Book Title: Marley & Me

Author: John Grogan

Rating: 5/5

Review: This is one of the most hilarious books I have ever read. I pulled it out of the bag on the way home from the bookstore, and didn't put it down for more than five minutes until I had finished the whole thing. A funny and sweet book, it gives you a lot more than the movie does.

Book Title: The Sun Also Rises

Author: Ernest Hemingway

Rating: 2/5

Review: Terrible. This book was only 250 pages and took me a while to finish it, only finally getting through the last part of it today. It's a book that's very easy to put down because you want to put it down and never look at it ever again. You might even want to burn it. Basically you have a bunch of immature 30-somethings who spend their time in bars and coffees shops drinking and eating and talking. And they also go to different countries whenever it fancies them, despite them being broke and not really having jobs. They have unfulfilling lives with no hopes or dreams, and they aren't even likable so you have no reason to read the book because the characters don't do anything interesting and you certainly don't care about them.

Hemingway's writing style can also get on your nerves. It's like a bunch of jot notes that feel repetitive enough that you stop paying attention. And the characters are constantly talking, but it doesn't matter what they say because they are drunk all the time. Reading 200 pages worth of drunken dialogue can be draining, especially since half of the time you aren't even really sure who is talking.

Review: Remarkably interesting and mind-numbingly boring at the same time. While many of the ideas raised in it were certainly fascinating and worth thinking about, I was actually counting down the number of pages left until I could move on to the next book.

Book Title: The Great Gatsby

Rating: 5/5

Review: I enjoyed this book quite a bit right from the first page. Great story, and I adore the writing style. It's possible that since I was fresh from reading The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway that this book gets such a great rating, since the other book was so terrible and I couldn't help but compare the two.

Review: A very quick read. Meh. Wasn't the worse thing I ever read and I will probably continue the series, since my library has it anyway. But I don't think this is a book I will reread, at least not for a while.
