They also say jumping around might help.

You'll have to move super fast then, and not be in a defence or survival mission. I think the Stalker shows up within the first few minutes of a mission.

 

Also, there is no point in trying to run away once he has spawned. He just teleports his target back to him.

slam attack also helps

since easy to "land" and you can dodge away again to do the same

 

They other guys said you need to move around a lot more.

 

also, if you are not confident in your current gear, always keep an OP gun/blade spare

All of my gear is pretty much from random drops . I prefer melee because I can't aim for toffee.

The very first time I saw him I had no idea what was going on. There was only panic. Lots of panic. I kept trying to get away but somehow ended up back in the room with him (didn't know about his little trick back then).

If it is a mission where you can handle yourself and have a very low chance of death, it's not a big thing if he kills you. It's only in missions where every spawn counts that he becomes a real concern.

Go and beat up the Corpus until one of them drops a Thief's Wit. They are pretty common so you might already have one.

It highlights all lootable containers (not lockers though) on your mini-map.

Strangely, I don't loot as much these days. I open containers if I find them, but tend to focus more on the killing.
