Little lost dragon and I

Recommended Posts

Fren worked and calming Alina to try and prevent the hatchling from getting further scarred. She looked up when Guthrie and the high priestess showed up with food and water. She nodded her thanks to Guthrie, but the priestess only gave a curt nod. She lost some respect for there higher ups when they decided to imprison and threaten her and her daughter with death despite not knowing those certain laws.

When the triad returned she stood up and faced them holding Alina close her eye's showing she will defend her self to the best of her ability if they decided to kill her. But then the barracade went back to the ground and the guards left. She looked around then back to them and waited for there answers. She gave a nod as Deep Roots began with his first line and relaxed a bit when it was said her and Guthrie where not charged with heresy. She looked at Shadows waiting for him to burst with something to go against what was being said. But seemed even he could not refute the evidence. She looked back to Gentle and the others as it was said Gentle would be in charge of this new found development. She nodded as it was said that the population is to be left in the dark about this. Smart move otherwise the planet would erupt in war, and hope of the people making it to the stars slime to none. She nodded as it was decreed to make sure the other places would be warded to ensure war was a slime chance. But if Guthrie stumbled across one, and there where hundreds, how many others knew of them? And just did not voice them? Others surely would have found some of the others.

When the others left and Guthrie went into the temple to study the tablets she paused Gentle spoke to her. She paused then tilted her head in confusion. She was about to ask how would that work and what would the others think of such? 2 hours ago she was slotted for death with her daughter. Now she was in place to take Gentle's position in the highest rank of there goverment should anything happen to her? Talk about leaps on the social ladder. She looked at Alina and sighed before nodding. "I'll do my best." she said with a small bow. "Before you go, I must point out, Guthrie found that facility by chance, the holo..... the god mentioned hundreds of the facility's, Others have surely located at least some of the others, once these individuals are found, what will be done about them?" she asked "While many bow to the triad, we've already seen secrets hidden, you discovered one of Guthrie's last night." she pointed out. She did not mean to stress Gentle out more, but such things needed to have a course of action ready as soon as possible.

"I hope no one else has found these places, but if they have, and if they managed to get in like Guthrie, then we will take them to live with the Shamans until such a time as we decide to announce the truth or come up with a better plan. They'll be well cared for, it's not like they'll be prisoners or anything, we just can't risk the truth getting out until we have made the preparations that are needed." Gentle explained, her face lined with worry and stress. "Like I said, Roots and Shadows are out trying to find more of the facilities. Whenever they find one we're going to place it under guard and ward it against discovery. In this the god... The person in that place, was very clear. We aren't ready for the things he offered. We are going to seal any of the places like the one we found, and the one Guthrie found will only be open to the triad, the high shaman, and special cases such as yourself or Guthrie." She explained as Guthrie came wandering back into the room from outside. He had been talking with his mother; the high priestess, outside. He now returned without her and floated over to wait.

"For now I need you and Guthrie to work on the first tablet and try to-to come up with a plan. I have to address certain things now that this information has come to our... To our attention." Gentle said before turning and leaving the building.

Guthrie floated over then, giving a small wave to Alina who was still snuffling from her recent bout of crying. Strangely enough Alina have a tiny wave back, but didn't respond with much else.

"Um... Fren?" Guthrie asked nervously. "I um- well I was given land because of what... Of what happened you know. And I don't really need much because I just you know, I just live in a tree. So I was wondering if you... If you wanted to use it instead?" He was nervous again, his hands knotting together once more as he spoke. "I-I mean it's not like it's a r-relationship or something, but you said you wanted to live here, and they gave me land near a stream, with a clearing and it's only a little ways from there. It's being warded right now. You can, you know, stay there if you want. And you can use the tablets to make a home like you're more used to. It's um- just an offer you know, but I'd thought I'd ask."

Fren nodded and listened as Gentle spoke. She turned to Guthrie when Gentle left and let him get to the point on his own timing. He was offering her land to stay on. Though clearly he had some hopes of it maybe contributing to a relationship because as she never brought such up she knew that, she smiled a bit and nodded "While making my people own kind of home will be hard for me to accomplish, thank you for the offer Guthrie, we'll take you up on your offer." she said coming over and giving the nerves male a quick hug. "Come, we need to start our share of the work on these tablets." she said waving him over.

She did like him truth be told. He was young visibly, unsure, but was open to idea's out side of what he had been taught all his life. And so far, either influenced by his lack of confidence, or he just plain was a thinker, he seemed to think before acting, never making any unneeded snap decisions. And he was kind of cute to her. More so if he was suprized. The way his eye's would get bigger and bigger. She would not say it but she found her self wanting to giggle at the thought of it.

Of course though she was sure if this was what Gentle had spoke about before, about her finding a partner for her self. Fren had never allowed her self to experience loving anything really before. Alina was the first, but reading her emotions with Guthrie..... all she knew was she felt more at peace with him around, he made her want to smile. Maybe having him in her life was what she needed.

There was also the matter of Alina, if Fren did get together with Guthrie she'd need Alina to accept it as well. Though part of her remembered Alina very animatedly asking her, why Fren had not found some to love back when Jak and Kara where having there time together back when Bore was sheltering them.

for now though she needed to focus on there task, she was a large part now of how Guthries people will grow up, and the line between peace and war was as thin as a trip wire right now.

Guthrie smiled at this and nodded happily. "Oh good." He said, surprised that she had said yes. "It's good that someone will be, you know, using the land. I don't know what I'd use it all for anyway." He said, seeming to be unsure of what to say after that. Instead he just floated over to the tablets and began helping Fren translate the first tablet.

The one they began with was obviously to help with the beginning of a civilization, advice and instructions on a village structure, ways to build non-intrusive facilities that wouldn't disturb the environment while still allowing the people access to the materials that would be needed.

"...this line is how to begin do-mest-icat-ing things." He explained, reading the line again before turning to Fren. "It also lists a couple of different animals. I don't understand what it means though." He said, reading through the whole thing again before shaking his head and looking up. "I don't know how we're going to do this Fren." He said. "Our culture is based around not hurting the planet. How can we make or do the things it says to do without hurting everything? It doesn't seem possible." He said, a little down now. He was obviously concerned about this, and nervous now that it had come up. "I didn't think this through Fren." He said quietly. "I didn't consider the whole thing. If we try and advance then our planet suffers. Then we're just like the humans who came here."

(Kinda taking a break from Avira and vita for the moment until Fren and them settle in. Then we can have them rejoin the group after a few years have passed. Unless you want to do it differently.)

Fren smiled as Guthrie responded smiling to her accepting his offer. When they continued to study the tablets she explained things to the best of her ability. When they got the part of a tablet that mentioned domesticating smaller creatures and he got down she got a thoughtful look. "If you where starving to death Guthrie, and the only source of food was a small meat creature near by. There are many of it, but if you eat one, that one is dead." she said "When it come to life of any species sometimes compromises must be made for the dominate race to flourish and learn and survive. Now my people we relocated half the creatures we ended up displacing. We'd take a look at where they used to live and find another area that was the same or similar." she explained. She went on to how his people could do similar things to what her people did. But her main point being that sometimes some things need to happen, otherwise progress will be hampered.

"A pack of meat eating animals move into a area of a forest that preiveiusely did not have them, they hunt the other creatures but don't over do it. They are not harming the planet, only continued a cycle that has always happened on the planet." she finished off saying.

"My people..... had to learn some of this fast at the time due to over population, we try to live in harmony with the planets we settle on, leave the animals to there lifes besides a hunt here and there. Little hard to do when you got too many people." she said with a small chuckle "We can live for just about forever provided we are not too badly stressed in our old age, we have no natural death period after so many years, sickness, stress, conflict, are the things that kill my people." she explained sure he'd like to hear that. That she won't be going anytime soon.

(Sounds good to me, oh and been having an idea bounce around in my head, Since the facility was activated a few times, and detected Fren in it (I'd assume it would be able to do so) would it send a signal to the alien race that placed it there warning them that the planet race might be nearing the stars? Maybe perhaps cause the alien to launch a probe or scout ship to scan the planet, then wonder what an alien like Fren was doing not knowing she was help the race advance slowly but surely?)

(I has thought of that actually, but the problem I have is that the whole idea was to give the people the basic needs of a civilization, the tablets to kick them forward every hundred years or so, but that's it. Beyond that they were going to leave the race to their own devices. Hmm, I need to think it over, but you might have a point, I don't know.)

Guthrie seemed to relax a little at Fren's justification, obviously accepting it after a moment of consideration.

"My people are... They're um- they're different." He said finally, thinking over what to say exactly. "There doesn't seem to be a reason behind how long we live. Some live to be thousands of years old, while others die around 100 or so. There are stories about the gods having blessed those who live a long time and cursed the others, but that doesn't make sense now of course. My family is long lived at around 3000, but some die as early as 800. Just depends I guess." He said, shrugging and looking around, stretching himself as he did so.

They had been hunched over the table for over an hour, and Alina had already gotten down and was exploring a little, never straying to far from Fren, but still poking around the floors.

"She is very shy." Guthrie said suddenly, his eyes following Alina. "It's to bad. Still the cursed place is bad, and she lost her family there." He stopped then and shook his head then, suddenly nervous once more. "I um- I'm sorry. It isn't my business of course. I just um... I heard from one of the guards. I shouldn't judge, I mean I'm nervous too, and I didn't even go to the cursed place. It m-must have been terrifying. The stories say there are monsters and things from nightmares. N-not that that's my business either. Just um... Just forget everything I said." He said, worried that Fren would be upset by his talking. To try and redirect the conversation her turned back to the tablet, rereading another section. "What part should would try and impending f-first?" He asked, trying to avoid the anger that Fren was sure to show after his questions.

Fren tilted her head as Guthrie explained how long his people can live. It sounded strange some would live to 3000 and others hardly past 100. Far too much of a gap there to be natural, all life her people had come across at least had a gap of a few hundred years but not thousands. She frowned a little making a mental note to investigate that in the future. When he spoke about Alina she looked at the hatchling and sighed a little with a nod. Then looked at him as he started to get really nerves. Then he tried to direct her attention back to the tablets, asking her what part she thought would be the best to start with. she stretched a bit her tail going ridgedly out of the lab entrance and stretched her legs making her stand about twice her normal hight for a moment or too before she went back to normal "The creatures in the cursed place are something of nightmares, there is no way to go too far when it comes to that. Its no place for anything or anyone. Those who wish to enter such a place are fools. As it almost seals your fate once your in and then it tries to kill you through many methods." she said before shaking her head "There no limit to the monstrosity's that are in that place." she concluded

"Alina and I are the last survivors of the group we started off with. Only one other survived but was.... mind controlled by another being to do her bidding. The rest are dead from the castles creations. Alina, hatched in that place, and saw everyone as her family...... she was...... happy, bubbly, even with being in that place, it did not truely faze her until it began to remove her family one by one." she said then sighed "I'm hoping that by living here, with your kind, out side of the castle, she might recover her self, but such things will take years." she explained "Gentle.... when I spoke with her seemed to say I could.... fullfill my own needs as well if I wanted to." she said then paused thinking how to explain it. "Alright. Break time, you trusted me with information that could have costed your life, its only fare I share some things I don't tell many others." she reasoned.

After taking a seat on a ledge and gesturing for Guthrie to settle beside her she explained her history more or less, her child hood, her job in the war, the castle events. "Over all...... many would be far better suited for the kind of job I'm helping with here, I'm no expert on farming for example, my people never farmed.... unless you call the spawning pool facility similar.... and as for things like..... love and getting together with another being. I know nothing of. I know I have the natural impulses, however I've kept them suppressed, now.... I'm free to find and pick a life time mate but.... sounds ridicules but I got no idea how to go about it. Was never something I put thought into, studied, or anything. My people are very strict on couples as well, largely to make sure they don't split up after marriage and causing deaths with there next partners." she said before looking at him "Say, do you think you might be able to help me with that? Learning this.... love thing?" she asked not entirely sure if thats how one asked for help to such things. Though then again, Guthrie mentioned the word relaitonships when nothing else close to it hd been brought up by anyone else.

((True true..... that might prompt the aliens to try and rid Fren then, because if they want the plant people to get past a point then rely on there own power from then on..... well with Fren at such a critical point in the plant peoples development, that's not likely to happen if Fren remains lol.))

Guthrie relaxed a little as Fren spoke, but was obviously upset at the stories she told. He didn't like that people could go through such hard times, and the wars she described were beyond his imagining.

"There's an arrow that can kill all those people?" He asked when Fren described the weapons of mass destruction. "Why would anyone build that?" He asked, more to himself then Fren.

When Fren began to talk about love though he began to get nervous again, and when she started to talk about him helping her figure the whole thing out his eyes grew large again and his nervousness returned.

"I um... I'm not the best person to ask F-fren." He said, his hands starting to go again. "I-I've never even been in a relationship before, and I um... Maybe you should talk to Gentle Breeze, she's l-lived a long time, maybe she could help." He suggested, trying to keep calm as he spoke. Truth he told he did have a bit of a crush on Fren, both because she was very pretty, but also because she was kind and had been the only one to believe him when he put forward his idea on the true nature of his peoples existance. That being said he also wasn't going to make a move, he was to scared to even admit his feelings to himself let alone to her. That wouldn't stop him from interacting of course, it just had a tendency to make him a bit more awkward then he already was.

"I um- I was thinking, and we need to... To teach you how to walk." He said after a moments pause. "You know, through the woods. If you're going to live here you need to know um... You need to know how not to get lost."

Fren smiled a little and shook her head "I already have spoken to Gentle Breeze on this." she admitted before standing up and nodding "And you bring up a good point, if I'm going to be living in these lands I won't always have someone to escort me everywhere" she said before calling Alina over knowing the hatchling will not want to be left alone here.

She looked at Guthrie smiling a bit. He seemed to get real nerves again. Why would a male get nerves if there was no interest? She gave a small swish of her long thick tail like she remembered seeing other adult females doing with other males in the colony she used to live in before the war.

Once Alina was in her arms again she nodded to him "Lead the way." she said with a nod.

Guthrie seemed glad that Fren was willing to move onto a new topic, and waited for Alina to run over to Fren and climb into her mothers arms before leading the way outside. He seemed to pick a random direction and start walking.

"The stories say that our woods are full of spirits, the ones that whisper during the night and make all the sounds. They also say that the spirits cause the trees to move, causing the paths to change the further in you go." He explained, stopping and turning to Fren. They hand gone more then 100 feet and already the temple had vanished to the undergrowth.

"If I were to leave you here you wouldn't ever find your way out. Your trail would loop back to this point forever until you died of dehydration. In order to avoid that we have to teach you to walk like our people do. The key is..." He paused, trying to think of the words befor shaking his head.

"It's hard to explain. Our people aren't born with it, they have to learn as well. It's not magic, it's just... Something. I don't know how to say it. When a child reaches ten they are taught how to walk. At that point they are capable of making more informed decisions and can understand what to do in case of emergency. Until they reach that age all seedlings are supervised constantly. Alina will learn later, but you're obviously old enough. So, please close your eyes." Guthrie said, waiting until Fren did so. "Um, ok I n-need to touch your forehead and b-both your hands." He said, nervous again as he waited for the to ahead. When it was given his hands began to glow and he gently traced a shape on the three areas mentioned. The glow remained for a few moments before fading away until nothing remained.

"Ok, the sigils have been traced, now it's time to learn. You should feel something, a buzzing or maybe a pull. Sometimes people hear a faint ringing, it depends on the person. No matter what you'll notice something." He explained, waiting until Fren gave the affirmative. "The feeling is your Kuchre, your connection to the world. It is how we navigate. You can merely think of a place and it will lead you there. If you wanted to wander and explore you can think on a point and it will be your reference so you can always advance." He explained.

When asked how it worked he scratched his hand a little and shrugged. "Nobody knows, but there are stories of corse. The one that is most widely accepted is that when the gods came here they saw that the planet was full of the evil spirits, left from the destruction of the monsters that roamed the world when it was cold and dark. The gods knew that the spirits would try to keep us from living here, and would even harm us, so they gave us the gift of knowing. They taught us how to move around the world without harm and without hurting the planet. Now that we know the truth though, who can say?" He said with a shrug. "Anyway, you need to try it now, so you find our way back to the temple. Just think about going there and start walking. Your Kuchre will do the rest."

Fren nodded and thought on the temple before a faint sound of a tube made out of flesh with air being blown through it like one of her her peoples instruments sounded. She turned and faced that direction and began to walk towards the temple. Focused on the faint sound. She wondered though, had the plant people used a heavy use of nano tech as well? Perhaps that was how they manipulated the plants so easily, and do things such as this. Yet another thing she'd need to look into. So she was relying on her Kuchre..... she knew her people worked with a planets stuff, worked around forests and water beds and such, but she her self spent most of her time in space and off world. She paused when a whisper sounded like it was right in-front of her. She blinked and looked around. Perhaps the warding though of her Kuchre was in need of work though.

Suddenly it was like staring into the eye of a massive beast. She did not know if Alina saw it but she instinctively used both arms to protectively secure her daughter "Guthrie? Somethings....... blocking my path!" she called as the whispering got louder and far closer then she felt ok with. Something had gone wrong, very wrong she knew that. It was like they where trying to reach into her head and find her fears.

She hissed partly in frustration and partly in fright before she launched her self high into the air leaving the whispering now sounding suprized at her sudden jump. She sailed over a few tree's before she had a rough landing through all the branches. She lept again faintly hearing the sound though in her heist miss judged the leap. She sailed through the air again and ended up having her talons land on the edge of the temple's outer wall before she fell down. She broke her fall with her tail but then fell to the side faster then she thought she was going and landed with a thud. She groaned but got up and shook her self. Alina was held securely on her chest with both of Fren's hands and arms there.

Fren took a few deep breaths to calm down before waiting on Guthrie. When he did arrive he'd notice her tail shaking a little. "Think next lesson..... will be on how to ward off those said evil spirits." she concluded firmly.

Alina was shaking again because if Fren's sudden choice to yell and jump around, especially since the last time Fren had acted so crazy it was when Kara had died. She continued to shake in fright even as Guthrie floated over.

"Oh, um yes..." He said, his hands twisting again nervously. "I um, I forgot."

He didn't seem to want to say what came next and was instead stalling, his gaze looking anywhere besides Fren. "I'm s-sorry." He said, looking down in shame and fear of what Fren was going to say. "We found out you w-weren't compatible with our magic." He said. "So I made you um... I made you th-this." He said, pulling a loop of material seemingly from nowhere.

It was a simple thing, made from a leather band with multiple polished stones threaded into the band, one red, another blue, and a third green. All were almost electric to the touch, giving off a static sort of feeling as one got close to it, which disappeared when one came into contact with the bracelet.

"I-I'm sorry Fren." Guthrie said timidly. "I-I forgot and I sh-should have been more careful." He was stammering again, a show that he was nervous, and what was more he was a little scared that Fren would be angry with him now. He was also carefully avoiding eye contact so he wouldn't have to see Fren's anger.

"I d-did make it myself." He said quietly. "I p-put the necessary magics in to keep you s-safe."

Fren looked at Guthrie and would have folded her arms if her arms where free. "Guthrie, things like you can't just forget, forgetting such dangers is how one is killed!" she said sternly. Oddly though she could not bring her self to get very angry with him though. He seemed to be already somewhat paying for it already with out her getting mad.

When he showed her the loop of martial she came over and at first hesitated when she felt the static like feeling, but once she made contact with it the static feeling vanished. She frowned a little and brought her tail over and slipped it on. She slipped it on her tail far enough down to secure it with a slight bulge of her scales on either side of it. She looked at him then sighed before giving him a nod "Thank you Guthrie, you managed to make it look pretty as well." she said complimenting him. She gestured for him to sit down on the grass and she sat down her self before she looked at him in the eye "Guthrie..... mind if I ask you something that maybe a bit.... sensitive?" she asked "Mind if I ask what's caused you to..... act like your going to be severly punished or something every time you trip up?" she asked gently

Guthrie let himself float onto the ground so that he sat as well, but still wouldn't meet Fren's eyes. He was mad at himself for messing up so badly, sad that Fren disliked him, and nervous that she would yell more. Instead of looking at her he instead played with a couple of grass clippings, carefully twisting the stalks into different patterns with his long fingers.

"I'm um, I'm not scared. Everything's fine." He said, although his heart wasn't really into the lie.

"P-people don't like you saying that what they believe is wrong." He finally muttered. "Especially when it has to d-do with the gods." He went silent again, but his hands glowed for a brief moment making the tiny animal that he had created from the grass move around before falling apart again. Alina seemed fascinated by this, and stretched out a little to get a better look as the grass animal moved around.

"T-telling them about the talking g-god wasn't the first time I... That I talked about maybe looking at improving ourselves, and maybe making t-tools of our own." He explained, letting the grass fall from his hand. "I-I was right, b-but at the time t-the shamans didn't like it. I-my mother h-had no choice of course. T-they punished me, b-but I still thought I was right, so when I s-spoke out again I was punished again. T-this last time was my third o-offense and m-mother, I mean the high priestess said that if I acted out again they-they'd kill me." He whispered, showing a few scars on his body from previous punishments. "B-but the shamans d-did acquit me of all previous charges, s-so that's good." He said, still refusing to look at Fren.

Fren just looked at him when he tried to say he was not scared. It was far to easy to tell that lie even if she was not trained in such things.

When he finally started to say the truth she looked right at him. Her reptilian eye's searching his eye's at times trying to get him to look her in the eye. When he finished saying why he was frightened she could see why he got frightened easily. After all who knows how long he had been living under a death threat. Though her chemical radar picked up a few changes with Alina, granted small ones but ones that where not involving fear and fright which was good.

She reached over again and gently guided Guthrie to look her in the eye "Guthrie, look me in the eye please." she said gently yet sternly. Once he finally did "I will not kill you Guthrie, I might of survived the cursed place, but I don't kill unless the being in question makes them selfs a threat. Screw ups here and there happen, but don't think I'm going to kill alright?" she assured him "I don't want my study partner living in constant fear of pain and such alright?" she said firmly but her eye's caring.

Guthrie listened to Fren, but his eyes never truly locked wih hers. He was still nervous, but he seemed to calm when Fren told him that he wasn't going to be hurt or hated.

"Thanks Fren." He said with a small smile. "Um, we should go back to the temple." He said, rising again and heading off. It wasn't very far but when they arrived Guthrie turned back to Fren and got nervous again.

"Um Fren? I uh, I need to go to check in on something real quick. I-I'll be right back I promise. He said, waiting for the go ahead before disappearing into the trees.

Alina got down from Fren's arms and wandered around a bit, staying in sight of Fren but willing to explore beyond that.

She had definitely grown since Fren had found her in the egg and was easily doube her original size. Where before she had been about the size of a large puppy she was now as big as a large house cat. Her wings had lengthened as well, and she was getting heavier with muscle. It wouldn't be long before holding her wouldn't be an option, but still Alina was refusing to talk, and it was closing in on a week since she had last spoken.

Guthrie was gone for a good hour or so before he returned, beckoning for Fren to follow him.

Off into the woods he went, always careful to keep Fren with him at all times. Finally they entered a circular meadow. Grass and flowers grew there, and near one edge ran a creek deep enough to bathe in if one were so inclined.

To one side was a large tree, grown thick enough that you had to have three or four people linking hands to circle it's trunk. Huge limbs soared overhead, but at the center they all formed a house. It was like the branches themselves had grown to form the perfect walls, leaving only windows and doors. One limb formed a handrail-less staircase that led from the ground to the front door. Another door on the back side if the house led to another branch which grew up in a spiral to give access to a porch on top of the house, giving a perfect view of the meadow. Inside was a bed formed from the wood with the soft moss that formed Fren's previous mattress keeping it soft. Blankets of the same material were laid on top of this. Drapes were formed from long leaves growing near the windows. In all the house had three rooms, two bedrooms and a central living area. One of the bedrooms was unused while the other had Fren's bed in it. The central living area had a few seats formed from wood and yet more soft material. Beyond that the house was empty, but still homey.

"I um, I had a friend of mine help me make it." Guthrie said, twisting his hands together. "Y-you said you couldn't make what your race had on your home planet, so I though maybe this would be the next best thing. I um, I told them what to make it like, and I made sure there was room for when Alina got better." He said, hoping that Fren liked it. He and his friend had worked hard on the design, and although the actual creation didn't take long, the amount of energy that did was enormous. "I um, I hope you like it."

He was trying to impress her again, giving her another gift that he had created, and although he wouldn't admit what he was doing his stomach always lurched nervously when he was trying to impress Fren. "I-if you don't like it I can get my friend and we can try again." He said, hoping he hadn't done it wrong.

Fren nodded and got up and made her way with Guthrie to the temple. Then he suddenly had to check up on something. She nodded and watched him leave before she let Alina down and watched the hatchling explore. She was still worried about her daughters mental well being. But she was glad to see Alina recovering from the last scare so fast, that was good to see. She figured tonight might be a good time to use the book Bor had given her.

An hour or so later Guthrie finally returned but beckoned her to follow him right away. She tilted her head and called for Alina before following him letting Alina walk beside her if the hatchling wanted to.

When they got to the meadow she looked at it all suprized, and there was a creek as well, her eye's where a bit large now with suprize till she saw the house. When Guthrie gave her and Alina a small tour of the place. And even a room for Alina when she recovered? She ran her hand along the bed and then one of the leaf curtains as he said he hoped she liked it. She at first did not say anything but when she got beside him again her tail came around him and brought him in for a gentle hug "I get the feeling there more to this then just helping me out." she said quietly though was smiling "There will be no need to try again Guthrie, I love it as is." she said gently touching noses with him.

She was no expert on such things, but it was kind of plain he was doing this for more reasons then just to help her out. How quick he was to say they could redo it, how he was going out of his way for her. He trusted her with things that could have gotten him killed.

She held him in the hug for a few more moments making sure he got the message she accepted his gift and that he did well on it. Then she released him "Perhaps after we've at least studied another tablet before this evening, would you like to join me and Alina for dinner tonight?" she asked smiling.

"Oh, um... Yes, I suppose I could stay for a bit of dinner." Guthrie said, flustered by the way that Fren was reacting to him. He was still completely in the dark as to how to act now, especially with Fren hugging him and touching her nose to his. So he did what he normally did in confusing situations and switched topics.

"I um, yes there's always tablets to work on." He said, already floating out the door. He waited for Fren to join him then led the way back to the temple where he began to translate the tablets again for Fren.

Alina meanwhile went to a corner to sit. It had been over three days since Varren's death, and her emotions were just starting to re-emerge, now with an extra bite.

Her eyes were starting to moisten as she though about everything that had happened and it wasn't long before she was crying fully, her small body shaking as she sobbed. She had begun to grieve now and with the loss of three of her family she was lucky to be resurfacing at a all. What was worse though was the way that Guthrie was acting around Fren.

She could tell that Guthrie liked Fren, and even if she couldn't tell if Fren liked him back she also didn't care. The fact that he was interested was terrible. He was trying to replace Varren. Varren and Fren should have been together, not Guthrie and Fren. What was worse was the fact that Guthrie sort of looked like Varren, which made everything harder. Not only was this person trying to get together with Fren, but he was also trying to totally replace him. What was next? A replacement Jak or Kara? Alina didn't like that thought at all and was crying because of it. She didn't want a new family, she wanted her old one. She wanted Jak with his funny jokes, she wanted Kara who was always so beautiful even if she was sad, and she wanted Varren, who was always nice and smart and strong. He had been her father in every way that mattered, and it made her cry harder just to think of her three missing loved ones.

Fren smiled and nodded and was about to leave with Guthrie when she heard Alina crying. She paused and motioned for Guthrie to give her a moment and she went and found Alina crying hard again. She came over and crouched beside the hatching and gently stroked the little's back. "Shhhh, its alright Alina." she said gently "Want to tell me whats the matter?" she asked hoping Alina might speak. Might be part of the hatchling's recovery, or it might mean more. She did not know.

No matter what though she wanted to make sure Alina knew she was loved and cared about. But right now it was hard to tell what was bothering the hatchling. If anything was bothering her.

Alina continued to cry as Fren came down to her level, but she run into Fren's arms and hug her tight. It took a little bit for her to calm down enough, but when she did she managed to hiccup out a few words.

"M-miss them m-mommy." She croaked, her eyes scrunched shut. "Don't like G-Guthrie. Not v-Varren!" She cried, breaking down even more and just sort of melting into Fren's arms. Her emotions were running high again and her form was already starting to flicker in and out of the shadow realm as she cried. This stoppoed on its own eventually but Alina didn't show any signs of stopping her tears.

She refused to say anything else either, instead just crying more until she seemed to have exhausted herself and fell asleep instead, her tear stained face calming as she slumped.

Guthrie had disappeared when the whole thing started, but reappeared a minute or two after Alina fell asleep, peeking around a corner before floating in.

"Um, maybe it would be best if I... Just stayed away for now." He said, referring to Alina's talk about him. "I can um, I can get you a new translator who she'll like more."

Fren held Alina closely as the hatchling cried her self out. She did not like seeing Alina like this, but at least it showed progress as well, the little one was slowly coming to showing her self again. Then she spoke after a bit, the first words in a couple of days. She gently hugged Alina as she spoke and nodded. "No, Guthrie is not Varren." she agreed as the hatchling continued to cry. She was unsure what to say right now that would help Alina, right now...... the reality would not help the little one.

She continued to stroke the hatchlings back as she fell asleep before she looked up to see Guthrie floating in. She shook her head when he offered to find a new translator. "No that won't be needed, Alina is just... going through a peroid now.... one that she has yet to go through of grieving." she explained quietly "Maybe though we'll reschedual the dinner for a later point. But our mission remains the same, we'll study' the tablets." she explained quietly "Alina is a strong young one, with some guidence and good roll figures, she'll come around." she said with a nod quietly. "Just may take some time.

"I understand." Guthrie said as he floated a bit closer. "Gentle said that there'd be food waiting for you at every meal. I'll just meet you at your home in the morning." He explained before walking Fren back to her new house. He didn't say much beyond that though and when they arrived he disappeared as if he hadn't even been there.

Dinner was laid out for Fren in the house, a selection of meat and fruit that was plenty for the Shatong to fill up on.

Alina for her part slept through the whole meal and didn't wake until the next morning after Fren had woken and a quiet knock was heard on the door.

Guthrie carefully looked into the room, noting Alina moving around, then entered, floating along as he did.

Alina took one look at Guthrie and immediately looked away, angry at the being who was trying to replace Varren. Alina had decided she hated Guthrie by this point, the way he looked at Fren, the way he reminded her of Varren... She was mounting every bit of blame she could on him, and whenever she even looked at him it was like a furnace of hate.

Guthrie got the message immediately, and it was even eared when he tried to say hello and he instead got a glare that could melt glaciers.

"Ok, Fren, we uh, we need to finish the one tablet today. G-Gentle wants some ideas on how to begin implimenting the-the ideas the tablets have." He said, giving a small cough after Alina's stare.

Fren nodded and got up up. She finished the day studying the tablets with him as she held Alina's sleeping form. She nodded and gave Guthrie a smile as they made there way back to the new house. She had her dinner of meats but did not touch the fruits as they where plant matter, something her kind where completely unable to digest.

She went to bed with a sigh and went to sleep with Alina curled up beside her.

The next morning Fren had gotten up early and was going over some line of the tablets in her head till she heard Guthrie knock. She went over and let him in. Though once Alina saw him it was hard to miss the distain on the hatchlings face. Fren frowned at this. She said good morning to Guthrie and nodded as he told her what Gentle wanted. "I'll be right with you, you go on ahead, I'll catch up." she said with a nod and smile "I need to start dealing with something before it manifests too much." she explained.

Once Guthrie left she looked at Alina and came over and crouched to be closer to the hatchlings level "Ok I know he's not Varren, he never will be, and I see where your going with this Alina. I did the same thing when I was your age, I too found someone to place the blame on. And your doing it with Guthrie. Guthrie had nothing to do with with Varren Alina, he won't ever replace Varren either. He might like me, and I might like him back....... I'm unsure I don't know how to tell, but the point is, he will never be a replacement for Varren, Alright?" she said not sure if her words would make it through the hatchlings mind for now. But at the very least she hoped she placed a seed of thought into the hatchling to at least no glare at Guthrie. "I got work to do today, and he works as my coworker Alina, he gets nerves easily, I need the glares to stop at least in the work zone." she requested before standing up.

Alina bristled angrily when Fren told her to lay off of Guthrie, and began shaking her head before Fren had even finished speaking.

"He's trying to be Varren!" She said. "He tries to look like Varren and he's trying to be with you like Varren should! I don't want you to be with him! You should be with Varren! And fuzzy and Kara should be here and we should live here and be happy!" She said, tearing up again as she got angrier and angrier. Anyone could tell that she was shifting the blame of anything she could onto Guthrie and even Fren now, and was dealing with a number of other issues as well, including her lack of real parents.

"You can't like him mommy, he's just trying to take Varren's spot!"

Fren looked at Alina starting to lose her soft eye's as Alina told her who she should be with. That was going too far. "Alina enough." She stated sternly suddenly. "Your young, thus these things are hard to comprehend I understand that. Perhaps Varren and I should be together. But he is gone and he only lives in our memories. As does Kara as well, Jak is still out there but there is nothing we can do for him right now." she said sternly knowing this most likely will get 1 of a few responces from Alina. "Guthrie can only take Varren's place in your heart if you allow him too, He can't otherwise and frankly, he cares too much, on top of I doubt he could harm a fly that eats his food." she said firmly "Kara gave her life so that we could remain Alina, as did Varren, We are here able to live and make the best of what they gave us. Life must move on, we can not dwell on what happened and wished it never did. Life and death is natural, just sometimes...... rushed." she said before sighing and closing her eye's "Alina, I can only hope you'll understand what I'm trying to say. I wish we could all be here too, but right now its a wish that we cannot make happen. Thus to not destroy our selfs...... much like I did to my own childhood, we must move forward. For me, part of that is finding a mate. And with Varren gone, I must look towards another." she said "You already have started to make a new friend, Pedals, she likes being around you and cares a great deal about you, yes shes not Kara, but I'm sure Kara would like you to be friends with Pedals if you allow it as well. As I'm sure Varren would want us to make do with what we have and to move forward." she finished off saying before looking at Alina "I can't make the decision for you though, its up to you if you do."
