) and I were so focused on finding funny names in the credits that we missed the song. sad.gif

I then went ahead to finally buy The Eternal Night for PS2, and then played Dawn of the Dragon again (This time only taking 8 hours) and heard the song. I was in tears before the song even hit the halfway point, then some serious memory loss kicked in as I forgot the entire final cutscene. Seeing Spyro and Cynder fly happily above the Valley of Arvalar hit me so hard with joy, it lit the wick of Dragon Obsession that had been extinguished ever since 2009 when Sierra was eaten alive by Activision.
