It USED to be tied to Whitsun, but the variable date of that was a nuisance to workplaces, which of COURSE take precedence over tradition ! When I was a child, it used to be held on the day-off in the Christian calendar after Whit Sunday / Pentecost. I also don't see why May Day isn't PROPER May Day - as in May 1st; Workers' Day ! If they move everything for admin convenience - I await the removal of Christmas to - say - the last Friday in December, so that they don't have to give us an extra day off.... If they time it right they could conflate the holidays for New Year with it and cut it all RIGHT back.... Ya know, becpase BUSINESS is all that matters.... Share this post Link to post
