Those of Black Blood

Recommended Posts

He wasn't actually burning, it was just a feeling. He wouldn't have actually caught fire or anything like that, it was just a sensation of warmth. Like Shadow said, a fever.

That third one's snowflake obsidian, btw. I'll go with that.

Anyways, nobody showing signs of powers yet. Sam got a fever and Celina was dipping into hypothermia. That's it.

What Shadow is saying is that she physically cannot freeze something because those sub-human temperatures required would kill her. None of the people have actually had any of their powers appear so it would mean her actual body temperature is that low.

Since she's human, a subzero temperature would mean she was very, very dead.

Aroara, I'm confused by the point you are making. King's sheet describes him as slightly larger than a grey wolf. This would make Hati and Skoll who are the size of polar bears at least twice his size. Physically speaking, Hati and Skoll would also be faster than him as they have longer legs so can cross a greater distance in a shorter amount of time.

the size difference is huge

not to mention Hati and Skoll can avoid obstacles via flight

You never specified that speed on your sheet, you only said "speed". You'd need to run that by Shadow since his speed was never specified. Its a good idea to give ideas about powers on sheets because, otherwise, you can just toss stuff in.

Moreover, that logic doesn't make sense because bears and wolves are built differently. Bears have shorter, stumpier legs and are designed to be able to stand on their back legs for some time. Wolves do not have this and are able to run faster as a result of their need for speed. Polar bears? They hunt in the water. So while their size is the same as a polar bear, they still have wolf anatomy. So that logic makes no sense.

Doing a senior project on wolves, I'm sorry, doesn't make you an expert on all animals. This has more to do with anatomy and that would support them moving faster as a result of their larger size. Think of it like the horse, Secretariat. His longer stride allowed him to run faster than most horses. Being larger, Hati and Skoll have a much larger stride so they can move much faster because they cover more area.

A wolf can run forty miles an hour at best and their stride is 26-30 inches. As Hati and Skoll are roughly twice the size of an average wolf (let's say 2.5 x), their speed would be an average of 100 mph and their stride would range from 65-75 inches. A greyhound runs at an average of 39 mph. King would be WAY slower than Hati and Skoll.

I don't know why all your characters have to be better than everyone's. The top recorded speed of a Greyhound I'd 43 mph. Still leagues behind the calculated speed of Hati and Skoll.

That would be true if wolves were straight-line runners like the Short-Faced Bear. Wolves are predators and naturally must be able to turn at a moment's notice. Even at a larger size, they are still capable of doing this. Trees don't pose that much of a problem, just like they don't for deer running through them or smaller wolves. Additionally, trees are spaced out because of their roots system so there would be space for them to run.

You're comparing an animal with individual functioning legs to a car with stable, nonmoving legs. There isn't a comparison there. A cheetah can make swerving actions that would put a car out of commission and it can do that by rotating it's tail to act as a rudder. Animals can move quickly because they have legs that can move separately of one another. The addition of joints makes it so they can turn very quickly. It's what they are designed to do. How else would bears like grizzlies live in and around forests and still survive?

Moreover, it's not a right angle. Following a scent, they'd move in a fairly straight line and only have to dodge trees. This would require only slight movements to steer them out of the way and then back in again. Animals can easily make those kind of turns.

These are the forests in PA

Notice the spaces between the trees, even off of the paths. It's plenty of room to run and plenty of time to make movements between trees.

Even if we're talking about large trees, they'll have much larger roots. Physically speaking, there has to be space otherwise the trees would kill one another when their root systems connect.

See?

Forests aren't all trees. They're dense, sure, but there is a lot space between them.

Shadow is sick and likely will be going to sleep soon. I'm not sure if she's still on at this point since it's late and she isn't feeling good.

I'm appalled at how long this has dragged on.

And you brought your mother into this?

Keep in mind this argument started because you contradicted your information on your sheet. So no, we will not just go with it because what you did was god-modding, which is against rp'ing rules.

"God Modding" is in essence when someone’s character has the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. And example is when they simply cannot be harmed by any and all means other RP-ers try.

-It can be killing or injuring a character without the player's express permission.

-It can be when they simply can’t be hit and dodge all attacks or anything for this matter aimed at them.

-It can also be using other characters that other people RP with. In other words, if you do not RP as

Legolas, then you cannot have Legolas say anything, or do anything, without the player's express permission.

The absolute worst is when they make out another character to be what they’re not, just to make their own character seem superior. They make others seem weak, screaming for help, when they’ve made it quite clear about their advantages and strengths. This is called power-play. It’s a strain of God-Modding, but instead of just being irritating, it’s offensive to boot.

Keep this definition in mind, please, as you continue to write. Rule breaking will not be tolerated.

Alright, time for a lesson in writing flow

Just because this takes place in a fantasy world doesn't mean it isn't bound by rules. This plot and everything belongs to Shadow. It's her lore that created this. That's why in DC, the owner of the thread makes the rules. Shadow has also been on this site for many years and (As someone who often works close with her) likes to do things a specific way. When characters have powers that weren't mentioned or break the rules of the lore, it becomes difficult for the rest of the people involved because they have to work to compensate for that.

Think of it like Lord of the Rings. It's fantasy but there are still rules. The Eagles can't fly into Mordor. Hobbits aren't randomly becoming really buff. All characters are confined by their own weaknesses and act accordingly. It's insulting to people who take this writing seriously and find more fun to have richer lore to call it silly.

In this case, Hati and Skoll are 'Last Boss' material. They're designed with the specific purpose to add more plot twists to the thread and force the protagonists into interactions they might not have otherwise. King and Magnus, on the other hand, are monsters. While they can have a lot of significance to the plot, Hati and Skoll are hella powerful compared to them because it's their function.

Now, in a situation where a wolf is facing a bear, the wolf will usually back down. It's common sense and nature. But instead, King interacted with them like he was stronger than them. Even really brave and really stubborn people would not be pressed to do this immediately.

The idea behind writing is to make your characters realistic. Regardless of the setting, people behave and act in different ways. Learning how to do this makes it so your characters are stronger and more relatable and that's the goal of writing for a lot of us. We want to grow and get better at our craft because we appreciate it.

I thought it was kind of obvious they were the current main antagonists??? They're currently the strongest characters, and are going after some of the antagonists. No other characters are.

Look, we can't teach you how to write properly in one discussion, but the least you can do is accept criticism from three experienced writers. The reason this argument began was due to the fact that there is no physical way King could keep equal pace with Hati and Skoll while adhering to the logic of this fictional setting.

With this in mind, none of us are questioning if he has weaknesses. We were questioning the realism and balance of King compared to the world around him.

It's not meant to be an insult. People teach one another to write all the time on this forum and you learn by having others point out mistakes. Don't be angry with it. Just accept criticisms so you can learn to play better, more realistic characters.

Skoll and Hati are directly tied to the gods. They're more involved in the legends compared to King because they feature in them, just like the gods. While their powers are confined, they have a direct role in ushering in the end of the world. Additionally, they are larger than King by about twice his size. A lion can snap a hyena's neck and they aren't even twice their size. They're plot points. You can read that off of their sheets because all of their motivations center around killing two of the main characters.

King has no history mentioned, meanwhile. See the difference? Their motivations make them a major enemy.

You're talking about Lycaon right now, not King. Hati and Skoll have elements outside of the mythology of their parents. They are mythological figures.

King is not.

King is your OC.

Understand the difference now? We aren't talking about Lycaon, we're talking about King. They're different. If you want to keep a history secret, it doesn't really matter. But you can't have the history of Lycaon replace his own. It doesn't work that way. Also, mysteries in history don't really matter either since our knowledge doesn't influence our characters but that's another matter entirely.

You're not following rules of that logic, which is why we're having this conversation to start with. And Percy Jackson isn't even really an OC, as there's an actual published book about him.

Hey, as some may have seen I’ve gotten rid of previous posts. Shadow has allowed me to start a new, with revised characters. They are the same (relatively) with a few minor (king its major) differences. Celina I would begin from where I left off with her (on the side of the train dazed and confused) and king would be... well a clean slate. Here are the new and improved characters:

Name: Celina (Cece) Dunwoody Neiva Aysel (Knee-va A-yah-sel)

Age: 20

Gender: female

Sexuality: (Cece) Hetero (Neiva) pan

History:

Celina: Celina had a fairly normal child hood. Her father was the only vet in the small town near the mountains for several miles, and her papa worked at home. She lived with them for a long while, went to college to be a vet assistant right out of graduating from her tiny high school at 17. After a year of working with her dad, He told her to take a year off and enjoy life a little.

Neiva: Her “birth” consists of a clear winter full moon, its light hitting a clear frozen lake and reaching a large crystal in the depths. It was January (called the Wolf’s moon) in a place the natives called Dragon Eye Lake. Her werewolves though are the same as myths except for one key thing, they don't hunt humans. Those who do she takes away the blessing. She can make and destroy these monsters. Lycon’s werewolves she has no control over. Only the ones she created by taking a human and giving them a them a blessed pelt of the animal (wolf, fox, coyote etc.). The soul mates for these creatures(mostly female, sometimes male) are given a strand of her hair (angels would have a white/ silver streak in their hair) .

Looks:

Celina: Is a tall slender woman (5’10” and 125 lbs), with petite feet, slender hands, almost elf like with waist length platinum blonde hair and cold grey eyes. Milky skin to the point where she has been mistaken for an Albino.

Neiva: Long sliver white hair, wide silver blue eyes. Skin as white as newly fallen snow. There is a Crescent moon mark on her forehead shows up in wolf and dragon forms (image is reference)

Weapons: she prefers not to fight but if she did;

- Water is her element of choice

-wolf and dragon forms

Abilities:

-manipulates water and can change it’s appearance (ice frost snow)

-shape shift (into a large white wolf the size of a grizzly and a slender white dragon about the size of a school bus. Not very big at all)

-communicate with any canine

-Can create and destroy only her “Children” (werewolves and other were creatures) she made

-can make their partners (Angels)

-Can hover, only three to six inches from the ground (as dragon only) and only in moonlight (day, new moon, or in shadow she must walk)

Alliances: Wolves, canines, anyone associated with the forest. Her children and her Angels

Enemies: Fire, cats?

Other: her necklaceuser posted image

Name: King (his original name he’d forgotten)

Age: near adult, (hard to tell he looks young)

Gender: male

Sexuality: bi sexual

History: His past isn’t pretty. He and his mother where attacked by lycaon when he was seven. She was killed (in front of the boy) and he was bitten and turned as one of Lycoan’s “sons”. He swore on the river Styx to never consume human flesh, and fights the blood lust toward humans constantly by practicality starving himself most of the time, eating small meals of game meat, roots and berries if he has to. King fought his way up by fighting to the death his other brethren until he was first Beta of Lycoan’s pack. Then the old wolf gave an order he couldn’t fulfill; kill and devour the child they found in the woods. He refused and - after a losing fight with his Alpha- brought the child to safety and left, vowing to return and kill the old wolf and assume tital as Alpha and werewolf king to change their ways

Looks::human form 5'7" intense blue eyes, lanky body but strong.

Wolf form His blue eyes turn that color when angry or when he goes berserker

Weapons (if any): claws fangs…. That’s it.

Abilities:

-Wolf forum; about the size of the Northwestern wolf (larger then grey) with the same length and weight of a dire wolf (4.9 ft) in length and weighed between (110 and 174 lb) ((when healthy))

-enhanced speed (greyhound fast) and strength

-Senses heightened

-Berserker (has drawbacks; only when angry/bloodlust; fights until dead or collapses from exhaustion, cant recall going berserk.)

Alliances: Although he never served them, has huge respect for Ares and Hades (war and death).

Enemies: Artimes and her hunters (anything silver really) Lycon, Humans with guns.

Other: Nico says No!

Just a question: are new Godling/Ancient characters a possibility, even though plot things have happened?
