View Lineage in Scroll page

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if this was already suggested, I didn't find another trade with this suggest.

I had this idea because when I have to check many lineages on my scroll or even just to view a specific one I have to click on "Action" near the dragon image on my scroll and than click on "Lineage". This is simple, but I have to open a new page to visualize the lineage, otherwise when I want to go back I have to reload a lot of pages and is very slow.

So, since adults don't need Views, Unique Views and Click, what about this new scroll visualization? The stats of your dragons wouldn't be lost, you can see them on its page.

It could be a lot more fast to see the lineage you want and breed the dragon, too. This is very usefull if you have to check many lineages and you don't want to find every time the last dragon you've visualized in your scroll with 500+ dragons xd.png

I don't know what to do with frozen Hatchlings, do they really need the "lineage" button? Anyway they don't need the statistics either...

A non-frozen one would still have the normal view, with all statistics, because it is growing.

Originally I tought that only the "Lineage" button should be add near the Actions, but there was a big space left, so I add also the "Breed" button, that is the most used action on a dragon.

It would be optionable, you can choose to see your scroll one way or the other by your Account Settings.

actually, I'd like there to be a little more java-script interaction on the actions button.

hover over it -> get a menu that pops up/pulldown/whatever that allows you to do everything without reloading an entire page.

I personally would find this extraordinarily useful for my adults! It is pretty important that we're able to see the stats for the eggs and hatchies, of course, so I'm glad you pointed that out.

@whitebaron: I'm a fan of the javascript idea, too. At this point it would probably have to be a turn-off-able feature for people with grouchy computers that need the site to stay as simple as possible.

As someone who's gone through 200 dragon in the last week checking their lineages, this would be VERY helpful!! Making it optional means it won't inconvenience anyone who likes the normal view, which is good. I agree that seeing adult/frozen-hatchie view-stats just isn't a priority and doesn't really need to be on the main scroll page.

I do not think that I'd need this much anymore since I cleaned up my scroll recently. I have a google document for all my breeding projects now therefore I do not have to check the lineages of every dragon before breeding => and I mostly collect CB dragons. I know what's on my scroll.

There are people who try to raise adults with 0 clicks and people who freeze pretty lineages from the AP - I'd say the stats and lineages for frozen hatchlings matter to them, at least. So good for suggesting it to be optional.

I will give this warning now: one of my biggest modding pet peeves is when users bring drama from another thread into a different thread. Do. Not. Do. That.

What I think would be most useful is if the corresponding options showed up under filters that make sense. Ie, the breed action and lineage view shows up if you select dragons "available to breed"; whatever BSA a dragon had would show up if you select dragons "available for BSA"; and the name option would show up if you chose "unnamed hatchlings/adults". o3o

Maybe it could just be an extra field. Tale of Dragons shows which dragons are lineaged and which are CB. For DC, I'd like it for the Lineage link to appear for the lineaged dragons with a link to their lineage page. It'd prevent many accidents--it'd prevent most accidents if the link also showed on the breed page; opening a new tab with the lineage of the dragon you're planning to breed to.

OKEY. I do not know what you mean with "drama" (I dislike that word because people seem to use it for - in my eyes - every little thing these days) but I promise to give my best to become a better internet person. (^3^)

(this is a friendly reply & no battle call)

I am not sure I understand. Do you mean filters next to every dragon or filters on the top?

No, thanks. I don't want extra clickable stuff in that line.

I use centre clicking to open lineages and actions.

I mean that if you used the filters that already exist on the scroll, then you would see the extra links as exampled by the pic in the OP. =3

This would make the feature rather useless to me. If I wanted to see the lineage-link on my scroll I'd have to filter "available to breed"? But... what about all those dragons that *aren't* available to breed but I'm still interested in a convinient way to see their lineages?

This turns the feature into an unneeded complication. I don't filter my dragons, ever, except when naming. So I'd have to use a feature that I *never* use and is rather clunky and hard to work with (imo) in order to use *this* feature? No thanks.

I think the OP's simple suggestion of having an optional "show lineage/breed links on scroll" would be the best way.

I would love to see the lineage link as an added field. I would use it extensively for breeding, an aid in organizing my scroll, and checking lineages without having to use the view page. smile.gif

I would not want to lose any of the fields we currently have, since I monitor all my growing dragons from the scroll, avoiding their view pages unless they are fogged.

I would prefer to see it done without without needing to have Javascript on. If it works exactly like the Actions link, that would be perfect for my use.

Perhaps another filter for "view lineage" (I think something like that may be one of the suggestions in the filter thread actually).

If it doesn't stretch the scroll or the scroll is made bigger, that's great, but otherwise, I can see myself wanting this one and off and filters would be easier for me than turning it on and off in account settings. o3o

(I use filters all the time, though. They're so handy!)

I completely forgot about these filters at the top because I do not use them at all. Ahahaha. I know roughly on which pages which dragons are so I usually just scroll to get to them for breeding, I use TAoND's action trackers for my Influence needs and for backing up the correct amount of Vampires.

Well, as I said before, I found my own solution for "getting always the right dragon to do what I need it to do" so I am not sure I'd really need it & I have no problems with clicking. But I do not have anything against it, if it's more convenient for other people why not?

The only thing which I would not like - and I forgot to mention it before - is javascript interaction on any important buttons.

If you don't want to have javascript - turn it off. If done properly, jquery (which TJ uses for e.g. sorting) can be added on top to existing pages without people who don't use javascript ever noticing.

all it would have to do would be to link to the corresponding links /lineage, /breed /action etc instead of first to the view page and from then on further, or first to the actions page, and from then on further.

This could be interesting, but java-script could give problems to some computers if they are not updated, I think that could bring some trouble in scroll visualization.

You woldn't lose any important fields dragongrrl because growing hatchies and eggs would still shown their own stats. Only Adults (and maybe) frozen hatchies that don't need more views or clicks would have a different scroll visualization smile.gif

I understand your point of view, I use filters, too! (A lot) xd.png

But, like Sci said, what about dragons not avaliable for breeding? Also when I click on a dragon lineage the sorting by filter disappear and I have to use the filter again.

There would be another way to combine mine and yours idea: Adding one more filter that allows you to see the scroll in the way I've suggest before. AND, to prevent that this sorting would disappear if you click on a lineage link it would remain until you would click again on this filter at the top of the scroll.

ooooh goodie. I'd probably have it off, maybe. o3o

Not that my computer has a problem with it, or that I personally do, but sometimes I just wish sites didn't practically completely rely on it. XD

YES, me too. There is no REAL need for it 90% of the time.

I agree with that. I dislike Javascript, as it really is a pain when it goes funky, and it does go funky on an irregular basis.

I like this idea and would use it as a primary default because like.... I have strongly supported getting rid of views and other info that I don't need on my adults and replacing it with something I do more regularly use.

And I like that its an option because I know there are people who don't use lineage and breed links nearly as much as I do. I'm sure there is a reason they may want to see that info.

It saves me a few clicks. And makes my tab page management easier because I normally always have more than several tabs open with different screens all filled with different pages from this site.

If we could also add "CB" on this new visualisation it would be even better.

example on Damna, which is a CB golden Wyvern:

I would love this, it would be so much easier when I want to breed my dragons.

Actually... this might be helpful for CBs too, because as it is, when I want to trade a CB dragon, I am not sure how to get to its lineage view. As such it makes it hard to avoid spam when I am hoping to trade such a dragon. :/

In a new tab, type this manually:

dragcave.net/lineage/YourDragonCode

so you will get this:

http://dragcave.net/lineage/Vge2I

Simple, though might be a bit irritating when checking dozens of dragons at time. Especially on mobile devices...

So still a yes from me d: However I don't think featuring breeding links makes sense.

To get a CB lineage link it's easy. Just type in http:// dragcave.net /lineage/dragon code here. So you just replace the 'view' with 'lineage'.
