Welcome to the Photography Contest!

 

Welcome back for another round of the DC Photography contest, come and show us what you've got! 

 

This time, the theme is: Changes (seasonal, age, colours, you decide!  )

 

Submission deadline: 10/15/2023

 

Voting deadline:  10/29/2023 *** note new ***

 

Submissions:

 

Rules:

 

- One entry per person.

- A photograph is defined as an image made using a camera or phone camera.

- Screenshots are not allowed.

- Picture has to be made by yourself and can't be just a reproduction of someone's work. If someone else's work is in the picture, there needs to be something extra.

- No manipulation besides basic photo adjustments (contrast, exposure, cropping, color balance, lighting, etc.).

- No text or framing in the photo. A signature/watermark is just fine, but it's preferable if you don't have "O Hai Eye Hav3 T3XT" (or something similar) present in the photo.

- When voting, please don't select your own image. This will ensure fairness.

- You are free to submit an old photo; you don't need to take a new one just for this competition.

- Winner hosts the next contest.

- Hosts may re-use previous themes that have not been used in the last 10 contests.

I wouldn't mind allowing slightly more editing in the contest, or making an exception for collages for this theme in particular. Although it sounds like the problem may be solved.

 

Fortunately, I already have something for this! The leaves haven't really started to change here yet; this is a tree in my yard taken two years ago. It had the most perfect gradient of red leaves at the very top, going through orange and yellow and finally to green at the lowest branches.

I took this picture of a historical tram in Porto this year. In this tiny circle, you can easily see how many things have changed since these trams were first used. I'm very glad they're still being used and maintained!

From late August this year, my cat was trying to prevent me from packing for my surgery and hospital stay by sitting on the suitcase every time we stepped away far enough from it that we couldn't shoo her away. It's the last pre-chiari surgery picture I have.

@Fuzzbucket Wow, that is a lovely casket. And a neat picture, too, I've never seen one lowered by hand in person.

@Little-Star I'm so sorry for your loss. My grandfather also passed away in early September and I'm still feeling the loss, although my family didn't have a funeral.

Wow that's an unusual but indeed very lovely casket, never see one like that before :O 

 

@GhostMouse thanks He passed peacefully at age 91 (his birthday was on the 8th) and is now back together with his wife/my grandma who passed back in 2010 and their oldest daugher (my dad's twin sister) who passed at a bit before 7 years old.

Four photos o day one isn't that huge. And I think this is partly down to the discussion on the last thread meaning we were all paying attention. Also to the theme, which immediately interested me (partly because of that photo I couldn't use !) Which, BTW, shows a willow coffin - they are ever so ecological - and getting quite popular in the UK. As are cardboard ones, and even simply being wrapped in sheepskin or something. We of course don't require lead lining and concrete cases and stuff - I imagine it wouldn't be OK in countries where that is needed, but also means manual lowering is quite common.

 

Mother, BTW, was 101.

I'd like to enter this random picture I took in a taxi in South America a few months ago - the mountain of 'fresh scents', the US flag outside of the US, the reflections in the plastic anti-covid barrier, the lights of traffic, and the old feel of the car's interior feels like change to me!

That kale looks thoroughly munched.

Judging by the purplr leaf in the corner, I'd say by grasshoppers.

But that's a cabbage butterfly on the pot and kale is part of the cabbage family.... 💀

I figured. But I'll let the little bugger feed on our foliage because they're just too dang cute.
