That's definitely not correct. I talk to all the villagers I want to keep every day, help, gift, etc. The time before last, I had everyone ask to leave except the ones I wanted for a while. I did find out, though, that you have to talk to them once to get their moved in talk before they will leave. I was wondering why Lopez has never asked to leave(and now that I think about it, has never run up to me or anything like that) and I'm pretty sure it was because I hadn't ever spoken to him since he moved in. xD

I usually talk to all of my villagers every day, even if I eventually want to find someone to replace them with.  So far, I get the most requests to leave from the villagers that I really like and don't want to leave.  Every once in a blue moon I'll get one of the others asking if it's alright, but usually they're happy on my island.
