The Power Inside

Recommended Posts

"Go get her" said Ceil, not taking his eyes off Noland's.

He knew it was an idle request. Noland was fading away fast now and probably wouldn't last the length of time it took Angelina to get to the door, but there was such a thing as hope.

~~~
Bastian and Imari were not the only ones watching the forest. Arthur had left the relative safety of the ancient building was hiding inside a rusted metal shell half full of overgrown weeds. Noland had once told him that the people of the old world had carriages that moved without horses or oxen to pull them. Sitting inside the remains of one made it hard to doubt him.
Long grass the height of a man grew at the far end of the road, the thin green blades sprouting through the hard grey material that made up so much of this place. Something was moving inside of it, in an adjacent way to the wind. Arthur, as still as a block of stone, watched and waited.
Knowing fully that she would have no time to get to Diana in time, her attention turned to Aiedail. She moved and let Noland's head rest in her lap as soon as she had brought the bag closer.
--
Aiedail darted out of the room as fast as her legs could carry her. She quickly found Diana on the roof. The wolf trotted over and then gently took the shelve of Diana's shirt in her mouth. She tugged lightly and then nudged the girl toward the exit. The wolf-fiend look at the others, then glanced meaningfully at the entrance if the building. They needed to hurry!
Diana ran.
She sprinted, legs going as fast as she could get them to go. She tripped down the stairs, landing hard with a horrible jarring her elbows and knees. Yet she scrambled up with a gasp, and sprinted once more. It couldn't be happening, but it was, and her heart was like a metal weight in her chest. Coming into the room, she slid to a stop just in front of Noland, then dropped onto her knees. He was fading fast. Dear Noland, their sweet headmaster who made the bad, but now so wonderful, curry. Leaning forward, she took his nearest hand in both of hers. Then she leaned in close, whispering into his ear. "What we said in the kitchen. I'll do it. For you," she whispered, eyes beginning to tear up. She hoped he would understand. She wanted to fix this world, brig down Jyeh more than ever. "And your curry. It was awesome."
Noland smiled weakly at Diana's words. She didn't need to tell him how awesome his curry was, he knew. But it was nice to hear someone say it. He hoped she would take care of herself. Times were going to be tough ahead.
He closed his eyes, gave a small sigh, and died.
Ceil knew the moment it had happened. He was quite still for a moment, his head down so that no one could see his face, but then he suddenly rose to his feet and strode out of the room. He didn't want t be near anyone right now.
Bastian stood up when he saw Angelina’s fiend appear. It couldn’t be a good sign seeing that the wolf fiend tucking Diana to follow her. He could clearly see that Diana needed to hurry. Bastian looked at Imari since she also saw Aiedail arrive. It wasn’t long when Diana disappeared through the door. Slowly Bastian made his way down as well, stopping at the last step of the staircase where he watched them. Imari had also followed, standing behind him in silence hiding the single tear that was running down her cheek .
Diana stared at him for a moment, then bowed her head. Tears were running down her cheeks, and her shoulders shook with audible sobs. Still she was clutching at his hand as if he might disappear. Although he had, in a way. She could tell that Ceil had left; it was what he would do, and she could hear him. Noland, Noland, had he really died? Her hold on his hand tightened even more if possible, still feeling his warmth. Lettig of a soft wail, she pressed her cheek against his slowly becoming cold hand.
Angelina watched quietly as the grevious scene unfolded. The elder girl looked sadly at the sobbing girl.
"Safe trip." she had whispered to Noland just before he had faded. Aiedail had appeared at her side a few seconds later as Ceil left the room. Aiedail growled softly as if to convey her and Angelina's sorrow. The wolf fiend gently nuzzled Diana as Angelina carefully slid out from under the headmaster. She gracefully set his head on the floor and then she spread a scarf over his face.
Kneeling beside the other student, the healer gently wrapped her arms around the younger girl.
"Diana." she whisper softly.
--
Seraphina followed behind Bastian and watched with a frown deepening by the minute. A year fell down her cheek as she watch him close his eyes for the last time. The girl etched quietly from the shadows.
Ceil made his way up onto the roof. The skies were starting to darken quite quickly as nightfall approached. Ceil paid them no heed though and strode across the roof to the edge where he could look out across the ancient city.
He was beginning to wonder if the gods hated him. They kept taking away everyone he looked up to. First his father, then Ephron...and now Noland. It didn't seem fair.
But life in general wasn't fair. You couldn't rage at the world for screwing you over when it did the same to everyone else. Ceil looked down at the long abandoned buildings and sat down cross legged. What should he do now?
((Okay Drow. You can go ahead now.))
A small globule of bio-luminescent green spit splattered on the floor, mere inches from where Khaine was sat, causing him to turn his head to a sudden soft sizzling sound. The spot where the globule had landed was beginning to simmer and steam as it melted its way through the concrete floor, the sight of this causing Khaine to retreat backwards in alarm. Looking up for the source, four eerie green eyes started back at him, their eyes glowing in the darkness which engulfed the room above him. Several more globules of spit dripped downwards before a blood curdling screech pierced the lack of noise in the room. The creature which had so eagerly been savoring its next meal swooped downwards onto the floor beneath it and began to shake its head in a manner reminiscent to that of boxer dog. Its spit making contact along the walls as it shook furiously.
Khaine now had his back pressed against the wall, the door leading to the staircase on the opposite side, with the bat like creature standing in between them. Khaine began to sidestep against the wall, not once taking his eyes off the creature, which continued to stare back at him as if he were some exotic delicacy. If they were not confined to a small room within a decrepit old building, he would have called out Crixius.. however in the current situation, the earth fiends size and weight would only serve to work against them.
The sound of a pebble being kicked across the floor, broke the deadlock. The creature pounced towards Khaine, who barely managed to evade the attack, albeit not before getting pierced in the leg leg, the bat's claw managing to dig into his flesh as he tried to dive out of the way. The pain was excruciating as the blood began to escape the wound, its crimson color staining the floor with blood. With the creature dazed after its 1 on 1 with the wall, Khaine seized the opportunity to limp towards the exit, the blood leaving a bread trail for anyone or anything that decided to follow.
He began the climb up the stair well, both hands clasped around the rusted hand rail as he used them to support and pull himself up at the same time. Each step on his right leg caused him pain. "Monster!" he shouted, the echoes of his voice reverberating against the walls.
Halfway up, the sound of a wall breaking could be heard. The bat creature had entered the stairway drawn to it by the scent of its prey's blood. It was beginning to hunt its prey as it too began the ascent. its sharpened claws making a clicking sound every time it made contract with the concrete floor, the sound sending shivers up his spine.
It let out another screech, causing Khaine to release his grip on the rusted handrail of the stairs and cover his ears. As he curled up on the steps doing his best to block out the sound, a pool of blood was beginning to form under his leg from where the wound was, the concentrated smell of blood only serving to rile up the creature even more.
Outside and within the building, the screech had awoken several more of those creatures, which had resided on lower levels and within the skeletons of other nearby buildings. Soon, they too would be drawn to the action.
Diana was silent and still, clutching the hand of her headmaster still. He had been the reassuring one, the one who made you feel okay after being shouted at by Ceil. Slowly, she put his wrinkled hand down, putting an excessive amount of effort as to making sure his fingers were straight and his hand looked alright. She ignored Angelina, unable to say or do anything. Yet she could not even be left to grieve. She could hear Khaine's yell, the sound of something climbing up the walls. An unreasonable, out of character amount of rage built up in her chest, and she rose up. Her lips were drawn back slightly, a glint of teeth between them and her nose wrinkled in an expression of pure fury. "I'm going to bloody KILL THAT THING! It's going to wish it hadn't been born," she muttered to herself, soft in the beginning and end, loud in the middle. Hand going to her chest, she hissed, "Vann." The blue mist became that of Rain, ears pinned back. The one stalked out with furious footsteps, the other with a semi-rear and a canter out of the room, looking much like a hell horse.
((Dat mad Diana.))
Xaphan's ears perked up as he heard a monsters screech reverberate through the tree's, his head instinctively turned towards the direction they had flown from.
"Kaz.." he muttered, not moving his head. "I sense something bad coming from the direction the others are at.."
Kaz did not flinch, nor show any indication that he had heard Xaphan or the screech. He merely laid there in the open, his hands stretched out wide and the remnants of his brothers crystal reflecting the rays of the sun onto the nearby tree. A stream of tears could be seen rolling down his face as he struggled to take in his brothers death.
"What the?"
Ceil turned around when he heard the cry of a monster. Couldn't he have five bloody minutes without something going wrong? Growling he climbed to his feet and went back towards the stairs leading to the floor below. With all that noise other monsters would be alerted to their presence, and so would other things.
Ran came down the stairs ahead of her Summoner, ears pinned back against her skull. Diana's face was set grimly as she hissed, "Kill it. Kill it slowly, make it suffer." This was such disrespect for the death of Noland; it deserved pain. Her eyes darted to Khaine, but she didn't really register the fact he was there. Water streamed out from Rain's horn, whipping toward the monster viciously I'm the aim of making several bloody lashes across it'd back, then coiling to go around its wing, tugging hard.
Imari was still standing behind Bastian crying in the shadows when the screech quickly brought her back to reality. She watched as Diana went into some rage, summoning her fiend and storming of to the commotion.
“What is she doing?” she asked out loud running after the girl.
When Imari came to the stairs she noticed a creature that she knew all too well. She had encountered one of them when she found out she was a summoner. She also knew where there was one there were more.
“Diana! Be careful!” Imari shouted as she ran towards Khaine. The monster could easily fall on him or even one bit kill him.
~~
Bastian was behind his cousin all the way and was starting to regret slightly that he had such a large fiend. When Imari went to help one of the other students Bastian went to help Diana.
“Diana get back!” He called out. Her actions were rash and she was fueled by anger. That’s not the best way at all, which usually means you don’t think straight when fighting. He knew all too well the mistakes that could happen if a person is in such a state.
The bat like creature stopped momentarily, its focused gaze shifting off the injured Khaine towards the new arrival. Staring at Rain and Diana, the creatures spit began to drip out of its maw, pooling at the base of the steps it was standing on and causing the cement to sizzle as it came into contact with the acidic saliva.
Seeing the water attack didn't faze the bat like creature, its darkness affinity providing it with immunity to water based assaults. With the knowledge that affinity wise it had the advantage, it began to press on, continuing its climb up the staircase, closing the distance between itself and its prey. However it soon stopped again, sensing the presence of two others. More of its poisonous spit began to drip out of its maw as more and more prey began to show up in it's domain. With easy prey ripe for the picking, it released a high pitch howl, signalling to its brethren who had began to make their way here that food was plenty.
Opening its maw, an opaque green mist began to billow out, a poisonous gas was beginning to fill the narrow corridor, the poison contained in the gas, the same as what caused its spit to be acidic.
The rusted handlebars began to melt as the gas spread.
Outside, several screeches could be heard as a group of Six more of these creatures approached from the North and another four from the west. Inside the building several more where making their way up. Some climbing the side of the building and others through other means.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Khaine had never seen Diana like this before, her persona the complete opposite to what he had come to expect from her. For a moment, he wasn't sure whether the bat like creature was a bigger threat then Diana was. The ferocity in her attack, a clear indicator of her current state.

"D.. D.. Diana..?" he Stuttered, oblivious to Nolands death; the reason for her current behavior. "I.. is tha..GAAAAAH" he covered his ears and closed his eyes as the creatures blood curdling howl echoed against the walls. As he closed his eyes, he saw the blurred image of Imari and one of the military men behind Diana.

Even with his ears covered, he could still hear the torturous sound. He doubted any of the others would be able to hear him scream at that moment.

((Drow? Did you say the bat was a darkness element? If so it would be immune to Rain's water attacks.))

Damn, the bloody thing was a darkness element. And its saliva was acidic. When it released green gas, everything began disintegrating. If only Rain could get in close; her horn would make quick work of the monster. Hand whipping out to the rusted staircase, she tugged hard on a railing. It came away easily. Reaching back with her arm, she threw it at the creature. Then, that noise. Yelling, she did not cover her ears. There were more coming in. With the staircase partially melted... Hrm. Maybe it would swing toward the wall and hit them down. Getting the idea, Rain slung her shoulder against the metal, head bent down, muscles straining as she pushed against it, then gave it an almighty shove. Diana was angry, so angry...

((Just a heads up, feel free to Roleplay the other bats that are approaching))

The bat Creature raised one of its wings up to shield itself from the falling wall, its wing managing to absorb most of the impact. With a ferocious screech it pushed back against it with its wing, whilst releasing more of the gas against the wall.

Slowly a hole was beginning to form in the center from where the majority of the gas was being concentrated on.

Ceil had barely made it to the top of the stairs when a rustling in the wind caught his attention. He ran back to the side of the roof and saw an entire colony of Batsids* heading straight for them. They were pouring in droves out of the ruined remains of the other buildings and were chattering loudly.

"Dammit" he growled raising a hand to his chest. "Verto."

Seth exploded out of Ceil in a cloud of darkness, his large black wings spreaded protectively over his Summoner. While Seth would be immune to the Batsids magic, they would be immune to his in turn. However, Ceil could not allow them to storm the building where his students were hiding. Seth was too large to be able to fight inside, that meant he had to try and focus their attention elsewhere, the skies.

Seth leapt off the roof and flung himself into the very heart of the approaching mass. The monsters instantly turned on this fresh target and swarmed around him. They landed on his slick hide, usng their sharp claws to gain purchase, and bit and scratched and tore. Seth screamed in fury and pain and lashed out at those he could reach. His jaws were just large enough and strong enough to bit through the Batsids, either severing their limbs, heads or just plain slicing them in two.

However the weight of his attackers was too great for Seth to manage and he was forced to land on an adjoining rooftop. Ceil limped his way over to the door leading down and wrenched it open. He could hear sounds of combat further down, but he could not go and investigate without moving too far from Seth. Trying to ignore the bloody wounds that were appearing over his body he called down.

"What the hell is going on down there?"

((*Didn't know if you had already named them, so I just threw this in))

“Khaine!! Khaine!! Snap out of it.” Imari shouted as she punched him on the shoulder. “Get your arm around me and get moving.” Imari was slightly annoyed by the fact that Diana kept attacking the monster which made it release more and more of the green gas.

“Bastian get her out of there.”

Bastian looked at Imari knowing all too well if they stayed there they themselves might even fall through the floor. He grabbed Diana around the waist and started dragging her away from the monster. If they could go outside they would have a better chance on fighting them. As Bastian tried to pull Diana away he swore he could hear someone calling to them but the monster made to much noise which caused him to ignore it for now.

Khaine felt a punch on his shoulder, causing him to open his eyes to the sight of Imari shouting in his face. After a few seconds of trying to understand what she was shouting, he finally swung his arm around her.

He clenched his teeth as every movement caused his leg to throb in pain. The bottom half of his right leg almost completely colored red with his blood.
