Vaughn raised an eyebrow to the answer the man had given her. It made sense but she didn't feel like hearing it again. She returned her veiw to the dwarf man, waiting to see who would lower their wepons first. Larine or Ragathar? She found the silence of the moment madning , thus, the she-elf began focusing on the smallest of things from the fly buzzing over the carcass of a dead warg to the sudden but small way the roots of a tree further back twards the forest moved. Wait, what?

Ragathar eyed the group: a Dwarf, what looked to be two Elves, and... bollocks. Ragathar's vision wasn't good enough to make out the rest of the figures. Upon hearing the Elf's demands, the Dwarf raised his ax in the air, and yelled,

"I will listen to no command coming from an Elf! I'll die before I let that happen".

Ragathar glanced over to the She-Dwarf accompanying the elves.

What is a Dwarf doing with the likes of Elves?! Has she gone insane?

The Dwarf raised his head and grinned.

"Ma ôhfûkizu kuthu khathuzh aslônî", he yelled to the Dwarf.

If she doesn't respond, I'll have to make a run at them; but chances are I won't get very far. That Elf has had her bow on me since I spotted them.

((Okay folks, just wanted to clarify in case there’s any confusion… Anything I type between these | | is the Common Tongue translation of whatever was said in Khuzdul. Khuzdul is only spoken/understood by Dwarves, but I figure it’s only fair for all players to know what’s being said even if their characters don’t wink.gif . Having said that, the translation of what Ragathar said is |Rejoice not when an elf falls|…))

When the unknown Dwarf responded to Larien with what could only be considered a challenge, Shala once again brought a hand to her forehead while shaking her head in frustration. However, when he then called out the first part of an old Dwarvish joke, she couldn’t help but give a wry grin as she replied, “Ni ma mahùlchùp agrîfumùn hi ya.” |but don't rush to pick him up either.| Though she did have to admit that, as far as Elves went, Larien wasn’t bad and had always treated her with courtesy and respect. The other Elves, on the other hand…well… Of course, the way things were going, she knew it would be quite the task trying to convince this Dwarf of that fact.

Still hoping to avoid any violence with this Dwarf, Shala then held her hands up in a placating gesture; one hand facing Larien and the other facing the Dwarf. “Come now," she said in a 'let's be reasonable' tone, "let us all please at least put up our weapons for a parlay.”

When Shala sugested Putting up their wepons, Vaughn couldn't help it. Her face showed plainly that not only was she surprised but also confused. She did'n know much abput dwarves but everything she had heared had come from other woodland elves who never mentioned any dwarf ever even considering this. Apparently she had chosen the wrong people to ask about dwarves. Oh well. Shala was good so Vaughn could assume there were other reasonable dwarves in middle earth, she was still veary young for an elf and she knew it she also knew that- being so young- she could harldy expect to know everything about anything. She replaced the odd expresion with something that implied she was simply curious about what Ragathar and Larine would do next.

As Cuthraed listened to the others, he brow furrowed in confusion over what the two Dwarves were saying to each other. Though he hadn’t had many dealings with Dwarves, they had always spoken in the Common Tongue. Wondering if it was perhaps the ‘secret’ language he’d once heard of long ago, he leaned a little toward Vaughn and quietly asked, “Do you know what they were saying?”

Vaughn looked up at Cuthraed in a curious mannar." Do I look like a dwarf to you?" She said in reply to his question. She then let her mind wander. Did she-in any way- look anything like a dwarf?! She did'nt think dwarves looked bad just...well..not quite...oh well, whatever. She was unaware of how she looked but they had bench sleeping in the dirt and grass for a few days so she probibly looked nothing like she did when she left Mirkwood. Suddenly she forgot all the times she had felt the green necklace and- in fear that she had lost it- quikly reached for it with her right hand. Good, she had it. Vaughn lowered her hand and imedietly forgot about the necklace again, unaware she wore it.

Larien listened to the Dwarves speak, not preferring that she did not know what was being said. Though, the Dwarves and Men must feel this way when her kin speak to each other. Very few Men, even rarer for Dwarves, could speak fluently in their languages. She doubted even most Elves now even knew Quenya as well as herself. It was a lost language for this time.

Shala suddenly asked for parlay while Larien was lost on her kind's history floating through her vast memory. Parlay without weapons after the Dwarf was going to basically come over with his weapon drawn supposedly asking for assistance. She didn't trust that. But something about it intrigued her. Shala was a reasonable Dwarf that Larien hadn't found a reason to distrust as of yet. She also knew what the other Dwarf said and did not seem worried it may spark a conflict.

The she-elf still kept her bow slightly drawn as she got off of Aklen. Never loosing sight of her target's weak point. Aklen stayed still, curious to see if she would shoot. She didn't, letting the bow's draw return to a rest as she put the arrow in her quiver. "If he does not lower his weapon I will shoot." She notified Shala and the others not loud enough for the male Dwarf to hear. Now it was his turn to decide if they would take the parlay.

Cuthraed was a little baffled by Vaughn’s answer, and with a raised brow he said, “Of course not, but I have never heard the language they are speaking, and was wondering if you were familiar with it. Or, were they speaking in the secret Dwarf-tongue?” Though he was curious, he certainly wasn’t going to ask either Dwarf even if an opportunity to presented itself. When Larien dismounted her horse, he nodded at her words as he watched to see what the Dwarf would do.

When Larien dismounted and put her arrow away, Shala was starting to hope that the Elf was going to be reasonable. However, at Larien’s comment, she had to resist the urge to once again bring her hand to her head in exasperation. True, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable, but still… Mahal give me strength, she thought as she wondered just what she was getting herself in to. Using the similar tone and loudness that Larien had used, Shala said, “I would rather you did not.” She then called again to the Dwarf, “Please.” She then switched to Khuzdul again and said, |Though they are my allies, I will not allow them to harm you any more than I would allow you to harm them.|

((Yeah, I don’t know how to actually translate all that into Khuzdul, so what say we just go with it, okay? unsure.gif ))

Vaughn, at the realization of her reply, smiled awkwardly."Heh! Sorry, it's just that I don't see the piont in a dwarf, when saying things only ment for another dwarf, speaking a language elves understand when they are surroundered by both elves and men." She kept her voice down. "It would be pointless. I am sorry for the rudeness of my answer." She turned back to the dwarf man. Her thoughts registered:

"But it would be nice to know what they were saying.."

Ragathar looked to Vaughn with grimace.

"It is an old Dwarfish tale of a giant Sea Serpent".

He smiled back at Shala, chuckling for a moment. But as she spoke, his face turned to slight understanding, but it was hard to put aside the hatred of a race so quickly. The Dwarf replied, l What makes you so sure these Elves are so trustworthy, Dwarf? What are you even doing with these creatures anyways? l

Ragathar's eyes darted to the leader of the group, a tall Elf wielding a bow. He had conflicting feelings at this point.

If I lower my weapon, then she could still shoot. But, if I don't lower my weapon, she will shoot.

Ragathar looked the she-Elf dead in the eye, his sun burnt face scrunched up into a mass of red flesh, and dropped his ax.

((Welcome Waltzer smile.gif. Not meaning to be fussy, but I must admit to being uncertain on Robin’s sword. To the best of my admittedly limited knowledge on metals, a blade made of silver wouldn’t hold up very well under use. I also don’t know what ‘Manifested by elves’ means, but yeah…Having said that, it may not be an issue so I’ll simply defer to the others on this one.

LegendOfKorraFan, not sure if you missed where I posted before, but I’ve got a question on Ragathar’s age. In Middle Earth, a 30 year old Dwarf is not quite an adult yet, so 36 would still be rather young. However, the impression I get is that he’s older. Now, not sure if I’m perhaps misinterpreting, so I’m wondering what is your intent with Ragathar’s age? Is he a 36 year old youngster, or is he the equivalent of 36 which would be about 113? Sorry if it seems I’m pressing this question, but I’d like to see him the way you do. After all, Shala would react differently to a youngster than she would someone closer to her age (she’s 92 which equates to about 30)… Thanks. happy.gif Also, may I ask whether Ragathar is one of Durin’s folk, or if he’s from one of the other clans? ))

When the Dwarf dropped his axe, Shala wanted to start walking toward him but wasn’t going to until all weapons were put up. After all, the Dwarf wouldn’t know that Larien wouldn’t shoot him the moment Shala’s back was turned and she had given her word that she wouldn’t let anyone harm him. Turning to Larien, she looked pointedly at the bow still in her hand, but then her look softened as she said, “Your bow will not be needed.” She truly did trust that the Elf would not shoot, but she also knew she’d probably be just as cautious if she was in his position.

Thinking about his questions, she once again spoke in Khuzdul as she said, |To be perfectly honest, I’m not yet sure about the Woodland Elves, but the one with the bow has, through her actions, proven herself to be trustworthy. Twice now we have been outnumbered in attacks by Goblins and Wargs,| she gestured to the nearby corpses, |and after each attack she did not hesitate to offer to heal my wounds. The second wound was poisoned and could have been fatal…|

She paused for a moment in thought, and then continued, |As to why I am traveling with this little company…Well, would Dwarf-men allow me to travel with, and fight beside them?| She answered her own question by shaking her head as she thought of the time she encountered some Dwarven merchants in her travels. She knew they had meant well, but their stubborn insistence that they escort her to the safety of a Dwarven hall had had her rather put out, and she quickly parted ways with them. She was in no hurry to go through that again.

Vaughn shook ber head. When an arrow is aimed for your head, tales of sea serpants isn't or at least shouldn't be the first thing you think of. She looked up at Cuthraed then to the tall blacck horse beneath him and stroked it. Her thoughts ran away to Mirkwood and the beutifull silver horse she had left there.

Larien distrusted the new Dwarf but sheathed her bow by putting it on her person, draped over her shoulder and body at an angle to show it was truly put away. The she-elf stayed silent though, trying to make the most fo the conversation Shala was having with her fellow kinsmen. She knew little Dwarvish- only a few greetings here and there from previous studdies really, nothing quite useful at all- and disliked not being able to understand what was being said.

Judging by their actions however, the elf did not discern that the talk would turn hostile. Unless the male dwarf picked up his old tactics of greeting new company with a weapon drawn again. Then it may. But only if he showed true signs of attacking first. Which had always been Larien's policy. Something not many amoung this land showed anymore she realized. Hardly anyone ever truly waited for that intial all-telling sign of impending attack. Just because someone had their weapon drawn or were making threats did not mean they wished to attack- or at least at that moment. She had adopted the policy of waiting until they showed actual signs of attacking or acting upon the threats made before choosing her shots. Usually the shots ended to maime, not kill. Very rarely did she ever kill unless she saw no other choice. Especially during something so fickle as negociations. Given her ability too, the maime never lasted very long once the trigger or issue was resolved.

But Larien jolted herself out of her brief thoughts, watching body movement as well as subtle tell-tale signs of her suspect's eyes. She wanted to know everything he was thinking. She wanted to be absolutely sure he wasn't going to double-cross them all and attack with their backs turned. The she-elf could plainly see he held a common distrust for her kin in general, which didn't surprise her at all and was rather understandable. She herself did not hold that same distrust so lightly. She believed everyone should be given a chance to prove themselves if they did not attack first.

When Larien had put her bow away, Shala gave her a grateful look, and then speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear, she said, “Just we two shall approach.” With that, she started to walk forward with the intention of stopping at about the halfway point between where they were and where the Dwarf-male was; expecting him to do the same.

Cuthraed raised a brow at the Dwarf’s sea serpent comment, and when Vaughn looked at him, he gave a slight shrug to indicate his confusion but remained silent. When the Elf then looked to his grey horse, at the angle he was at, it almost seemed to him that she’d gotten a distant look on her face, but he couldn’t be sure. At Shala’s words, he nodded as he slightly relaxed his grip on his spear. Though he was still staying alert, he looked back to Vaughn and remembering the way she had reacted to the offer of a ride, he was hoping to perhaps help put her at ease as he quietly said, “His name is Garulf.”

"And from this day, this awful knight shall be banished from our kingdom",Said a haughty figure. Robin left the court, slamming the doors behind him and went on to his house to get his gear and his horse 'Arch'. "So that's what i get after years of loyal service and numerous battles won which were led by me!",Robin murmured angrily.

He wore his armor, took the Scythes, mounted the horse and dashed out of the town's gates. "If i want to survive i will need company"He said. He galloped within the land until he saw a group of elves, men and dwarves.

"Elves and dwarves, that's surely weird"he said. He stopped his horse and unmounted it.

He walked towards the group with no intention of harm, but gripping his scythes's handles in his hands incase of a surprise attack.

"I am Robin, and i mean no intension of harm"he said. "I have been banished from land not faraway ,but not near. I come here seeking to join you on any quest you are in."He said bowing to the female elf.
