Posted November 12, 2014 It was a nine foot Humanoid Machine with many weapons and two blue faintly glowing eyes. The Machine had a code number on it’s chest that read “215 Slayer”. The weapons it carried were,a Straight Edge Katana on it’s back, a assault rifle crossing the Katana on it’s back and a double barreled wrist cannon for both arms. Posted November 17, 2014 - W. Haug, Vernacular literary theory in the Middle Ages: the German tradition, 800-1300, in its European context, transl. [from the German] by J. M. Catling (Cambridge: CUP, 1997), ch. 1+2, pp. 7-45. J. Ziolkowski, ‘Towards a history of medieval Latin literature’, in: F. A. C. Mantello and A. G. Rigg (eds), Medieval Latin. An introduction and bibliographical guide (Washington D.C.: Catholic University of America Press, 1996), pp. 505-536. This class is about the historical background of medieval literature and on the interrelationships between Latin, the main intellectual language, and the vernaculars. Haug’s book is a famous study on medieval literary theory. Its first chapter describes how the medieval ideas on texts were determined by a mix of classical and Christian opinions and gives summaries of these opinions. The second discusses the problematical relationship between Latin and the beginnings of the vernacular as a written language. Ziolkowski describes the role of Latin in medieval society and sketches an outline of a literary history of the works in that language. This study is part of a manual for the study of medieval Latin and at times it is determined by its context. Share this post Link to post
