Oh Jeeze, I was just about to say I really LOVED the size of this pygmy since I could BLINKING SEE IT!

I wish ALL pygmies were this size, I'd be all over collecting them. I really like the Sea Pearl one, but it's bitty, and I keep wishing the Mysts were just a tad bigger. So if this is the size pygmies will be, I'll definitely be collecting more. If they stay as dinky as the others - not so much.

Thank you for the birthday release, all involved. It was an excellent job!

In my best understanding, Pygmies are cat/dog sized, yes. Pumpkins are on the larger end of the range, whatever that happens to be, and Magelights are comparably sized. I know Vicats was pushing for a 4-10lb range for the original Pygmies, so I assume Pumpkins and Magelights are probably up to 30 or 40lbs - of course this is all dependent on a future standardized sizing scale, and my thoughts on their sizes are going to be flexible. n_n

Good question.

You're welcome, Blue. Thanks for being so up on top of the Wiki. We all appreciate it.

EDIT - a little extra breed info because someone was asking:

Magelights detect methane and other flammable gases in the air in the low parts per million, and extinguish their tails quickly to prevent catastrophic fire by comically shoving the ends in their mouths to smother the flame.

Magelights honk a bit like peafowl, and while capable of telepathic communication like other dragons, don't usually have a lot to say.

Their pointed beaks are used as a dexterous appendage, due to their lack of hands or wing thumbs. This specialized tool doesn't develop until near adulthood, and Magelights are particularly awkward and vulnerable in adolescence due to the lengthening of their phalanges and the sudden absence of manipulatable hands. Puberty sucks.

The oily, resinous secretion they produce as a firestarter can be harvested and used by humans, but its smell when inert and unburnt is particularly foul. Its odor is remnicient of a mixture of rotting oysters and low quality grain liquor. It can be condensed into an oleoresin block, which can be stored for a time and kept in emergency kits, but only in a metal cannister sealed with wax, as it tends to oxidize quickly and smell all the worse. It should be noted that pursuading a Magelight pygmy to produce extra oil for collection usually involves extensive bribery and begging on the part of the poor fool who assumed it'd be a good idea.

Magelight pygmies are opportunistic feeders and will eat just about anything.

They are social by nature, and seek out the company of other individuals of their species, other dragons, and humans.

Wow, thank you so much for answering! this was really interesting, especially the extra info on our new favorite Pygmies. I could imagine interesting stories to go along with a dragon like that! A miner's best friend. =P

I know it's a little off-topic, but I'm curious for fan-art's sake, while we're talking dragon sizes, I'm also curious about the sizes of the Nebula dragons and Gemshards, if anyone knows?

Also, I feel very welcome here, I'm pretty new to the forums. Thanks, everyone! <3

But being larger-sprited will make them work ever-so-much better with Pumpkins! It's a match made in Heaven Hell! >D (I think it's a perfect combo anyway but I DO think the larger sprite make it work even better!) I also plan to cross them with Dark Mysts though again because I think that's a nice Halloween combo.

Also to be honest I've never quite understood why pygmy -sprites- have to be tiny just because the dragons are 'in-character'. I get the smaller egg sprite - that's cute and doesn't hurt anything - but especially since it's already a rule for normal-size dragons that the relative size of the sprites != relative size of the dragons, why does it have to be that way for pygmies? I mean if sprite size were the rule, Golden Wyverns would be bigger than Desipis, and we all know that's not right. tongue.gif

Just when I thought they could not possibly get any cuter...

Ehehehe, tell me about it! Once I have some spare time this summer, I'm gonna draw one trying to put it's tail out. (Maybe)

Maybe if we're really, really lucky, Marri will make a similar-sized Pygmy of equally cool and complementary/nicely-contrasting colours and TJ will Release it and CHECKERS! poptartFINALTINY.gif

In the meantime: PBs? smile.gif

You mean Pumpkins?

Marri, I have a question about the Magelights. Do their tails come alight from their fire breath, or does the tail itself somehow produce flames? Is it the oils on their tails that makes the fire purple, or their own magic or breath powers? .0.

They can probably breathe fire and relight themselves if the flame goes out. I assume the purple flame is caused by the chemical composition of their oily goo, but the fact that it's cool to the touch is probably caused by mana interference.

I think that was meant to be purebreds. smile.gif I wish I had CB pumpkins to try breeding these with...

True, but a lot of people don't have CB pumpkins. Haha! I would love to breed that checker, too, but alas, I joined way too late for pumpkins. tongue.gif

The faces of the Pygmies are more cute then i remember i must have been too tired to see anything.

But the short neck of the male or long neck of the female Magelights still bother me.

Personally, I think it looks cute - the male, I think appears to have a shorter one due to perspective, looking at the pose.

And young animals often do appear to have longer necks than adults, since they're thinner and not as muscular.

Soo, Marri's Pygmies have inspired me to practice more with my spriting. My little eggs are so pretty. :3

Alternatively, what are people's favorite names for their Pygmies?

Pygmy... wyvern? *head asplodey*

Does this mean they can only breed with their own kind? o_0?

Pygmies breed with pygmies. smile.gif These pygmies will be able to breed with any other pygmy, just like dragon wyverns aren't restricted from breeding with non-wyverns.
