Nearly 550 now! Imagine if I had set up my second row correctly...

alas, I've fallen.

This has been going since wednesday I think? The two green dragons who had no access to healing have fallen (who would have guessed), but everything else seems to be working well.

Update!

Broke the 300, but I have lost my ice and two more greens. Without the ice not sure how much longer I'll last.

I barely got past the 400 mark, but didn't last much longer after. Gonna try that wall of white I've been seeing for the kick of it.

Going for another sophrosyne build because the last one lost a vine in the same place, after which it would just be a matter of time. If the bolt gets hit at any time I'll probably sacrifice a couple vines for a partner bolt.

made it all the way to 1003! first casualty was round 22 for a random vampire I threw in, didn't have another casualty until round 970.

the basic strategy is to have both sides set up the same way the left side is but mirrored, throw out whatever dragons you have points left for on the front row, and pray to RNGesus for good GoN positioning.

gonna be setting it up again with a couple tweaks! credit to wym for coming up with this.

Made it overnight!  Finally broke 300!  No losses yet!  Congratulations to all you survivors.  I'm so impressed!

I know the Magma/White wall works well, but I'm hoping to engineer an alternative solution.  So cool to see 4 or 5 other creative and viable options, here!

NOOOO!  They chomped my Magma!  And after that, my exposed Vine!  And now I realize, there was NO reason to dropy side Magmas back a square!

Probably going to just start over, now that my flank is weakened... it's only a matter of time.

On the 26th I started a defense that is almost identical to @Fjord's from 2019 and it's still standing strong.

(I only moved the Sophrosyne and Aeon 1 square out)

The White Magma Wall is mighty!

Gonna see if it holds for the remaining 10 days of the event, like an eternal stalemate.

Hm... just for kicks, and to see how the Magi define "nearby" -- let's see what happens without Thunders or Ices, only burninating and "go back to start"!

Wow, some excellent long-standing keeps! Good work against the zombies, folks! :D

I got bored with my last build; it was breached and I decided to build something inspired by Shadowdrake (and anyone else who did these Sophrosyne-based builds).

Also, regarding Aeons, since their description states "Gives your dragons insight into the future, allowing them to attack before zombies," maybe there is no action text during the rounds.

I'm trying a Sophrosyne/Bolts/Purples build and an Aeon (hope it helps). It probably won't last as long as some of the builds I've seen people post; I'm mostly trying fun builds at this point. I wish I could have used more Purples. :iraptor:

Build underneath spoiler.

ETA: Zombies are dealing damage to my Bolts, so this build won't last as long as I hoped it would without healers. I may regroup.

Giving this build another shot. I assembled the second row correctly, and put a Dark Green Vampire in place of the Green to the right.

My record with the defective build is 558.

After breaking 1000 with the Magma/White wall I got bored and decided to start over. This time I'm trying a more clustered defence with a wider variety of towers.

EDIT: This setup only lasted 163 rounds.

What was defective about the original 2nd row?  Did it need 4 White, 3 Ice?

I had messed up and put two White Dragons in adjacent tiles, which took away room for an additional Ice Dragon.

Basically, I had done I-W-I-W-W-I-W rather than I-W-I-W-I-W-I.

I have restarted my build after ten rounds, it now looks like this:

The Dark Green is now a Vampire. Because why not!

A lot of it's down to luck as well, with when/where your GoNs pop in. Managed to get into the 800s with my last set up.

I'm giving it a go switching the Ice and White alternation to see if more healing will keep my front line up. Also plunked in a Purple to reduce the heal cooldown, wish I had enough points for one on the other side too 😅

I’m approaching round 300 for the first time, luckily without losing any of my dragons (so far anyways). The Purples have helped out a ton, and a GoN is summoned often enough that my other dragons aren’t entirely overwhelmed at times.

I'm experimenting with this build of Pinks, Vines, Purples, Whites, with a Sophrosyne and Aeon.

The Pinks are kind of squishy and short-ranged. Even with the Aeon, they often get attacked before their damage takes effect.

ETA: Guys! Check this out. This is the first time I recall seeing text for an Aeon:

my record is 273 turns, based on a line of magmas with whites behind, a sophrosyne, and some of whatever's left over.

Currently i'm trying a line of greens, then magmas, then bolts.

Awesome!  So the next turn, did your dragons get to attack any zombies before they attacked?

What do the Pinks DO, exactly?  What is "charm" -- is it the same as stun or freeze?  Do they deal offensive damage?

Remarkably, the reinforced Magi/Magma wall has been holding its own!  However, I suspect it will prove vulnerable once the zombies start dealing more hit points of damage.

Turns out I jinxed myself since one of my Magmas got chomped on round 302. I tried having a complete Magma/White wall previously, but lost three of them before reaching round 200. Perhaps I simply had bad luck, cause I’ve seen others have reached higher levels with the exact same layout way before they lost a single dragon. I’m not sure if I want to start over again just yet, as my dragons are still going strong despite the loss of a Magma, but I’m interested in seeing if adding a wall of Purples in the back would help far more than having two Thunders.

Added some extra info and a wikia link to the OP. Also, someone did testing with an aeon and they are, as suspected, almost entirely useless. Example: this was a wall of pure aeons and also the round they first precogged. Unless your strategy allows zombies to go straight for the tower, they don't do much.

Kelkelen,

At first I theorized that charm was similar to stun or freeze and perhaps it confused the zombies. Now my theory is that charm is maybe like putting a hex on the zombies so that they take damage in the turn that the Pinks are resting. It works, and they do take damage; the main issues are the Pinks are squishy, plus their reach is two tiles -- although it is a two-tile "radius," which I hope means in any direction? (I'm not sure.) The good news is they do offensive damage.

Regarding the Aeons, I am including a bunch of screenshots so you can view some turns in a row. It's difficult to know which Pinks and which Vines in the line are resting and which are attacking. I wish the text was more clear, but I guess there isn't a better way to do it.

Shadowdrake, I wonder if it makes sense to put only Aeons on the battlefield if they don't have attack skills? Their skill is to (word in parentheses is my interpretation) "Gives your (other) dragons insight into the future, allowing them to attack before zombies." It doesn't say the Aeons have to be adjacent to them for it to work, which is why I assume that one Aeon might help all of the dragons on the battlefield, although I don't know for sure.

Here are some rounds with the Aeon text mentioned: Putting all of these under spoiler tags because they are lengthy.
