In the Depths of Madness (OOC)

Recommended Posts

It is sometimes said that there is nothing within the guts of our world worth finding, since humans are so enamored by the light of innocence that they wish to forget the truths which formed it.

For reasons beyond mortal understanding, Earth has served as a battleground between the great powers of the cosmos, who have a keen interest in the flesh-bound creatures known as humans, as they are often the preferred instrument of their wills. It is not often that these wars end well for their proxical combattants...

Welcome to the Depths of Madness, a Lovecraftian dungeon crawling roleplay.

Setting

The world of Depths of Madness takes place in a medieval world similar in many respects to our own. Most people still use steel weapons, and mastery of gunpowder but not electricity has been achieved. Most people do not know how to read or swim (lack of education runs rampant).

Ah, but what about the arcane arts? Magic of many sorts exist, but generally require years of prolonged study to acquire innate ability for. A much easier way to get your hands on magical abilities is to find an artifact of some sort (such as a wand, staff, or other weapon) that has been enchanted. This will result in a simple yet effective spell readily available to the wielder. However, such tools tend to be both rare and expensive.

Societies are organised in a feudal system for the most part, the New World and Oceania remain undiscovered. Furthermore, monsters also exist: everything from dwarves to dragons are both real and dangerous, so the populace is armed accordingly. Also in existence are deities of various sorts: a few wish to aid humanity, though many are also subject to worship by the aforementioned sentient monsters, and some others (which for simplicity's sake I shall refer to as the Old Ones) have motivations which cannot be fathomed without going insane or simply dying.

The phase of the moon is a waning crescent. The season is fall. It is the twenty-first day of the tenth month in the year 806 of the Common Era (that which is currently dominated by human countries, as opposed to regional tribes).

Plot

You and a number of other people awaken after a rather fitful sleep in a crypt deep underground, without any idea of how you got there. It soon becomes apparent that forces beyond your control have put you into this position, largely by the means of a mystical book of incantations. This particular tome is in fact conscious, going by the name of Gohrm, and acts as an intermediary between the humans and the Old Ones.

Seeking to resolve conflicts amongst themselves, the Old Ones have chosen to test human might against their monsters, and have trapped them in a vast labywrinthian complex from which they cannot easily escape. In fact, the only way they can leave is to defeat the most powerful monster the Old Ones can summon in the physical plane without causing interdimensional chaos.

Rules

  • Use common sense. If you aren't sure if you should be doing something, ask or just avoid doing it.
  • Discuss your ideas with everyone instead of simply springing them on us as a surprise.
  • The only person who controls Gohrm, the NPCs and the dungeon is me.
  • Don't godmod or powerplay. (This having your character control others or do something that should be beyond their abilities.)
  • Submit all sheets to the OOC in reply format, rather than PMing them to me.
  • I'm in charge of everything, and as such I have the final say. (Excepting moderators, obviously.)
  • Do not join if you can't consistently reply. If you stop participating, the RP will move on without you and your character will die. (Probably a week or more is considered inactive.)
  • If you are going to be inactive but still intend to participate in the role-play, let us know beforehand so we can find a way to reintroduce your character upon your return.
  • If your character does die but we are too far in the roleplay to introduce human characters, your dead character may return as a ghost to haunt the humans (please confer with me on this).
  • Follow the forum rules.
  • Don't make characters that are overpowered.
  • Every character must be human. Furthermore, magic use should be limited, as much of is relegated to enchanted objects and weaponry.

Inspirations

This roleplay is largely inspired by the PC title Crawl, developed by the two-man indie development team Powerhoof. It provides the core of the plot: The dungeon, monsters, traps, weapons, and action. Basically, the stuff that makes the whole roleplay tick. The Old Gods of the game are inspired themselves by the various deities of the Cthulhu mythos invented by H. P. Lovecraft for his horror fiction writings, though there are Old Gods in Crawl as well and you may choose one to be the patron of your character (each also has a perk for their follower, but it isn't necessary to emulate this in the roleplay). Gohrm the possessed book is a nod to the Necronomicon, though the character himself is my own invention, and (thankfully) cannot be read as a book of eldritch incantations. However, I had to come up with some details myself. The setting is entirely based on my own observations about the game; magic having replaced industrial development suggests the technologies of the age are largely medieval in nature. They also have a website which has several trailers for the game on it, to help get a feel for the general atmosphere.

Magic: Continued

There are a variety of weapon enchantments to be found: Blessed makes the wielder grow stronger, flaming or glacial weapons may set their targets ablaze or freeze them solid. While somewhat less reliable, a toad curse weapon can polymorph whatever it touches, though this can also include the user. A corrupted weapon is extremely powerful, but drives the wielder mad.

Along the more direct magical paths are spells such as the sun ray magic, which fires a beam of bright light. The spikewurm and speartrap enchantments create pointed hazards from beneath the ground. Bloodstrike summons three giant swords from mid-air. Cyclone conjures a small tornado to devastate enemies and ice path creates stalagmites of ice shards, while the boulder and rat glyphs will launch large stones and rodent souls at targets.

Of course, there are also simpler and more complex magics to be had: simple wands and staves are generally limited to a single spell (though with a greater variety, such as healing) while not being durable enough for much else. Some magic, such as necromancy, is much harder to pull off but can easily overwhelm an unprepared opponent.

Accepted Characters

Coryn02

Name: Amos

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Appearance: A man wearing a tarnished, tattered cloak and chainmail beneath. He has a rather distant, suspicious quality to his face, as if he's always thinking about something else. Amos' hair is black and short-cut, and his hands are very worn and rough from years of work. He is rather muscular, but his cloak hides it well. He has facial hair growing on much of his face, but shaven to stubble at the moment. Amos bears only a crossbow, keeping the bolts in a quiver slung across his back.

History: Amos was once a simple hunter, known in his home village for being quite skilled. He once had a wife and son, who were spinner and soldier respectively, but his son had died of disease, and his wife drowned herself in grief a few months later. Setting out alone, Amos sought to make a new life for himself in trying to help others, starting by exterminating wolves on the behalf of peasants. He found little work, and food was hard to come by. On a particularly rough night, Amos took a nap beneath a willow tree, and the next day awoke in a darkened dungeon.

Personality: Amos is a jaded and quiet individual. He thinks very much of his own priorities before anything else, but is willing to help people where he can. Being quite sad about the tragic passing of his family, he tries not to talk about it, both thinking that nobody else cares and that it causes him too much pain to remember. This leads him to becoming an isolated individual, even among others. Amos likes being able to support himself, and dislikes people who live in the heights of wealth for their ignorance and scorn of those who had to earn their quality of life.

Skills: Amos is a very good shot with his crossbow, and knows how to fire several bolts in quick succession. He is also physically strong from helping others with their errands, and has a good eye for detail from many years of tracking game. (He can also track.)

Other: Overall, Amos is a sad soul who tries to be unfeeling so that his past pain won't come back to haunt him. It doesn't really work, but he thinks it does. Let's hope he remembers enough in case things go poorly in the dungeon.

Riath

Name: Rinharl

Gender: Male

Age: 23

Appearance: Rinharl has short, dark burgundy hair. He's completely clean shaven and has a childish, mischievous look that makes him appear to still be in his late teens. He usually has a wide smile on his face. His typical clothes consist of a dark black tunic with a hood, gray gloves and navy blue pants. He usually wears footwear with padded soles, to stop the sound of his footsteps from reaching anyone's ears.

History: Raised in the slums, Rinharl started providing for his family at the age of 12 the only way he knew how. It started small, stealing a loaf or two from a bakery so his mother could eat and his deadbeat father could have a full stomach during his drunken tempers. His three younger sisters were reliant on him too, and he became the sole breadwinner (literally) of the household. He would take on the personal responsibility of making sure the whole family ate three meals a day. Sometimes he would even get his father a bottle of mead, and other such luxuries for the family.

When he was 14, he took to stealing things of real value. Things like necklaces, rings, gold coins out of someone's pocket. He became more and more daring, eventually sneaking into a local lords estate and robbing his safe. He used the substantial amount to move his family out of their creaky old house, into one in the middle class district.

His thefts got more and more brazen, though he never got caught. The one time he did, he was forced to stab the guard in the leg and flee without his prize. When he was 17, his sisters got jobs as barmaids in a local tavern, and his father turned over a new leaf and found a rather well-paying job. With the new income flowing in, Rinharl's family urged him to quit thievery. To find a decent job and steer himself away from a life of crime.

But by then it was too late. Rinharl's need to provide for his family had turned to obsessive kleptomania over the years. Determined to prove himself, his kleptomania took on new levels as he stole things of exponentially increasing value for his family. The obsessive stealing soon led to consequences. When he was 23, he was arrested by a squad of guards. Unable to escape, he was thrown into prison and was to be hanged for his crimes. However, on the morning of his execution, he woke up in an underground crypt, with no idea how he got there...

Personality: Rinharl acts friendly to most people he meets. However, this is usually a facade to gain their trust and steal their belongings. The first thing he notices about a person is where they keep their wallets. Rinharl is very protective of what he steals, resorting to lying and violence to keep his haul. He has a tendency to focus on wealth above everything else, and will steal with no regard for the consequences it can have on himself and the people around him. Due to his upbringing, he trusts nobody but himself, believing that it's every man for himself.

Skills: Rinharl is good at going around unnoticed. He knows how to blend into crowds, and how to walk with minimal noise. He's also skilled with his words, and a capable liar. Obviously, he's also extremely good at stealing.

Other: He usually carries four iron daggers. Two for stabbing and two for throwing. (Not sure if I'll be allowed to bring this into the dungeon though.)

Chandra

Name: Chandra Lespin

Gender: Female

Age: 28

Appearance: Chandra has dark brown hair that looks black at first glance. She has fair skin and wavy hair. Her eyes are hazel in colour with specks of amber. She is five feet and six inches tall and has a slender build. She wears extravagant dresses when in public, but in places where it is just her, her brother, or her mother she can be found in borrowed attire from her brother as the clothing is more convenient. The clothing she borrows generally consists of a brown vest, a tan undershirt, and brown pants. There is generally a sword by her side. The sword is long in length and has multiple designs on the hilt. It's silver in color and the handle is a deep red.

History: Her mother, Evelyn was the daughter of a lord and was married to the son of another lord, Charles. Three years after they had Chandra, Evelyn gave birth to Connor. Charles accused Evelyn of cheating, as he had not done anything to impregnate her. Evelyn threatened to reveal how Charles had scammed many other rich families when making deals if he ordered for her to be beheaded for cheating. Out of paranoia and ignoring the more rational side of his head saying that no one would believe her, Charles sent Evelyn to be a farmer. He gave her a new name and sent her off, telling everyone he knew that Evelyn had died. Connor was sent off with Evelyn while Chandra stayed with her father. Her father controlled every aspect of her life, from clothing to when she could leave the house. However, Charles did spoil her and praise her for everything she did eventually giving her a god complex.

Charles trained Chandra in sword fighting as he was scared that Evelyn would come back for revenge and Chandra would not be able to protect himself. Chandra was a fast learner and once her tutor said that he had taught her all he could, her father gave her a sword to call her own.

By sixteen, Chandra realized the little freedom she had and snuck out to find her mother. All she knew was her brother's name as she never learnt what her mother's name was changed to. While her father was busy with guests, she would sneak out of the house and ask the locals if they knew a widow with a son named Connor. After two weeks of searching she finally found her mother and brother and quickly bonded with them.

After a year of Chandra complaining about how difficult it was to sneak out of her house with a dress on, her brother gave her his clothes. Chandra would sneak back into the house in them and have a maid who she trusted help her put on a dress before her father saw her.

Ever since she was sixteen, Charles tried to get Chandra to marry someone, however, she would always complain so much, and be on her worst behavior when they would come to visit, that they would leave. Charles finally had enough when she reached twenty eight and told her she would marry a man and the first time she would see him would be at the alter. She fell asleep in her bed with her brother's clothes on for comfort, but when she woke up the next day she was in the dungeon.

Personality: Chandra's snarky and smart-witted though she does it in a way that flies over most people's head as to not get in trouble, unless you are of no importance, of course. She is used to getting her way and will complain until she does. Chandra is used to being the only child and does not work well with others. However, she does care for others deeply once you earn her trust, respect, and friendship which is a difficult task. If you annoy her, inconvenience her, or break her trust, she will treat you as little more than a pesky bug. Either determined to destroy or ignore you.

Skills: Chandra's good at negotiation, manipulation, and quick, on your toes thinking. She learnt these skills from her father, and the last one from avoiding getting caught sneaking out by her father. She is very persistent and is determined to get her way, whether it is good for her or not. She is exceptionally well at using her sword, she would like to brag and call herself a master, but she still has a bit to go to get there.

Other: None.

Doctortear

Name: “Octavia” Cana Wayward

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Appearance: Cana is a rather tall individual, standing at around 5’9” (around 180cm). She’s incredibly lean with a short torso and long limbs. She has pale olive skin with light pink undertones. She has a small face with a tiny nose, flushed cheeks, thin lips, and high cheekbones. Her almond shaped eyes are a light brown with thin eyebrows arching above them. Her long black hair is wavy and ruffled in a stylized fashion. The hair itself reaches all the way down to her lower back when free, but she Cana often keeps it in a long braid that is pulled up to her mid-back with a red-brown ribbon tied within the braid. Cana wears a stretch, lace, russet red crop top that firmly grasps her chest. The crop top cuts off right above her stomach and exposes her shoulders. White lace curls around the top in a elegant sequence of swirls. A matching of what could be considered sequin maxi skirt made with a thin see-through cloth grips Cana’s waist and crawls down to a little above her ankle. She has short pants hidden right underneath her skirt that compliments both the design and color of her top. Cana adorns white ballroom-like shoes. Cana wears white arm sleeves with thin fabric attached to it. She carries around a long lance with decorative designs etched into it. A ribbon much like the one she wears in her hair is tied around the lower end of the lance.

History: Cana lived her entire life in a group of performers called Wayward. She was the eighth performer to be raised from infanthood in the group, hence her stage name “Octavia”. As she was raised by the other performers in Wayward, Cana never knew her parents. Whether her parents left her on the side of the road and she was picked up by Wayward or if the group was strolling through day, saw her as an infant, decided she’d be lovely addition to the group, and snatched her away, she doesn’t know nor does she dwell too deeply on the matter. From the moment she could walk without face planting into the ground five seconds later, Cana was taught how to dance. Cana adored dancing and spent nearly every day practicing. As Wayward never hired any bodyguards, each member was taught the necessary skills they needed to survive on their own. When she wasn’t vigorously practicing a new dance, Cana was learning the how to both prepare raw ingredients, ranging from cutting wild vegetables to cleaning a rabbit, and cook them with whatever was laying around. She took a particular shine to cooking and was often asked to cook for the night by her fellow performers. She learned the basics of self defense was became proficient in using a lance although she was always quick to end sparring in fear of getting hurt or accidentally hurting her opponent or a nearby spectator.

Three months after Cana’s twenty-second birthday, Wayward got hired by a shady mage who lived in an inconspicuous forest off in the middle of nowhere. Wayward was initially going to reject the offer, in fear that traveling to such a remote location may bring harm upon performers, but when the exact price was brought up, the group decided that the payment was worth the trip. Cana was setup to perform for the mage first along with a few of the veteran dancers while the rest of the company, per the mage’s request watched along with him. Though suspicious, the show went on and when it came time to perform, the suddenly stood up, ranting something about stealing children and the veteran members needing to settle some kind of debt. The mage activated a glyph etched into the stage and a column of white light engulfed both her and her fellow performers. The last thing she remembered before her entire world went dark was the laughing of the mage and the horrified screams of her family watching in the audience below.

Personality: As one might suspect at first glance, Cana is a timid individual that has a hard time communicating with others. When dancing, Cana is completely confident in herself and loves to mesmerize and please her audience. When talking to the members of said audience, however, Cana breaks down and finds herself to be a stuttering mess. She tries her best to be cordial to everyone she speaks to, but she often finds it hard enough to even look them in the eye without getting flustered. Although she is highly analytical and has very strong opinions on a plethora of subjects, Cana often feels like she’ll offend someone or embarrass herself if she spouts off everything that wiggles into her mind so she often tries to be mutely neutral at all times and act as a medium between two different sides of an argument. She absolutely loathes being in charge and is quick to thrust the reign of command at the nearest person who seems even the slightest bit competent. Cana is easily impressed, especially by feats of magic or acts of bravery. Although she may be highly critical of herself, Cana is quick to assure others that they did nothing wrong and they should be content with themselves. Oddly enough, Cana is prone to becoming infatuated with just about anyone at random intervals. She can crush on several people at a single time and said crush can last anything from a few minutes to a few months before she can finally squish the feelings she so desperately wants to dispose of. Should someone confront her about her infatuation of them or someone else, Cana is far more likely to bury her face on her hands and find an excuse to flee from the conversation and pursue her interests.

Skills: Wayward prided itself in teaching each of its members how to survive on their own. As such, Cana has been taught the basics of self defense and is proficient when using a lance (although she is far more likely to run away then pick up a weapon and fight when it comes to fighting both friendly sparring partners and interdimensional monsters). Her cooking skills are superb and she can make a decent meal out of just about anything. She’s a dancer in her prime with not only a lifetime of training on her belt but also her natural talent making her a brilliant dancer and, with the addition of her wonderful singing voice, a spectacle to see. With all the practice she put into dancing, Cana has proven herself to be not only flexible but decently strong as well.

Other: When she first wakes up, Cana will be slathered with makeup made to pretty her up for her performance. Although her clothing is tailored to allow Cana to dance with ease, it does poorly in a dangerous environment. Along with being great at cooking. Cana can make decent tea as well and loves to make a cup in order to calm her nerves.

Felixr2

Name: Mygon Agh'Nahgal

Gender: Boy

Age: 15

Appearance: About 1.7 metres tall, muscle size slightly under average. Short blond hair and eyes as blue as the ocean. A bit ripped clothes made of brown rags, but leather shoes. Carrying a bow that he got from his parents at his thirteenth, he looks like a skilled hunter.

History: He was 3 years old when he befriended a wolf. Not wanting to frighten his parents, he kept it a secret. Mygon sneaked into the forest once a week and started to call the wolf Agh'Nahgal, he hadn't really learned any language yet and this was the word he decided meant something in between "father", "brother' and "friend". Later this name became only the wolf's name, the wolf was Agh'Nahgal, nobody else could be described like that. Not after so much time.

At his 6th year he made himself a dagger from some wood branches and a sharp rock, so he could fend off threats himself, rather than relying on the wolf whenever he's in the forest. For the shape of the rock he looked at the wolf's teeth and claws, as he noticed those were efficient weapons.

When he was 13 his parents found out he was going to the forest once a week to see a wolf again. They knew it was too late to keep him away from there, but they didn't think a dagger along with help from a wolf would be enough, so they gave him a bow to protect himself and taught him how to use it.

At his 15th birthday he went to the forest again. He got chased by a dragon. This adolescent wyvern had already devoured his dear wolf before noticing Mygon. To commemorate the wolf he decided to bear it's name along with his own name. While running from the dragon he lost his dagger and eventually got trapped in the web of a giant spider, a web that contained neurotoxins that made him faint. Just before he blacked out he was sure he was gonna die, either being eaten by the dragon or the spider.

The next morning, he guessed, he didn't know the time, he woke up in a dungeon and was completely disoriented.

Personality: He is a brave hunter that will never leave an innocent person up to his fate, he will always help endangered others, or if they're enemies he'll kill them quickly to spare them from the suffer. Because he's been isolating himself so much it's hard for him to trust someone, and even harder to start caring about someone.

Skills: He does pretty well at sharpshooting, but in the forest he also learned the know-how for selecting non-poisonous foods.

Other: Due to lack of melee weapons he is bad at close-combat fighting, he lost his dagger while running from an adolescent dragon trying to eat him. He can use his arrows melee, but this isn't very effective. Mygon has a fierce hatred against dragons, as his first, and yet only, encounter with one lost him his only friend, the only one he trusted.

TehUltimateMage

Name: Rupert Smithson

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Appearance: Tan skin and dirty blond hair, grown just long enough to reach past his ears and pull into a small ponytail. He sports a short and sparse beard and thick eyebrows over cold grey eyes. His face still has some of the softness of his teen years but his body is that of a trained man. Rupert's plate armor is of light metal and polished steel under a white tabbard decorated with golden embroidery. It appears to be more for show than for actual utility, but all the parts (pauldrons, breastplate, vambraces, greaves) still provide adequate protection. His sword hangs on a belt from his right hip and his buckle shield from the left.

History: Like his father and grandfather had been before him, Rupert had taken up the sword -- but unlike them, he chose the path of a knight rather than that of a mercenary. When he was still a child, he expressed interest in living in the capital under the wing of noble relatives rather than the humble rural life his family knew. Life in the city was difficult and the injustices greater than in the countryside, for there were many people less fortunate than he. With an idea of what he wanted to ultimately achieve, he joined the city guard when he was of age and soon ascended the ranks through his display of skill and dedication.

He awoke in the dungeon the dawn before the ceremony honoring his promotion to lieutenant.

Personality: Optimistic, Rupert believes he can change the rules of the world from inside the law, through the applications of Truth and Justice. He has a vast sense of ultimate destiny and frequently re-convinces himself of his long-term goals and of the overarching morality of his actions. He is a philosophical individual who likes to chat and discover the stories behind the people around him.

His self control is admirable during those moments where he would have to interact with aristocracy, although he becomes more passive when he knows they outrank him. Among closer company, he is much more vulgar that he initially appears, but he takes care to respect to both those above and below him in professional situations. He is stubborn in the sense that it is difficult for him to recognize deception; his honesty and faith in what is right is what makes him blind.

Skills: On top of being a gifted and charismatic commander, Rupert is gifted at swordplay.

Thaelsan

Name: Apollo

Gender: Male.

Age: 26

Appearance: A medium-build, 5'10" male with tanned skin, light blonde hair, and grey eyes, wearing what appears to be a length of cloth wrapped over one shoulder emblazoned with the icon of a sun. His pants consist of a cloth-lined dress-like apparel with mail over them. His upper body has no armor currently. His right arm appears to be branded with a strange symbol on the shoulder - a mark in the shape of the Sun.

His right hand seems to be tainted, having turned black and white with some form of corruption.

History: Apollo was the priest of the Temple of the Sun, a legendary religious icon that predated the recorded time of modern man ((to this roleplay anyway)).

The sister temple was the Temple of the Moon. The two Temples worked as one to teach the world of the beauty of Cycles, the word those of the faith used for Days. The Sun needed the Moon as much as the Moon needed the Sun. As such, there was no hatred or animosity between the temple goers.

Apollo himself loved a priestess from the Temple of the Moon, a fair maiden named Artemis, who - like himself - had been forced to serve. However, as a priest and priestess, they were both forced to be chaste, and romance was frowned upon. Still, Apollo yearned for her, speaking poetry for her in secret and trying to visit her when he could.

As the corruption - or, merely the influence - of the Elder Gods spread across the world, Apollo was chosen alongside Artemis to head to the lands where the Elder Gods were spoken of in whispers. They believed through prayer and devout work, they could relinquish the Old Ones' holds on the people who offered to them.

But they were far outmatched. They fell within the grasp of the very Old Ones they sought to seal. They awoke within the dark catacombs, with only each other for company.

There, within the dungeons, they came upon two weapons which seemed to call their names, pretending to be "gifts of their gods." Trusting in this, unwilling to believe anything other, Apollo and Artemis grabbed the weapons without hesitation.

The weapons were cursed weapons which asked of a price in return for their power. But they did not realize how devout Apollo and Artemis were. The faith of the two alone was able to quell, but not stop, the curse, which makes them refuse to relinquish the weapons.

Personality: Apollo is a very religious - if naive - man, trusting fully in the power of the Holy Sun that he will be safe - as well as his skill with a sword. His voice carries when he speaks, meaning he is quite loud and doesn't realize it. He's a helpless poetic, trying to create rhymes of anything when someone speaks or himself as well. This trait has endeared him to Artemis, who finds his attempts comedic.

Also, with the corruption of his blade came the Curse of Rage, which means he is prone to a quick temper when the blade demands it.

Skills: Swordsmanship - Apollo, as part of the Temple of the Sun, learned the blade style of his ancestors, the Solar arts. It is a blade style which seeks to embody the power of the sun, using circular, broad slices with large weapons.

Cooking - Apollo was trained as a head priest. As such, he knows how to make offerings as well as cook for everyone else. Sadly, he never became head priest, and may never do it now.

Dexterity - Like Artemis, Apollo doesn't like to wear much heavy armor, preferring speed and offense to defense.

Healing - Apollo's gift from his god is a magical skill which allows him to mend the wounds and pains of those who come to him and are hurt. It takes a while for it to take effect, during which he and his patient are vulnerable.

Locked Potential - Apollo's sword is a cursed one without any power as is. However, it is apparent that it has strength sealed within it. How to unlock it is a mystery. The blade currently resembles a claymore, with a larger blade than usual, requiring huge, broad swings that match Apollo's style.

Other:

Name: Artemis

Gender: Female

Age: 24

Appearance: A slightly muscular woman of roughly 5'7" who wears a length of hair in a braid over her right shoulder, then the rest kept short. Her hair is black. Her eyes are green. She, like Apollo, seems to wear only a cloth-based top armor, slightly like a robe. Her leggings, however, are actually a dress. She, like Apollo, has a Brand on her right shoulder in the shape of a Crescent Moon.

Her right hand is blackened by some form of corruption.

History: Artemis was a priestess of the Temple of the Moon, a religious edifice predating recorded history of man. Their beliefs were in the powers of the Moon, such as moving tides. But, like the Temple of the Sun, they respected their other half.

Artemis was the fancy of a priest of the Sun, Apollo, who met with her in secret each day to speak with her when they could find time. Much to his surprise, his poetry only made her giggle at him, but she enjoyed it.

She liked to be around him as he did around her, though it was forbidden for them to even think of some form of relationship beyond what they had. Still, their young blood forced them to continue to find each other when they could.

That was until the day the Elder Gods earned the attention of the head priests of their respective temples, who sent Artemis and Apollo out together as representatives of their Gods, to find the source of the corruption and end it.

Blinded by acts of salvation and prayer, Artemis and Apollo followed the teachings of their respective prophets and believed the Old Ones to be heretical gods of pagan rituals. However, their journeys proved their folly when they fell within the grasp of the very "Darkness" they sought to seal.

They awoke within the catacombs, with only the other to accompany them.

While deep within the caverns, the two stumbled upon a pair of accursed weapons. Apollo convinced Artemis they must be gifts of their Gods, but she was still troubled. Still, as he grabbed the hilt of his own sword, she placed a hand on hers as well.

Personality: Artemis, like the moon, is a sublime beauty, very unlikely to be the first to act in a situation before she sees all possible outcomes. She hates conversations with people she doesn't know, since other people seem to speak only of unimportant things. As such, her aura may come off as arrogant or rude.

She finds Apollo's attempts at poetry to be humorous, and normally is the only one to enjoy his words.

From her blade, she has earned the Curse of Sorrow, which brings about bouts of sadness and loss of energy when the blade overcomes her.

Skills: Swordsmanship - Artemis learned, under the head priests, the blade style of her ancestors, the Lunar arts. It is a light, quick blade style that seeks to embody the power of the moon, one particular skill reflecting the power of the moving tides.

Divination - Using the innards of animals or other things, Artemis may take a moment to plan the next course of action for those with her. This is the gift of her God. However, thanks to the actions of the Elder Gods, sometimes her forecasts are hazy or incorrect, leading her to secretly begin to worry if her God has abandoned her - a thought which sickens her.

This is her magical skill.

Survival - Artemis was raised on what to do and not to do in situations, which led her to becoming the cautious woman she is today. She can normally tell what sort of fungi are safe to eat, for example, and knows how to make a fire.

Dexterity - Like Apollo, Artemis doesn't like heavy armor. She prefers speed and offense to defense, relying on her blade skill and intuition.

Locked Potential - Artemis' blade is a cursed one which seems like a normal sword besides the corruption emanating from its core. However, it's obvious it must have some sort of hidden power. How to bring it forth, however, is a mystery. The blade currently resembles a curved sort of sword, strangely crescent in shape. It works well with her blade style.

zakku_uchicha

Name: Sienna "The Dancer" Valkruz

Gender: Female

Age: 24

Appearance: At first glance, Sienna looks slender and frail, but upon closer examination she has a well-toned body. One that has seen many days of combat, with faint scars adorning multiple areas. White, cropped hair blends with a pale complexion, emphasizing her golden eyes that are only drawn out more by the dark shadowing around them. Standing just around 5'4" and weighing in at just over a hundred and fifteen pounds, many are often taken by surprise with her stature, but the heavy aura that encompasses her body makes her much larger. As for general appearance, Sienna usually dons tattered pieces of cloth that cover a modest bust stretching to just above her navel yet cropped at the shoulders and leggings that stop just above the knees.

History: At a very young age, Sienna's village was attacked by barbarians, leaving few survivors to be picked up by slavers later on. Sienna was brought to an auction several years later, where a seemingly promising client bought her and escorted her to a large mansion centering the neighboring town. For the first two months, Sienna was nourished back to health and regained the strength she had lost during her time in the various camps, but it had all been a ploy by the Duke to prepare her for something far more degrading.

Thrown into the dungeons, Sienna soon learned why she had been selected specifically. Simply, the Duke had a fetish for young women and girls alike that were thrown into the arena under the pretense they would be released if they survived. Fortunately, Sienna was considered too young to be a participant and was barred from entry for the next five years of her life. One that she didn't take sitting down. Those five years, Sienna trained extensively in the use of a spear and sword, practicing with those who had been in the Arena before and willing to help. At sixteen, Sienna was thrown into her first match, a 2v1 scenario that the Duke was certain she would perish in, but he soon discovered he had made light of his investment. After the first few months, Sienna had built up a substantial reputation and had also earned a unique title, "The Dancer" due to her spinning techniques and flowing weapon techniques.

In her late teens to just after turning twenty, Sienna had seemed nearly unstoppable, but stronger, tougher and larger foes started entering the mix. One match left Sienna in recovery for weeks and should have been a couple months before she was ready to return, but Sienna took up training in the use of a heavier weapon instead, shifting from spears and long swords to glaives and claymores. Before awakening within the dungeon, Sienna had still been fighting in the arena as the Duke's favored gladiator.

Personality: Cold and distant for the most part, having abandoned a sense of compassion after living through a betrayal while in the Arena. Of course, she isn't entirely apathetic and will assist others in learning new techniques or as a sparring partner. In regards to small talk, Sienna will turn a deaf ear and return to her isolation on most occasions.

One of her most notable weaknesses is the compassion she holds towards children, generally placing herself in harms way in order to protect the adolescent. One such incident put her in recovery for several months, but she does not regret the scar she acquired from the occasion.

Skills:

- Combat: Due to over a decade's worth of training and eight years worth of actual combat experience, one could say she's more than capable of handling herself in a fight. With a unique style that's difficult to read and seemingly constantly alternating, most of her enemies didn't know how to deal with her set of skills.

- Endurance: Never knowing whether a fight was going to last for five seconds or five hours, if not longer, Sienna knew she had to build up her stamina. Initially, the training was extremely tiring and she constantly wanted to quit, but she continued her regime even to this day.

- Nimble: Partnering her stamina with her combat skills, adding in her flexibility and reactive timing almost seems expected until a long blade is added to the mix. Being able to retain most of her fluidity and flexibility even when using a blade that seems far too large for her is something Sienna had to train extensively for in order to accomplish her goals.

Other: Sienna will only have a dagger to use upon her arrival.

KuroKishi

Name: Mikaela Weiß

Gender: Male

Age: 14

Appearance: Standing at just 5'0 and with a mostly weak, thin body, Mikaela is definitely not prepared for the Eldritch horrors that haunt the innards of the dungeons made by the Old Ones. Wavy bright blonde hair falls in strands both over his face and at the sides of his head until it ends just past his ears and blends with his cream white skin, whilst large blue eyes are emphasized by small facial features and high-set eyebrows. His clothing contains linings of gold and silver that hint at his heritage but is mostly suited for the cold lands he hails from, consisting of a dark gray leather jerkin over a navy blue heavy wool shirt and brown cotton trousers that end with small black boots - at least, for his right leg, as his left one simply ends in an unusual stump that is stitched shut at the end, just below his knee. To compensate for this, a rather simple but sturdy crutch of oak wood is to be found at Mikaela's side at all times.

History: Mikaela was born into a royal family somewhere in the far north, within a kingdom that was well-known for its frequent festivals and events. Since the moment he could speak and memorize, his parents tried to involve him in the numerous tournament sports that they frequently held - however, as both his older brother and sister were already frequent participants in said tournaments and also were involved in the kingdom’s matters, Mikaela would use that excuse to get his parents off his back and instead live a very mundane childhood. Preferring to spend his time roaming the corridors of the castle, the young prince was well-known among staff both for his free spirit and his nice manners. When met, the boy would always take a few minutes to talk with people, then either continue on his path or run then a quick errand and then move onward. This lead to the staff of the castle becoming very used to the child and entertaining some of his wishes – one of which proved to be a very big mistake.

After finding a map of the castle’s layout during a visit to the library one day, Mikaela learned about the vast catacombs that stretched under the castle and was very intrigued. Every day, a few times a day, the youngster would roam by the guardsman standing before the door to the catacombs and chat with him, occasionally also doing a favor that he requested such as hauling water or checking on a friend of his. In return, he would always request one thing – to enter the catacombs. Though the process was quite lengthy, Mikaela eventually persuaded the guard to give him a quick tour of the castle’s depths. Meeting up with the guardsman as the sun sunk beneath the horizon and night fell over them, the two walked in through the door with lit torches and descended down the stairs.

On the next morning, one of the young maids that woke up early to prepare breakfast was walking past the catacombs’ door when she noticed the absence of the usual guard posted during daylight. Confused, she decided to investigate, descending down the stairs slowly with one of the torches left on the wall. Reaching the landing that led into the catacombs themselves, she was about to turn around when a distant series of sounds and screams caught her attention. Quickly climbing back up in a panic, the young woman informed the whole castle of the commotion – at that point, the royal family had also found out Mikaela was missing and quickly connected both incidents. Sending in a few knights and guards immediately, along with the eldest prince, they stood in front of the door for hours before everyone finally emerged.

Although the guard that was supposed to guard the door was never really found, the prince was discovered propped up against a wall with the blood-stained sword of the guard in his right hand and a torn left leg that was clearly ripped from the knee below with inhuman force, leaving a gruesome mess dangling from his leg’s end. A lengthy healing process was necessary for the physical and mental well-being of the young boy to be stabilized as not only did the wound get infected multiple times, but he had imaginable night terrors as a result of the horrific events within the castle’s depths. Thankfully, the court’s mage managed to both nurse the child back to health with the help of some alchemists and also contributed to his return to normal mental status by teaching him a simple mage light spell Mikaela would use every night to sleep peacefully.

Life slowly returned to normal as Mikaela himself got used to the problem thanks to both his own efforts to walk with a crutch and the efforts of the staff that had taken a liking to the young prince prior to the issue. Though this now meant that his parents could no longer bother him with the tournaments they always spoke of, the turn of fate had now left the boy actually wishing he had acknowledged their wishes and took up the role of a trainee like his other siblings. The wish for the freedom he now lacked was the polar opposite of the lack of interest he had as a child. Going into bed one stormy night and thinking of his future to the sound of thunder outside, Mikaela fell asleep and then woke up in the dungeons of the Old Ones.

Personality: Part of a royal family that was relatively down-to-earth itself, Mikaela is someone that many can relate to and not even notice as a royalty. His speech is relatively simple, much like the children of his age, and the few mannerisms many tried to teach him on the dining table are still not completely grasped and replicated properly. His face bears a slight smile and retains the feeling of a child’s innocence, but it’s easy to notice in both his eyes and stature that he is aware of the negative aspects of life. He is a talkative person, but more in the sense of speaking with many and less speaking a lot, and he is very interested in everything both arcane and magical. Though he often tries to subdue it, Mikaela is prone to being scared by the most miniscule of detail – when faced with proper horrors, however, this evolves to a level of actual terror. Such terror, thankfully, does not make him lash out in panic and do stupid things, but until he considers himself to be safe, he is prone to staying hidden and cowering behind others. His fears can also be used to partially manipulate him.

Skills:

-Magical Experience: Although it only consists of a single spell currently (Mage Light), the spellcraft knowledge that Mikaela has gathered thanks to the court mage prior to his arrival allows him to figure out magical items and texts far more easily than the average person.

-Child's Innocence: By using simple speech and body language he has embraced through his years around the castle's staff, Mikaela is able to swoon almost anyone he talks to. Whether this is due to his childish aspect or a silver tongue, the effects are still present and capable of relative influence on the person's thoughts.

Other: Mikaela is currently not equipped with any weapon and cannot use any non-magical weapons. He is right-handed and has a leather bracer around the lower part of his left leg that can be tightened if the wounds at the bottom ever reopen.

Riath, I like your character quite a bit. While not perhaps as virtuous as other archetypes, it will certainly be interesting to see how well he takes to the dungeons.

The four daggers are perfectly fine; you could probably get away with two, but four is something I'll allow. After all, it's not like Rinharl can hold and use all four at once!

I'll update the Accepted Characters section with your sheet once I get the time later, and then get to work on my own.

This looks really interesting, I'd like to join.

Posting a short WIP before my computer runs out of power.

'Bout time I finished this and threw it in.

Chandra, you said your character's sword was enchanted. While it is good she now has a weapon, this unfortunately brings two more problems:

First, I'd rather be somewhat conservative with magic in the beginning, since it tends to be quite powerful, so you will have to be careful with how you go about this. Second, you never specified how the blade was enchanted; if it was for regular cutting power, then a normal sword will do just fine as none of the blade's properties need to change.

Doctor, Octavia is also lacking a weapon. That said, due to her reluctance to confront danger, I think you could probably get away with it at first. If that is your decision, then I think everything else is great.

In general, consider having a weapon in a monster-infested dungeon like wearing a seatbelt in a car. Do you absolutely need one? No, not really, but you shouldn't be without one.

TUM, I'm looking forward to seeing that sheet once it's done! (Assuming you complete it, you are under no obligation to join.)

Carrying a bow that is enchanted to generate arcane arrows, that have the same properties as regular arrows but grant a neverending supply, he looks like a great hunter.

History: He was 3 years old when he befriended a wolf. This frightened his parents so he was abandoned. The wolf decided to take care of him. Mygon started to call the wolf Agh'Nahgal, he never learned any language and this was the word he decided meant something in between "father", "brother' and "friend". Later this name became only the wolf's name, the wolf was Agh'Nahgal, nobody else could be described like that. Not now the wolf has saved him so many times.

At his 6th year he made himself a bow from suitable materials found in the forest and practiced with it. He had a hard time finding suitable arrows and tried to create some with his own mind.

When he was 13 he mastered the art of arcane arrow conjunction. He never managed to perform any other kind of magic.

Living with the wolf in the forest for 12 years he also developed a lot of skills and instincts that help him survive.

At his 15th he got chased by a dragon. This adolescent wyvern had already devoured his dear wolf before noticing Mygon. He felt like part of the wolf's spirit had suddenly grown part of him, greatly increasing his speed and agility. He was now both in one body, he thought the only way to express that was with two names: Mygon Agh'Nahgal.

Sometimes he trusts on his instincts too much and thus can be fooled this way. He also occasionally gets distracted by things that remind him of the forest, because this makes him homesick. To fight away this feeling he often tells wonderful stories of his life in the forest, which don't always sound completely plausible, but the stories are always exactly what happend in reality. He gets a little angry when people don't believe his stories, this makes him lose his focus a bit.

Skills: He is good at sharpshooting, but in the forest he also learned how to make some basic meals, nothing special, just the know-how for selecting non-poisonous foods and kill possible bacteria or other disease-causers living in the food.

Other: Due to lack of melee weapons he is bad at close-combat fighting, he lost his dagger while running from an adolescent dragon trying to eat him. This is one of the downsides of arcane arrows: they can't be used melee, as if they were spears or daggers, they have to be fired with a bow. Mygon has a fierce hatred against dragons, as his first, and yet only, encounter with one lost him his only friend, the only one he trusted. His mind has grown partially wolf-like, so he'll eat raw meat if it's the only possibility. Due to spending most of his life with a wolf he has hardly any experience with people, so he can't really tell when he's being fooled.

Outside of the roleplay context i want to mention i'm new to RP's and just trying my best to come up with something, i hope it's alright...

I'll have vacation soon so there'll be plenty of time to be active.

Also can someone link the actual roleplay page?

The actual roleplay isn't up yet. Coryn's in his exam week soon, so it will be a week at most before we start, I think?

Name: Mygon Agh'Nahgal

Gender: Boy

Age: 15

Appearance: About 1.7 metres tall, muscle size slightly under average. Short blond hair and eyes as blue as the ocean. A bit ripped clothes made of brown rags, but leather shoes.

All right, Felix, let's get to the matter of your sheet.

I do like your creativity, but I think that you are taking too many liberties. Having the spirit of a wolf within someone sounds rather hard to roleplay.

I also find it very difficult to believe that a human boy who was raised as a feral child by a single wolf could create a working bow without any knowledge of how or any prior training. And magic is usually only obtained through many years of diligent studies, often then only resulting in mastery over a single spell that might not even be useful for combat.

As an aside note, an archer can always just retrieve their arrows, so you don't really need an infinite amount.

I think it was a good first sheet, but not exactly what I had in mind. But then the best way to learn how to roleplay properly is practice, right? I'm not trying to rain on your parade, you have what it takes, so feel free to create another character or adapt what you have into something that won't be too powerful at first.

Alright, thanks for the tips! I'll try to make it a bit better.

Is this a bit better?

I still think the dramatic raised by wolves backstory might need to be changed. I get that you want your character to be notable among the others, but think of a roleplay like a TV show where no one character is the protagonist. With this in mind, the balance of power should remain largely the same.

I changed it so he's now raised by his parents and sneaked out to the forest to see Agh'Nahgal every once a week. It's now his parents who found out he was sneaking to the forest when he was 13 and decided to give him a bow to protect himself, instead of the humble dagger he made himself.

I think the story is now comparable to Rinharl, but instead of going out stealing, Mygon goes to the forest to see his wolf and hunt a bit.

Felix, your character has been approved. And here is my own.

Needless to say, I mustn't approve my own character, but since I am tired I will put it in the main post in the morning. Furthermore, I will also make an IC topic tomorrow so we can get started.
