The TerraChildren Saga

The waters were crashing against the jagged rocks that existed near the coastline, creating a soft spry of water that blew in Sanja’s face. She sat in silence on the sandy beach looking over great ocean in front of her. Thou this was a small world the water mass had always looked enormous to her.

From the waters rose a little blue lizard with rather large eyes, jogging towards Sanja. His jog was proud as he had caught his lunch for the day. Sanja could only smile at his achievement but felt sorry for the little fish he had caught. In silence she continued to sit and watch over the movement of the waves, feeling at peace with her surroundings.

Not far from the seaside cliffs, within a thick forest of evergreen trees, a sudden cry rung out. As birds fled the scene, a small horselike creature tore out from the undergrowth into the open grassy plain beyond. Hot on its heels was a wolf like creature, a canirasi, at least four times the size of the horse. Its fanged jaws were snapping at the horses's hind legs, all four of its blood red eyes focused intently on the target. Feeling the predator's hot breath on its back, the horse desperately kicked at the canirasi's face a few times. Managing only to kick up some dust and making no contact on the canirasi, things were looking dire. Suddenly the little creature found itself on its back, swatted over by the enemy's clawed paw, and was now staring straight into its eyes and fangs. Pinned and helpless, it did the only thing it could.

It called out for help.

Nartak sniffed his struggling catch, pleased he had finally caught something. Its call, however, was not something to be pleased about. Why was he taking so long? Kill it, kill it now, and take it! he told himself, but the sound of thundering hooves behind him seemed to have him paralyzed on the spot. A snort in his ear and several earth shaking thuds made Nartak look to his left just in time to see a pair of large hooves flying his way. With no time to react, Nartak caught the hit on his chest and neck, ripping him from his catch and sending him flying.

With an equally earth shaking thud, Nartak hit the ground. He was dazed and his breath had been knocked clear from his lungs, but the sight of the fully grown horse barreling towards him was too much. He'd rather run and starve than face a horse nearly three times his size. With no time to spare, he scrambled to his feet and fled.

((Iss okay? :3))

Diane walked down the street towards the edge of the deserted town. It wasn't any better here. Some buildings had been torn down or burnt. Rubbish and broken carts littered the road. Rats could be heard scurrying through the foliage. The people who had once lived here were long gone.

She looked up at the large cliff face that most of the buildings had been hewn into. It wasn't really all that long ago when they had been constructed. Once they located the underground spring for a water supply, human life had quickly flourished here. Now it was gone.

Diane re-adjusted her shawl again and turned away. It was time to go back and find Tania.

((same here Fort bit with thunder here))

Toraz woke up. She got up fom her lean-to and stretched. Toraz then suddenly, out of the brambles and WOOSH a creature came out snarling. She thought at first it was a wild dog or a fox/cat. Well whatever it was it pounced. Arrrrrg! she yelled as its claws dug in her skin. She bled lightly but it was painful. Toraz finally managed to force the creature off with Electric shocks. she decided time to move. She packed her backpack full of necessary items such as; Knife, Food, Water, Supplies, Blanket and spare clothes.

Toraz came across a village that was abandoned so recently they still had good buildings for staying. The shops had stuff in it so Toraz took all the clothes but most of it was ripped. Next tried the food shop. Took a lot but the rotten stuff. She found a nice looking building that could have been townhouse.

Toraz picked the biggest and lay her full backpack next to the comfy bed and lay down.

Relief at last! She thought as she fell asleep...

Nartak yelped as a hoof slammed down on the ground behind him. The horse was doing what all good horse parents should - chase down the enemy and pulverize them. He looked over his shoulder, all four of his eyes focused on the giant, brown horse almost on top of him. Returning his attention to where he was going, it suddenly struck him: He had been running away from shelter and further into the open. He could have bitten himself for his foolishness. Now it was down to who gave up first, or who had the most stamina. And Nartak definitely did not have much stamina, thanks to often weeks of going without food. He started a wild serpentine, his thick tail keeping him balanced. He looked to do a hairpin turn and run past the horse before it had a chance to react, so he turned sharply to his left and slipped right over. If he could speak, it would have been just as well there was no one nearby who could have heard him. The horse started rearing and stamping at the canirasi, aiming to crush him. Nartak lunged out and snapped at one of the horse's forelegs, latching on with a vice like grip. Flung around like a rag doll, it was all Nartak could do to hold on. He closed his eyes, preferring to feel himself slamming against the ground rather than watch it coming closer. Then a sharp pain in his right hind leg. The horse had stomped right on it and the pain told Nartak to run, get out of there! As the horse reared again, Nartak let go, flying through the air and this time landing on all fours into a run towards the trees. The horse hesitated, then, seeing the predator was not coming back, limped back towards its herd and foal.

(( DragonSpirit009, that post is fine, a few spelling errors, nothing too serious. Rampaging Wyvern, your posts are also fine. Izzy, watch your capitals and punctuation. Fortune, yes, the TerraChildren all know each other, but only those of the same element are initially friendly with each other. ))

Cameron turned from the cliffs and walked down the slick slope. Another Volantian let out a cry from above, and Carissa took off from his shoulder to investigate. He smiled as he recognized the familiar screech as Faerin's, the sparrow which belonged to the other WindChild, Mae. He was always impressed with Faerin's speed and grace, who despite being half the size of his falcon, seemed to match it in almost every fashion.

He walks down the hill towards the scattering of trees, where he knew he'd find Mae. Soon enough, the younger girl appeared leaning against a tree. He waved his hand in her direction, smiling slightly as he approached. The two birds called again from above as they dipped and played through the clouds

"The winds are playful today, they seem to enjoy tossing about the water a bit more than usual." He chuckles slightly as he thought of the RiverChildren. "Goodness, Sanja would be so upset if she heard that."

He chose a different tree and leaned against it, suddenly caught up in thought about the other TerraChildren. He sighs and shakes his head. Sometimes I wish we could reverse time, undo the things we've done. But what's done is done. The eight which once were friends had become enemies. There's nothing he could do to change that.

Nartak cast a scared glance behind him and immediately stopped running the moment he saw he was no longer being chased. With his mind cleared of terror, it occurred to him his leg hurt like crazy with every movement. He whimpered and lifted it off the ground, slipping into the trees on three legs. Whether it was merely sprained or completely broken, he couldn't tell without the aid of others. He had no pack, and everything which laid eyes on him fled for their lives. At this point of utter helplessness, it suddenly struck Nartak just how alone he was. Now, he'd be lucky if he even caught a lizard. He lifted his head and howled, a howl from a canirasi in trouble, a begging cry for help.

Storm yawned as he woke up, having climbed up on a large tree and spent the night on it, then slightly fell off of it when he lost his balance. Luckily, the other branches caught him and lightened his fall, but he still slammed into the ground a bit hard. He got up, rubbing his back and sighed, then grabbed his bag that fell with him and hung it over his right shoulder. His eyes slowly adapted to the daylight and allowed him to observe a small village that was abandoned. He soon started walking, deciding to check it for supplies. It would take him around 10 minutes to reach the place, but he looked around and saw something.

Storm walked into the village after taking a shortcut and sliding down a nearby hill, causing him to reach the entrance of the village in less than two minutes. He slowly waked in, first checking an old store. There was some stuff here and there and he managed to get some food - a banana and an apple, two packs of beef jerky, a single bread loaf, mineralized water, some cheese and salami slices. He also managed to get a book about the old world, and smiled as he placed everything in his bag. He then walked into another house, planning to rest if there was a bed inside, suddenly spotting Toraz inside. "Toraz?!"

Tania was sitting atop on of the rugged old buildings looking out over the desolate wasteland. She felt sad. Gone...all gone. Movement out if the corner of her eyes quite the telepathic child's attention.

Diane! she called out, making her way down the old rickidly ladder. She wrapped her sweater around her as a cool breeze blew past. The young woman made her way towards the other woman.

"Have you seen anyone?" she asked as she got closer.

Mae let her eyes wander to the falcon as she rose to join Faerin among the winds. She turned her head as Cameron approached, waving at him with one simple movement of her hand. She looked again to the Volantians among the sky as he spoke. His words brought a smile to her face. "No doubt," she replied.

Faerin ducked down from among the clouds, dancing on the breeze as he made his way down to the pair of WindChildren. Mae held out her arm and he landed, perfectly balanced, on her wrist. Mae grinned slightly, stroking the sparrow's head with a careful finger. But her mind wandered.

She glanced at Cameron as he leaned against his tree, and, for once, the peaceful expression on her face vanished as memories of her village flashed through her mind. She almost opened her mouth to say something, but words left her, so she turned back to Faerin and continued to stroke his soft feathers.

Sanja gave one last sigh before she stood up from her seat on the beach. Her emotions were mix and restless like the ocean’s waves at this moment. She longed for the peaceful past but still disliked the other TerraChildren, sometimes she doesn’t know why but that emotion was just there.

“Come Rai.” She spoke kindly to her pet that had finally finished his lunch. He wasn’t much of a talker mentally but when needed, he would speak to her. Sanja started to move along the beach heading towards the closest river mouth she could find.

Nartak's keen ears twitched as he tried to see if there was an answer to his howl. There was none. Still, sitting around feeling sorry for himself wasn't going to get him anywhere. He limped onwards, snuffling under leaves and up trees in the hopes of finding something. At one point a lizard jumped from a tree and onto Nartak's face, but he was too slow to catch it. A thin stream held the prospect of possible food, but as he peered into the murky waters it became clear there wasn't any.

After about ten minutes of limping, Nartak could see the edge of the forest. Eager to get out into the open, the canirasi picked up speed, almost running out of the trees. The moment he ran out from the trees, he skidded to a stop. He looked around, surprised by the sudden change of environment. It was much quieter out here than in the forest. He looked at the ground - damp, flat earth with a few sparse patches of half dead grass. Ahead of him were several strange, large boxy structures, some with holes, some lacking sides altogether. Curiously, Nartak walked into the ghost town, peering into structures as he walked past them. The only sounds were the irregular paw steps coming from Nartak, and the occasional lonely call from a bird. The canirasi shivered. What had happened here?

"No" she said shaking her head. "No one at all. They've all gone. And in a hurry by the looks of it."

She paused and shuddered in the wind. Diane wasn't a fan of the cold, but she didn't like being too warm either. She much preferred a happy medium between them.

"What about you?" she asked when the gust had blown past.

Toraz's eyes flew open. Storm? She sat up and looked upon the figure at the door. Am I dreaming? She got out of bed and flung her arms around Storm. Well if it is a dream that felt too real. "Oh Storm I always wondered when you show up!" Toraz exclaimed. "So there is another bedroom on the right you can take... Or share a bed with me..." She said awkwardly.

as she moved over.

Nartak paused, one paw held in the air, sniffing. He heard voices in the distance. Who was living here? Or if not living, passing through? He pattered towards the noise, his long claws raking distinctive marks in the damp ground. He was now approaching what appeared to be a stone road or wide pathway parallel to a mass of these shells of houses. Nartak's claws now made constant clicks on the hard surface. He sniffed at the ground and wandered into one of the houses, whereupon he stumbled across some old meat lying under a table. Sure, it was old and dry, but it was food. He pounced on it with all the eagerness of a young puppy on its packmates after a while away. In two snaps the meat was gone, and the canirasi started a search for more tidbits.

"No one. Everything's fallen into desolation. There is nothing left but bones and ash. There are rusting weapons in a bone yard laying not from the village." the girl said sullenly.

"I've seen an abundance in animals, though." she said with slight hope.

Tania noticed her elder shiver, she hadnt really noticed the cold, she like the weather. The cold and the dark suited her. It was certainly a change from the caves.

"Shall we move into the inn, Diane. It's in disrepair but it is warmer, and I could get a fire started.

Storm smiled as he entered the room, managing to confirm that it was actually Toraz and not another casual person. He hugged her back, letting go when she did and smiling yet again. "Well, I was busy trying to find the other children and training my skills. I was also trying to find you and just saw this village, so it's quite lucky that I actually managed to find you here." He spoke, taking off the bag from his shoulder and taking a spot on the bed in the room - the one closer ot the door. He did not lie down and instead remained sitting up on the bed as he watched Toraz. "So, what have you been doing?" Storm asked, a smile on his face.

Carissa landed on Cameron's shoulder once again, starting to clean her feathers. Cameron sighs and fiddles with a few leaves on the ground.

"Mae, have you seen anyone else recently? Any of the other TerraChildren maybe?" His question was cut short by Carissa's peck on his head. He glares up at the bird, she didn't like it when they spoke about the other TerraChildren.

"Okay okay, I'm sorry! Yeesh!" He rolls his eyes at Mae with a look that says "geez this bird", only to get another rap on the head. He sighs. Carissa was a loyal and trustworthy bird, but she was fairly sensitive. What seemed like a grin spread across Carissa's beak before she opened a telepathic connection between Mae and Cameron. He's a little bit dense on occasions. Cameron glares as Carissa gives a chirp of amusement.

Toraz kept smiling. "I have been trying to survive in those woods!" She stopped and pointed out the window at the window. "We should go after 2-3 days of being here, go find the other Terrachildren!" Toraz stopped looked at Storm. "I'm gonna go patrol the village while you sleep then stop by the food store for supplies." Probably he wouldn't sleep while I'm on the bed. Toraz left the house and turned the corner she jumped. There was Snaok. She ran to the little tigercub. "Snaok! We got separated at the wild dog attack! I'm glad you found me once more!" She kept stroking him lovingly.

Snaok kept purring and nudged her. He managed to tell her he would sleep in the room next to the one Storm slept in. The reason being she didn't want him to wake. He needs that sleep!. So Snaok quietly snuck into the next bedroom and slept quietly.

Storm nodded to Toraz, taking a glance outside. Funny. He had been just a bit higher than the place she pointed at, and if she hadn't went into the village, he'd probably find her there. "Okay. I'll help out with whatever I can after I rest a bit." He said to Toraz as she left, lying on the bed and shutting his eyes. He was feeling a bit strange to sleep in the same bed that someone had already been sleeping in, but his mind quickly went ot the survival of the others when some could not and already almost forgot about the other people that lived before. Hoping nothing would come in and try to murder him, he slowly went to sleep.

Mae's usual expression returned when Carissa decided to correct Cameron, even laughing at the hawk's words. "So it seems," she murmered, running a finger over Faerin's head. Go find some food or something, she told her companion silently. With just a glance, Faerin spread his wings and darted to the sky, circling a few times before fluttering off over the cliffs and water, resuming his cloud dance. Hopefully, Carissa would follow him.

Mae looked over at Cameron again. "To answer your question, no," she commented, carefully letting herself slip to the ground. She leaned her back against the tree, pulling her knees up. She looked out over the water, remembering briefly the lengths at which their people had gone to try to prove them over the other Children. She shook the memory away. "It's been a year at least.. Maybe things are normal now?" The statement was half to herself, but Mae glanced over to Cameron to see his reaction. At least, she hoped things were normal again. But the lack of any sign of humans around bothered her.

Nartak looked up from the floor as he saw movement in one of the houses opposite to him. At first he froze, then he pattered to the doorway, looking across the street. It was a human, scavenging what she could find. Nartak sat down. He'd wait for her to move, then he'd go have a raid in there, as she seemed to be finding quite a lot of stuff. As he settled down he gave a yelp of pain, immediatly stifling it and shooting a nervous glance towards the human. He didn't want to be found out.

Carissa gives a nod to Mae and follows Faerin towards the cliffs, disappearing over the treetops. A single screech from her indicated her continued existence, but from a farther distance as she flies away from the pair of WindChildren.

Cameron sighs and draws in the sandy earth with a discarded twig absentmindedly, swirling in circles as though drawing the wind itself. He shakes his head. "The Aetians were subdivided into our four groups. They tore us apart, shredding our friendship that we once had as young children. The war lasted so much longer than it should have." He shook his head. "No, I don't think it's normal yet, wounds like this can only be healed with great volumes of time. One sad and unfortunate help is that they're gone now, every last one of them." He looks up at Mae sadly. "It means we can try to fix what was once broken."

Mae watched him draw circles in the ground. She didn't like to think that they were all gone. Every one of them? She shuddered, thoughts of her home village popping into her head. Gone... Her sullen expression returned again. She couldn't block out a sigh. "Where are they, though? I doubt it will be easy to find them."

[[kinda short compared to what i've been doing, sorry.]]
