20-Week Breeding Challenge: 2024 -- The Challenge has begun!

Welcome to the 20-Week Breeding Challenge: 2024 edition!

This will be our 5th year, I believe, although last year saw an abbreviated version. But we are back with a full 20 weeks this year! I know some people have participated in the past and have been eagerly awaiting this year's event. For those of you who are not familiar with the Challenge, keep reading!

 

What is the Challenge, you ask? 

Starting Sunday, May 5, 2024, we will be competing to see who can create the longest lineage (with a cohesive pattern) in a 20-week time period.  The challenge will end on September 21, 2024.

 

Why 20 weeks?

It seems a good length of time to build a fairly long lineage while still being able to keep people interested and engaged.

It allows us to finish before the holiday breeding madness begins.

It's a nice round number!

 

Why should you participate in the challenge? 

Good Question!

First of all because it is FUN!

Also – PRIZES! Every member who joins this project, will be offering a prize (sort of like a poker pot) at the end of this project. The plan is for everyone who finishes the challenge to win a prize. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will get to pick their prizes from the pot first. The rest of the prizes will be randomly distributed to the remaining finishers.

 

Rules (because we do need rules!):

• All lineages must be some form of stair or spiral format. Examples: Stair, Single Step Spiral, Double Step Spiral, and so on.

• One of the base starting dragons MUST have a "Stolen on" date of May 5, 2024 or later. The other dragon (its mate) may be a previously existing CB dragon. The last dragon in your line must have a “Laid on” date of September 21, 2024 or earlier in order to be counted.

• You must create a public group for all dragons produced/used in the project.

• All dragons in the final lineage must be on your scroll and in your group at the end of the Challenge.

• Inbreeding will be allowed.

• At the end of the challenge each player will be asked to contribute one prize. It can be an offspring of your challenge lineage, or anything else you choose.

Goal: A different female every time, but the same male. Upward staircase with Delta (Small)s and Kyanite Pygmies (see below for concept).

May end up playing around with the Delta's size change (ex. alternating big and small), but not currently planning to. Since inbreeding is allowed, I wanted to play around with lines I wouldn't otherwise make. I'm hoping that, since Deltas are so easy to get and Kyanites are the highest priced pygmy in the market, I won't have to worry about wrong breed eggs .-.

Goal (Plan for your lineage): kinda like future Alzirr or Trystan.  Each male and female spoke of the spiral will 'match' and this time i'll be using Antareans, Elux Lucis, Nebulas, and Sonatas (blue and silver*).  Offspring is offspring - it's the 'pairs of parents' in the spiral.

 

*anyone know when the DC eclipse is?

(the 'DC Calendar Tools' link in my sig suggests the end of May. what do we think?)

A spiral lineage with pygmies. Breeds bred on the outside of the spiral will be a rainbow of colors (hopefully).

By my count, it should be an eclipse in 24 days. That would put it at April 26th.

 

This is, of course, if I can count and add properly.

 

I have been corrected elsewhere- looks like Trystan was right the first time and the expected Eclipse day is May 28th!

EDIT/UPDATE: More specifically, I am now thinking with Valentine's dragon mates only, and possibly breeding them from the earliest released Valentine dragon to the latest, and then repeating if time (and luck) allows.
