Lorf

Science classroom

Lorf ran back to the class room. How could i have forgotten my egg? He thought. He couldn't believe it. Maybe he should have left his egg in his room after all. He stopped right outside the class room door. He heard voices talking. Class definitely started Lorf thought. Maybe he could try to get to a seat without anyone noticing. That wont work. He was taller than most of the other students, so they would definitely notice him. He put a scaly red hand on the door. Well, there was nothing he could do. He opened the door hoping the teacher wouldn't get too angry. "I'm sorry I'm late" Lorf said after he opened the door.

Silmarwen, Student

Location: Courtyard --> Room --> Science Class

Silmarwen continued to jog by Cassie's side. It was only when she took a good look at Cassie during the silence when she realized that the Icari was struggling with the jogging activity. She did not say another word that may urge Cassie to speak. Silmarwen understood that the Icari would need to spare her breath for the jog. Meanwhile, the run was a simple task for the Fire Elf, but she chose to keep a modest pace.

A group of students fell over and the loud bell rang once again as Silmarwen jogged past them. As soon as Master Burung announced the end of gym class, she resolved to retrieve some snacks from the room for Cassie before science class. Just as she was about to take off, the sound of giggles from a group of senior students distracted her. Oh, how she missed her friends back at home! She would miss being silly around them. Here in the Academy, it was a must to behave well, as she was representing her race. Shaking off the thought, she picked up her satchel and began to sprint to the room. She wanted to get the biscuits for Cassie but she wanted to be on time for science class as well.

Arriving in the room, she headed over to her dresser, pulled out a tin container, and made for the door in one quick and continuous movement. As she reached to open the door, the reddish brown egg in its nest shifted. In surprise, Silmarwen stopped in her tracks. She walked over to the egg and touched it. Perhaps it was about to hatch? She would be late for class if she lingered in the room any longer. Sighing, she let go of the egg and walked away from it. After taking one last look at the egg, Silmarwen gently closed the door and hurried to science class.

Lorf was standing by the entrance to the classroom when Silmarwen came running down the hallway. She positioned herself behind him as he apologized for his tardiness. "I apologize for being tardy as well," Silmarwen added after Lorf. Late on the first day! She was about to go on berating herself mentally for being late when she noticed that the teacher was an elf. What a pleasant surprise! The sight of a distant kin was always welcome. Other Elven races were the only races that Fire Elves truly trusted now, unaware of whatever role their distant relatives have played in the war. Fire Elves believed that all Elves were purely benevolent up to the present. Isolation in their faraway desert city did little to help in updating their facts. Examining the teacher, Silmarwen could not quite identify what kind of elf she was.

The two 'late' students having apologised, Beriiel saw no reason to make a fuss - mainly as she hadn't really started the lesson.

"That's quite alright - you only missed the introductions. Please take a seat."

She said with a smile, she waited for the students to seat themselves.

"If there are no other questions or concerns that I can address, then we should begin."

Beriiel paused again to allow other questions - hopefully ones related to the subject - to be asked. She was also prepared for the name question to be asked by those that missed it.

Though it was possible that her name would be written next to the class on the timetable - even if Myst's wasn't.

Soria

Courtyard -> Science

Shoot. Where was Science class again? Soria couldn't remember the locations of her classes half of the time and it often caused her to be late or taking her seat just as the lessons started. Hurrying to grab her bag as the bell finished ringing, the young witch figured she should follow the other students but, what if they were going to an entirely different class? So many pupils; not all could fit in one classroom at the same time.

Fidgeting where she stood, attempting to make a decision on who she should follow. Was that student going to Science or was it the student walking over there? Oh, she didn't know! Pressing her lips into a thin line, she made a sound of complaint and finally started after a random being.

Not wanting to be mistaken for some sort of creeper, Soria kept a faint distance and appeared disinterested. However, she lost track of the student and began to look around. What classrooms were nearby? Maybe should could map out the rooms based on what was next to her? No. She was hopeless at that sort of thing.

Oh!

I remember now! The hallways were almost completely deserted at this point and she started off at a jog, legs grumbling in complaint and lungs making a protest.

Finally, she reached the proper doorway and skidded to a halt, overshooting the room a little. Lorf and an elven girl were approaching as well, glimpsed briefly by the witch before she eased the door open and slipped into the room. Doing her best to keep her breathing quiet, she slunk over to a seat towards the middle-back and slumped into the chair with a soft sigh. Made it!

Then the female Elf and Lorf entered a moment later, the Shargonac apologizing for arriving late. He should have just remained silent, same with the Elf girl. Less attention drawn to them if they wanted to avoid embarrassment. Besides, what if the new instructor had had her back facing the doorway? Soria, for certain, wouldn't have called attention to herself; less likely to get in trouble that way!

"I, uh, didn't catch your name, Miss...." Soria had lifted her hand at the teacher's last prompting for questions or comments. Faintly, she shifted in her seat, aware that she might appear ignorant or absentminded by any student who hadn't noticed her last second arrival.

How boring... Kaius found the science teacher's introduction to be long and unnecessary. It was strange that the teacher was so concise and partial in revelation about herself-- yet that didn't really matter, since it had nothing to do with the subject at hand.

A human- female, he could tell- slid inconspicuously into the seat next to him. She seemed to think that no one could tell that she had come in late. He pointed it out blatantly in his mind- it was quite obvious, although it was a better idea than the two students who had just pronounced their tardiness at the front of the class.

"I, uh, didn't catch your name, Miss...."

He leaned over sideways towards her desk and smirked, saying very softly, "You would have heard it if you were here on time."

Luke

Science

Luke looked around the classroom lazily as the teacher introduced herself. He didn't really know how biology could be taught since there were so many species and anatomical differences between everyone. Maybe they didn't teach biology in this school. Luke started to question why there was even a science class at all. Sure, it was important and some people made a living out of it, but since every hypothesis and theory could have holes punched in them by just a sprinkle of magic, how could science be relevant in this world drowned out by sorcery? It was pretty useless but then again, Luke wasn't really in a position to argue with the authoritive figures in the academy.

Luke's attention was drawn to the ghostly, pale human.... Human? Possibly a subspecies? Maybe not at all. However, his appearance was a striking resemblance to a human minus the pupilless eyes, the runes on his skin and his general, overall look. He was taunting, or at least, talking to the girl who wasn't there before. She could have been late and might have got away with it if she hadn't asked a question, even Luke didn't notice her come in while he was questioning science classes and he was sat pretty close to the chair she chose to sit on. The ghosty student said something which Luke could not make out but Luke sensed a somewhat cold comment. He leaned over towards slightly unnoticeably to get a better idea of what the boy was saying, if he decided to open his mouth again that is.

((Can I assume Luke is somewhat close to where Kaius is?))

[Hard to sneak past an elf - whether they'd let on they knew or not.]

A slight smile crept over Beriiel's face as a hesitant voice asked for her name.

Even if she hadn't noticed movement from the corner of her eye as she'd looked at Myst at the end of her tale, that question did give the student away.

"Beriiel Rhuinae." She supplied, not just for the asker's benefit - but for the ones that had apologised for their lateness as well.

Seeing that everyone was now seated, she began the lesson.

She started with the basics laws of Physics, getting a general feel for the level of proficiency in the class.

James grinned happily as he listened, or didn't listen. Due to the nature of the Wights ethereal ability, physics had been something he'd been taught, a lot. Leaning over to Mizuki he whispered, cheekily, "Why on earth did you climb up to the third floor?" James leaned back on his chair and rested his feet on the desk. He knew that the teacher would likely not appreciate this, but it wasn't like he was going to dirt the table. He also knew that if she were angry that he wasn't paying attention he could safely produce all the laws on the states of matter and the causes of said specific matter.

He paused, he knew that the snow wights had looked into the physics behind their abilities intensely, he wondered whether other races knew that all forms of matter were made up of minuscule sub atomic particles. He paused, what old codger thought of the term atomic? James mentally shrugged, probably the guy who discovered atoms. Stroking his cheek his train of thought continued, why would the level of size of atoms be SUB atomic? James shook his head again, and physically slapped his forehead. James felt the chair he was sitting on shudder, he hadn't been concentrating and got lost in his thoughts.

"Oh bugger," He exclaimed as he slipped through the chair and phased into the floor.

((I'm assuming something like atoms would be fairly unknown in this setting))

(Not sure if Beiirel is teaching the basic basics like particles or basics like gravity. So I'm assuming it's basic basics. I'll change it all if she's teaching basics like gravity and 'an object in motion stays in motion'.)

Sin

Sin shot a silver glare as cold as steel at Al'nivte the moment he called her a demon. Her upper lip was crinkled with only the tiniest sliver of her teeth visible, and her claws dug into the back of her seat. People had died because Azazels were wrongly classed as demons, an entire race made into outcasts because no one wished to accept them. Her friends had missing limbs, lost eyes, scars, because others feared what they couldn't classify. Her sudden silence was due to the extreme hatred and contempt that suddenly flared in her heart, all poured into eyes that seemed to darken into gunmetal.

He didn't stop at racial slurs, either. She raised Mitch from a frail little hatchling into the biggest student dragon. He didn't get that big and strong on genetics alone. The muscles in her arms tensed, body stiff from restraint. She would show this cross between a canary, a kitten and the pure essence of annoying how easily this rock-dwelling demon and a parakeet could rearrange his face to something more appeasing...

Thankfully Felic was there. His words weren't as effective as a pat to the shoulder would have been, but they kept her from pouncing on the Uccello like a pack animal. She kept a hard stone stare on the bird for a long moment until he made his comment on how he was obviously just a parrot squawking for attention. 'A parrot who obviously picked up nothing but curse words. Hell, he can't even think of anything original to say,' She added in her mind as she started him up and down. 'His words are all someone else's. Why am I offended? I should feel sorry for him.' Her angry expression mysteriously turned into a taunting grin, every bit as evil as a fanged smile usually looked. She laughed at him quietly like someone laughs at an animal in a cage at the zoo. Emotionally, to distance herself from anger, she put herself higher than him. To avoid hatred, she turned to subjugating him with pity. I was about then that classes started, and Sin turned her head away from the disruptive Uccello.

Hopefully Sin's tendency to have strong emotions wouldn't floor Felic like a strong tide...

When the teacher began to start the lesson, Sin started blankly while writing down keywords. It was all Nihounese to her. Particles were especially baffling. Was she talking about cells? Like, blood cells and skin cells? That was something she learned about last year during one of the rare moments she paid attention to the old teacher. Was she saying that everything had special cells, like rock cells and tree bark cells? If not, how could anything be that small, and how could a bunch of dust specs with no value somehow cling together to make something that could function a certain way? Especially if they were so small they didn't touch. What kept them from floating away from each other? If everyone was made of little particles that didn't touch... did that mean everyone was a gas?

She was confused, but the concept was interesting. She would just be sure not to share it with her aunt back home who, upon hearing that organs were made of tiny cells, broke out laughing and said that people have too much time on their hands if they can think about something so weird.

~~~
Seamus
Seamus had slipped in with the rest of the students, and taken a random seat in the middle of the room. Somewhere between Kaius and Soria and the front row. An elf was teaching the class, and he was of course disdainful of that. Elves were so stuck up and haughty, how was he to know she didn't hear all this as a child and believed it all up until now with no proof? Plus, some of these concepts sounded ridiculous. Tiny particles that made up a bigger whole, smaller than cells? Too small to ever be seen? If anything in the world was too small to be seen, then it could never be seen no matter how many of them congregated. He leaned on his hand and rubbed at the green patch of algae on his pale cheek. He drew lines on the paper in front of him, making random doodles out of them after a while. He didn't believe things unless they made perfect sense to him, even less if he couldn't detect it with more than one of his five senses.
Speaking of five senses, he was wishing he didn't have to sit in the same room as Kaius. Ironic how one of the few races that he didn't despise could make him the most uncomfortable. For some reason, Phantasms just didn't seem to buffer the smell of soul like others, so Kaius was unconsciously making the animavorous Draug hungry. To a human, it was compatible to being in a room with a man made of warm mashed potatoes, or entirely consisting of steak fresh off the grill. Seamus started to unconsciously doodle cupcakes.
Then the Wight lost control of his body, and phased through the chair into the floor. Seamus snickered, his attention happily diverted to anything but the delicious smell or the lesson.
~~
Tatsuke
The greatest barrier for Tatsuke was the language barrier. But while the common tongue wasn't his best language, he was much better at understanding it than he was speaking it. He attentively kept his eyes on the teacher, taking notes on the harder concepts and writing down words he didn't know so he could study them later that night. Not a doodle was seen on his page, his notes that alternated between alphabetic characters for words he didn't know and Nihounese symbols for concepts he wrote down neatly written across every line. He paid no attention to the Wraith that phased through his seat, or the new teachers that came into the room. The lesson demanded his attention because if he looked away for a moment, he may loose the entire context of what she was saying and become lost for the rest of the lesson.
He diligently raised his hand once he had a question, "What is difference between atom and particle, and how do they stay together if always on move?"
[basic Physics can be practically anything lol, but basics as in further education basics as gravity and motion would be primary level lol.]
Beriiel was aware that some students weren't paying as much attention as they should be, and was mentally debating on possible punishments for them as she continued teaching those that were listening.
She was more than happy to answer the questions that popped up, if only as it proved there were people that wanted to learn. Unlike the one that just fell through his seat.
"An atom is considered the basic unit of matter. A particle is a small fragment - for example, dust."
"As for how they 'stick' together - 'inter-atomic interactions' occur. Mostly similar to how the opposite poles on a magnet attract." She used that question and answer to move into more detail on those interactions. This time accompanied by diagrams to aid in illustrating the explanations.
[And so tempting to make Beriiel's punishment the same as one of my lecturers - he'd spray sleeping students with water xd.png But that would really not be in keeping with a serious 'elven' nature.]
Lorf
Science
Lorf sat in a seat a few seats away from the griffon like creature. He wanted to find out his name, but he also didn't want to sit right next to him, or he may be stuck next to him the rest of the year. That didn't appeal to him very well. He payed attention to the teacher Beriiel somewhat. He had learn some science from passing travelers, and parts of it seemed very strange. Lorf didn't exactly know what was basic, but he knew some of the stuff being taught now, so he didn't need to pay full attention. He looked around the room. He noticed he wasn't too far from the wight he'd seen yesterday. As he looked, the wight slipped through the chair. That was carless Lorf thought. He looked forward again as Beriiel answered a question. I'm glad she didn't punish us.
As the bell rang Deja quickly grabbed his bag and, nodding at Lorf, walked off down towards the science classroom. As he walked Deja stopped several times to look out a window or observe an ant for a moment, or work a bit more on communicating with his hatchling, so the end result was him slipping into class right before it started. Sighing Deja's gaze drifted a bit as the teacher introduced herself, but he focused a bit more as her topic shifted to general sciencey stuff. Since phoenixes were always traveling and moving Deja knew only what he was interested in, that was how phoenix education worked. If you were interested in something you found out more about it. In general it was effective, phoenix young would learn what they needed to know to survive, the rest was very laid-back, but this left huge gaps in knowledge. Needless to say Deja would have some catching up todo if he wanted to get anywhere near a good grade.
Devon
Headmaster's Office
They felt the Headmaster before they saw him. Devon was outwardly calm. Inside, being both human and reptilian, Devon felt her hair raise and her blood warm. Sya looked like he was forcing himself to stay where he was. While the tiny tank Iris stepped in front of Sya and Rory seemed confused on how he should respond. She gave a nod before following the Headmaster to his office. Contemplating the Headmaster as they went. Devon was not sure what to think of the Headmaster. He was there when he was needed, clearly watching things from his office when he wasn't. This unsettled Devon, yet made her feel safer all at the same time. Devon didn't really like the idea of being spied upon. However it seemed as though it was for the good of the school, so Devon kept her thoughts on the subject to herself. If she thought otherwise, Devon would be the first to say something. True, she didn't know much about the man. He most likely cultivated this image as carefully as she crafted song for reasons that were his own. Everyone had their secrets after all. Devon was no exception to that. Still she couldn't help questioning those reasons. Devon was taught to learn to understand why someone behaved the way they did. From leaders of men to children, no matter their background. It helped her as a Warrior to understand her opponent, as well as help her read her audience when she performed as a Bard for them. Then again, maybe she was over thinking it.
Once they were inside, Devon had a hard time trying not to look around. She would never touch anything in here, but she'd never been here before. To distract herself, Devon reached inside one of the many pockets of her rucksack, pulled out the magically sealed letter, and handed it over to Headmaster Kaio. Devon knew what it said, she was there when her Wisdom Keepers and Sya's parents discussed it. Syasurru had been off playing guest to Devon's people, providing them with a distraction from the most recent events. Feeling Rory bump his head against her free hand, Devon gently scratched him behind his ears as she spoke, "My people sent runners ahead to inform you of our late arrival... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they either got lost, or are really late." It was a joke. A bad one at that. The runner that was sent here had super speed, and Devon herself had planted the course inthe runner's mind to keep her from getting lost. "This should explain everything, but I was told to give you any information you asked for that may not have been included." Devon left out what she surmised happened. She did not want to think about that. She knew the Headmaster wouldn't have misplaced something so important, but part of her hoped he would say something like, 'Oh silly me. I think I have it somewhere around here.... Ha! Here it is! So sorry about that. Now off to class with you!'
Syasurru
Headmaster's Office
Yesh this guy gives me the creepy crawlies, Sya thought to himself as he followed the others up the stairs. Saysurru looked at the stoic Devon and wondered how she could keep her cool around the Headmaster. He'd rather be anywhere in the world, including boring class, if it meant he didn't have to be near the Headmaster. Not that he wasn't used to being around beings as powerful. He was a Prince after all. He simply wasn't the biggest fan of authority figures either. Sya liked doing what he wanted when he wanted. Not sit around doing what others wanted of him. But noooooo. He was a Prince and must learn to live up to his station according to his Father...
His selfish thoughts were interrupted by Devon explaining the letter she held. Nearly wincing at her joke. Sya smiled inwardly as her thought, She must be more nervous than I thought. Devon rarely gave away clues to what was going on inside her, so to Sya this was a prized gem of knowledge. He'd not been there for that meeting. He had decided his talents were better suited to being a distraction, so he'd mostly hung out with Devon's friends playing guest. It didn't matter to him what the thing said. It could say Brussels sprouts grew out his nose for all he cared, so long as it got them out of this nerve wrecking office as soon as possible. He didn't say anything, Sya wisely kept his mouth shut and let Devon do the talking. If the Headmaster had questions for Sya, he'd answer them. Otherwise he was on his absolute best behavior. No small feat for the mischievous fairy. Instead the tall blonde thought about Felic, Sin and Soria. He wondered if Felic had gone looking for Kitcat. Sya wanted to, yet his Father had other ideas of what the youngest prince should be doing. Why his Father had taken such a sudden interest in his life Sya had no clue. He was the youngest of thirteen siblings, surely one of them was much better suited to the tasks he'd had over the summer. One of the few bright spots had been when he was visiting the seat of Syno power with his Mother after he'd told her what had been going on there. Oh he couldn't wait to tell Tatsuke! It was unlikely that relations between Nihoun and Syno would improve overnight, but it was rather hilarious to watch those idiots babble like children... Oh and when they saw Iris, Sya thought the Emperor was going to loose his mind! It was truly such a magnificent scene, Sya couldn't have planned it better if he tried.
Iris had only doubled in size since she was born, but this was normal for Great Serpents. They matured slowly, their wings not even showing until they hit their thousand year mark. That didn't mean Iris was weak though. No not this girl. She was, as she put it, 'tiny, but mighty'. Anyone who said otherwise would find out the hard way why it was not wise to mess with the little darling. Iris may be a healer, but she could take and dish out the punishment too. Syasurru knew she'd had a good time this summer, she enjoyed all the boring things Sya didn't. He was glad she hadn't been bored when they were at Devon's. She had enjoyed the chance to meet the Naga/Siren woman's people and see their University. Sya had to admit the place was impressive. It almost made him want to pick up a book and read... Almost being the operative word.
Silmarwen, Student
Location: Science Class
Not wanting to draw any more attention for being late, Silmarwen hurried to the first vacant seat that she spotted, which happened to be the one behind the Azazel and beside the Uccello. Though in a hurry, she did so in a graceful manner, barely making any sound as she headed to the desk and as she settled in her seat. One by one, she took out a leather bound notebook, a dark brown quill, and a bottle of black ink and placed them neatly on her desk.
Silmarwen's full attention was on the lecture. The first few pages of her notebook were filled with text and illustrations on the subject. A closer look would reveal a very neat penmanship in Elven writing. Despite the outward appearance of a student who was very eager to learn, Silmarwen was actually rather skeptical. Most of these scientific theories were just as useful and interesting as literary works were to her. Nonetheless, despite her lack of enthusiasm on the topic, she still appreciated the lesson.
Dain leaned back in his chair and pulled his hat down over his eyes. The last science teacher didn't throw such a big fit because Dain was able to use the "I am a vampire it is natural for me to sleep during the day" excuse. Of course, at that moment in time, it was more for show than any achievable reason. This had to do with the loudness of some of the students, and the focus Dain was putting on the teacher, waiting for the moment for a stupid comment. Dain had always been a class clown. He was different than Sya, in the fact that instead of pranks, he would just make unneeded witty comments to the teacher. And, as always, the best ones tend to be on the first day. Instead of raising his hand, Dain's voice piped up above the rest and he directed his question to the teacher. "So, atoms in essence are the very make up of life, than does that mean that us meeting and me being attracted to you are the creation of the lord himself?" Did Dain just do a cheesy pick up line? Yes. To make it better, he even went to the point to lift his hat up slightly, smile and wink like they did in the old western movies.
--- Jolinar/Agatha ---
As the lesson continued, the blended Sesseljae made notes. Physics was not Jolinar's preferred science - but she could at least pay attention, on the off chance she actually understood something.
It seemed that most others had the same opinion of the class - at least if she was reading the other students right.
Although the second student to ask a question of their teacher did catch her off-guard. Especially as it seemed he was one of the ones that wasn't paying any attention.
Did he just... do what I think he did? Or did I hear him wrong?!? Agatha blinked as Jolinar carefully checked the organs responsible for that sense carefully.
Your ears are fine.
Ok, then.... Both were not sure what to make of this, and kind of just stared at the vampire.
--- Beriiel ----
Beriiel wasn't sure whether to take Dain seriously, especially given his laid-back position. But was used to thinking on her feet from her very recent history - not that she was going to think of that now.
"To address the first half your statement - atoms are the building blocks of all matter, living and unliving. To answer the question posed, I'd have to cross into the Philosophical and Theological departments - neither of which are my specialty. I'd suggest asking one more knowledgeable than I in those respects."
A muffled snound could be heard coming from the windowsill where Myst was perched - whether it was a hidden chuckle or a snort of derision was up for debate.
Don't encourage him, Myst....
Kaio took his seat behind his desk, but somehow it seemed out of place. The carapace-clad being didn't look like he should be sitting in a wheeley chair behind a dark wood desk... more like he should be floating between some pillars or something of the sort. His expression remained unreadable as a carved image when Devon pulled the letter out of the bag, and he only made a move once she explained that runners had been sent. Headmaster Kaio then raised a pawlike hand and flicked it in the air, an unseeable force snatching the letter from her grasp and levitating it in the air in front of him. The seal was broken with the slight application of a blue-colored magic glowing around the spell, but it was impossible to tell if he was physically reading the words on the paper. His milky, pupilless eyes said nothing of his actions, and he was still as a cadaver.
His focus seemed to change however. It felt as if he was now looking at the Nagasiren in front of him. "I see. The Academy conveys its condolences to you and your people." He closed his eyes for a moment in respect. His moon-white eyes had becoming such a symbol of Headmaster Kaio it was possible it was even odder than when the odd gaze was in view on his night-black face. His eyes opened back up once more. "We received no letter beforehand, but please do not over think it. Many things could have delayed him. Both of you please, return to your classes. I sense that science is in need of a mature student such as yourself at this moment."
Tatsuke
The moment he heard Dain's voice, Tatsuke knew what was coming. He just knew. Dain would not be legitimately interested in science unless he had an ulterior motive. Either he was going to pun or he was going to pick-up. Unfortunately for the innocent exotic human it was the latter. Hitting on a teacher was one of the many, many, many, things that was alien to him in his hands-off society, and it would probably never stop being taboo to such a conservative young man. He slumped and propped his elbows on the desk, cradling his cheeks in his hands as his head slowly rocked from side to side in complete and utter disbelief.
Soria
Science
Berri - el Runi-? Oh, she was in trouble already....
Someone was whispering to her and she glanced over to see who the source was. "I was here on time," Soria whispered in response. "The teacher just decided to start early...." Focusing on the lesson now, the young witch pulled free a few sheets of paper and a pen from her bag. Miss Rhuniae was discussing about intermolecular forces, ions, metallics, and other basic terms.
For a moment, she was slightly lost when Dain spoke up to flirt with the instructor. "Oh, Sweetie... The only strong attraction you'll ever have is with garlic and sunlight," she quipped at the Vampire.
Felic
Even if Sin didn't physically attack the Uccello, Felic was hit with the emotional force to match. Hatred and contempt slammed against his mind, causing his field of vision to narrow as bile rose into his throat. Lightly, he reached over and touched the Azazel's shoulder, hoping to focus her mind on other things aside from dismembering Al'nivte. Maybe he should have been expecting a strong reaction from Sin; he certainly hadn't been pleased.
Before he fled the room from fear of losing the small breakfast he had, Sin's hatred turned to pity and superiority. This sent his mind into a bit of a whirl. The Empath couldn't read private thoughts and so he wondered just what would cause his friend to feel sympathy at the least. Superiority, he could probably talk himself into stumbling upon the correct reason.
So, instead of fleeing, Felic was able to remain in his seat with his head down, appearing as if he were taking thorough notes rather than waiting for a colossal migraine to ebb away. He didn't blame Sin for it though; he probably had his own hatred mixed in with Sin's. At the least, he did prefer the sensation of pity over intense rage.
Finally, when his migraine eased enough to focus and his hands stopped trembling (kept occupied by moving pencil or stuffed under a thigh to hide such a symptom), he set about to taking actual notes. However, he met trouble in trying to catch up with what was being said. So, Felic sat and listened until he was able to make sense of what was going on.
Science wasn't going to be much fun it seemed....
Devon
Headmaster's Office and Science Class
Devon watched the Headmaster curiously while he looked at the letter she'd given him. Those strange eyes of his made it impossible for her to discern if he was able to see they way most people could, or if the Headmaster possessed some sort of magical sight. Could even be both for all she knew. Devon felt the Headmaster's gaze turned to her as he conveyed his official condolences for her loss and gave a nod of understanding as she replied, "Thank you Sir. I will convey your condolences to my people at my earliest convenience." Devon and Sya exchanged a quick, nervous glance before Devon continued, "We understand. If Kazhadeco is truly late, please inform him of my displeasure when he arrives. It is not like him to get sidetracked on a task given by our Wisdom Keepers, even if it's understandable. Thank you again."
Devon bowed her head respectfully before she turned to lead the party out of the Headmasters office. Devon was not one to hide her suspicions. However, this was one time she could make an exception... For now. Besides that, Devon was eager to get to class and learn. "Looks like you've got competition this year," She chuckled, causing her black hair to shimmer with rainbow colors where the light hit it.
"Nah. This was probably Dain hitting on the teacher with some cheesy line. Not my style. I much prefer to 'help' find an item that has suddenly gone... 'Missing,'" Sya replied with a suggestive grin.
"That was my second guess," Devon groaned as she rolled her eyes.
Rory and Iris just shook their heads. They all knew it was a reference to how Devon, Tatsuke and Sya had met last year. Sya had stolen Devon's clothing while she was giving Rory hunting lessons in the lake when Sya first arrived and magically placed them in Tatsuke's room. Devon knew now the blonde fairy was only trying to be funny. However at the time he missed his mark by a long shot. For one, neither she nor Tatsuke had an appreciation for such pranks. Secondly, but most importantly, he could have gotten himself or someone else hurt. Sya was lucky Devon and Tatsuke were not like some races who might kill first and ask questions later. A situation that could have snowballed, and caused this whole war to pick up where it left off. True, Devon knew she was a little paranoid on that subject, but for good reason. She almost chuckled as she remembered the reaction Sya's parents had when she told them how they'd met. The three of them had a good laugh over it over tea while Sya was helping gather the items they needed for a spell they were working on. They'd talked a lot about the Academy. The students, teachers and so on. Sya's father was specifically interested in his son's education while his mother wanted to know about her son's personal life.
In turn, they answered Devon's questions about their world. Why Sya had been denied access to return to the human world after it was discovered he'd been sneaking through the Veil. Their reasons were sound, even if Sya didn't see it that way. They had the entire realm to think of, not just the needs of their beloved son. Sya's father had confessed that at first he'd hoped Sya would forget about the orphan girl, it wasn't until later the King realized his son could not forget his friend. Despite that, he could not just suddenly go back on his word. He may be King, but he had to think of the greater good. When they first heard of the Academy, Her Majesty had suggested they send Sya in hopes that they could put the whole thing to rest and her son be happy again. Devon wondered what the young prince would say if he knew what she and his parents had discussed. They swore her to secrecy, to which Devon agreed only because they agreed to tell him themselves when school was over.
Once they reached the classroom, Sya, as always, did the gentlemanly thing and opened the door for them just in time to hear Soria's quip to Dain. Devon hid a smile and nodded her thanks as she passed Sya before her emerald eyes focused on the teacher as she said politely, "Excuse me Professor. I apologize for our tardiness. Syasurru and I had just arrived, and needed to meet with the Headmaster before we could join class..."
To Iris and Rory Devon sent, **Why don't you two go find your friends? I'm sure they're as eager as you are to see each other again. Don't worry Iris, I will take notes so good you'll feel like you were here. Now go and have some fun.**
Iris and Rory looked at each other for a moment before Iris replied, **I'd much rather stay here and learn, but it would be good to see the others again. I'll hold you to that promise. Gods know I can't depend on Sya for that. If he'd only apply himself to his studies the way he does to other aspects of his life.**
With that the two dragons left to go find their year mates.
Syasurru
Headmaster's Office to Science Class
Sya felt a pang of sadness for Devon, and bowed his head politely as the Headmaster gave his condolences to the statuesque Naga/Siren woman. Yeah, right. I'll buy that... Completely possible, Sya thought sarcastically to himself as he and Devon briefly made eye contact. He kept his mouth shut on the subject. Sya knew he was only here for support. Perfectly acceptable to the young Prince. He'd rather not be the target of those strange eyes if there was any way on this planet he could avoid them. Nooo, Sya wanted to be anywhere at all except where the Headmaster was. When the Headmaster excused them, Sya gave the Headmaster a cheeky grin and bowed as though he was standing before the King back home before exiting swiftly behind Devon. He was so glad to be out of the Headmaster's office, and was excited to get to class for a change.
They quickly arrived at class, where Sya opened the door for the quartet and snickered at Soria's comment to Dain. Sya gave Felic, Sin and Soria a smile as he took a seat near Soria. He wanted to be in a spot where he wouldn't miss out on any fun, but also close to his friends. When Devon mentioned his name to the professor, Sya gave a nod and pulled out a notebook so he could pretend to take notes. Sya leaned towards Soria and whispered, "So glad I didn't miss that!"
Sya was going to have a hard time keeping his excitement under wraps, and hoped Devon wouldn't alert the others to his plan of tackling the rest of the senior students right after class.
OOC {{I don't know why, but when Sya snickers, I always hear John Billingsley's laugh from The Patriot hehehe.}}
Dain smiled while still faced away from Soria. Normally a vampire probably wouldn't take that so well, but he had gotten used to it by now. He stood abruptly and made his way to Soria. He leaned down next to her ear and said gently, yet remaining loud enough for everyone else to hear, "now Soria dear, I am hurt by your statement. Just because your jealous that my attention isn't on you, doesn't mean you must retaliate in anger." Dain stood and turned back to the teacher. He continued his charade of half ass soothing words to the teacher without missing a beat. "Now Madame Beriiel, I can call you Beriiel right? Let us forget the theological and psychological side of it. How about just you and I go and see just how closely bonded our atoms really are." Dain knew that this was it. He was either going to be beat senseless by every female student in the classroom, or sent to see the headmaster by the teacher. Even if neither of those happened, and for whatever reason the teacher doesn't get angry and kick him out, he was going to stop after that. He knew that one must respect the female gender and to constantly flirt while insinuating sex with a women he just met, was not a way to do that. Dain actually figured that he may have taken it too far, but one cannot remove what had already been said.
James pulled himself out of the floor into a seated position, resting his legs in the stone (is it stone?). He looked over towards the vampire, somewhat bemused.
"I was always told that vampires were meant to be the masters of seduction and could seduce anyone... male or female. You don't seem to be that successful Dain. Are you really afraid of garlic bread? Do they serve it in the cafeteria, I really like garlic bread. Back home the cooks always made it with a couple of extra spices and some medicinal herbs so that we wouldn't all get the horrible breath," James stroked his chin thoughtfully and pulled himself up onto his chair again.
"And if you'd really like to know, the atomic structure of a human isn't as strong as one would expect. While humans are solid, they are not like a rock due to mostly consisting of fluid. The bones are the most compact out of all the atomic arrangements inside the human body. I'm not too sure about vampires, we never really learned about them. I suppose the bonds of your atoms might be weak to the energy from the sun... that's assuming vampires to decompose in the sun," James finished. He had hoped that all his pointless comments about atoms would distract the class from the vampire. While his attempts at seduction were pathetic, James had the odd feeling that he was probably just bored and trying to entertain himself, and it would be wrong for the teacher to send him away, better to punish him by ignoring his attempts at playing class clown and simply continuing with the lesson. James sighed and leaned back on his chair, placing his shoes onto the desk. Turning his head he smiled fondly at Dain.
(James is the best character I've ever played, I just lose myself and somehow I end up with words... reminds me of essay writing)
Silmarwen, Student
Location: Science Class
It has only been an hour or so ago since Silmarwen and Dain became acquainted with each other over breakfast. He had been quite a gentleman and it was Silmarwen's impression of him until spoke up in class just then. She was taken aback with what he had said. It was so sudden. So random. And so bold! In an instant, her surprise turned to amusement and a soft chuckle escaped her lips. Fearing the disapproval of Miss Beriiel, she silenced herself right away, pressing her lips together to suppress the laughter. Miss Beriel's witty response only made it more difficult for her to contain the amusement.
A bit of fooling around, such as this one, was welcome to Silmarwen. Of course, he is simply fooling around, Silmarwen convinced herself. Some students seemed to welcome the break from the serious lesson as well, except Tatsuke who seemed to disapprove this particular distraction. Silmarwen watched and listened as some students reacted, lengthening the distraction. The Wraith chattered candidly as usual, which was another source of amusement for her. On a side note, he seemed to be very knowledgeable on the topic of science.
Most of the activity was happening to her left, obviously because majority of the class was to her left side. For once, she turned to her right and looked at the Uccello beside her. Silmarwen smiled at him, as if to acknowledge his presence. An introduction would have been nice but untimely. Initiating a private conversation during a lesson, even during a brief distraction, was not something that she was likely to do. She turned back to the teacher and wondered how she would deal with the tease.
Soria
A smirk crossed the young witch's face, made dark by the faint shadows in her eyes. "Tsk, Baby-Face! I'm just green with envy but, not about where your weak flattery is aimed at. Oh no!" Before Dain turned away to face the teacher again, Soria lightly grasped his chin between her thumb and forefinger. "I'm jealous about your soft skin and nicely treated hair of yours! Do you use some kind of organic oil?" Yes, she made a retort hinting at a possibility that Dain's masculinity wasn't very high. She lightly patted him on the cheek then released her gentle grip to sit back in her chair and watched the rest of his flirting unfold.
It wasn't a regular basis but, often enough, that Dain and Soria had their little banter of false flattery. Honestly, it was fun to Soria; she could be loose in some of her morals without threat of regret. Besides, she never said anything truly mean nor was she leaving Dain to believe that she might see him as more than a simple companion. No. While he wasn't the epitome of evil vampires most works of fiction lead people to believe, she just wasn't interested in him like that.
Sya sat near her and she smiled at his remark. "Good. It wouldn't have been as entertaining if it were retold to you. We'll have to catch up better at lunch!" Her voice was hushed but her excitement wasn't a mystery at the sight of the male fairy.
Al'nivte
He certainly had to give the lot of students a bit of credit for petty entertainment. The Uccello leaned back, slightly angled in his seat so he could face the left of the room better. While the start of comebacks were being tossed about, other students filed in and the Fire Elf beside him turned to smile in greeting. While Elves held similarities to humans, Al'nivte did favor most of their talents relating to battle. As she smiled, he grinned in return, the gesture better shown through his four eyes than through his beak.
[Hehe looks like Science class is Comedy class - still have no clue about Teacher's response .... yet ....]
--- Jolinar/Agatha ---
Having - mostly - recovered from the surprise of the vampire's initial flirt, the blended Sesseljae fiddled with her pencil. Mainly to keep her hands occupied - her host was usually working, and it felt wrong to have idle hands.
Though it did seem that the vampire was pushing his luck - even though so far the teacher hadn't seemed that bothered.
---- Beriiel ---
[Just to have something here as a response: and yes her reply can be taken either way.]
Beriiel was saved from an immediate reply to Dain's continuation by the arrival of students that had come from meeting with the head master. A very easy matter to deal with.
She accepted their apology, then turned back to see that other students had joined in - this time teasing the vampire. Though he seemed to not be bothered by it. Now she had to try and get things back on track - as well as answer Dain.
"Why should I be offended about the use of my name?" She said, somewhat off-handedly. Then she addressed James' comments by way of a somewhat oblique answer.
"As for bond strengths between atoms, the best testing for that would be to bring the sun into the room. However that in itself would have logistical problems, though it would help if Myst wasn't running interference to those wavelengths."
At that, the dragon in the window huffed indignantly, a not-so-subtle reminder that she was within earshot. You do realise, mother, Myst stressed the title, that the vampire could take that statement in his own way. She seemed smug as she pointed out the double entendre.
One phrase went 'seeing the world through tinted lenses'. The correct statement for Sin, true for most Azazels of her nation, would have sounded like 'seeing the world through filthy lenses.' She had an underlying rasp to her voice on the average occasion, her snicker had the rough quality of an oddly airy growl. Dain had quite a bit of gall if he was going to flirt with a teacher, yeah? She leaned her elbow on her desk, covering her smile (which could qualify as a crocodile grin with those teeth of hers; the simplest upwards curve of the lip exposed them) with the side of her hand. She laughed the way a grade school child laughs as they hear their classmate get called to the office. Nervous amusement, schadenfreude, interested curiosity.
Sass a teacher back home and you got strung up by your thumbs on a good day. Dain was outright looking for trouble, flirting with a teacher like that. She had to admit, she would never have been able to try something like this. But after the first few lines, nothing happened. She wasn't even addressing him until that last part... It took her a minute to realize it could be taken an innocent way, but as soon as she realized it the fun was gone. The smile, and likewise the amused emotions, dissipated and was replaced with a straight mouth and a dash of confusion. Rhuniae wasn't biting. Not angry, either. Her reaction wasn't over the top at all as she had expected it would have been. Her hand moved to her cheek and she supported her head's weight upon her wrist as she continued to watch with decreasing interest. But hey... better than actual science.
~~~

Seamus was the kind of person who looked for patterns. He was right up there snickering with the class when the vampire unexpectedly began making moves on the teacher, but before a good portion of the class he had cracked the code. Probably because he was looking for it. Dain was trying to get under her skin more than anything, either because he was bored or because he wanted to see how far he could push Rhuniae and get away with it.

Rhuniae on the other hand, was trying to not make an over-the-top reaction. Okay. She was keeping her head in the scenario... playing dumb a little. That was justifiable considering there was an Azazel in the room, possibly other rowdy races who would have started bursting into laughter or otherwise begun causing a ruckus. Even just as a teacher, the one in command in this room, she would want to keep a calm unshakable air. She slipped at the end there, and it got a little chuckle out of him, but it had died down for him a while ago.

He glanced at the clock. Hey! Less than five minutes left! But then again, these are five classroom minutes in discussion, the only kind of minute longer than a Dragon Ball minute.

He looked down at his paper, quickly erasing all the images of cupcakes, cookies and squids he had doodled. Now was no time to get hungry... especially when the stimulant was a classmate who smelled delicious.
