Reincarnated Remake

James screeched loudly, his voice managing to rise up past whatever was blocking his throat, when Derek suddenly attacked him. While the blade only went in a small amount, it still hurt greatly. His feet, still wet from splashing around in the creek, immediately kicked away his hands as he scrambled backwards. His eyes were consumed by a harsh, blue light as he quickly scrambled backwards, his hands working to quickly flip his body over. Clearly terrified out of his wits from both the remnants of the potion he had smelled and then being attacked by Derek, something feral and innate inside of James's body quickly consumed him and he scrambled onto all fours. Without any hesitating, he bolted, splashing across the stream and disappearing into the brush in an instant.

"Ah!" Fia yelled, scrambling to her feet, feathers ruffled up. "Wait, wait, wait!" Looking extraordinarily confused, she clucked anxiously, looking between the bushes the Hero had run into before glancing back at the cart. "What do we do?!" She yelled, unsure if she should case after the fast-fleeing alien or guard the cart against any possible threats.

Asheron didn't hesitate to charge after him. He was the only one who knows how to get back. He ran fast as he could, but the hero was faster..... heading straight for a Drkin's den. The drkin was a huge serpentine creature that spat acid and either chokes or poisoned its victims. He saw the dark emerald green shed skin of one. Once poisoned, one can slow down the venom, but only the elves knew how to heal it with their magic... and they weren't big on sharing.

Derek looked after his friend. Perhaps too much epinephrine. His ears went flat. There was no way James will forgive him now. He was trying to save him, not make it worse.

At some point during his flee, James's tail had managed to slip free again and trailed behind his body, helping to balance him out so he could run quickly without falling. Hearing feet behind him didn't help calm him down either, but instead sent him running forward even more quickly. At this point, he wasn't himself. He couldn't think properly, he could barely breathe and his leg ached. So when a green, snake-like creature suddenly reared up in front of him, James didn't notice until it was too late. His claws scraped against the dirt as he tried to stop short, only for the creature to suddenly lash out. Stumbling backwards, James quickly jumped onto two feet and retreated, keeping both eyes trained on the giant snake as it carefully moved forward, tongue flicking in and out of it's mouth.

Asheron charged ahead as the malted emerald green-brown head rose above the hero, it's wide red eyes looking at him with a hiss. It was long, it's body netting around several trees, opening its mouth reveling blue tipped teeth and black gums with a blue tongue. A colorful frill spread out around its head, the patterns on the grill electric blue made to look like eyes. Great Star-Maker, this was a female. They are the most dangerous. Drkin aren't affected by iron, but silver...... and Derek had the only think silver. He had the next best thing- basilisk musk and blood. Drkins hate basilisks, they both are natural enemies.

He skipped to a stop and threw a vile at the head so it shattered on its nose. The beast reared back and hissed, pupils growing wide as the scent overwhelmed it and dripped on its tongue. "get on my back now. This think will attack us in thirty seconds!" he hissed at the hero as he retreated behind him..

Freezing up in shock, James stiffened up as the massive creature opened it's mouth. His nails...or, rather, claws, seemed to be permanently stuck extended now as there was no physical way he could get them to retract. He was simply too scared. But the trance was quickly broken when the snake reared backwards and was stunned for a few precious moments, distracted by the vial that had been shattered on it's face. Tensed up, James quickly scampered back a few more paced before turning to the centaur and leaping on his back. Well, at his back was a much better description as Ash's body was far too big for him to so easily jump on his back. Instead, his claws sunk slightly into the centaur's skin as he scrambled upwards, managing to drape himself over the centaur's back so half of his body was on one side while the other half was on the other. Unable to calm himself at all, he continued to grab at Ash's sides with his nails, breathing in short, shallow gasps. His entire body was shaking and he was clearly very scared.

Asheron charged faster then he ever gone. The claws stung and he resisted the urge to buck as he tore through the woods back to the clearing as the snake snapped where he once was. He charged into the clearing, Derek had Fia back in the harness giving her some fish. "This way! Elves.. quick! The path... this way! Drkin behind!"

He dashed to the left following up stream where the path was the clearest. It soon widened into a river. After two hours of a full out sprint, which would have taken the rest of the day walking, they reached the thick dark leaves and soaring oak trees of the elves. He slowed only a little then, barely able to breathe himself.

Derek had help push the cart to gain speed and stayed in the back to make sure they didn't lose anything. The iron axle and wheels helped it go faster without breaking.

By the time they reached the deepest part of the woods where the elves lived, James was almost completely unconscious on Asheron's back. His claws remained latched onto his sides as the only means to keep him in place but his eyes were closed and his face was scrunched up in clear pain. His entire body was shivering but, despite this fact, he appeared to be sweating quite a large amount.

From out of the trees, a figure suddenly seemed to appear. There was no warning of his arrival like sound or scent but, rather, he seemed to just phase directly out of the forest. It was significantly taller than most of the humans they had seen and was very pretty in features. It had dark, brown skin and was decorated with black markings underneath it's eyes and on it's arms. It's hair was a light color, looking almost purple in the shadows of the forest. The elf-as it clearly was from his long, pointed ears-batted it's lavender eyes as it looked over the group then impatiently held out a hand. "I'll need your traveling papers." If it had seen the state James was in, it didn't comment but instead continued to hold out it's hand.

Asheron stopped then and reared before he stumbled falling on his front legs and hands painting. "Envelop.. cart... king's seal... heroes...." he gasped out. Derek scrambled in the creates and pulled out a thick envelop that said travel papers on it and ran it to the elf. He hurried to James and took his pulse. "Please! Hurry... my friend is in trouble.." He whimpers.

The elf briefly looked over the papers before neatly folding them in half. Striding quickly over to Derek, he rolled him onto his back and lifted up one of his closed eyelids so he could stare briefly at his eyes. Frowning, he handed the papers back to Derek and lifted the man upwards, easily holding him over his shoulder despite the fact they physically appeared to be the same size. "An escort party will arrive soon," The elf said as he looked at the remaining three. They didn't look as if they had been bitten. Very good. "Remain here in the meantime," He finished before turning towards the woods. In one powerful jump, the elf leapt onto the branch of a tree nearby and quickly disappeared into the forest, swinging through the trees like a monkey.

Moments passed as the previously silent forest began to come alive with noise. The trees and leaves rustled as figures began to gather in the shadows, staring at the tree in surprise. Whispers rose up between the leaves as the figures began to speak to one another in hushed voices. Fia ruffled her feathers up at this, clearly looking quite upset by this and wanting to run from the strangers they couldn't really see, only hear.

Derek helped ash to his hooves and put the paste that was handed to him on the claw marks before heading over to Fia, petting her neck. "I don't like this either. I hear lots of them. Makes me feel caged. We just need to relax for a moment and wait for someone to come get us. I wonder what was wrong with him before running into that snake. The description of drkin in the book made it sound terrifying... and also I have ophiophobia..... it's a..... irrational fear of snakes. Just... no...."

Sure enough, several minutes later, the whispers quieted down. In fact, the whole forest seemed to quiet down as the dense leaves ahead of them parted to reveal a group of five elves. They were arranged in a triangle with four guards surrounding the one in front, as evident from their weapons. While they wore armor, the first elf was wearing a very simple robe. “Welcome, travelers,” The elf escort declared as they stepped forward. Long, white hair hung freely and they were wearing a simple crown made of flowers. Like the first elf, their eyes were purple, though a much darker shade. “I apologize for not arriving sooner but you were do in much later. Your companion is already being seen to so you mustn’t worry about him. In the mean time, you may enter our kingdom and rest. Moving such a long distance in such a short amount of time must be exhausting. Moreover, many of our citizens would love to meet you.” The elf cast their eyes towards the bushes at this point, clearly gesturing to whomever had been hiding there previously. “None of you three are injured, correct?"

"Asheron had claw marks on his sides, but he had herbs to take care of that. Otherwise... no. None of us are hurt. It is alright for the delay. We arrived just in time for your people to help my friend... " Ash nodded and bowed to the elf. "I am sorry to have rushed here. The hero needed medical attention, and it was over my head. I couldn't cure a drkin bite, just distract it enough to get away as fast as we could."

Derek caught the centaur's bow and bowed as well to the elf.

The elf seemed amused by the bowing and bowed back themselves before rising up again. "Well then," they began, smiling at the group. "Welcome to our home. My name is Ledraes and if you require anything at all, you may ask for me. Your companion is in our care and will be returned to you as soon as he is well. However, before I leave, I would like to hear more about your adventure. The King tends to be vague when writing letters so we do not know much of what is going on or what you require."

"She sent us here to see if you have any idea of who we are. You see, my friend and I don't have any memories of the past. She sent us here for your kind lives far longer then humans. If any race has any knowledge on our past life, it would be yours.humans only know a little about us. The king was hoping you know more." Derek said as he tilted his head. "James- er....Viziel has no idea what he is. Nor do I. Could you help us?"

“Ah, of course,” The elf replied. His head tipped slightly to the left as he regarded Derek for a few moments, then closed his eyes. “Many of my kind were destroyed in that disaster. We elves were largely removed from the war but few of us fought on the front lines. My own memory of the time fails me but books have been written on the subject that we have collected. I will consult the libraries and have the books we have read over. Unfortunately, the books are all written in our language but I can bring the results of our findings to you, if you would like.”

“OH!” Fia suddenly yelled as she wiggled herself free of the harness and jumped forward, butting in between Derek and the elf. Ruffling her feathers, she produced a letter stamped with a seal containing a crown on it, clearly belonging to the King. “This is for you,” She declared, holding the letter out to the elf in her beak. “I’ve also come with special cargo from the crown.”

“My guards will escort you,” The elf replied, taking the letter and tucking it into the pocket of his robe. One of the guards moved away from the group and walked over to the back of the wagon. The rest of the guards moved back into the brush and, seconds later, the thorns and brambles moved aside to reveal a massive fortress made entirely of plant life. Winding paths made of thick tree trunks connected homes that were made by the growth of the trees. Everything had clearly carefully been crafted over time, thanks to the gentle hands of the elves. “Welcome to our kingdom,” The elf said as he stepped towards the massive tree fortress, gesturing for Asheron and Derek to follow him.

Derek, being the nerd he was and his father's son (his Papi loving many old timey including LOTRS and insisted his son knows Quiddum or elvish as a second language) he let slip a basic word in Tolkien's sanderin. "Elo!" His ears went flat as he looked at the trees he followed the elf looking around in astonishment. Ash mimicked by simply saying the translation of the word as he walked behind the hero. "Wow!"

“It is a rarity for the Elves to have guests,” The elf said as he gestured around. While the human town had been full of children, all of the elves visible were clearly adults. “So you will have to excuse my people for staring a bit.” The elf let the group walk past him, along with Fia and the cart, before the brambles and thick bushes closed behind them and knitted shut, aided by some unknown magic. The trees at this part of the forest were absolutely massive, towering above their heads. Several elves sat up on the high branches, carefully weaving the leaves together in patterns so that when the light passed through them, it struck the forest floor in intricate designs. Many other elves had similar crowns made of flowers on their heads, though each one was a different color and composed of different flowers. “We will try to be good hosts, however. What would you prefer to do first? We are, of course, looking into information already but there is time to waste while that is occurring. We all want to make sure you enjoy yourselves here."

"I just would like to rest and get some answers. And draw... this place is a artist's dream! I might need to get more paper...." He looked around in amazement. "a place to rest and good vegetables please?" Ash asked timidly.

"I will see to it that those requests are filled. If you seek rest, you may proceed to the center of the trees. The entrance to the Roots is there, where you will find many individuals rooms to sleep or lounge in. I will request that you not go too deep and instead remain near the surface, however.” With that, the elf turned and moved away, gesturing to other elves nearby and speaking to them in a quick, light tongue that sounded more like the sounds of the breeze than any human language. Nodding in understanding, the elves spoke back, leaving the two alone.

Ahead of them, the largest trees came together in a circle. In the middle of that circle was a large cavern that was at least several hundred feet deep. As it’s name suggested, the cavern was filled with the roots of massive trees that too had been grown in unusual shapes. Pathways led to areas where the roots had been grown into large orbs, the insides hollow and filled with plush blankets and pillows. Clearly, the elves valued comfort. These pathways spiraled deeper and deeper downwards, fading into the darkness. However, deep down under, the slightest red glow could barely be made out. Obviously, something was down there in the deepest part of the elven kingdom.

Derek nodded before saying "thank you." and went with ash to the Roots after getting some paper and the unfinished letter. He went into a wide room with a desk and set his papers down writing out that there was a encounter with a creature, but they were in the elves care now. After that he drew the trees and homes of the elves in finite detail, down to the patterns of shadows. He soon fazed out, switching to a clean sheet, not thinking at all while he drew.

Asheron choose a mossy room with a high ceiling and a low bed, although he lay his horse half on the ground and His head on the pillow. Within seconds he was asleep.

Far beneath the forest the elves called home, the ground rumbled slightly. Ledraes, along with the rest of the elves, paused in the midst of his tasks and looked towards the Roots, a slight frown creeping onto his face, though it quickly passed. Gesturing to the closest elf, he called them closer with a frown. "Go ensure that nothing has happened. That is the third tremor this day and I worry what that may mean." Nodding quickly, the elf quickly ran to the Roots and quickly descended, running past both Ash's and Derek's rooms as he hurried downwards.

James's eyes fluttered open as the rumbling ceased, his fingers digging into the soft blanket that had been lain over him. His shoulder was throbbing horribly and it ached but he felt as though he could barely move. Dark figures he couldn't quite make out stood over him, speaking to one another in words he couldn't understand. What was going on? Where was he? Groaning, he tried to move but could not find the strength to do so. He was just too tired.

Asheron woke slightly and fell asleep again after the trembling.

The shaking didn't phase Derek. He continued drawing when the earth stopped still in his artistic zone.

After several hours, the elf appeared outside of Derek's door. Knocking gently on the wood, Ledraes smiled warmly as he gestured to the stack of papers he held in one hand. “Good afternoon,” He said, not taking a step inside of the room. “I have the collected research we have discovered. I am uncertain of how much of it will be of use to you but we have some information about you. There is not much we have on the Sky Forces or the Spaceman, unfortunately, as many of our texts did not survive the fires and writing was scarcely what was on our minds at the time. If you would like, I can go over the results with you so you know what we did uncover.”

Derek jumped and put his quill away. "Yes, yes come inside. What did you find out about me?" He waved him inside and moved to the elf can have the chair. He took the bed and sat down on the edge looking at the elf intently.

((Would you like the info or me to tell it?))

((You can have the info, just make sure it revolves around everything before the war takes place and that he doesn't remember anything.))

"It's mostly from before the war," The elf admitted. "Family history, possible relatives, that kind of thing. After the war, we elves briefly took your bodies for some time in an attempt to identify you both but we could only find information on you. The only thing we found from Viziel was his name and the fact he most certainly is not of this planet. There was a diary of some kind but it cannot be read." He paused for a moment and glanced away, looking out towards the bottom of the Roots. Frowning slightly, he shook his head and looked back to Derek again. "That is all the information we have now. Most elves have repressed their memories of the time so there is not really a reliable source we can ask. At least, none that are awake."
