The Count Project - Vampire Lineage

I have two pairs of CB "original" vampires and I need a reason to have them bite every month. Thus, I am introducing the "Count" vampire lines - the Montagues and Capulets. The idea is that these two clans hate each other and are constantly fighting for dominance by expanding their lines. "Breeders" participate in this conflict by choosing a side and helping their dragons spread their vampirism. This is also a nice way to prevent the low reproductive rate of single vampires from stalling out the project!

Montague Line

The Montague family is the older and more civilized of the two lines. As close to aristocracy as undead can be, they pride themselves in being clever, manipulative, and refined. They are organized into a generation-based hierarchy and have imposed strict rules for member behavior. They frown upon unnecessary violence and prefer enthralling other dragons and using them as cattle to hunting. Their strengths are magic, intrigue, and subterfuge. Montagues consider the Capulets to be barbaric and dimwitted, and thus utter disgraces to the vampire race.

Capulet Line

The Capulet family is the younger and more wild of the two lines. Capulets are the vicious beasts lurking in the dark. Members of this group are independent, unpredictable, and treasure the freedom to do whatever they want with their power. Any attempts to organize them never last long. They love spilling blood and will kill for sport just as often as they kill for feeding. Few species of dragon can compare Capulets in terms of raw physical strength and ferocity. Capulets consider the Montagues to be weak, prissy snobs and want nothing more than to knock them down a few pegs.

Lineage images will be updated / improved if enough members are found.

Types of Members

1) Pure - stayed on the scroll it was bitten on.

2) Lost - abandoned, may become pure if named correctly.

3) Impure - have incorrectly named sires, but can be traced back to an original.

4) Forgotten - may not be added to lineage.

Rules

1) All members of the Montague line must have the title "Count" or "Countess". All members of the Capulet line must have the title "Marquis" or "Marchioness".

2) Clan is determined by which dragon the vampirism can be traced back to.

3) You must either own Montagues or Capulets. Members of both lines should not be on the same scroll (outside of mine, obviously).

4) Lineage members must either be CB or eggs from nice lineages (Thuwed, Dorkface, even lines, etc).

5) You can own as many lineage members as you want and may freeze them.

Let's see how long we can make this line, ne? If the project gets large enough, more lines may be added.

Gen 3

Marquis Sanguis - brairtrainer

A member of the Coven of Capulet Marquis Sanguis lives up to the standard of power his family holds. Though he is loyal to his cave, his first loyalties lie to the coven, and all eggs he is the bite father of are pledged to the cause. He spends his days hunting and training, making sure that his claws are sharp and his muscles strong so that if he comes across one of those villain Montagues in battle he can slay them.

Gen 4

Marquis Verapae - Tiga

Montagues

Gen 1

Count Montague - Count

Pinkgothic is making me look bad! Descriptions incoming eventually, hahah.

Countess Montague - Count

Pinkgothic is making me look bad! Descriptions incoming eventually, hahah.

Gen 2

Count Daedalus - pinkgothic

Count Daedalus is the second pure childe of the Montague line of vampires and a hunting companion of Count Secundus. The two have a relationship much akin to brothers despite their bloodline technically being separate, with Secundus a childe of Countess Montague and Daedalus a childe of Count Montague. Daedalus tolerates his 'brother's' mood-swings, helping him cover up the worst of his slips of civilised behaviour out of amicable generosity - and because his own neck is on the line, since his sire has on a few select occasions insinuated that he's responsible of keeping Secundus in line. This is especially true if the backlash might tarnish the reputation of the family as a whole, which would never be tolerated.

Count Secundus - pinkgothic

As the first pure childe of the Montague line of vampires, Count Secundus is deeply proud of his vampiric heritage and a staunch defender of the Montague ideals in public perception. Normally considering himself far too refined for acts of violence, his precious composure snaps like a meagre twig in vicinity of any identified Capulet, hunting them until he's either irreversibly lost their trail (after which he'll be in a foul mood for days) or until he's given himself the pleasure of slitting their throat. Of course, this doesn't keep a Capulet down any more than it would knock any other Vampire out of stride, but the symbolic value of the gesture keeps Count Secundus content... and his sire quite displeased - if he were not her first childe, she would have him disowned for his two-faced behaviour.

Countess Seraphina - Kurei Chitsu

Countess Seraphina is the first pure female childe of Count Montague. She tends to be very distant and disconnected from the rest of her family, preferring to spend much of her time alone. Unlike her elder brother, Daedalus, she has no interest in helping with keeping the eldest, Secundus, in line, especially when he snaps at the Capulets. The extent of her involvement is she will clean up the mess after her eldest brother has been herded away, to minimize chance of backlash. While she is distant and quiet, she is quite proud of her bloodline, and is quick to anger if her bloodline is insulted. Her preferred method of attacking, though... A sharp tongue and a quick mind, and perhaps a well placed social trap.

Countess Lucretia - Motoki

Count Mortimer - Vain.3805

Count Mortimer is a connoisseur of blood among vampire dragons.  Largely owed to his upbringing in the Montague clan, only the most prestigious of lineages can tempt his immortal palate.  Despite this he still feeds when hungry, knowing that the impure will die and never be reborn as Montagues.

Gen 3

Countess Zewyl - Sethiss

Count Gamma of the Montagues - Painter

Count Leroy - Maef

Gen 4

Countess Azel - pinkgothic

For all her distance in bloodline to Count Montague, Countess Azel is nonetheless a pure Montague at heart. She takes all the purported ideals of the family literally and adheres to the spirit of the (unspoken) law, even treating Capulets she comes across with respect as long as they don't try to physically attack her. While this stubborn adherence to family values comes across as patronising to some, Azel truly believes it virtuous and means no harm to vampire kind with her point of view. Her outlook has Count Secundus in particular sneering at her behind her back - but perhaps he doesn't realise just how cunning and cruel she can be when pushed just the right way, when her so precious composure finally snaps, however exceedingly rare the event. Nonetheless, she's one of the weaker Montagues, largely owing to her lack of thralls and tendency to inoffensively mooch off those of other Montagues, giving her no steady source of power, forcing her rely chiefly on the element of surprise.

Gen 5

Count Gracious - Sethiss

Oh my! I love Vampires, I'm highly tempted to join in on this...

I'm curious, do the clans have motives / descriptions beyond their names? I'd love to have a 'reason' to pick one over the other and something to use for potential dragon descriptions in the line other than the feud between the lines... but of course, don't go out of your way for me, I'm just curious if you have something in mind. biggrin.gif

Don't resist temptation! I could use all of the help I can get!

That's a very good idea. I was definitely thinking about scraping up some motives once I've developed this idea a little more. Who doesn't like a background flavor? I was having trouble coming up with a point of contention though. I can't decide to make it something serious (you killed my brother, we're fighting over a curse, etc) or something lighthearted (no one can remember and we fight just because, we were once pink dragons and they were green, they're from abandoned eggs but we're from cave caught ones, etc). Any suggestions?

I'd recommend something like 'philosophy about how to treat other dragons', that's always a classic, but as you can see, I'm not very creative about this - and it's probably not a good idea, since it's likely to affect how they would bite eggs, and they do need to have an equal chance at it.

Maybe one can have splintered off the other using some radicalist approach to a way of life that the others proclaim to follow (but, in the eyes of the more radicalist family, do not)? Not sure what that would be, but I've used that trope in writing before and it was a lot of fun then... laugh.gif(Just for reference as a better idea of the sort of scope I'm thinking of, when I used it, the 'way of life' was self-immolation - bettering oneself by enduring pain... and by proxy seeking it out. In that narrative, one clan was pacifist for it, the other... not so much. That, uh, resulted in a very one-sided 'war'. >_>; )

(Edit: As a side-note, can I just say I love your avatar and screenname? Count FTW.)

Perhaps it could be the classic vampire struggle of how they feed? One family could only drink blood from willing parties or animals, whereas the other attacks whoever they can overpower. They could diverge more when it comes to turning - the former will only turn doomed, abandoned eggs while the latter group bites every egg they get their hands on. The former group could view their condition as a curse they have to endure for the sake of pacifism, while the latter group could view it as a welcome source of new power and have the ultimate goal of subjugating "normal" dragons. I dunno, I'm just brainstorming here. Thanks, by the way... you are being super helpful! I really do like the idea of them having opposing philosophies.

Pfftha, th-thank you. I'm glad you get the reference!

Wouldn't they need equal chances at biting eggs, though? I mean, I understand they'd have it in practise, with how full the abandoned page is laugh.gif but I'm not sure if it would make sense in-character for the more reluctant clan to end up 'winning' this feud.

Though, honestly, don't ask me what I ultimately think of your ideas, I'm terrible at telling people what to do, even indirectly. tongue.gif I can only help you brainstorm, you need to pick the story! *grins* And I'm certainly happy with whatever backgrounds you pick, as long as there's something to help me pick one family over the other, muhahaha. (Yesss, I'm terrible like that. xd.png)

That's a pretty valid point. I'll think about this for a little while and put something up in one of the beginning posts. I really appreciate you letting me bounce ideas off of you! I'm still just in the brainstorming phase, so this is really helping! Thank you!

I edited a rough idea for each clan into the first post, though I'm not sure if I'll change it yet or not. I think I was going down the wrong road by trying to stick to "good vampires and evil vampires"... this is more different kinds of vampires? And you're better than I am! I wasn't even aware you could bookmark threads. Or are you referring to your browser? pfft

Oh, you were much quicker than I thought you would be. happy.gif; I did mean my browser, yus, though I could 'Track this topic' (link near the top of the page), which would keep me updated by e-mailing me responses to the thread... though I don't use that feature, because my e-mail inbox needs to stay squeaky clean! xd.png

I like what you've got there, that's a very nice dichotomy! (Though do feel free to change it later if you like.)

...now I can't decide which I'd rather because they're both awesome. NARGH. laugh.gif I guess Montague so you can get that egg to a home? user posted image

3) Lineage members must either be CB or eggs from other lineages (Thuwed, Dorkface, etc).

I managed to miss this on my first read (maybe because it should be numbered #4?*), my girlfriend just pointed this out to me. Whoops, I nearly did an oopsie there. Do you mind if I bite nicely lineaged things? It's my habit and I'm not hugely fond of biting caveborn eggs (though I would if you insist, of course <3), since vampires can't breed and I like them having at least some family. smile.gif

* I feel like there's a good-natured joke to be made here about your avatar, but I'm not nearly witty enough to make it!

...yes, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. The pun was begging to be made. <3

(Also, if you want a home for the Montague from Count Montague, I'd be happy to give it a home; would let me bite for the project more often than just once a month, after all. biggrin.gif But only if no one else comes along!)

Any gender's cool with me; I love the male vampire sprites over the female ones, but they're both really awesome, so I'm definitely not going to complain. As long as it's a Montague and not a Capulet *sticks nose up in air* I'm honoured to give a home and teach it the ways of the family line. laugh.gif
