DC Moon Watch and Lunar Herald Theories

Recommended Posts

Here's what Prince_Xanthius's post is referrering to when they mentioned me - basically, an answer to the question 'why are blues dropping so long and why do we expect silvers to also drop so long, when bronzes and golds haven't that dropped much?':

If Cirion is exactly twice as fast as Aurax, you'd expect all colours to drop the same number of days, but with two colour sets halved and the other two in a block.

Here's a simplified, generalised chart:

Moon A Phase 1 & Moon B Phase 1 <-- colour two

Moon A Phase 1 & Moon B Phase 2 <-- colour one

Moon A Phase 2 & Moon B Phase 3 (like 2) <-- colour three

Moon A Phase 2 & Moon B Phase 4 (like 1) <-- colour four

Moon A Phase 3 (like 2) & Moon B Phase 1 <-- colour four

Moon A Phase 3 (like 2) & Moon B Phase 2 <-- colour three

Moon A Phase 4 (like 1) & Moon B Phase 3 (like 2) <-- colour one

Moon A Phase 4 (like 1) & Moon B Phase 4 (like 1) <-- colour two

Basically, the way the moons interact if they're in a 2:1 relation causes there to be a specific colour progression - ramping down on one end, ramping up on the other.

It's like making rainbow paper strips with equal colour blocks on them, but then rather than arranging them in a strictly recurring pattern, turning each second paper strip around. That makes the colours on the ends of the colour strips 'twice as long', but all in all you have the same amount of colour for each of the colours.

(In our case, silver and blue are at the end of the colour progression.)

Edit:

Some visualisation:

Their stuff is strictly better for theorising, but in case someone wants to know if this is by chance or a general phenomenon of a 2:1 moon phase ratio, I hope the above makes it accessible why it's a general phenomenon. smile.gif

Edit: Since my wording in the above paragraph was actually abyssmally bad and implying something that I never meant to imply, check out Prince_Xanthius's excellent additional information.

This. So much this.

I've seen some people complaining, "If we just would've started with silver, we wouldn't have had to wait so long!" Unfortunately, with the way the moons move, we would have been waiting for something else instead. It's just a symptom of the moon cycles being what they are. Thanks for this easy to understand explanation!

It is right that if we'd started in the middle of the silver drop we'd have gotten a different colour every four days, though. But it's difficult to schedule that and also schedule the release for a weekend, both. smile.gif

Inspired by Tomato_Juice's work, I made a small and simple badge as well. I wasn't sure which text or size would be best, so I made a few options. I would be happy to edit these or make more if anyone has any suggestions or requests!

Also, I think we are doing more Astrology than Astronomy, because we are more concerned about how the movements of Aurax and Cirion affect the Lunar Herald Dragons, and not necessarily how the DC Universe works as a whole... Though that would be interesting.

Astrological it is, then!

@PinkGothic: I grabbed Prince_Xanthius' post because I felt the visual did a good job of explaining things that are hard to explain in words. Yours explains the generally idea pretty well.

I'm going to need to figure out where and how to update the opening posts with this info, so it will be easily accessed.

Lol! What size do you need for your sig? I can try to make one fit for you?

Edit #2: ...Maybe... From Google: "Astronomy is the study of the universe and its contents outside of Earth's atmosphere. Astronomers examine the positions, motions, and properties of celestial objects. Astrology attempts to study how those positions, motions, and properties affect people and events on Earth."

We're... kinda doing both. Lol. Thoughts?

Yo! Opening and Theories Posts Updated! Please check it to see if I've forgotten anything! Is it understandable?

Maybe the size of most of my banners in my sig? (Or maybe even the slightly smaller Project Fakemon one. I've been meaning to make one, but never sat down to do it.)

The one you have now looks like it fits. Do you still want me to resize it? If so, any special requests?

*Does some rearranging to so that everything in the sig fits smoothly* Nah, I think it's okay.

The picture fits when I use my browser at maximized size, but usually I have the window at half my screen size, which squishes everything. So, I, usually, set my sig, so I can see everything when the window is small. But, the image is okay now.

I wonder if people will still be motivated to post breeding and catch results when we have silvers.

I think the focus will probably shift to, "When can I breed x colored lunars for my lineage projects?" If we track the lunar phases so people can have an exact date for when the colors will change, I bet traffic to this thread will remain steady.

Actually, that's not strictly true. It WOULD be possible to have 8 days per colour with no split if the phases were aligned differently (I was bored and playing around with it yesterday). If Aurox hits full 4 days after Cirion, then you get Gold-Blue-Bronze-Silver, all for 8 days each before repeating. It's also possible to get the splits uneven (such as Eight-Three-Five-Eight-Three-Five) - always totalling 8 days per colour)

Because TJ has put the full/new cycle of the 2 moons in sync with each other, we get the ramp up/ramp down effect and (thankfully) evenly split phases, but it's not a general phenomenon of a 2:1 cycle ratio.

As for motivation, once we get silvers we will (hopefully) have a confirmed theory, so people won't really feel the need to track breedings etc. At this point we can be fairly certain that all bred and CB eggs are affected solely by the lunar phase, and therefore all we need to know is what colour is available when. And for exact dates, once we have a theory confirmed, we can easily put a chart on the excel and it can self fill in the colours/phases/dates really easily for YEARS into the future.

Now we just need to figure out where to put that chart and how to make people aware of it smile.gif

I see I was unclear, which is totally my fault, and regrettably not very salvagable in hindsight. For what it's worth, with 'general' I did not mean 'holds true for all 2:1 constellations' but 'holds true for 2:1 constellations outside of the Aurax / Cirion one (if 2:1 is correct for Aurx:Cirion)' (a/k/a "if you look at 2:1 constellations, you would expect to see this principle a lot" as opposed to "[...] this principle exclusively").

I (stupidly?) figured it'd just be confusing to mention it in a scenario where it's clearly not applicable, and where the main point of my post was to assure people don't freak out about the long Cirion/Indigo Lunar Herald drop. xd.png

I didn't think as far as the uneven splits, though, I stopped playing with it when I hit the 8:8:8:8 variant. That's kind of interesting. I'm glad you tinkered with it more than I did! I don't think I would have come across that one.

tl;dr: Yep! You're absolutely right about your observation. Thanks for sharing it!

I did wonder after I posted it if you meant 'general' differently to how I read it tongue.gif

The uneven splits thing I found interesting, and tbh it would have been hilarious to have one of those from the point of view of the release (can you imagine the outcry if the second colour released only dropped for 24 hours before switching!), but I am very glad TJ has gone (as far as we know) with the even 4 day split as it works much nicer for breeding and lineages.

Well right now it's still indigo eggs (at least the egg I breed was one)

Yup. Assuming we're correct about how this all works, Cirion should change to waning crescent tomorrow at 8PM cave time. The eggs will again be brown.

Wait, I thought the phases would change today, because based on Cirion's earlier phases, we should get 1 night of the full moon, then 3 days of the waning gibbous, then 4 days of the waning crescent.

- Cirion changed from Full moon to Waning Gibbous on September 10th at 8 PM.

- So, the next change should be 3 days later, on September 13th at 8 PM, where Waning Gibbous changes to Waning Crescent.

Is my math wrong or something? I'm confused now.

Well ... somewhere it's probably already 8pm on the 13th of September, but not in the USA and not for DC.

So did I, but then I looked at this calendar, and it shows them changing tomorrow. Maybe the calendar needs fixed?

8 pm on the 13th is still about 7 hours and 6 minutes away according to Cavetime, so you're a little early. Two-thirds of the globe is ahead of DC time, from the international dateline that runs roughly down the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

When talking about DC events, I always state dates and times in Cave Time. No other time zones matter. That calendar posted above is referenced in Cave Time.

We were saying we thought the eggs would change at 8PM, September 13th Cave Time, but that calendar shows them changing on September 14th.

See, I don't care at all about time of day, with that one. I simply went by what's being showed *most of the day*.

Midnight at the Dateline is noon at Greenwich. The day starts at the Dateline with New Zealand, Australia and Asia, moving across Africa and Europe to South America and finally North America, finishing with Hawaii and Alaska.

Timezones are plus or minus hours from Greenwich.

Ruby's calendar threw me too the first time I looked at it. Since the change comes in the evening , I think she's posted it by what happens for the majority of a day? Tonight at 8pm cave time the moons should change. If current theories are correct the eggs will change to bronze.

eta: cant read I guess. she said that herself...
