Hetalia: War, Peace, or Randomness?

Czech hadn't really been expecting the kisses on his cheeks. Cocking an eyebrow, he shut his door and followed his guests with his eyes. He figured that it was just some sort of cultural thing. In his home, unless you knew a person, it was considered polite to keep at least half a meter away from someone. He began walking back to the couch when he saw Egypt lean over and kiss Prague as well. Snickering, he took a seat back down where he had set his salad.

"Now, she was only joking," said Czech, speaking about Denmark. He took a quick bite of salad, swallowing before speaking again. His gaze went to Prague, who had stopped eating and was now staring at his lap. It was clear that the kisses had embarrassed him, "Hey, Prague, your face is really red. Well, it's pink, but still. What's got you all hot and bothered?" He leaned against his sibling, laughing, "Huh? Huh?"

Egypt reached up to fix his headpiece while Czech teased Prague, watching their interaction instead of the television. Really, as much of a crazed football fan as he was, this was a little more amusing. He honestly did feel a little bad for making Prague uncomfortable without meaning to, but watching him act that way over something so simple made the corners of his mouth twitch into an almost smile. They mostly greeted each other with handshakes in Europe, he supposed, and not with kisses and bows, so maybe he was just put off by that... Or something else. Whatever it was, it seemed to be out of place.

Seeing as how Czech had never taken the sweets away from him, the Mediterranean nation decided that perhaps he should offer it to Prague, slipping the box onto the other man's lap so that it blocked his line of sight to his thighs. "Sorry," he murmured in his hushed tone of voice, leaning forward a bit to peek out at his face from beneath the curtain of white Egyptian cotton provided by his headpiece. "Jiji?"

((Jiji: slang for homosexual))

Denmark blinked, straightening. She hadn't meant to upset him. "Hah, don't worry," she said, shaking her head. "It was only a joke, ja? God, you'd suffer around Copenhagen." The last bit was said in an undertone. Although really, some time around Copenhagen was enough for anyone to start being able to tell what's a joke and waht's not. This guy, Egypt, was just so serious. Oh, what was this? She shrieked at first, moving away from what seemed to be a wild dog. But then she remembered that one of them had a sort of dog... Thing. She lowered her legs down from being suddenly curled up on the couch and looked toward Cairo unsurely. "Will it bite me?" she asked him. "It-It's not wild, is it?"

Czech stopped teasing his brother for a bit when Egypt offered Prague some candy. The capitol looked up, his expression still a bit stressed. He looked at Czech for help, but the nation shrugged. He had no idea what Egypt was asking. It was probably something about the candy or something. Neither of them spoke Arabic. After a quick pause, Czech nodded at Egypt to get Prague to take some. Swallowing, he took the box and sort of just looked at it. He mumbled a thank you, at which Czech sighed. Putting a hand over his mouth while he chewed his food, he looked at Egypt. "He said thank you," he said. He was about to explain why, but then Denmark let out an unearthly scream. He set his salad down and looked at the small dog by her legs. He suppressed a chuckle, "Denmark, it's just a dog..."

At being called a dog, Anubis offered a low growl and turned his snout up into the air, seemingly insulted, while Cairo laughed at Denmark's reaction. "You look like you've seen a ghost, Danimark! Don't worry, he's really smart, he won't bite you. He's been around since way back when Egypt's mother was around. I think the last person he'd bitten was some French soldier stomping around the pyramids."

Nodding slowly, Egypt held out his hand to wait for the lean black canine to return to him, rubbing his fingers along its back slowly. At least Prague was eating now. He had looked so dismayed a little while ago. Hopefully whatever he'd really done to upset him wouldn't be held against him in the future. Raising an eyebrow, the man decided to poke a bit more fun at Denmark, murmuring quietly, "But you know, jackals are closer to grey wolves than they are any sort of domestic dog..."

Czech was going to say that talking about animals would probably scare Denmark again, but there was a knock at the door. Immediately standing, he went over and opened the door. He was sure surprised to see North Korea standing at his door. While he had invited everyone in the world, but he certainly hadn't expected North Korea to show up. In fact, North Korea was the last person he expected to see. He was so in shock that he couldn't really greet him. Instead, he sort of just motioned to the table and said something about food. He looked over at his other guests. "Hey, uh, we have a new guest..."

Denmark looked more and more alarmed at each word which came out of Cairo's mouth. A j-jackal?! She squeaked and shrinked away from the wild beast. What a horrid thing to bring to a party. And close to wolves too! She loved the wild areas of her country, and wildlife from afar. But animals such as those, carnivorous nasty beasts, they scared her out of her skin. Her attention was distracted from it by a knocking at the door and Czech getting up. It turned out to be... She couldn't see from here. Getting up, she bounced over to Egypt and promptly bent down to kiss him on the cheek - just because she could - and then went to the door. She was like Copenhagen in that sort of manner. Oh. Not exactly the party animal. "Evening, North Korea," she greeted, albeit in a less warm manner than she had greeted Czech and - well, now - Egypt. Her view on him was that, yes, what happened in his country was disgusting. But being rude and mean wasn't going to fix anything.

((Poor Egypt... Couldn't resist. XD Oh, and you're right about Czechs being kinda chivalrous and stuff, Ice. The guy in my class isn't even properly Czech but he's really polite with girls.))

"D-Danimark-?!"

As soon as Denmark sauntered past him Egypt went white as a sheet, stiffening while the hair beneath his headpiece bristled. Anubis yelped with the sudden hard pressure on his back once his master's grip tightened over the back of his neck, slipping into his nation's lap with a low whine of complaint. The man didn't react at all; he was going completely blue-screen.

"Oh, hello, Denmark-ssi, Czech-ssi, Prague-ssi." North Korea greeted as he entered, offering three bows respectively and leaving his shoes by the door. Cairo approached before he had much of a chance to bow towards him, leaning forward to kiss the other man with a smile.

"Hi, Kori!" He welcomed, slipping an arm around the younger man's shoulders. "How you been?"

"Oh, I've been well, dongmu." The kiss didn't phase him in the slightest; aside from China and Cuba, his only real friends were all from the Middle East. Nodding slowly, North Korea rubbed the back of his head in awkward silence and shuffled over to sit between Egypt and the arm of the couch, the latter of which was still in the middle of a rather impressive statue impression. He'd expected a few more people to be here... Or at least, someone he got along well with. Out of all the people here, the only ones not hostile toward him were Egypt and Cairo.

((dongmu: comrade

Danimark/Kori: Denmark/Korea

Egypt and North Korea are cool with each other because North Korea and Egypt have helped each other several times military-wise, and Egypt runs North Korea's only cell phone network. Egypt also helps in paying for construction in Pyongyang, like for the world's largest hotel. Ironically, it's shaped like a pyramid.))

Czech let the other guests greet North Korea while he sneaked away. He wasn't the biggest fan of North Korea, even if he had helped him before. The only reason he did was to make himself and his people look good. Also, if he didn't help, everyone else would get upset with him. Still, he had said everyone was invited, so North Korea had every right to show up. He went into his living room and picked up his now empty bowl, taking it into the kitchen. He put it in the sink before grabbing a plate and getting a couple kebabs and some fruit. He seriously hoped that he could get his plate together before North Korea walked inside. Just being in the same room as him made him really nervous.

Were European parties always like this? Everyone seemed so quiet... or perhaps it was because he'd decided to come along. While the thought made him uncomfortable, he couldn't help but feel that it was most likely true. His reputation was sub-par, at best. Recalling there being mention of food on the table, the petite young country stood up and excused himself, shuffling off toward the kitchen to retrieve a bowl. Instead, he found Czech inside, piling some food onto his own plate. It got him to hold still and shift his weight from one foot to the other in discomfort, considering briefly just turning back and sitting down again before taking a hesitant step forward.

"Uh, h-hey," he stammered, trying a more casual tone than his usual sing-song barking, "Could you tell me where to get a plate?"

Czech looked up from where he was putting food on his plate to see North Korea walk into the room. He repressed a sigh, and focused on getting the food on his plate faster. It was awkward to have someone he disliked in the room. He was going to try to be nice, as it was his party after all, but it was going to be difficult. Though, he ignored the other nation and turned to leave the room. Just then, North Korea asked where he got the plate. It was a slow response, but Czech eventually managed to look at him. "Hello," he said, being extremely formal, "They're right in the middle of the table." He pointed before quickly leaving the room. He couldn't stand to be in the room with North Korea any longer.

North Korea's shoulders fell a bit slack as he watched Czech hurry out of the room, his eyes falling away from his receding figure. Any hint of doubt left in his mind quickly dissipated; he shouldn't have come in the first place. Still, with China siding with America for once against his latest nuclear testing plans, he really was in desperate need to for some friends in case something went wrong, and he had no-one to fall back on. He needed any chance he could get at getting someone to warm up to him. Perhaps if he threatened the others as little as possible and didn't yell at anyone for long enough, they'd eventually start talking to him. Glancing back toward the middle of the table, the young nation adjusted his scarf and went to pick up a plate, sighing a little while he placed a couple kebabs and some oranges on it. He came back out without a word and reclaimed his seat, peeling an orange in silence.

Czech hurried into the room and took a seat next to Prague again. This party certainly wasn't going as planned. No one was showing up, and when people did show up, it was people he hardly knew. Everyone that had showed up so far either wasn't his friend at all or friends with Slovakia in Denmark's case. Sighing, he began to eat the kebabs he got, not looking at anyone on the room. Prague was quiet as well, only silently shoving the candy into his mouth. It was obvious by his expression that he was still pretty embarrassed. Sitting in his seat more casually, Czech tried to focus on the hockey game. He hoped that the other guests would start up a conversation because he really didn't know what to talk about. Egypt didn't really talk at all from what he knew and he didn't really know North Korea. Then Denmark was freaking out about an animal. He thought maybe inviting everyone wasn't a very good idea.

Denmark had returned to her seat by the time that Czech and then North Korea came back through the doors with full plates. The party had become rather awkward by then. Hm. Not exactly what she had expected of it. She leaned back slightly in her sea on the couch, crossing one leg over the other. Funny; she was the only woman here. Thinking desperately of something to speak about, she cleared her throat and almost started to speak. But then her phone suddenly rang, in a typical Nokia ringtone. Finland made them, so she was kind of obliged to have one. They survived better than most phones anyway. Survivors. "Excuse me," she muttered, rifling about in a small black bag she had brought along with her. Producing her phone, she glanced briefly at the Caller ID and rolled her eyes before answering.

"Hen, Copen."

"Hej, Denmark! I'm arriving soon~" came the sing-song reply in Danish. "See you in a couple of moments!"

And then he hung up.

Denmark hung up as well and then waved her phone at the room. "Copenhagen's approaching. Brace yourself," she chuckled, and then tucked the device away.

Meanwhile, Copenhagen was indeed approaching the door to Czech's home. He was wearing a black jacket and bowtie over a red shirt, along with pinstriped black pants and black leather shoes. His hair was in its usual messy surfer style which worked for his face. All in all, he looked pretty sleek and he knew it. Putting his own iPhone away in his pocket, he came to the door and entered without knocking - as per usual. "Hej, everybo..." His greeting trailed off. It seemed there was no-one here. Frowning slightly, he stepped in further. "Hello? Anyone here?"

Though he'd never outwardly admit it, Cairo couldn't help but think that this was one extremely awkward party. No-one was saying much of anything to anyone at this point... Certainly not all European parties were supposed to be like this. As if in answer to his silent prayers for something to happen to break the ice, a sudden voice from the hall got the Egyptian capital to spring to his feet and hop out with a call of 'I'll get it!', skidding to a halt as he spotted the other city standing there.

"As-salam alaikum, Copenhagen! How you been?" His grin returning, Cairo stepped up to Copenhagen and gave him a quick peck on either cheek before linking arms with him, trying to drag him along. "Hey, listen," he muttered quietly, "This party's a total bust so you need to do something to keep it alive, okay? Everything's just been really awkward..."

"Hi." North Korea called from down by his seat, leaning back behind Egypt to try catching a peek at the newest party-goer.

((As-salam alaikum: peace be upon you/greeting))

Well, then - it turned out the place wasn't entirel empty. But it seemed that this was indeed a party. He didn't bat an eye as he was kissed; he often got that sort of thing when he visited Italy or Holland. Although he preferred it when it was a pretty woman performing the action. He chuckled as his arm was linked through the capital's - like a different version of what he would have done; which was sling his arm around Cairo's shoulders. "I'm the right person for that," he said confidently, letting himself be dragged along by the fellow city. When they entered, he unlinked his arm to give them all a cheery wave, which Denmark returned in her own more curt fashion. "Hej!" he greeted them, peering about for any more people. Huh. "No chicks here other than my country?" he asked, nose wrinkling slightly. "You can't have a party without some hot girls around... Hrm." He did indeed look disappointed about the lack for females to flirt with. Taking out his phone once more, he scrolled down his group chats. "Shall I invite some humans around?" he asked Czech over the top of his phone, already typing out a message and attaching a map. PARTY HERE! JACUZZIS, TOP DJS, ONLY THE BEST INVITED. BEST PARTY OF THE WEEKEND AND FREE BOOZE! He'd been to Czech before and had exchanged numbers with pretty girls he met. Copenhagen was quite shallow and materialistic, but if there was someone he really fell in love with, he fell quite hard.

Czech looked over at Denmark when her phone rang. It sure sounded like she was on the phone with Copenhagen, based on the friendly way she was taking. Moments later, his suspicions were confirmed when Copenhagen walked through the door after Denmark said he was coming. Czech greeted him along with the others. He was going to invite Copnhagen to eat something, but he was shoved back by Prague, who seemed irked about something to do with Copenhagen. They weren't fighting, were they? When Copenhagen made a comment about there being no women, Czech mocked a sigh and crossed his arms. "Aw, I'm hurt," he said jokingly, "Are Prague and I not attractive enough for you?" Tipping his head, he pouted.

"..."

Disapproving of the way Copenhagen spoke about women, the finally calm Egyptian nation reached over and stole a piece of orange from North Korea's bowl, the teenager having stiffened up a bit at the thought of pretty women coming to attend the party. To be perfectly honest, he'd always felt much more comfortable acting intimately around men than he had around women, though he blamed that on the way Pyongyang constantly scolded him whenever his eyes happened to wander over a pretty girl. He almost didn't notice Egypt taking food from his plate. Once he did notice, it wasn't like he moved the bowl out of his reach; instead, he placed it in between the two of them so that they could share the food, deciding that he should be nice to whatever friends - or, more accurately, acquaintances that didn't hate him - he did have. While Egypt took another orange and bit into the soft citrus fruit, the younger country next to him tightened his bright red scarf around his neck, listening to Czech complain about Copenhagen not finding them attractive enough for the party.

"I-I think the two of you look nice today..." He mumbled, not realizing that it was a joke before biting into a kebab.

"Na'am," Egypt agreed, leaning against Prague a bit.

((Na'am: yes))

Copenhagen quirked an eyebrow at Czech. It seemed that everyone had become rather awkward at his suggestion. He'd only been trying to make this party a bit more lively. "You two don't quite have the attributes I desire," he said, releasing one of those laughs which were so very him - loud and booming and full of amusement at his very own joke. "And you're too thin for a C," he added, still grinning that wide smile. "But I can't say you look too bad." He twiddled his bowtie, throwing Prague a navy-eyed wink just for the Hell of it. His phone was still in his hand, message ready to be sent. Denmark looked slightly affronted, folding her hands in her lap and averting her gaze. This might go into some slightly embarrassing conversation on her part.

Czech rolled his eyes at the others' reaction to his joke. He regretted making it then, seeing that it was probably best not to joke around with that. He had forgotten that some people weren't comfortable with that, even if it was extremely biased and stupid. He looked at North Korea. "Uh, thanks?" he said, confused at the fact hat it had been taken seriously. His gaze then went to Copenhagen and he narrowed his eyes, "What is being skinny suddenly a bad thing? I'll have you know, I'm very physically fit. My muscles are just lean is all." Czech jabbed a finger in the capitol's direction, getting ready to challenge him to a strength contest, but then Prague suddenly rose from the couch and went into the kitchen, mumbling something about getting a drink. Czech stared after his brother until he disappeared into the walk-in fridge, "Hey, what do you suppose is eating him?"

China yawned and knocked on Czech's door. He had heard that there was going to be a party here, but he knew he was probably late, having been at a Chinese New Year celebrations. It was a tradition for them to go back home and eat dinner together to celebrate. He hadn't come to this party empty handed though. He had brought plenty of gifts and red envelopes with him as we'll as fortune-telling crackers and other stuff. He knocked again, louder, wondering who'd be there. Then he glanced back at the pile of presents.

"... Maybe I brought too much..." He wondered aloud. Then he shrugged and awaited a reply from inside.

Before anyone could answer, there was another knock at the door. Czech was about to stand to go get the door, but Prague appeared from the kitchen and opened the door. Czech watched his sibling's back for a second, raising himself up on the couch slightly. He soon saw Prague step to the side and invite someone in. He realized quickly that it was China he was seeing, carrying loads of things into his home. Standing, Czech hurried over to remove his guest's burden. He held out his arms, "Here, I can get that for you. It looks like a lot. I'm the host after all." He rose his eyebrows, expecting China to hand over everything. He felt sort of band that the other nation had brought so much for the other guests. He felt a little embarrassed as well, as the party probably looked boring to him with everyone just sitting around and watching hockey. He bit his lip and looked back at China. "Well, come on!"

China came in and put one large bag of stuff into Czech's arms, still holding another.

"Xin nian kuai le!" he called, "I'll just hold this one. I got all this stuff as New Year Gifts for you all! Come take a look and pick out your favorite!"

Inside the bags were small jade statues of Chinese zodiacs, wooden snakes that could move, lucky zodiac bottle things and many more small gifts.

"Xin nian kuai le, gong xi fa cai, Czech," China said, giving Czech a red envelope with Chinese New Year wishes on a letter and some money inside. Czech's name was written in Chinese and English on the envelope. "I have one for everyone! You, too, Prague! Xin nian kuai le, gong xi fa cai!" He gave a similar red envelope to the city, seeming very happy and excited.

((Xin nian kuai le = Happy [Chinese] new year!

Gong xi fa cai = Congrats on becoming rich / I hope you can become rich [The person who receives the red envelope usually says this though...))

Instead of brightening like he'd expected to at the sight of China appearing at the party, North Korea shrank back against Egypt, who was muttering a 'hello, Seni,' so quietly that he might as well not have spoken at all. Lunar New Years' had just past, so he was absolutely certain it was fresh on China's mind; in one of his usual childish fits, North Korea had felt so bitterly betrayed by China and Russia's governments for talking down his nuclear plans that he'd refused to send them so much as a holiday message, though actually seeing his older brother's face light up as he passed out gifts to Czech and Prague brought a small surge of guilt up in his chest. Maybe he should have thought things through first before trying to do something out of spite to one of the last people he had on his side.

"Oh, Seni's here! That's fantastic - it's really great to see you! What's with the New Years' stuff though? New Years' was back two months ago!" Jovial, Cairo finally decided to take a seat a little ways apart from Denmark, grinning at the new guest. He was silently hoping that Copenhagen would be able to resuscitate this party to some degree - if anyone could do it, it had to be Copenhagen, as charismatic and outgoing as the other man was - and having someone he generally liked like China show up just as whatever spark the party had was starting to fizzle out did nothing but bolster his mood. And on top of that China just looked so lively today, handing out gifts left and right. Charisma was charging in the air! The night could be saved yet!

Glancing toward Prague, the Egyptian capital raised an eyebrow, looking around a bit. "Hey, Prague, could you tell me where to get some water? I don't see anything but liquor out..."

((Seni: China. Pronounced like Seen-y. I really don't know why but from my own personal experience, it seems like anyone from an Arabic country loves China. There's no real reason for it but they just love the country.

Copenhagen snorted, breaking off into a laugh at Czech's argument. He certainly did seem very protective about the whole muscle thing. Although Copenhagen's was quite handsome in the neck upwards and he was quite tall and slim, he was not very muscular in the upper body. Not much at all, really. He didn't really have much of a reason to be; the only reason his legs had some strong muscle was that he cycled so much and played football regularly. The same went to Denmark, although she played football more regularly and preferred walking. "I was only kidding," he chuckled, offering him a wink. Oh, who was this? He turned slightly to see China, and waved eagerly. "Hej there!" he called. But then his entire body froze for just a second.

Liquor.

He was off like a flash into the kitchen, grabbing himself a good strong beer and cracking it open. Glugging down the can, he then brought it away from his lips and glanced about. Hey, where had Prague gone? Oh, yeah. Greeting China. He went back to the living room, eyeing China's laden arms. That was some cool stuff.
