The nice thing about finding them in the AP is that they actually show up upside down, so you can spot them.  They're gone in the blink of an eye, of course!  But I've got a few in the AP in years past.

No, it's RNG-based. There's no other player on the other end (after all, what would happen if there were an odd number of players? Or if no one else was playing right when you are?) You can tell because the result is always instant (which wouldn't be the case if it was waiting for another human's action on the other end.) So it's totally fine to blame away.

ETA: Dang, I'm sorry that happened @Scarlet_claw did you put them into hatcheries yourself, or was it view bombed? Eggs can still die when fogged. Fogged eggs only stop receiving views. it doesn't keep them from dying if they're already too sick. 

I never put fresh eggs into hatcheries for the first 24 hours, and will sometimes fog them. This happened to me back when the Cavern Lurkers were first released. I didn't have internet at home at the time and when I went back to the library the next day all 5 of my eggs were dead. I really don't see the point in view bombing someone else's scroll. It's petty and shallow, and only shows how weak and fragile their own ego and self esteem is. Just because a person can't get something doesn't mean they need to ruin it for others.

Well, I was a dum-dum and posted It in an earlier post showing I was successful, AND put it in a hatchery. I thought I fogged it in time... Never knew that they still died when fogged...

But the April Fool's Mints, whether upside down or normal, are still a bit special because they have "Cave" as their biome. I believe the only other Cave Biome dragons you can get now are the ones that come from the holiday biomes during an event. It doesn't make a big difference (except maybe for Copper breeding), but some people like having something unique like that.
