Functionally there is no difference at all.

Esthetically, since CB eggs show no parents, people usually like them better for building lineages because they are starting fresh. Others have just made the decision to collect CBs of every breed as a goal.

There are actually minor differences, but they're limited to a handful of breeds.

 

Black, Dark Green/Vine, and Undine dragons have a chance to hatch as an alt version if they're bred but never if they're CB.

 

A few other dragons have breeding mechanics where the color is determined by the biome of the dragon or the mate and being bred will change that.

 

But aside from those specific instances, yeah, they're basically identical functionally.

The only other major difference that I can think of is that Christmas and Valentine breeds (which are only available around their respective holiday breeding season) are limited to 2 caveborn dragons per scroll. You can collect as many bred dragons of those breeds as you like though!
