Reincarnated Remake

Derek plucked a paper and a piece of charcoal and drew a world map of earth. "It's round like a orange, and split into seven large land parts called continents. These are separated by oceans and seas although some are connected. It isn't only humans. Animals live there too and trees and such... but the animals are normal... if there's a normal animal here... " He looked around and went back to the paper drawing more lines . "Continents are split into countries, kinda like kingdoms but not really. There's no crown or anything like that. There used to be but not anymore. We have big buildings made of steal and glass that fits lots of people. We can fly from one place..." He placed a thick nail on the American country, and another on England. "To another in big machines. We have lots of technology... sometimes it's how some people make money. They make sure it still can run properly without any problems. James here dose that. I do art for.. business.. kinda like merchants, but they sell lots more then spices and silk. It's hard to get into our history if you don't really know about our planet...... am I missing anything James?" He asked his friend.

The mage seemed absolutely enthralled by what Derek was saying, though clearly confused. "Technology?" He asked, leaning forward slightly. "That sounds fascinating. Is it some kind of instrument?" The mage smiled at Derek as James sipped out of his mug, looking away from the group. There were some horse-people nearby that looked exactly like centaurs. They were off in the corner a distance away from the festival. But even though he was laughing, he felt awful. He wanted to throw up all over again. Derek seemed concerned as well but was clearly having a much better time than he was. He was more concerned about the fact that if this place was real, he didn't think they were going to get back home. They were chasing down some fairytale villain here, they were probably going to get their asses handed to them royally. Neither of them were heroes but especially not him.

"So if you don't have Kings, who rules over these countries? Surely someone must be in charge." The mage, if he had noticed James staring off, didn't comment on it. Leaving him alone was probably better right now. He didn't really look as if he wanted to talk and he would respect that as long as the Hero didn't do anything rash.

"Well no. It's science. Like lights that glow and don't need wicks. Those pods we came out of, you can call that technology. There are people who rule. Just not the way you think they do. In the place I come from, a leader called the president talks to leaders of other nations to bring trade and peace. Under him is the congress, made up of people kinda like the king's court is... , but they make the rules. People like me and James get to say whether or not we like those rules and can pass them with votes. We also are in charge of who is present and congress;we vote them into office. Then there are judges who look at cases of theft and someone hurting another or murder, and they decide what to do with the guilty person. It's really complex. We have classes in school just about our government. I'm not quite sure about the other countries. This one.." He tapped England. "Has a queen but the parliament is in charge of the people there. She's just a figure head. Something that has always been there for a long time but has no real power other than signing papers..."

He looked at James and reached over and set a hand on his shoulder. "Hey.... what are you...." He looked over and stopped. "Are those.....?!....... we know of those guys but.... um.. they are myth where we are from. Are they even real? I think my mind is playing tricks on me... Can you tell us about this place? After that.. I think it's best we go to the room... this is too much and too different from where we come from. I already feel woozy and James looks a little sick. Any more and we wouldn't look very heroic. Got to keep the spirits of the people up don't we?" He had washed his hands with water and rubbed his eyes, cleaning off his hair as he ran his fingers through it making it damp, but it wouldn't reek of wet dog.

"Fascinating," The mage replied with a small nod. "I have heard of a Kingdom here that has the presence of a court as well as a King. Unfortunately, it is a fair distance away from us and we are not allies so mages cannot study their system very well." He tapped his chin then removed a quill from his pocket. Mumbling something under his breath, he tapped the end of the quill before pulling out a small piece of light yellow paper. Setting it down on the table, he quickly drew a circle with a massive chuck of land in the middle. Three islands rested to the Southeast and he dashed out several dozen lines through the massive chunk of land. The North-most part, however, was left entirely alone. "This is Tiadoria," He explained, adding in a few smaller islands removed from the main land. Shading in one large area at the Western point of the large land mass, the mage held the paper out to Derek with a smile. "We have many Kingdoms here, each one pledged to a different kind of species. Not all species have Kingdoms. Many other creatures live within the Wilds, areas between Kingdoms where civilized people are rarely found. Trade between Kingdoms is very common and the rulers will send diplomats to surrounding Kingdoms to trade and make allies."

James flinched slightly, quickly turning to look at Derek. It took him a moment but he sighed and let his shoulders relax down, taking a small sip from his mug. "I need a nap," He muttered softly as the mage quickly stood up.

"Do not worry, heroes. I will speed things along so you may retire for the night. There is first a ceremony that needs to be performed but I can manage that well enough. If you could follow me, I will only need your time for a few minutes and then you may rest." The mage quickly stood and began walking towards the centaurs. Sighing loudly, James stood up and began to follow him.

Derek took the paper to study it and followed them. He walked close to James. "I can teach you to meditate if you like, it may help. I'm going to ask for the stones I need for meditation. My soul.... feels.... restless. It's the only way I can describe it. I can't think straight and a clouded mind isn't good for self control and proper judgement. I agree with you though... a nap sounds wonderful right now...."

James rubbed his forehead then moved his hand to pinch his nose. Derek was clearly trying to be helpful but he was loosing his patience more and more with this set up. Everyone was trying to be so nice but it didn't change the fact this was basically kidnapping. He didn't know if they would get home, his family would be devastated and everything was just wrong. Maybe a few years ago he would have enjoyed this more but he was too worried about everyone at home and the idea he might never see them again. "Yeah," He muttered, drinking from the mug he had brought along with him as the mage stopped in front of a small pen. The wooden, fenced in area held a strange white bird that seemed to have the head of a swan but was much, much larger. It's body looked more like an ostrich, though. Generally speaking, it looked like one of those ancient birds...Moa? He was pretty sure they were called moa. It also looked like it could step over the wooden fencing it was held in which wouldn't be very fun.

"This," The mage said, turning back to them. "Is Fia. She's the fastest bird we've raised here and she'll be pulling your wagon. She's very well behaved but we need to update her seal so you can command her as well."

"So how do we do that?" James asked.

"It requires some of your blood," The mage replied. He gestured to Fia and the bird immediately lifted up her leg, holding it out over the fence so the mage could access the markings there. The mage produced a small knife and held it out to them. "Just a small cut on your finger will do. I'll heal it immediately but I just need a drop to go on the seal."

Derek looked at the beautiful bird. "What does the spell do? Will it hurt her? I don't like animal cruelty at all so I refuse to do this." He shook his head and stepped back from the fence, now he looked sick, and his snowy skin had a green tint to it. "If she runs off, she wouldn't know what to do so she'll come back to us." He looked at his feet, leaning on part of the fence as he looked like he was going to faint again. This was definitely too much. And the smell over here made his nose burn and eyes water.

Fia looked a bit confused at this declaration. Based on the mages's words, these were supposed to be the two Heroes. She never had seen any depictions of them before but why else would they be adding an owner to the seal? Frowning, she tilted her head to the side as she stared at the Hero. He wasn't human, that was obvious. He also looked sick. The other one looked like a human but he smelled weird. He probably was rolling around in the mud or something!

"You don't need to worry about that," The mage quickly reassured as he stepped closer to Derek, not wanting him to collapse. "She's very well trained and you likely won't even have to use it in the first place. You mostly just need to make sure she doesn't run off trying to kill something. These birds might look like chickens but they like to pick fights with all kinds of monsters. It's not cruelty, it's just like having a leash."

Fia grunted, clearly frustrated with having to keep her leg up on the fence for so long. Looking between the three of them, she tilted her head backwards and groaned loudly before looking at the mage again. If he just let her talk, she could convince them both the seal was fine. But instead she was left here trying to balance on one leg forever while they decided.

Derek steadied himself. "Alright. Fine." He said, clearly the bird was uncomfortable standing on one leg. Might as well get this over with. He held out his hand to the mage palm up. He looked at his feet, still bare and probably would be for the trip.

The mage quickly took the small knife and dug the edge into the tip of Derek's ring finger. Immediately, blood pooled up from the small cut and the mage pulled the knife away, satisfied with the few drops on the edge of the knife. Holding out his other hand, he barked out a short word and the injury vanished just as quickly as it appeared. "Thank you!" The mage said quickly before wiping the blood on the knife on the seal around the bird's leg. Cleaning the edge of the knife off, he turned to James and quickly repeated the procedure.

Turning back to the bird, he mumbled a few words under his breath. The seals on her leg glowed green briefly before returning to their normal color. The mage patted the bird's side and she promptly lowered her leg back down, nodding gruffly. "All done!" The mage declared, hiding the knife in his robes again. "I can escort you back to the castle if you like now. You can meet your guide tomorrow if you would prefer that."

Derek still sucked on the finger to take away the pain. He nodded and looked at James for help. His icy eyes met his dark ones and it was clear he was no longer calm but had a crazed cornered animal look to him. He pulled out his finger and looked at the mage. "Is it possible you can find some meditation stones for me?" He rattled off a list of conman stones like clear quartz and onyx, lapis lauzi, fluoride and some others he needed. "Just bring them to the room when you have them. " He looked up at the sky to gauge time.

James glanced down at his hand. While just a moment ago there had been a small cut there, the injury was already healed. Even though he had seen the mages demonstrate magic before, it was still shocking to see it. It was so strange. Letting his shoulders sag slightly, he looked up at the sky. It had been sunset when they had been released from the castle but the sky was dark now. Even though the lights of the festival illuminated the entire court of the castle, it was unmistakably night now. Looking away from both the mage and Derek, he glanced back towards the bird they were leaving behind in the fence.

"Absolutely. I've informed other mages to seek out as many of those stones as we can find. In the mean time, allow me to escort you both into the castle. One mage will remain nearby throughout the night in case you have need of anything else." With that, the mage set off in front of them, leading them back towards the castle.

Derek followed them, carefully avoiding his chalk drawing on the steps. He would meditate in the morning before they left. Right now he needed sleep. He looked at James. "I really hope this is all a bad dream, but even my dreams aren't this crazy. I really need to rest.." He said as he looked around at the tapestries on the wall.

The mage quickly led them up through the castle to the tallest spire. Opening the wooden door, he stood to the side, letting them go inside of the room. Taking the lead, James slipped inside and looked around. The room was large and had two beds in it, one by a window and one against the wall. The beds were large and looked very comfortable and tapestries decorated the wall. Near each bed was a small drawer. A small bookshelf held a variety of books, most dealing with the history of Tiadoria or the species that occupied it.

"This is your room," The mage said as James made his way to the bed near the window, not answering Derek. Opening the window, he looked out at the festival below then glanced back at the mage and Derek. The mage turned to Derek, smiling as he did so. "Your stones will be here shortly. The other mages located quartz, onyx and lapis lazuli but were unable to find fluoride. Do you require anything else?"

"Agate, turquoise amethyst and jade if possible. I use them for meditation, to help calm my soul and mind. If you slip some drawing supplies in with the provisions I'd be happy, I like to draw what I see. This is fine for now though, thank you." He smiled back at him and said goodnight closing the door. He instantly started pacing. He talked fast too, in the heavy German/English sounding accent, made him stumble over words easily. "This is too much. Far to much! We're never going home.... never.... my dads, Lilly... they will be worried! What if Lilly freaks out and bites someone! They wouldn't hesitate to put down a pit bull! Ohhh.. what do we do?!" He huffed as he walked from one story the other in the room.

James sat down on the bed closest to the window, his eyes trained on the ground. While Derek had taken to pacing around the room, he had internalized everything, choosing to keep it within and process it there. But it was still difficult to deal with. He needed some kind of a simplification, some way for everything to go down easier. Trying to work with this all at once was going to kill them both from anxiety alone. And he couldn't really sort it with Derek putting up so much of a fuss. He needed to calm down, not get all riled up, and Derek was not helping with his fast words and pacing. "I can't think," He muttered, pinching his nose and closing his eyes. He needed to just phase everything out. There wasn't a place for him to sit in silence so he needed to make do with what he had available.

"Sorry, I need to calm down I know." He went to the window and shook out his chalky shirt and set it at the foot of the bed. He continued to pace, after plucking a book and reading it as he walked, looking at the creators until a knock came and he collected the stones said his thanks and sat on the carpet, legs folded together in a cross legged fashion. He set the stones in front of him in order of chakra and started holding the quartz the master stone for all. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. He was perfectly still and seemed asleep while sitting, only moving his hands from one spot to another, following the energy flow.

As he mediated, he sorted out the events and what exactly what they were to to here. As he got higher in the energy pools in this trance like state, vivid visions came to him, more detailed then his dreams. Mostly anger. Anger and frustration, resentment... evil thoughts, thoughts that hardly ever cross his calm mind. He couldn't tell at what exactly. But something happened to the soul in this body, a betrayal on a deep level. He wasn't sure he wanted to know what it was about..

((It that's ok. Not about Viziel, it's the werewolf father of Arkin. More in that later.))

((It's fine, he just can't regain any memories yet. I'm thinking combating the Evil will awaken Viziel's and Arkin's memories completely in them. I might have it be that the Evil deliberately brings back their memories, however. I'm still deciding.))

James sat in silence as Derek began to meditate. After it looked like he wasn't going to move very much, he let out a soft sigh and turned to the window. Pushing gently at the shutters, he opened the window wider so he could see out. The festival was starting to lose steam as children became more tired and the people began to return home. Leaning out the window, James looked out at the land beyond the large wall. There were many large fields he could see and, in the very distance, a large forest of trees. No doubt they would have to venture through there.

Sighing, James pulled the window closed again and settled down into the bed, pulling the covers over him. He could worry about it all in the morning. For now, it was more important that he got rest. He let his eyes close as he shifted around a few times before finding a comfortable space and falling asleep.

((Want to time skip to morning?))

((Fine with me. I thought that would happen. Gives me time to plan out his life. Just emotions of his past life, really strong ones he can recall. Sure, make it morning. ))

Derek finished as the festival wrapped up and James's breathing said he was asleep. He collected the stones and set them on the book he was reading before oddly turning twice in the middle of the bed and fell asleep quite quickly. When dawn came, Derek being the early bird, was testing his body's flexibility by doing yoga. Flexibility was important if he was to defend himself and his friend with his skills. Currently he was in a handstand scorpion position, before relaxing and taking up a Hummingbird position. He did have to admit... the extra limb made it hard. The last position, his tail was on his head.

James awoke much slower than Derek did, groaning as he pulled the covers over his head. It was too bright out. Sun was streaming in through the window and it was irritating him. He couldn’t fall back asleep at this rate either. Mumbling to himself, he sat up, pulling the covers around him like a cloak so his body was largely hidden. Watching Derek for a few moments, he rubbed his eyes and yawned loudly. “You’re up early,” The groggy alien declared. “Didn’t you fall asleep after me?" He slid off the bed, taking a few deep breaths as his bare feet touched the floor. Dragging himself across the floor, he walked to the mirror resting against the wall and stared at himself for a few moments. They hadn't had mirrors before this... was this really what he looked like now? It was pretty weird.

"Yes. But I got up early. I normally do. The birds woke me. " He relaxed and lay on his belly. "Odd huh? I looked at myself too. I'm stronger looking now.. and it's strange having a tail." He pushed himself up in a cobra position. A basic one but he needed to gradually cool down his mussels. "Still flexible though. That I'm glad of."

Running his fingers through the mess that was his hair, James frowned. "You got taller," He replied, pulling the blanket closer around his body. It was cold. Hopefully he could get some layers from the mages or else he was going to freeze out there. This new body seemed much more intolerant to the cold. Looking down at his bare feet, he wiggled his toes, watching as the toes responded. While there were enough of them down there, the toes looked less like people feet and more like the paws of some kind of animal. "Jesus," He muttered to himself, lowering himself to the ground and looking at his feet. He had thought he was human based on basic appearance but his feet suggested otherwise. Along with looking like paws, the bottoms seemed to be padded. Pressing down on his big toe, he reeled back in surprise when the small nail suddenly got a lot bigger. Oh, great. This was just fantastic! "I guess you were on to something when you said I smelled like a cat," James declared, probing at his feet more.

Derek got up. He was actually quite warm for once. He pulled the blanket off his bed and wrapped it around James. "There, better now? At least you wouldn't smell like wet dog when it rains. I didn't know I got taller. I was about 5'10" on earth.. guess I am taller now. " He looked at James and tilted his head. "You hear that?" His ears twitched.

James shivered slightly as he pulled the blanket closer around himself, still investigating his feet. "Hmm?" He asked, not glancing upright immediately. Muttering to himself, he frowned as wiggled his toes, noting how they moved separately as if they were fingers. He didn't know what kind of creature he was supposed to be but based on the retractable nails and his padded feet, it clearly wasn't human. What else was wrong with him? At least it was all clearly things that could be hidden. He'd hate to have to have visible changes like Derek's ears. "I don't hear anything," He replied, looking at his fingers now and checking out the retractable nails he had there.

"Foot steps. Coming this way." He opened the door and looked out into the corridor to see who was coming this way. It was a mage. He smiled at them and closed the door again, slipping on his shirt. "Get dressed, I think we are leaving here soon. We can see what we can do on the road. Im taking a book on creatures, just to see if we can find out what we are and know how to handle what we might run into. You think we'll see the king again before we leave?" He said as he packed up the stones in a little bag and grabbed the book he was reading.

((Doesn't he have a tail too?))
