Pearl had been picking at her 'shirt' for a few minutes now. She had tried to eat the bottom, but she couldn't swallow it. It didn't taste good anyway. Now she was bored. She wanted to go outside! Taking in a deep breath, she released a loud wail, followed by another one. Why did the landfolk lock her away like this?

[Narath]

James was busy discussing with his first mate about supplies, when a crewman came up to them.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I believe that the mermaid wants a bit of company or something." He said. "Me and some of the lads tried to open the door for her, but it's locked."

"She just wants out is all." The captain replied briskly. "And no one, not even me, shall be giving her that kind of company. Is that understood?"

"Yes. Of course." Said the crewman nervously. "It was just the way she was calling sir. Sorry."

And with that, he hurried off. James let loose a sigh, and wrapped things up with the first mate before entering his cabin, making sure the mermaid did not get out while he entered. She was not leaving until she had pants.

"James!" Pearl cried, seeing the light shift in as the door opened. She made a wild lunged for the door, trying desperately to force her way out of the small crack. She could smell the salt, hear the faint slapping of waves and a silver of blue sky. "James cry!" She scolded him as she was pushed back, why didn't he understand that she wanted out?

[Narath]

"No, no, no, no." James said, pushing her back gently. "Not yet. Pants first."

He held up the pants again to her.

"Pants, and then outside." He said, pointing to the pants and then the door.

Pearl blinked, looking at the fabric called 'pant'. Somehow it was connected to door. "Pant first?" She asked curiously, sitting down to let him know she had his attention.

[Narath]

"Yes." James said with a smile and a nod. "Pants, then outside."

James held out the pants low in front of him, them mimicked stepping in them, before motioning for her to do so.

Pearl took the pants slowly, then dropped them on the floor. She tried to mimic Jame's actions but she didn't seem to know her feet where suppose to go through the holes. After trying for a little bit, she was getting frustrated and was on the verge of tears again.

[Narath]

Seeing that she was about to cry, James walked up to her, and gave her a comforting hug.

"Don't worry, it's alright." He said, in a gentle whisper. "No cry."

"Pearl cry." Pearl shook her head, pearls plopping down to the ground. She wanted to go outside! "Pearl..." She pointed a shaky hand to the door, not knowing what it was called, only knowing that it lead out.

[Narath]

"Pearl will go outside." James said backing off a bit. "Here, I'll help you."

James knelt down, trying to keep his eyes from wandering up, and positioned the pants on the floor so she could step in them easier. He then took one of her slender legs, and gently guided it to it's corresponding hole. While he did so, he realized how soft and smooth her shapely legs were.

Pearl obediently went along with what the male land folk made her do. It wasn't very fun or comfortable, but he promised to let her outside.

[Narath]

Once both of the mermaid's legs were in the pants , James lifted them up, and belted them around her waist.

"Now outside Pearl." He said with a smile as he took her hand.

Pearl took the male landfolk's hand. She used him as a support, leaning against him so she wouldn't fall. "Outside?" She asked.

[Narath]

"Yes, outside." James replied, moving her towards the door.

Now that she was clothed, it would now be fine to go out there. The men would be leering at Pearl less now, and probably wouldn't try to do anything bad to her.

Pearl raced ahead, feet hammering loudly against the floor.

[Narath]

James was yanked by her sudden burst of speed, and nearly fell over. When they got to the door, James opened it up so that she could step out.

"Is Pearl happy?" He asked.

[Narath]

((OOC: Bump))

Pearl laughed, breathing in the fresh air. She let go of James and clapped her hand in delight. A seagull cried over the ship, it's wings spread wide open. Pearl watched it in wonder for a moment, before letting out a laugh, and spreading her arms open to follow the seagull. She halted to a stop as the reached the tail of the ship, watching the bird fly away.

[Narath]

James laughed a bit at the mermaid's enthusiasm for the bird, slowly trailing behind her as she ran. He was mostly keeping an eye on his men to make sure they didn't do anything they might regret... And the other one looking out for his sister.

"Are you happy now?" James asked once he caught up to the mermaid.

[mipuppy1]

"Happy?" Pearl turned around and asked confused. Hearing the waves slap on the ship, she ran to the railing and looked down. "Happy...?" She asked the waves forlornly.

[Narath]

"Happy." James said, making an exaggerated smile, and pointing at it.

"Happy." He repeated with a slight laugh.

Maybe teaching her wouldn't be such a chore after all.

Her eyes got misty as she continued watching the waves dance. "Ha...ppy..." She repeated. Then she lifted a leg over the rail and started to lift another.

[Narath]

"Hey, wait." James said, taking a hold of one of her arms. "You aren't leaving us, are you?"

The captain looked at her with pleading eyes, hoping that she would not leave. At least not yet. He wanted to learn from her, to learn about her, to learn more about the sea. He wanted to teach her about people, and their ways, and about himself. One rarely saw a mermaid, let alone talk to one, or interact with one in such a way, and he didn't want it to end.

"Please, stay."

Pearl batted away his hand, afraid he was attacking. When he didn't didn't do anything she turned to him curiously. "Stay?" Pearl asked, loosely clutching the rail. She hesitated for a little while before beginning to lift her leg back over the rail. Before she could however a strong gust of wind sent her over the rail. The last thing she saw was a female landfolk yelling and making a wild grab for her.

She fell, her mouth open in a surprised silent scream for a little while. She watched the landfolk named James turn into a tiny spot as she hit the crashing waves. A tingling sensation told her she had a tail again before she felt a sharp pain at her side. Blue topaz spilled out, falling deep into the sea. More sharks were drawn the to smell of the oversized fish's blood.

 

"Are you crazy?! There are sharks down there!" Heather screeched, before rasing her hand and striking her idiot older brother's cheek.
