The only points you can get is either hatching an egg and gifting/keeping it OR donating to thread to a prize requester. *cough* You can trade the hatchlings, from the first post of the thread. Some questions that might be asked ... I wanna trade my hatchlings! But YOU said I can only gift/keep! Can I trade, pweez? - Uhhh...sure. There's too many posts to edit that, but yes. You can trade them. The part that seems to me that would cause confusion is the form. I mentioned this before but it was missed on the update.
