[hmmm I suppose we could assume that the trio (Mina, Toph and Aang) reach the 'residences' without trouble?

And pick up from Aang's first sight of them?]

((Sounds good to me and it'll keep the story moving))

It was difficult, to say the least, to see in the dark. Night had fallen completely by the time they reached the residences and the young Air bender's eyes widened in shock as he saw the state of the South Pole. "Oh no," He breathed, his eyes quickly moving from the towers stationed all around with guards looking down to the miserable excuses for houses that huddled together in a bunch. The look, the smell, everything about this place was awful. This wasn't a village or a home, this was a prison.

And it was all his fault. Reeling from this discovery, he stumbled backwards slightly before turning to look up at Toph for guidance. "Why doesn't anyone try to run?" He whispered, doing his best to conceal the tremble in his words. He needed to help these people. He couldn't just leave them in terrible conditions like this.

Toph considered her answer to Aang's stunned question.

Keeping her voice low,

"Apathy, perhaps, or lack of opportunity. Some have never known a life other than this." She paused before adding, "In the earlier years - immediately after the Fire Nation took over, there were a few runaways. They were made an example of - executed mainly - but it kept the rest in line."

Executed? Aang stared up at Toph then hesitantly turned to the miserable excuse for a village before finally hanging his head. After a few seconds, his shaking hands tightened their grip on his staff and he looked back up, determination filling his eyes. He was going to fix this. The only way he could hope to make amends for what he had done was to fix everything. Starting here. "I'm going to give them the opportunity, then," He replied, turning his gaze on the closest guard tower. A slight movement from his hand and his staff rapidly transformed into his glider. "I'm going to free everyone here."

Toph couldn't see what Aang was actually looking at, but she could hear determination in his voice and the soft hiss of wind as his staff converted.

"Where would they go once free?" Toph asked, not really wanting to put a dampener on the plan. "I doubt Appa would be able to carry all of them away."

The Phoenix King's reach is also going to be a problem.....

Then a smile crept across her face, something about Aang reminded her of how she used to be. A rebel kid sneaking out to take part in underground Bending tournaments without her parents' knowledge.

"What do you need me to do?"

[are we going with the traditional order of Element-Bending learning for the Avatar? As in it follows the flow of the seasons... Spring (Earth) - Summer (Fire) - Autumn (Air) - Winter (Water). So Aang as an Air Bender learns Water next?

Once tutors for all of them are found that is.]

((Yes, I'd like to go in the traditional order.))

"I don't know!" Aang admitted, a bit too loudly. He was just so upset and he didn't know how to stop any of this. The best he could do was try to make these people's lives better. "Go tell everyone to run as soon as they hear a commotion," He instructed before setting his sights on one of the guard towers and readying his glider. He paused only briefly before soaring into the air and flying up to the roof of the tower. He jumped down into the tower itself, startling the guards and causing the alarm to sound shortly thereafter. Only a few seconds later, one of the guards was knocked from the tower with a blast of air, followed by another. That was one down. Six more to go and countless more guards.

[Okies - I may make a Water Bender too since we're missing one. Perhaps one of the people Aang is aiming to free from camp?]

Toph nodded and headed into the camp to try and organise the captives to run.

She didn't need to see to know that Mina was probably shaking her head at the recklessness of the whole thing. She also knew that she'd have her work cut out - things had been this way for long enough that any other idea was inconceivable...

Alarms started blaring by the time Mina had finished knocking out any nearby guards. Damn. Did somebody notice her? A quick glance around proved that wasn't the case. There was a crash above in the towers, followed by yelling. Oh no. Aang...you didn't... Spinning on her heel, Mina sprinted towards the village. People were going to get hurt if she didn't do something! As expected, the town was in chaos. Mina got busy as soon as she was inside the gates, herding people away from any of the chaos and fighting off any guards that caught her. Although she didn't look like it, Mina came from a long line of Firebenders. Good Firebenders. She had grown up at the feet of skilled benders, and then learned even more once she had been shipped off to the South Pole. What made her so skilled was the simplest of notions: control. Her ability to keep a cool head made Namina able to bend to her heart's content. Which was why she easily outmatched a few measly guards. It didn't even take much bending to incapacitate a single guard.

((Sorry for the inactivity. I plan to be on more often.

Also, I might've forgotten to mention that Mina's bending fire can change colors because she can change its heat and intensity. Usually, though, it's golden.))

Aang stepped up onto the edge of the tower, looking around for his next target. The village was filled with chaos by now with people running around screaming and others blasting fire in various directions. Going for the guard towers right away seemed like a bad idea, now. He needed to prevent people from getting hurt. He jumped out of the guard tower and used his glider to glide safely to the ground. A quick blast of air protected a fleeing family from one of the guards on the street trying to prevent their escape. "Mina!" He yelled, looking around for the fire bender. "I need your help!" If they wanted this to stop, they would have to round up all the fire benders. He wasn't about to kill people so maybe just locking them up somewhere would be good.

Mina, although her hands were full, was never one to ignore a cry of help. A swift kick to the stomach knocked the guard she was fighting down into the snow. He was smart not to get up. Although she fought with the guards, she was surprisingly careful not to seriously harm anyone she attacked. Mina didn't exactly like hurting people, and was more of a nurturing soul than a fighter. Leaping over the cringing Fire Guard, the Firebender chased after Aang on his glider. Down here! What do you need?! she yelled up at the orange figure.

"We need to get all of the guards in one spot!" Aang yelled before he was nearly sent flying away but a sudden blast of fire from his right. His glider barely managed to avoid being singed as he flew a bit closer to the ground. "Round them up somehow. If we can't take the people somewhere else, we just need to take the guards away and give them their home back!" With that, he landed and began running along side her instead of flying. "Have any ideas how we can do that?" It wasn't like he had any ropes on his body at the moment. Maybe just knock them all out but how to stop them from fire bending at that point? Killing was simply out of the question.

Mina had a plan formed almost automatically. A golden flame appeared in her hands as she ran. Aang wouldn't need to worry. She already had an idea. As she ran through the city, parts of the flames leaped from her hands and landed at several guards' feet, quickly spreading and driving then to the center of the town. Have Toph make a pit in the center of the town! Mina instructed the Airbender above her. The only thing they needed was a way to cushion the fall.

Aang nodded and quickly took to the air again, flying around in search of the Earth Bender. When he finally found her, he quickly landed alongside her and sent a firebender flying away with a swipe of air. "Toph!" He said quickly, trying to speak over the yelling and the wailing of a siren. "We need your help! You need to make a large pit in the center of the village!"

"Understood." Toph replied to Aang, then headed to a spot where she could 'oversee' her pit formation.

She started by finding old fault lines in the ground and weakening those in the central town square while transferring the leeched strength to the rest. Then all she needed to do was set up a strong vibration that would cause the ground to fall away in the weakened location.

And that was very easy - a Earth-Bending powered stamp should do it.

History: Born to what used to be the Southern Water Tribe, Teiru inherited the ability to Water Bend. His parents became fearful for him - and urged him to hide the bending ability, as they remembered the raids the Fire Nation used to 'remove' the Tribe benders during the war.

It worked - until he was 7, when the only other bender to avoid capture was placed as healer to their camp - Katara. Katara drafted him as her aid - to prevent him from being taken away from those he knew.

He picked up the healing arts from observing Katara at work.

Katara discovered his bending as he tried to heal one of his siblings after an accident. Though she should have reported it to the authorities - she instead took him under her wing and taught him in secret.

She was found out and took the full responsibility for the whole idea. No-one knows what happened to Katara as she wasn't seen again.

Personality: Very timid, but very loyal to those he views as friends. He also doesn't believe in violence.

Element: Water (skilled healer)

Appearance: Short cropped black hair with blue eyes.

Side: Neutral (due to his non-violent views)

Pets: None

Other: He blames himself for Katara's disappearance.]

Mina's plan was shaping up just fine. She succeeded in rounding up any fire guards, and kept them in check with a fire "whip" she had created. Although she never hurt any of them, the threat was real. Once she had herded the bunch of guards on Toph's trap, the woman nodded. A ring of golden fire circled the captives as Mina had a chance to settle down and wrap up her plan. This was all going perfect. Why hadn't she ever been brave enough to do this in the past?

Toph could tell that a large group was being herded towards her 'pit'. From the sounds of the footfalls, it was the booted feet of the guards.

The soft crackle of fire also indicated who was doing the herding. Mina.

Slipping around to where Mina stood, Toph stayed in the shadows cast by the fire ring. She wasn't about to let herself be seen - after all she was meant to be dead.

The Mine's Shadow..... has a ring to it. Though not as catchy as my old arena name of The Blind Bandit. Toph thought, thinking that she'd need an alias if Aang kept liberating the work camps in fast raids.

"Say when and how deep." She told Mina, referring to the fact she could make the trap bigger if need be.

((Accepted.))

Aang landed on the roof of a nearby building to watch the herding of the fire benders into the pit. Surprisingly, it worked quite well. Usually these sort of plans didn't work that well. But most of the fire benders were in the pit now, leaving behind only a few stragglers. Well, as long as those two were occupied with the main group, he could start to gather the others. Quickly, he jumped to the ground and began running through the streets, searching for the leftover fire benders. "Hey! If there are any guards left around, I'm here to stop you! So just come out!"

I need a wall. Eight feet high around the guards. Mina answered. She was afraid a pit would injure the guards. Although they were horrible people, guards were still people. Pacing near the flames she had created, Mina waited for a few stragglers before turning to Toph. Alright, any time now Toph! she declared.

Toph nodded and immediately got to work at Mina's signal.

"One eight-foot wall coming right up." Toph confirmed and with a quick upward motion of her arms, the already primed Earth responded.

The centre of the square had been converted into a slightly irregular tower-like building that was ringed by orange fire.

Hopefully that would keep the guards contained.

---

Teiru had been working in the 'infirmary' - technically a low rectangular building that wasn't being used for anything else - dealing with the cave-in injuries when the alarm had started ringing.

Not wanting to get involved in the trouble, he'd kept his head down and did the best he could for the injured.

Of course, his best wasn't good enough to avoid the trouble for long.

Some of the Fire guards that had been supervising the work gang during the cave-in and aftermath required treatment. Even though he'd very politely and respectfully requested they take it easy for a few days, they were too headstrong and stubborn to ignore a call to arms for long.

Especially when it sounded like someone was actually challenging them to come out.... all Teiru could do was hide in the corner as the small group of guards burst out of the building at Aang's call.

Aang gripped his staff tightly as a group of guards ran out of a building nearby. A quick gesture created a ball of air beneath him, which he quickly scootered off, towards the pit. At the blatant show of air bending, several of the guards yelled out in shock. Which was, of course, expected. After all, the air benders had been killed over a hundred years ago. It was like seeing a ghost. "Come on!" He yelled, looking back at the fire benders. "Catch me if you can!"
