@Lagie

How many people are vaccinated ion your place by now? Do you finally get sufficient amounts of the vaccine?

In Germany we have the vaccine available, but sadly people don't realise how lucky they are and don't take up the offer in sufficient numbers. Currently the country wide vaccination rate is 66.7% who got at least one jab and 62.4% who are fully vaccinated.

If you look at this chart you can see the vaccination speed (the green line shows the average) went continuously down:

---------------

As of today, Wednesday, September 15, 08:00 GMT+2, my home town (population 211 000) has 415 (+16) active cases, while 11 477 (+13)  people are considered to have recovered. 377 (+-0) persons sadly died. 925 persons are currently quarantined. All in all there have been 12 269 (+29) people who suffered from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of newly infected people per 100 000 citizens in the last 7 days is 109.8 (-4.7)  / Incidence for NRW: 94.6 (-4.8).

Currently 33 (+3) persons are treated in hospital, with 7 (+1) of them in intensive care, 2 (+-0) of them needing artificial respiration.

There have been 140 652 (1st jab, 66.7%) and 125 392  (2nd jab, 59.4%) vaccinations so far.

Barely 13%. And yes, we do finally have enough doses but we also have a lot of Covidiots who refuse to get vaccinated. And with an election on Thursday, cases are bound to spike again in two weeks.

75 new cases Saturay, 60 of those on my island (positivity rate 24.6%) for a new total of 19,516 cases. Nine additional deaths take that total to 463. :(

186 people (down 7) in hospital, 24 (up 2) of those in the ICU.

86 new cases Sunday, 70 of those on my island (positivity rate 70.5%) for a new total of 19,602 cases. No additional deaths.

187 people (up 1) in hospital, 23 (up 1) of those in the ICU.

89 new cases Monday, 78 of those on my island (positivity rate 20.3%) for a new total of 19,691 cases. Four additional deaths take that total to 467. :(

182 people (down 5) in hospital, 21 (down 1) of those in the ICU.

We also had another medical doctor die. That makes at least four so far. People keep suggesting additional hospital space but who would you get to staff it? The hospitals are already stressed and short-staffed.

13% vaccinated is a real shame if you have sufficient vaccine available! I find the 62% we have in Germany at the moment already really embarrassing.  IMO there is no reason whatsoever to be more afraid of the vaccine than of the virus!

Exactly. And when you consider it prevents you from dying... *rolls eyes at the Covidiots*

105 new cases Tuesday, 96 of those on my island (positivity rate 15.6%) for a new total of 19,796 cases. Two additional deaths take that total to 469. :(

@Lagie

At least in your place the positivity rate goes down a bit compared to the numbers you posted several weeks ago. This should mean that there are a bit fewer infected people running around. Here the positive quote is continuously on the rise again:

Last week it was 8.66% here!

And right now I really wonder about the mental capacity of our politicians. At the moment, kids under 12 years of age can't be vaccinated (the studies for the safety of the vaccine for younger kids are still running), and the 7-day incidence per 100 000 persons for kids 0-14 (142.9) is double that of the whole population average (77.9):

To curb the virus spread and put more pressure on unvaccinated people, there are intentions that now only those that are vaccinated or recovered can visit pubs, restaurants or events where then people wouldn't have to adhere to social distancing or wearing masks (there are currently heavy discussions whether one should allow people who tested negative, too).

But now the politicians carved in to the pressure from the public (hey, we have federal elections in ten days!) and want to allow kids under 12 without any testing, too! Yes, the kids can't be vaccinated right now, but that doesn't mean they can't be infected or spread the virus, too!

The first act of our new Prime Minister was to roll the curfew start from 9 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. I'm sure he'll do away with the rest of the Covid measures as soon as he possibly can. :rolleyes: And three of the new cases are on the island he represents... Can you say Covidiot?

Oh, you still have a curfew? We haven't had a curfew for months, now,and the measures here are still rather moderate. The stuff we have to adhere to is the "AHA rule" (German acronym that implies "wear a mask, wash your hands, keep you distance"), plus people who want to go to certain restaurants, events and so need to follow the "3G rule" (people need to be vaccinated, recovered or tested - in German: "geimpft, genesen, getestet")  or in higher incidence areas the "2G rule" (only for people who are vaccinated or recovered).

Unfortunately short staffing is becoming the norm. COVID-19 sucks a lot of staff in because of how much more difficult it is to work in such isolated areas, and the strain of it is causing healthcare staff to leave permanently. Add in those who refuse to work in such circumstances, those who are off sick with stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD from the pandemic, then add in those with COVID-19 or Long Covid... On top of that we already had a staff shortage before the pandemic and the loss of existing and potential staff due to Brexit, and suddenly it's no wonder we're at this point.

Tomorrow will be two weeks since the badly-managed very-crowded advanced polls so we'll see if the numbers stay high or rise more.

That's so sad to read! I hope you will be able to manage somehow anyway. *careful virtual hugs*

@Lagie

I hope you won't get additional cases due to the polls!  The German election proper is due this Sunday, but it is expected that about 60% of the voters will (have) use(d) postal votes this time.

For some reason our positive quote is going down since two weeks, but no one really knows why as there haven't been any extra measures, and the vaccination rate hasn't properly risen much either.

By now 67.5% of the German population had one jab and 63.6% are fully vaccinated, but this is still not enough to reach "herd immunity".

Nice! We're still at about 13% fully vaccinated.

111 new cases Wednesday, 94 of those on my island (positivity rate 33.7%) for a new total of 20,491 cases (positivity way up...). Ten (10) additional deaths takes that total to 522. :(

155 people (no change) in hospital, 20 (down 4) of those in the ICU.

And, having read today's 48 pages of obits and extra 14 page section, at least three of the entries were for husband and wife who both died from it within days of each other, and one mother and son. :(

So, my mom was scheduled to get her 3rd vaccine dose today (immunocompromised), and for some reason we got notification that the appt had been cancelled. Called the pharmacy and I was literally told 'we don't know why they get cancelled, you just have to reschedule, but sometimes that will get cancelled too' like what?? Really?

I'm wondering if it was some automatic thing, because the CDC is now officially recommending booster shots to more of the population at least 6 months after the initial doses, so maybe the computer system saw it hasn't been 6 months since mom's primary doses and just automatically cancelled? But I'm looking into it and I don't see anything that says the 3rd-dose recommendation for immunocompromised individuals has changed at all because of the new booster recommendations.

Goodness @Lagie those numbers are sad!

My mom got her 3rd vaccine dose yesterday, whew! I went with her to help her into the building and wait with her, no issues and no noticeable side effects. Definitely relieved to have that done.

Yesterday 55 new cases and 2 new deaths were reported here, with 36 people hospitalized.

Very. And still at just over 13% vaccinated (and not for lack of vaccines).

Glad your mom had her third.

130 new cases Tuesday, 89 of those on my island (positivity rate 21.4%) for a new total of 21,115 cases. Two additional deaths take that total to 533. :(

The obits again today have the usual 48 page section, along with 14 regular newspaper-sized pages. There are more and more obits being published within the pages of the main section throughout the week. That is a newer development. Obits used to be only Thursdays.

Our ICU numbers have halved since I've been on leave. Sadly not because of recovery.

Only around 1,100 positive tests in the last week, but we have two large universities in the city so it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next four weeks as lectures begin.

Here the restrictions are even more loosened, which is probably not the brightest idea when the Winter is Coming and less and less people feel inclined to get their vaccination (plus the government closed down the Covid vaccination centres, so that people now have to go to their GPs to get vaccinated). The RKI already warned about the fourth wave, but the politicians fear that the vocal and very aggressive anti-vaxxer and anti-lockdown minority might cause trouble otherwise.

If they wouldn't endanger other people who might lack hospital beds for stuff like heart attacks, strokes, accidents etc and stress out the nurses and doctors who have to treat them even if they caused their illness by wanton neglicence, I would say just let them get infected and deal with Covid on their own, but fortunately the doctors and nurses are obviously better people than I am (and not as vindictive). But frankly, I would let the anti-vaxxers pay for their treatments out of their own pockets and not cover this by the health insurances if they don't have a good (that is, medical) reason not to get inoculated!
