I saw a funny post in FB. "I sent the cat for groceries" and there's the cat at the screen door with a dead mouse in her mouth.

I hope the cat wore its mask. XD

I'm not the only one missing the dashboard, it seems. Maybe it will return by popular demand.

Otherwise, I'd have sent you some ;). We're still under 50, although it was super-close last week, 49.something. The hotspot here is some sort of Bible School.

Nah, I'm fine. I also got enough pasta for a couple of weeks, more rice than I'll probably eat this year, various canned stuff and, well, whatever else. :)

As of today, Solingen is at a whopping 136.2 new infections per week and 100 k population. We're visibly in a phase of exponential growth (of overall cases).

70 new cases yesterday (for a total of 5,773), 68 on my island, and 1 additional death. :(

I miss the old dashboard... (I'll stop saying that now. I'm sure it's driving you guys nuts.)

Well, one area in Germany (Berchtesgarden, 272 per 100 k population per week at the moment) has been put into what I'd call full lockdown. It's pretty much locked down safe for essential services. Schools, kindergardens, any and all places of entertainment/recreation are shut down. People are not supposed to leave their homes unless it's for (grocery) shopping, doctor's visits, and a few select other things.

At least politicians are willing to do lockdowns on a small scale when necessary.

In Düsseldorf you can now get toilet paper 24/7 in a newly designed toilet paper vending machine by Hakle XD

For some reason, we still have a 7-day-incidence of less than 50. The little Gallic village...

The little red dot in between the light orange surroundings. We are at 55.5 per 100,000 :/

Bonn? Then you are not so far away either. I wish I could remember where @Fly-by-Night was (my memory doesn't get better with age XD), but I think it was somewhere in the relative vicinity, too.

My wife works near D-dorf - luckily she can do quite a bit of home office but tomorrow she has to go into the office and with the trains being detoured and the bus drivers on strike PLUS corona you can guess how happy that makes us. I'm not exactly looking forward to next week when we'll be getting pupils from all over Germany back after the fall holiday - it's a catastrophe waiting to happen (although so far we'd been lucky).

@Herk

You say something. The initially rise of infections came with all the holiday-returners from the summer holidays, too. I really wonder why people just have to travel around in such times. *smh*

@Astreya for us it'S a bit different. I work at a boarding school, so even the kids who only went home will now come back from all over Germany, Hamburg, Berlin, Bavaria - and then for teh weekend they will return from hotspot Bonn to their homes :/

It's kinda necessary because we work with a specialised school and many of our kids can't function in the regular school system still I kind of worry. My employer takes teh whole thing seriously but many of our kids don't - comes with the territory of being a teenager I guess.

@Herk

That sounds like quite a problem then. I really hope you'll manage to stay safe anyway!

By the way, I updated the map cut-out so that now one can see Oberhausen, Düsseldorf, Solingen and Bonn with black borders (little service for the non-German readers). ^^

 Very cool feature.

I hope you and yours manage to stay healthy as well. Winter will get quite difficult with people being stuck indoors all the time.

Thanks for that!

Stay safe, all of you!

That does sound tricky for school and travel, @Herk.

agreed.  they've already edited a sound byte from Dr Fauci that makes it sound like he's praising trump's response to covid. icky.

After ridiculing Joe Biden for stating that he'd listen to science, Mr.Trump now continues his attacks by going after Dr.Anthony Fauci:

Quote

Donald Trump has once again attacked his top public health expert, using a call with campaign staff on Monday to deride Anthony Fauci as “a disaster” and to claim “people are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots” discuss ways to combat the coronavirus.

The president spoke one day after CBS’s 60 Minutes aired an interview with Fauci, in which the 79-year-old said he was “absolutely not” surprised Trump recently contracted the coronavirus himself, because he was holding crowded events with minimal social distancing and use of masks in the days before he developed symptoms.

Fauci also told CBS the White House had been controlling his media appearances.

“I certainly have not been allowed to go on many, many, many shows that have asked for me,” he said, adding that restrictions had been inconsistent.

On the campaign call, Trump said: “Every time he goes on television, there’s always a bomb, but there’s a bigger bomb if you fire him.”

Biden was off the campaign trail on Monday, but his campaign praised Fauci and criticized Trump for “reckless and negligent leadership” that “threatens to put more lives at risk.”

“Trump’s closing message in the final days of the 2020 race is to publicly mock Joe Biden for trusting science and to call Dr Fauci, the leading public health official on Covid-19, a ‘disaster’ and other public health officials idiots,’” the campaign said.

The chances of Trump firing Fauci have been an ever-present part of US political life under the pandemic, the doctor’s straight answers to media questions often placing him at odds with a president who equally habitually makes misleading claims or lies outright.

As for the situation in NRW - no more Gallic village for Oberhausen. But on the plus side, Bonn went back from red to orange:
