James

Room 53

"You don't have to worry," James said, amused at her concern. "I've hit my head before, the healers said the previous times that it's only minor bruising," James said. He briefly looked over all the equipment that Soria was rapidly placing into her bag. Worried that he might not have it all, James opened up his bag and checked inside, sighing with relief when he saw a considerable amount of supplies, creating a small nest for his egg. He looked up at her. "That's right you’re a witch. My race has always been considered to have magical abilities, with our ice touch and our ethereal abilities. But there have never been any mages," James stood up and walked over to the door. "By the way, the cafeteria is on the floor below us isn't it? What exactly is beneath our hallway?" James asked, looking down at the floor. "I was considering just dropping down, assuming that it would be a shorter trip. It's always weird passing through the floor," James mused.

Twig: Room 28

By the time Twig arrived in his room, his roommate was already asleep. However, the Litteputan didn't feel like resting quite yet. Instead, he ducked under the bed, took off His glider, and began to measure the egg. If he was to traverse the academy easily, and Take the egg with him, He'd need to craft a suitable carrier for the egg. For now, he'd have to deconstruct the glider to make it, but Twig would be able to remedy that once he acquired more suitable materials.

After a few hours, Twig leaned back to admire his work. The harness held the egg in place firmly, and used cloth from the Glider's wings to soften any impacts from the frame.

"Ah, tis done," Twig yawned to himself, before leaning back and closing his eyes.

Daytime

What time was it?

What Time Was It!

Twig jolted awake, nearly hitting his head on the bottom of the bed. Had he overslept? He slid out from under the bed, and climbed up to the window. The sun didn't look to be too high, so that was good. Twig then hopped back down, retrieved the egg and harness from under the bed, and headed out the door. Following the sounds of activity, Twig made his way to the mess hall. The stairs were no problem this time around, as he simply hopped down them one step at a time.

At the mess hall, Twig grabbed a grape for himself, and began searching for a place to sit.

"I'm a phoenix."

That got his attention. Twig made his way over to the table, tossed up a hook, and climbed up.

"Room for one more?" he asked, before sitting down.

Silmarwen, Student

Location: Cafeteria

Silmarwen took her time as she headed towards the dining hall. With Gym being the first class for the day, she wore a red tunic with loose medium-length sleeves, a pair of khaki trousers, and a pair of leather knee boots. It was the first time that she wore something other than a dress this decade. In fact, she only bought these garments from a clothes shop in a town along the way while journeying to the academy. All the same, she was unsure if she dressed appropriately enough.

Arriving in the dining hall, she made her way to the counters like most of the students who had just arrived. She picked up a plate and a small bowl and got herself a slice of bread and a piece of cooked meat. After filling her small bowl with various berries, she headed to the table in the far corner of the hall, only to realize that someone was already there. Regardless of his presence, Silmarwen sat across him and popped a berry in her mouth. "Good morning," she greeted impassively. Glancing at his features, she judged that he was a human. She felt a slight displeasure but shrugged it off. After all, she simply dined with him at the moment. There was no harm in that. She pulled out a small book from her satchel and turned to the page that had been bookmarked. The book opened to the page that began the segment about the various races of this world. She started to read, gracefully taking a bite of her bread and meat now and then.

Tatsuke was caught off-guard by the sudden arrival of a stranger, broken out of his thoughts by the sound of her voice. "Good morning," he greeted back, accompanied by a polite smile and the slight bow of his head. He thought for sure if anyone came up to him it would have been one of the senior students. Instead it was one of the new students, so that must mean she wanted to ask him something... right?

It didn't seem so. After she studied his features, she dove right into her book without a further word. He found it slightly odd that she would approach him then just totally disregard the fact she was sitting with him, but it wasn't something to over think. Which was something he was always guilty of. He shrugged his pack off of his back and rummaged through it until he found his sketchbook. While he would have been content to make a tower out of the red and black checker pieces that had been claimed in his game with Dain, if there was someone there it didn't feel right to look like you were doing nothing. It made you look like you were trying to warrant attention, which he wasn't, and he didn't want to seem like he was begging anyone to offer conversation or play a game with him. Even though he wanted to play a game or have a conversation.

Social etiquette is hard, damn it!

He took a hearty bite of his rice, and straightened his back so that he wasn't slouching. Slouching is a no-no when ladies are watching. Wait, was this even about ladies? It certainly didn't matter at all to him that Silmarwen was a lady! He wasn't checking her out or being sexist! So should he allow himself to slouch? No, not after he had straightened himself up! Oh god did he look intimidating now? Like a jerk trying to look all powerful? He wasn't! Trying to look powerful, that is. Well, he wasn't very powerful either, but that's another story. He ended up slouching again anyway after he leaned down to draw something.

On the outside, he just looked like he was drawing a popular Nihounese character and taking an occasional bite of rice. On the inside, there were alarms going off and children screaming and papers flying and everything was on fire. But the lovely sketch of an elemental mouse on the shoulder of a teenage boy didn't give away his unnecessary internal panic at all. He just looked focused.

Felic and Sorge

Room 66 -> Cafeteria

As the door opened a couple minutes later to reveal a ready-to-go Azazel and her dragon, Felic smiled in greeting. "Morning Sin, Mitch. How'd you guys sleep?" he asked, stepping aside so the pair could walk out into the hallway once Sin had her bag if she chose to bring it today. No matter how hard Mitch tried to display otherwise, Felic knew that the dragon was not apathetic and the Empath would sometimes poke light fun at the wyvern for such a case. "Did a female tri-horn catch your eye over the summer, Mitch? You seem a bit fluttery in spirit." Like now; just a small poke using possible ideas that could cause Mitch to show favor towards something.

"Let's not jest yet this morning; I'm still sleepy to comprehend most humor that you two come up with," Sorge stated, her mood light nevertheless and still partaking in any of the fun that was sure to arise within this group. As if to emphasize her stance, the female turned and began walking towards the cafeteria without them.

Felic huffed faintly dramatically, getting Sorge to pause and glance back. "You're rather impatient this morning. Have a few flames on your heels?"

She snorted and shifted her wings. "It doesn't matter. I'm sure Sin is wanting some breakfast. Let's not rob her and Mitch of the chance before class begins."

Nodding, Felic motioned a "calm down, calm down" gesture before looking back at Sin and her dragon. "Another late arrival showed up this morning; a girl named Mitzuki. Do you recall seeing her name on the attendance sheet yesterday?" He never saw the list of incoming students so he didn't know how many more were left to arrive if they ever did.

Soria

Room 53 -> Cafeteria

Soria studied the Wraith for a few moments, trying to see if any of his features would betray any lie he might have been telling about his condition. Finally, "Well, if you're certain..." Letting the matter about his bruised head go, the young witch focused on James's following comments. "Really? Do you have any other abilities or is it just the two? Having ethereal capabilities must be cool to have. I wonder if there are any spells I can learn that give me similar abilities for at least a short time? They'd need to be music based though..."

Shaking her head, she faintly waved the notion away. For a moment, the idea intrigued her and then it somewhat frightened her. What if she got stuck in a wall? Could that kill her? Quickly pushing the thoughts out of her frightened mind, Soria took a moment to think on their present location and what rested beneath them. "Ummm... The cafeteria is on the floor under us but, directly below are classrooms and the hallway they line. The cafeteria would be..." She paused to turn left then right, examining which way the numbers rose and fell. "It'd be that way." She pointed to their left, following the decreasing numbers.

Al'nivte

Cafeteria -> Adjacent hallway

Should he interact with someone? The thought was a flickering one that vanished as quickly as it had come. Through the hum of multiple conversations, he heard someone declare themselves as a Phoenix. Oh the grin that this brought to his beak. All four eyes narrowed in a mixture of pleasure and waiting mischief. Gryphons and Phoenixes were as ancient as Dragons and Unicorns; all four groups had been offended in equal levels. Perhaps he could obtain the aid of this Phoenix student in making the human things break?

But of course, there was still the matter of working around the rivalry that stood between the two ancient avians. Al'nivte remembered the spite some of his Gryphon cousins held when speaking about Phoenixes. So, why wasn't he viewing the Phoenix boy in the same opinion? Simple. Al saw the advantages of having this specific student as his ally. Of course, if the student refused and, instead, chose to be an opponent... Well, all the more fun!

Nonetheless, it would be worth a try? Hmmm.... The boy seemed surrounded by enough people at any rate and Al'nivte would want the Phoenix's undivided attention. He would just have to wait until the rat-sized fairy, sub-human boy, and winged girl were outside of the picture frame. He did have to question, however, why there were so many human looking students? The stench of their weak flesh almost made him gag!

Fine. He was done eating anyways and decided to move on from the cafeteria, if only to get away from the invasion of flesh things! Depositing his dish where designated, he retreated to the hallway. Now where was Gym supposed to be held?

"No, it's fine, do join us." Luke said. He just watched as two new people joined their table. One was a femal Icari, Luke was sure of that, but Luke didn't know what race the other one was. He had pointed ears so Luke assumed he was an elf. Though, he was quite shorter than most elves Luke had met so Luke juggled the possibilty of him being a fairy or a dwarf. Deciding not to bother himself anymore, he took out his manga and started reading it. Luke had grown a fondness for books with darker vibes the past few days and the only book he had on him was 'Jigoku Shoujo'. It was about a little girl who exacted revenge on the people you hated for you and sent their souls to hell. But your end of the bargain meant your soul belonged to hell when you died as well.

In the back of his mind, Luke was glad other people had joined him. In his old school, people called him a freak and a monster. In this academy though, that was no longer the case.

Cassie: Student

Cafeteria

"Thank you." Murmured Cassie, turning to look at the little hatchling that was scarfing down the contents of Deja's plate. "I'm an Icari. Cassie. Of the Sunsoar family."

Cassie still felt sick to the stomach, so she offered her plate forward to the dragon.

"He can have some of mine if he wants. I'm not that hungry." Curious, she looked at the little dragon, and wondered how long it would be before hers would hatch. Then, hearing a little voice pipe up, she turned to see a Littleputlian joining the group. Seeing as she had just joined, she didn't think it would be polite for her to say that his sitting there was no problem, so she simply smiled at him.

The other boy – Luke was it? – was reading a book, so Cassie decided not to disturb him.

Mizuki: Student

Cafeteria

As Mizuki grabbed her breakfast, she quietly moved to a seat where she wouldn't be much noticed. There, she ate, and planned to prepare for the first class.

While eating, she wondered about how her dragon companion would be. "I hope he's going to be cooperative. Although we Telumni are terrible at magics, I think Golden Wyverns can understand why we couldn't do so.", she thought, as her last few bits of rice go straight into her mouth by her chopsticks. She notices that the time is nearly hitting 9:00 am, so she rushes off for Gym class.

Dain grumbled at Felic's verbal bashing. He knew he messed up and didn't need to be constantly reminded. As Felic was walking away Dain tried to mentally fry a sarcastic remark into Felic's mind. However he failed miserably since he didn't have any sort of talent with the art of telepathy. Dain rolled over stretching, pushing himself up, and eventually standing. Dain headed straight for his room, knowing very sell how bad he looked and could only imagine how bad he smelled. Dain went the back way. He used halls that the new students wouldn't know about and stairs that weren't registered as 'main' stairs. When he finally made it to his room, he immediately went to the restroom to strip and shower. When he finished he grabbed a change of clothes, consisting of combat boots, khakis, and a fairly tight t-shirt. All of his outfit was black. He left his weapons on his bed since he wasn't going to combat class, but rather gym.

As Dain was leaving his room, he whistled for Luz once more and was relieved when she answered. Luz jumped down from her perch in the room and landed on Dain's head. Being no larger than a small cat, Luz had the ability to use his hair as a bed. This made for a comedic look, as if Luz was some kind of crown. The two walked silently not needing to speak because of how well they know each other. Luz, surprisingly enough, was the first one to speak up, stating that she will grab her food, and then go sit, giving time to Dain to go apologize to Tatsuke. And that is exactly what she did. Dain also did his part of the plan, making his way to the back table where the checkers game is. Dain couldn't beat Tatsuke in any sort of game, yet he had the best chance with checkers. Dain sat without saying a word and simply made his move on the checker board. He moved the piece loud enough so Tatsuke could hear.

Silmarwen, Student

Location: Cafeteria

Silmarwen noticed how Tatsuke seemed to shift in his chair a few times, but she went on reading as if she had noticed nothing. Her eyes were on the page, looking at word after word. However, for at least a whole minute, she was not reading at all. She thought about how her sitting there might have been disconcerting for him, which she resented. There were a lot of possibilities. Perhaps he intended to be alone. Maybe he thought that she was disturbingly unattractive. Or perhaps he disliked elves. Or maybe what she had done was inappropriate or rude according to the culture of his people. Assuming may lead to confusion and asking may seem too confrontational, especially for Silmarwen who was usually straight to the point when it came to conversations.

As Tatsuke began to draw, Silmarwen was finally able to read comfortably and without guilt. He seemed at ease now. As students poured into the dining hall, Silmarwen instinctively looked towards the direction of the entrance, when a small hatchling eating food off a plate on top of a table caught her eye. New students such as herself sat around the table and it only meant that it belonged to one of them. Someone's egg hatched so soon. Silmarwen could not help but feel envious. She wanted to be the first to hatch an egg. No longer in the mood to read, she gently closed her book and set it on the table. She turned to Tatsuke to ask him a question but no sound came from her parted lips. She held back from speaking as another student approached and moved a piece on the checkerboard nearby.

"Sure thing!" Deja said as a small elfish student made their way to the table, "My name is Deja." Glancing over at James as he pulled out a book, a manga, Deja thought to himself as he studied the cover. Hmmm looks interesting enough. Might have to borrow it. As the hatchling jumped off his shoulder again Deja quickly rewound the conversation, The Icari had introduced herself and offered some of her food for the hatchling, "Some." Deja said as the dragon helped himself to the food, "Thank you on behalf of this guy." Deja said as he turned back to Cassie and picked up the hatchling, who had already eaten almost half of the food on the plate. "What time is it?" Deja asked the table in general as he stoked the dragon, who began to make quiet, purring type noises.

Lorf:Student

Hallway

Cafeteria

Outside Cafeteria

Lorf walked down to the cafeteria. Right out side it was a griffon like creature. A late student? he wondered. He paused for half a heart beat to examine him, then continued into the cafeteria. He Took a plate and filled it with crickets and spiders, and ate it in to mouthfuls. His race didn't take much time to eat, and the size of their mouths allowed them to eat a lot in one mouthful. He noticed a few other new students too. He decide that there was no point in staying here, so he walked out of the cafeteria again and this time noticed that the griffon looked slightly confused. Well, now would be as good a time as any to learn something about him. "Hello, my name is Lorf. Do you need help finding something?" he asked the griffon. He had managed to memorize where everything was yesterday, even though it had been hard.

Al'nivte

Outside the Cafeteria

Clearly, this lizard boy wasn't able to read Al's expressions correctly because the Uccello was not lost nor confused. "No...." His only response before he started walking; he had remembered the schedule sheet mentioning that Gym was to be held outside in the courtyard. Perhaps he should return to his room and grab that paper? That would probably be best as he could also leave his coat behind so that it wouldn't get in his way later.

On second thought....

Al'nivte suddenly pivoted on his heel, making a 180* to face Lizard-Boy again. "Lorf, was it? Well, Lorf-y, maybe there is one thing you could help me with...." The male stepped towards the Shargonac, lightly tapping his beak. "You smell young, not yet fully mature... All the susceptible to mischief. No?" Grinning, Al folded one arm across his chest, using it to rest the elbow of his other arm and lean his jaw on his closed fist. "What's your opinion about some of the students?"

Talking to Al'nivte

Mischief? No, i don't cause mischief, i just like to learn Lorf thought, but what could be the harm in helping someone else learn? "The other students?" Lorf paused. My opinions? On the Students? he realized that this would not simply be giving available information, but his own thoughts. "Well, the human, i think his name was Tatsuke, he seems like he doesn't like being around people. Like he is scared of something too" Lorf said, remembering how he had lingered back from the new students at first. He himself had been the same, but simply because he hadn't wanted to bother the others. "The Icari, Cassandra, she seems like the opulent kind. The type to shy away from getting messy" Lorf said, "Soria, the human with purple hair, seems to not like people slightly bending rules." Suddenly a thought went through Lorf's head. Something he should have realized earlier. He really knew nothing about the students, he hasn't even known them for a day. He could be feeding the griffon completely false information. But why would that be so bad? Lorf thought. Infact, this could be a good way to learn more of the others and of this griffon like person himself. He continued to see what kind of reaction he could get, "there is also this really annoying prankster dragon. It looks like a night sky, and the thing dumped me in the lake." He hoped he didn't have the wrong impression of the students, but this could be a marvelous chance to learn. A chance to keep himself ahead of predators. Even a chance to get back at that stupid dragon

Relan: Teacher

Magic room

Teacher's Lounge

Relan stretched his blue tinged hand and quietly said "Feoroas Camorsa Shema." At first it seemed to have no effect on the room, but slowly it began to darken. By tomorrow the room would be dark as midnight. He didn't have to say the words out loud, however this spell was tricky and it would be better to be careful with it. His first class wouldn't be until the next day, but it would be better to let the spell take full effect for the best results the next day. Normally he wouldn't have bothered but the first lesson would be important to see how well the new students could use their magical abilities. He walked outside the door and his dragon, Darik, was standing right there.

"Good morning Relan, I didn't think I would find you working so early on a day you aren't teaching" the Nebula dragon said.

"I didn't expect to find you awake in the morning" Relan told his dragon. You use to only be awake at night, like the rest of you species, but now you wake in the mourning because tricking the students is such fun for you Relan thought with a sigh. He didn't bother hiding this thought from the dragon. Darik already knew what he thought of his tricks and taunts. Getting students into trouble merely for a laugh. The nebula dragon changed his whole sleeping pattern for those things. "Did you already find something to eat, or are you here waiting for me to feed you?" Relan said. He started walking to teacher's lounge.

"Is it wrong that occasionally I like to eat food you give me?" Darik said with an attempt at puppy eyes. Relan smiled. To some people, his relationship with Darik might seem somewhat hostile, but it was all in good fun. He didn't remember when they first started this game, but they played every mourning. The dragon seemed to find this all kinds of fun, and it kept him from messing with the students.

They entered the teacher's lounge and got food to eat.

Tatsuke

Lunchroom

Tatsuke was brought back into the real world by the sound of Dain making his move. At this point half of the page was filled with random doodles, some of them famous Nihounese pop culture characters he'd been able to learn all about over the summer, some simple landscapes, and a few of the people he'd seen over the course of his stay at the Academy. But he didn't need that page for the moment anymore. Dain moved exactly how he had wanted him to. Three decisive clicks on the board sounded as he checked three of Dain's red pieces. He dragged the fallen pieces off the table, and placed them in the pile of pieces he had already checked. There were a lot of black and red pieces that had been taken off the board at this point, half of Tatsuke's battalion had been sacrificed to allow him to get into the position he was now, and now more than half of Dain's had been dragged away.

That was war, in any case. You threw your people like checker pieces right into ambushes and obvious traps to allow others to steal the glory and win the day. As a tactician, you didn't stress the battles, you just won the war...

He noticed the Fire Elf placed her book down on the table. She was watching them now, probably having stemmed from wanting to strike up a conversation. He didn't know how to approach that. Dain had approached the table and quieted her, and he didn't feel it was right to open dialogue with just one and not the other. He couldn't jus ask something generic like 'How's the weather' with the elephant in the room that was Dain's action yesterday, but it would also be rude to bring up such a matter while there was a strange lady sitting there.

So he was as quiet as either of them, waiting for someone to speak. He knew that Dain would be accompanied by Luz, so maybe his time was best spent psyching himself for the moment. He wasn't nearly as afraid when he steeled his nerves... it was being caught off guard twice yesterday that caused him to react so violently.

Sin

Second floor ---> Lunchroom

If reptiles could blush, Mitch would have had a pink face instead of a white one. He did however, huff and puff like an offended gentleman and forgot where to look. For a moment he almost seemed like a cat clock, looking back and forth with a white face and a black neck swinging like the cat's tail. "Of course not! No dragonesses in Harpsticks!" Harpsticks being Sin's hometown. Sin snickered dryly and nudged the wyvern with her elbow, "Don't worry ladies, the Bachelor of the Year is still single. Though he does seem to have a sweet forbidden love with the town do-" "Don't you dare mention that, you conniving desert devil! I have no control over the actions of that mutt!"

Mitch was just too easy to tease.

Sorge certainly seemed quick this morning, as Felic noted. But the dragoness was right in her assumption; Sin was indeed staving hungry as she usually was. So Sin wasn't particularly bothered by it. But perhaps something was playing on Sorge's mind? It wouldn't surprise her after everything that happened last night.

"Mitzuki? I don't know. Tatsuke was in charge of the sheet, I was mostly overseeing and asking names to make sure he didn't mark the wrong guy. If you need to know you should ask him, it wouldn't surprise me if he memorized the whole thing before Kaio took it." She thought hard about the sheet and the names on it. "There were actually a lot of people on it who didn't show up. Less than half of the people on it came on time... if they even came at all. I wonder why. We're not that intimidating, are we?" The last part was obviously intended as a joke.

They reached the cafeteria, and Sin got what she usually did. A good amount of meat, and more than a few juicy red apples. It never ceased to be a source of pondering how or why a creature that was obviously built to be a predator, with the strength of three grown men, fangs and claws, could adore apples so much. They were practically the staple of her diet. She filled up another plate with meat for the black tri-horned wyvern and sat down the table from the chatting group of new students and a fair distance away from Tatsuke. While she knew he would not be as fearful of dragons now, when he was expecting to see them, it was still discourteous to run up there, practically sit on his lap and have the largest student dragon breathe down his neck. The wyvern paid nothing any thought but the meat that was placed on the table for him. He dug into it like a hungry wolf as Sin took a bite out of an apple.

Seamus

Room 30

The Draug had a rough start on the first day. It wasn't the first night in a row he had awoken above water, and it was the first time he didn't wake up above water rushing for the nearest water source, but somehow this had been the most unsettling and he didn't even know how it was possible. After all, the room was damp, there were soggy blankets and a soft mattress here, how in any way could this not beat sleeping on sticks and twigs so dry he could kindle a fire with them?

Probably the fact that the egg had curled up to him in his sleep last night. How did it get there? He thought he left the colorful rock on the floor! He found himself with a lopsided smile and a cold blue glare towards the egg, though. At least he had picked an egg he would have no attachment to. The egg down in the hatchery was probably still crying like a little baby. Sucker, served the thing right. He hated feeling uncomfortable, or like he was obligated to anyone or anything. An egg shouldn't have that kind of power over anything, and Seamus shouldn't owe an egg anything. especially a dragon egg.

He got out of bed, leaving the egg on its side on the damp covers. He stretched himself, the vertebrae cracking in his back and his shoulders popping loudly as his hands connected over his head. Maybe the day wouldn't be so bad after all.

~

Cafeteria

After he had, or course, gotten dressed and brushed and showered for an extra moisture boost, Seamus headed down to the cafeteria. The food selection didn't seem all too great to him. Draugr were pure carnivores and animavores. A carnivore was something everybody knew and would be able to explain, but very few seemed to grasp what an animavore was. An animavore feasted on the life force of living beings, the very thing that was said to give all creatures the ability to use magic and register emotion; their souls. To races who believed in reincarnation, and to fellow members of the undead family who were created from lost souls, this is a crime against nature. But the healthy Draug cannot exist on meat alone, and to live without eating souls was to allow their bodies to rot. Seamus wasn't bound to his body like a human lives in their own flesh, he was anchored to it. Him and his body did not coexist, he had to give it extra soul to keep it alive so he could stay tied to it.

He almost lost faith in the school and thought he may have to go climbing a tree to eat baby birds or leap in the moat and hunt down live fish... until he noticed they had remembered him. There, in a cage at the end of the lunch line, were live mice. D'awww, they did make an effort to accommodate Draugr.

He ate the mice there, swallowing them whole to let his stomach acids take care of their body and souls. There was no point in putting them on a lunch tray to allow them to run around, and while it would have been satisfying to eat them in front of others to see the looks on their faces he had no friends yet so he would hold off. The rest of his tray was filled with meat.

Not knowing where else to sit, he took a seat alone and observed the rest of the student body. An Azazel and a human... senior students, though, they would be tough nuts to crack. He didn't know a lot about those two yet anyway, but he assumed they were probably going out. Every school had one couple. There was a mass of students eating lunch together. An Icari, a Littleputan, a Wraith and what he assumed was some other kind of race transformed into a human build. They were new students... he would have to learn about them at some point.

Then there was the fire elf, the Nihounese human and the vampire. Heeeey! Weren't fire elves super distrustful of humans? It even reached his ear that Nihounese were the most violent of the bunch during the war. Seamus took a bite out of some of his meat with his jagged teeth. There, they would be the most fun targets. If they happened to become friends, of course.

In his focus, he happened to totally ignore the Uccello and the Shargonac. They would come into his life of focus at some point anyway, for now he was plotting.

Silmarwen, Student

Location: Cafeteria

Or maybe this seat was intended for him all along, Silmarwen thought, eyeing the vampire. The two seniors began taking turns in moving pieces on the checkerboard. Silmarwen wondered why none of them had spoken yet, when they seemed like they were used to each other's company. Why else would they resume a game without a word? Assuming that they wanted to speak privately, she popped the last berry in her mouth and slid the book back into her satchel.

"Greetings, my name is Silmarwen Dragonflame," she said to Tatsuke. "I am new here and in need of assistance. I was hoping to ask you some questions. But at the moment, I have to get ready for my first class. Perhaps I can see you later? That is, if you would not mind." She fixed the strap of her satchel across her chest, ready to go as soon as Tatsuke made his reply.

James opened the door for himself and Soria, and looked down at the floor. "Well I think, I'll just walk to the cafeteria. If i'm in a hurry I might take the shortcut" James said. James felt his stomach rumble, and he felt the sudden urge to be at the cafeteria sooner. "Come on Soria, if we wait any longer there'll be nothing left," James said urgently. Re-adjusting his bag James hurried down the corridor, then slid down the stairs. James hurried into the cafeteria, phasing through several tables to make it to the food. He froze as he gazed at all the food, moving quickly he filled a plate with various food of different cultures, inclined to try all the delicacies. Looking up from his plate James spied for a place to sit, he saw many others that he recognized, as well as some that he didn't.

"Damn I should've waited for Soria," James said out loud. Sighing he lay down on the ground and kicked off the nearest table. James floated along the ground past several people, resting his foot on his stomach. James briefly kicked his feet as he began to slow down.

Dain watched Tatsuke's move and frowned. He had truly hoped to win this game but it seemed he will end up losing once more. Dain made his next move, taking two of Tatsuke's pieces. He was trying to play the rest of the game in a way that Tatsuke hasn't seen him play before. Which was hard. Dain wasn't a fan of how quiet it was at the table. It seemed like there was a dome of hard feelings around Dain and Tatsuke, with Silmarwen trapped in it. Or so that's what Dain thought. Dain expected to be the first to speak, despite the new student sat next to him. However, right before Dain could speak the elf spoke up. She mentioned needing assistance and was wondering if Tatsuke would help her.

A wise choice, considering how smart Tatsuke is, whether he realizes it or not. "Silmarwen, it is good to meet you. I think I had missed you at the orientation," Dain turned from the checkerboard and smiled at the elf with a hand out to shake. "My name is Dain, it is fairly obvious but I am a vampire. It is very wise to ask for help from Tatsuke, considering he is probably the smartest one on campus. However, if you need immediate help, I will be willing to help you when we get to gym. At least until you can meet up with Tatsuke." Dain felt the quickest way to rid the table of the elf was to be polite and answer her questions himself.

Silmarwen, Student

Location: Cafeteria --> Courtyard

Taken aback by the vampire's sociable behavior, Silmarwen hesitated for a second before she took his hand firmly. "It is a pleasure to meet you too, Dain," she replied, meeting his gaze with a polite smile. His hand was cold, making her shiver. In spite of this, she did her best to act like it did not bother her. On hearing the vampire's comment about his friend, she turned to look at Tatsuke and smiled at him. "Well then, I am glad that I have chosen the right person." She was pleased at herself for choosing appropriately though unwittingly. However, Tatsuke still had yet to say if he was willing or had the time to help. Turning back to Dain, she added, "Thank you for offering your help. I do not need immediate assistance for now, but I will not hesitate to come to you when the time comes." She gathered her empty bowl and plate and rose from the chair. She paused to give Tatsuke a few seconds to make any comment or reply before she nodded at them and said, "Have a nice day, both of you."

Silmarwen turned around and headed to deposit the used tableware in the proper counter. As she exited the dining hall, she passed by two students and looked at them briefly. One looked like a griffin and the other looked like a reptile. If only judging people by their physical appearance, it seemed much easier for Silmarwen to trust those that resembled creatures of nature than those that resembled humans. This was simply because she grew up with the notion that most humans are selfish and malevolent by nature. Soon, the two students were out of her sight and out of her trail of thought.

Stepping out of the main courtyard door, Silmarwen smiled and headed to the closest spot where the sun touched the ground. There, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she let the warmth of the sun embrace her. While waiting for gym class to begin, she made sure that her long wavy hair would be out of the way. She twisted her hair and rolled it into a bun. After placing a hairnet over the bun, she tied a red ribbon around it. Once again, she pulled out a book from her satchel, sat down, and began to read.

Haruki

Teacher's Lounge

Haruki noticed Relan come into the lounge along with his dragon, Darik. They look like they were having one of their conversations that seemed hostile but wasn't. Haruki knew straight away that this was one of the many examples of the two different personalities clashing. He picked himself up and walked towards the two.

"Hey, you're up early. I thought you weren't teaching today." Haruki said to Relan. "Oh and Darik, I heard some commotion late last night. Anything to do with you?" This was a lie. Haruki hadn't heard or saw anything last night. It was simply an assumption as Haruki knew the mischievous ways of the Nebula. Then, Haruki remembered that Relan had lie detecting skills and regretted even saying that. Oh, I hope he doesn't rat me out. He thought Should have kept my mouth shut.

Haruki took a sip from his mug as if nothing was troubling him. He knew as soon as he looked worried or uncomfortable, even Darik would notice his lies. Keeping his mouth shut, Haruki simply waited for a reply.

Tatsuke

Cafeteria

Dain was speaking for him. Tatsuke's lip was buttoned shut because of that and he only accompanied Dain's words with quiet smiles and meek nods of his head. Honestly, he disliked that the vampire was answering Silmarwen for him, speaking to her when he was the one being addressed... but he never had the heart to stand up for such a small matter. Even less without the surge of adrenaline that had been rushing through his system yesterday. In his mind he berated himself, since Dain didn't have any malicious intent and was even complimenting him in his speech. Maybe his feelings of being smothered were unjust.

He didn't say anything to Dain nor Silmarwen, but he did give a polite nod when she waited for his comment as if to affirm everything Dain had said. He would help her if he was approached again, and he had just as many answers as Dain said he did. Vocalizing this would make him sound full of himself, though. So he held back.

He looked at the board. Dain made a move unlike he usually did, but everyone still had a similar style underneath rouses. He quickly pondered if Dain had forgotten the strategy he was using yesterday or if he was trying to trick him. The human analyzed the board in a few seconds, evaluating what moves Dain could pull if he continued to use his current strategy. He figured that he would be in danger if he continued to use the formation he had previously been using with Dain's suddenly unexpected move. So he instead set a second plan in motion where he could just as quickly turn to the other strategy and assure victory if Dain moved into the spot he wanted him to move. A piece slid across the board, seeming like it was going for one of Dain's advancing pieces but really just being a decoy. If Dain did either of the two predicted moves, he would have three pieces in his hand again.

Maybe Tatsuke would be a good Poker player. His face was never as stoic as it was when he was playing board games... He waited for Dain to make a move, either in conversation or on the board.

Soria

Room 53 -> Cafeteria -> Dragon Quarters -> Courtyard

Soria watched James hurry off with a remark about missing out on all of the food. He had disappeared in the moment she had taken to lift her hand, about to point out that the food wouldn't vanish if they didn't hurry. Giving a crooked smirk, she shook her head in amusement and double checked that their bedroom door was locked before following the Wraith to the cafeteria at a more relaxed pace.

When she reached the dinning hall, she quickly scanned the wide space to see who was presently at the tables. Moving towards the lunch line, she grabbed herself a bowl of frog and newt stew, smiling as the warm scent made her mouth water. Second, she grabbed a sheet of wax paper and wrapped it around a hefty chunk of raw meat. Finally, she went to find where James had seated himself.

However, she didn't find him at a table.

"What in the world are you doing?" Soria laughed, watching James as he slid across the floor between a set of tables. "You are certainly a strange character, James. I'm heading to the dragon quarters to give Duordin his breakfast before Gym starts. Would you care to come with?" She waited long enough to see what the male Wraith's answer would be before heading out of the cafeteria.

If James agreed to tag along, she would check to make sure she hadn't lost him as she walked. Regardless of his answer, however, she placed the wrapped meat into a smaller section of her bag so that she could eat her own meal along the way. Outside, the air felt good and she could see two female students already waiting for Gym to start; one of them was reading while the other just seemed to be standing there.

Walking past the courtyard, Soria made her way in the general direction of the horse stables, turning right and a little ways past them to a larger structure that seemed to only have half of a roof. From it, she (and James if he were following) could hear the sounds of grumbling from waking dragons. For a brief moment, beating wings carried from the quarters and one of the dragons seemed to roar faintly; most likely a yawn. "Duordin! You awake yet, lazy bum!" Turning the corner and finally able to view the actual sections, Soria couldn't help but faintly question if the quarters were simply larger stalls.

The structure offered plenty of room for each individual dragon with low dividing walls to prevent petty arguments about who crossed which line into who else's personal space; they were, after all, no more than a year and a half old in some cases and were prone to temper tantrums on occasion. "Duordin?" Different from the horse stalls, each dragon had specific luxuries that had been sought after. Some had extra cushions for bedding, others had puzzles they could solve, specific types of bowls, a certain order or placement for their belongings, trinkets, doodads, and whatever else.

Somewhere in the middle, Duordin's little space seemed more fitting for a newly born infant, filled with so many colorful toys big enough and strong enough to withstand his teeth, claws, and powerful jaws. "Hey Sleepy-Head, it's time to wake up. Don't want to miss out on breakfast, do ya?" Soria laughed softly when the serpentine dragon snorted, a leg twitching as he began to stir. She grabbed out the wrapped meat from her bag, ignoring the fact that it now smelled like uncooked beef, and began to remove the wax paper to hold it near Duordin's nose.

That got him up.

Her energetic companion shook himself awake, kicking any blankets and bedding out from under and around him as he got to his feet. Eagerly, he snatched the meal out of her hands and swallowed it down before licking the entire side of her face with a large tongue. "Duordin!" The young witch cried out, laughing and quickly placing her hands on his nose to calm him down. "Good morning to you as well and you're welcome. Now, behave yourself. I don't want you getting into any trouble like you did while I was away over the summer. I'll be back at lunchtime."

A soft whimper came from the green dragon and Soria frowned. "You know you can't attend class with me. You're too hyper. You'd only get into trouble with the teachers and I don't want you to be punished. I'm only leaving for a few hours. I'll be back soon." She kissed the top of his scaly nose and he huffed, plopping himself back on the ground with a heavy thump. "Don't worry. Love you boy!" A light thunking could be heard as his tail lifted and fell much like a dog wagging its tail.

If James had followed and stayed to watch the whole exchange, Soria would turn to him and ask if he were ready for Gym. Without much else, she headed for the Courtyard.

Felic and Sorge

Room 66 -> Cafeteria

Felic couldn't help but smile and chuckle as Mitch became flustered and cut Sin off from what she was about to say. Clearly, there was a story associated with the mentioned "mutt?" On their way to the cafeteria, Sin answered his question and Sorge kept a pace slightly at the front of their group. "Alright, thanks. I didn't know if you had caught a glimpse of any of the names or not." He mentally shrugged the matter off, only asking out of pure curiosity to seek how many names were on that sheet so he could better estimate just how many students were left to arrive if they ever did.

Coming upon the cafeteria, Felic's pace slowed no more than a fraction. He already picked up on the Uccello's arrogant emotions, a lining of mischief and curiosity making the Empath believe that Al'nivte could be up to no true good. He couldn't see the bipedal Gryphon standing beyond the corner with the Shargonac but he sensed both of their respective emotions; he wasn't worried about the Shargonac's own curiosity as it was just curiosity for the most part. "Don't you dare, Sorge...."

The dark scaled female paused and turned to face her human companion, not bothering to try and look confused about what he was talking about; what was the point when emotionally facing an Empath? "I only wish to size him up for myself. I won't start a fight; I won't lift a single claw against him."

"No. I trust you wouldn't, Small One, but I don't trust him. I don't want him to cause the trouble and get you caught in the middle of it to be punished! I'd rather be stuck in the middle of a hundred angry people than have you be punished because of someone else's foul actions." Felic certainly did fret a lot but he had his reasons for this situation at the least; this student had the unfair excuse of being new to the school while Sorge did not.

For a few heartbeats, Sorge just watched the Empath. Finally, she nodded consent and glanced towards Sin and Mitch. They would know that Felic would have shared details about last night's exchange with her; maybe not easily and right off the bat, but after some persistence from her side to know what had troubled him.

They went and got their food, Felic preferring a couple of pancakes with light syrup and butter. What? He couldn't enjoy a bit of sugar once in awhile? Sorge opted not to eat anything, still satisfied from the slightly big meal she had gotten herself last night. Some dragons only needed to eat a good portion of food every now and then to be satisfied for a couple of days, others needed food on as regular a basis as most of the other races did. To each her own metabolism.

Al'nivte

Outside of Cafeteria

It seemed to be that Lorf didn't know as much as Al might have thought he would about some of the students. But, then again, what had he expected? The male had only been there for a day after all. Well, at least the shy bit of information he did gather was somewhat helpful. The mage boy was scared of something and favored solitude to some extent; a rather easy target if it were not for the fact that the Uccello didn't know the boy's strength in magic. Then there was a girl with purple hair? Disapproving of rules being twisted? That sounded like fun. Now, the Icari sounded like a pathetic sub-human but, how else could the case turned out to be? He had heard brief tales about humans with wings being no more than prey for the more aggressive races.

"A dragon that looks like the evening sky? He does sound like a pure prankster to me... Thank you, Lorf-y. Are you in Gym class? Perhaps we can work together if the teacher has some sort of game or such in store." While the Uccello didn't believe Lorf to be very bright, it was something Al preferred; he didn't like his companions to be smarter than he was. Lizard boy wasn't his ideal pick but, this was only the start of the school year and Al'nivte wouldn't turn down the chance at having someone on his side to make things work as he desired.

Teacher: Relan

Teachers Lounge

Relan smiled at Haruki's joke. "You weren't doing anything bad, were you Darik?" he said and looked at his dragon. "You didn't cause any trouble, did you Darik? he asked more seriously. The nebula dragon a look on his face like he was caught for a second, but he had changed back to a cool expression quickly.

- - - -

Heard commotion, i didn't make that much noise, did i? Darik thought. "You were doing something in the classroom right?" Darik said. If he could avoid the question, Relan could only have suspicions that something happened.

- - - -

Relan looked suspiciously at Darik. "I was preparing for my first class. I needed to put a spell on the classroom" he said. He then got an apple for himself and a peace of cooked meat for Darik, which he gave to the suspicious dragon.

Lorf

Outside the Cafeteria

The Courtyard

Lorf didn't bother to point out everyone had to attend Gym. Instead he simply said "Maybe we could pair." Now it was a waiting game. With what he'd told the griffon, he would soon enough learn if he had been right. However he would not only learn and confirm his suspicions about the other students, he could learn about the griffon too. He already had suspicions about him, and if the worst of them were correct, well then he may take a more center stage than he liked and prevent the griffon from causing serious harm. He didn't hold anything against any of the students. "You haven't told me your name yet. What is it?" Lorf asked the griffon.

He then walked to the courtyard seeing some other students, including purple haired Soria, were already there.

Seeing that several other students were gathering for Gym, Deja grabbed the hatchling and got to his feet, "Scratch that." He said, his eyes lighting up slightly at the thought of his first day, "I'm gonna head over to Gym." nodding at the others at the table and smiling at Cassie, Deja started off towards the courtyard and got half way out of the mess hall before turning back. "Whoops almost forgot my bag." Deja said grabbing the satchel and hurrying back over to the courtyard.

~

As he reached the sunlight Deja sat down and plopped his bag down beside him watching the few clouds there were scuttle across the sky. As he did so the dragon moved from his lap to his shoulder and watched with him until he finally switched to watching the sun. With a clear set of eyelids that protected his eyes from wind, rain, dust, and sunlight much brighter than the light seen from the ground, the hatchling could stare directly at the ball of light in the sky.

But what was it? As the dragon pondered the question, coming up with tons of fairly rubbish ideas that all involved the same light he could see in Deja he finally decided to ask. And so, rapping his jaw against the side of Deja's head the hatchling tried his very very best to impress his confusion upon Deja.

~

As he watched the sky Deja felt the hatchling shift back and forth on his shoulder for awhile before lightly tapping his ear. For a second Deja felt a profound sense of confusion, but couldn't figure out why. Then he heard a word, What? and then a picture, the sun. Turning to face the hatchling Deja pressed his forehead against the crest of the dragons. And again, What? then the sun. Realizing what the hatchling wanted Deja smiled, we can expand on this. He thought to himself, communication. "That's the sun." Deja explained, shifting through his vast knowledge of it to find what information the hatchling really wanted, and promptly delivered.

Dain looked back at the checkerboard. Did he just make a mistake speaking up for his friend? Does Tatsuke even want him at the table right now? Did he make a mistake showing up? Dain pondered these questions silently and because of that, got distracted and made a move that was completely out of the ordinary and almost a wasted one. Of course Dain didn't realize this and lowered his head. "Hey Tatsuke, I want to apologize." Dain paused and looked up. Dain's feeling of guilt was strong, easily sensed by those who can tap in to his emotions. "I understand what I did was wrong and wanted to let you know I meant no harm, I just didn't realize how scared you were of dragons." Dain grabbed his cup that he brought with him and spun the liquid like it was a wine. The deep red stained the glass as it circled the brim, before Dain stopped and drank the blood. "I understand if it will take a while for you to forgive me Tatsie, I just hope you will."
