Posted October 25, 2021 (edited) Signups are CLOSED This game is just like any old other bingo except we use dragons. And don't have a board; instead, we just count whether or not you have the dragon(s). We're just that awesome. (This is a special side-round of bingo. It only takes half of the points to win. Winner will still get an egg from any of my dragons.) Signing up to Play To sign up, all you have to do is post and let me know that you're in/you're playing/whatever wording you want. State your trophy level, for ease of grouping (No Trophy, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, "Diamond"). For the purposes of our little game, there are two levels for platinum; anything over 4000 dragons is considered diamond level. Finally, you must post your scroll name (no link required). For an explanation of trophies, how many dragons you have to have for each, and what trophy you have, see this help page: https://dragcave.net/help/egglimits. Rules Only players who are signed up may post bingos. Sign-ups will remain open for 48+ hours, depending on the number of players, and will close before the second round begins. You may sign up until sign-ups are closed. There is a 25-dragon minimum to play. As long as a bingo is listed as active, it may be claimed; aside from some flash bingos, each will be available for a set amount of time, starting with and stated at time of posting. Once it is listed as expired, however, it is no longer viable. Dead eggs/hatchlings/dragons do not count as part of the game, unless stated otherwise. Only adult dragons and frozen hatchlings count for bingos, unless stated otherwise. If you move up a trophy level during the game, you don't change your in-game trophy group (if you hit 200 dragons in the middle of the game, you'd still be classified a Bronze). If you do not have a dragon that fits the description, merely wait until I announce the next dragon. Editing is allowed to an extent; posts that were edited over 10 minutes after the original time of posting will not be viable for claiming bingos. If in doubt, repost. If I have posted after the post you wish to edit, please just post again, so I can see what you were going to add. May seem silly to list, but hosts may not play the game while they are hosting. Gameplay At varying times in the day, bingos will be announced in the form of a certain condition (e.g. "CB metallic" or "even-gen tinsel"). If one of your dragons fits the bingo's condition, you can claim the bingo. You can only claim each bingo once. Every bingo you claim earns you the number of points assigned to it. If you get up to a certain number of points (or higher), you win the game. When the first person reaches the required number of points (or higher), everyone will get an extra 48 hours to get their bingos in before the game ends. The winner will be determined by overall points proportional to the player's trophy level. In the case of a tie, the host can either consider the first person who posted a winner or have a tiebreaker round. Bingos will come up at varying times and will remain active for a few hours to a few days at a time; multiple people can claim the same bingo (unless stated otherwise) as long as they all meet the necessary condition(s). There may be multiple bingos up for grabs at one time, so do your best not to miss such opportunities! If the host has gone inactive/unresponsive in this thread for any reason for at least one month, with no new Bingo round posted, players are free to discuss beginning a new game, with a host to be determined by current players. The original Bingo game may continue if the host returns, but the winner(s) will not be selected to host a new game, although they may still request an egg from the host, if they wish. Different Types of Bingos Regular Bingos These will just be labeled as bingos and will be posted by the host in the thread. Anyone playing can claim them. They are up for grabs until the host has posted saying they are expired. Challenge Bingos These bingos will be labeled as "challenge bingos" and will be posted alongside regular bingos. The conditions required to meet such challenge bingos are more difficult or have more specific requirements than regular bingos (for example, "an eighth-gen even-gen", "a fourth-gen stairstep", "a dragon with more than one spriter's alt in it", "a dragon bred on Nov. 1st of any year", etc.). Only one person can claim a challenge bingo. The first person to post a dragon that fits the requirements gets the point for that challenge bingo. Secret Bingos Secret bingos are bingos that are hidden somewhere and will usually (but not necessarily) be labeled with "secret" and "bingo" or "secret" and the breed name. These bingos can be found in my posts within this thread, my profile, and my scroll. Secret bingos can be put in play at any time and may or may not be announced. They can also only be claimed by one person. The first person to post who has a dragon that fits the requirements will get the secret bingo. These bingos are usually pretty easy, usually easier than or as easy as a regular bingo. Flash Bingos Flash bingos have at time limit. For example, I might post a bingo at 4:00pm and say that it ends at 8:00pm; only people who post a dragon that fits the requirements before eight will get credit. Flash bingos are posted at various times of the day to give different people the opportunity to claim them. Cascade Bingos Cascade bingos generally have three or more choices of the same type of dragon. Each successive choice is harder and earns more points. For example, claiming option A earns you one point, while C earns three points. You can claim only one of them. Tricky Bingos Tricky bingos have a set of instructions that you need to follow to work out which dragon is the bingo. These bingos are usually worth 2 points. Co-op Bingos These require two or more people to team up and claim the bingo together. They are usually worth 2 or 3 points depending on if 2 or 3 people team up. The points go to everyone on the team. Competitive Bingos These bingos give a generalized set of conditions, and the person who has had the measurably best match (for example, highest or lowest gen) for the bingo at the end of its activity gets the points. If there is a tie, all tying winners get the points. Riddle Bingos In these bingos, a set of clues that hint at a particular dragon is posted together. Each person who posts the correct dragon gets a point. Ponderous Puzzle Bingos These are similar to riddle bingos, but the clues are posted one at a time rather than all at once. There will be at least 4 clues. If you get it from the first clue, it's worth 4 points, if you get it on the second clue, it's worth 3, if you get it on the 3rd clue it's worth 2 points, and on the last clue it's worth 1. You may guess once per clue but, to prevent copying, you won't find out if you've been right or wrong until the end. Your highest-scoring correct guess will earn you the points, so it behooves you to guess differently each round. Rules to Claiming a Bingo You must announce "Bingo" for each bingo you are claiming. If you do not say "Bingo" for a bingo, it will not count. If you forget to announce a bingo properly, I will remind you and you can fix it so it will count. You may use view, lineage or progeny links for adult dragons. However, if applicable, growing things must have lineage links. Dragons must come from your own scroll only. You can't use dragons from others' scrolls. Your scroll name must be displayed on your dragons' page for this game, so that I can verify you are using a dragon from your own scroll. It would also help to have your scroll link in your signature (especially if your scroll name and forum name are different). Your scroll does not have to be visible, just your scroll name. Dragons that were bred or grabbed the day the bingo was announced or later cannot be used for the bingo. This is to ensure you didn't just breed/grab a dragon to fulfill the bingo. Winning the Game Congrats! If you win, you will receive a PM from the OP of the thread. The prize for winning is that great feeling of winning, the opportunity to host the next game, and a bred egg from two of the host's dragons (and you have to take whatever is bred). If they refuse, you can choose a different pair. Note, however, that some dragons may be bonded to specific mates and others may have waiting lists. Some hosts may allow you to choose from rares, some may not. You may decline the breeding offer and/or hosting the next game. If you don't want to host the next game, you can post in the thread letting people know it's up for grabs. Some Terminology CB: Short for caveborn. A dragon with no parents. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/1pc1j PB: Short for purebred. A dragon with only dragons of the same breed in its lineage. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/ehKyI EG: Short for even gen[erations]. A lineage where all the dragons have two parents of the same generation so it makes a nice triangle shape. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/ay01S Checker: A type of even-gen where all the females are one breed and all the males are a different breed. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/PEdUS Stair/stairstep: A continuing lineage where one gender is always CB, creating a stairstep shape. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/RFR7D Spiral: A continuing lineage where one parent is always CB, but for every other generation that CB is a male and for every other it is a female. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/7lH1X Inbred = A lineage where a dragon appears more than once. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/l2NRC (here, the child's father is also its maternal grandfather) Messy = A lineage shape with no discernible pattern. Example: https://dragcave.net/lineage/ApljF (If you have more questions, see the Lineage Terminology thread.) And that's it! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to post here or PM the host. Former Bingo Hosts 1. Walker (Yay, creator of the game!) / 2. Evilbunny405 / 3. Parakeet13 / 4. Angelstarstar / 5. During his captivity he turned to religion for guidance and after he returned to Britain, he felt that God was asking him to return to Ireland. He trained to be a missionary and returned to Ireland, helping to successfully convert the people from a nature-based pagan religion to Christianity by combining some of their pagan symbols and rituals with Christian symbols and teachings instead of trying to erase them. He created the Celtic cross, which is a combination of the pagan worship of the sun the Cross of Christ. He also used bonfires to celebrate Easter, which the Irish used to honor their gods and he used the Irish clover to explain the Holy Trinity The Irish told tales of Patrick which became more exaggerated over the centuries as it was Irish tradition to spin tales of legend and myth to remember history by. Some stories even claim that it was him who brought Christianity to Ireland. Although he is considered the patron saint of Ireland by popular acclaim, he was never canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church. This was most likely due to the church not having any formal process of proclaiming saints during this time period. We celebrate St Patrick’s day on March 17th which is the day of his recorded death in 461 AD. Post any green dragon with Patrick in its name to claim a secret. The St Patrick’s Feast day has been observed since the ninth or tenth century. It was mostly observed as a religious holiday, which usually fell during Lent and was the one day that Christians could eat meat during the Lent period. It grew in popularity outside Ireland when Irish American soldiers in New York marched in honor of St Patrick on March 17, 1772, which started the tradition of celebrating it in the United States in cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Philidelphia, and other cities that had a high population of Irish immigrants. Over the next 35 years, Irish patriotism among American immigrants flourished, prompting the rise of so-called “Irish Aid” societies like the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Hibernian Society. Each group would hold annual parades featuring bagpipes (which actually first became popular in the Scottish and British armies) and drums and these parades were their way to To this day New York’s St Patrick’s Day parade is the oldest and largest, taking over five hours for all participants to complete the 1.5 mile route. Other cities that started holding these parades put their own twist on it, such as Chicago dying the river green. Around the world, everyone celebrates the holiday by wearing green and eating Irish soda bread, corned beef, cabbage, and champ (mashed potatoes with butter, milk and scallions) One icon of the Irish holiday is the Celtic folklore figure, the Leprechaun. The original Irish name for these figures of folklore is “lobaircin,” meaning “small-bodied fellow.” Belief in leprechauns probably stems from Celtic belief in fairies, tiny men and women who could use their magical powers to serve good or evil. In Celtic folktales, leprechauns were cranky souls, responsible for mending the shoes of the other fairies. November 1st was considered the New Year and marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of darkness and death. They believed that the night before the New Year, the dead returned to the world of the living. They believed these spirits could destroy crops and bring mishaps, but that they could also help Druids prophesize the future, and the Celts depended on their predictions to get through the winter. When the Romans conquered the Celts, their festivals gradually merged together. The Romans honored those that have passed on October 31 and honored Pomona, the Goddess of fruit and trees on November 1st. This is possibly how bobbing for apples became a Halloween tradition. As Christianity began to influence these traditions, the moving of All Soul’s day to November 2nd saw the incorporation of dressing up in costumes and the naming of Halloween, adapted from the term Alholowmesse, or All Saint’s day. European immigrants brought these traditions to America and the country developed its own versions, including sharing stories of deceased loved ones, ghost stories, mischief making and bribing young ones with treats and candy to prevent them from playing tricks on you, which evolved into trick or treating we know today. Dragons love gold and silver, and some here also use elements for various things. Here’s some interesting facts: Magnesium (Element 12, Symbol Mg): Extremely flammable, magnesium was used in early photographic flash bulbs. Despite that, it’s used in cars, airplanes and even bicycles since larger amounts are harder to ignite. Silver (Element 47, Symbol Ag): Of all the elements, silver is the most reflective and the best conductor of electricity, however it tarnishes easily, and so has taken a back seat to some things like copper for electrical conduction. Historically it has always been cheaper than gold, so has been used more in coinage and jewelry for affordability. Gold (Element 79, Symbol Au): All the gold ever mined in the history of the human race would fit into a 60ft square cube. It is the only metal that never loses its color and shine. (King Tut’s mask to this day shines as brightly as the day it was made). It’s also used in electrical contacts since it is resistant to corrosion (always recycle those electronics, you never know how much gold is in them) Sulfur (Element 16, Symbol S) Sulfur is a smelly but very useful element, having uses in gunpowder, manufacturing, adjusting soil pH and medicine. Sulfur released from burning coal, oil and diesel fuel contributes to urban smog and cleaning it from these fuels is a mandatory process. It is a natural occurring element, found around volcanoes and geothermal vents. Ponderous Puzzle 1. I have horns 2. I have dimorphism 3. I have a healthy appetite 4. Otherwise just normal points for lower case. Flash Bingo Uno 2: Expires Nov 7 at 6pm Cave time Round 3 – Sky High Many ancient civilizations have myths about the sky, wind and clouds and the gods/goddesses that created and live among the clouds. Navajo Mythology: Ahsonnutli was the sky father who created the sky and the four cardinal directions, which the Navajo believed each one had a distinct wind which forms the clouds. The clouds were believed to be white swans moving their wings. Egyptian Mythology: Nut was the sky goddess, depicted by a woman supporting the sky with her back. They believed that each evening, the sun entered Nut’s mouth, traveled through her body and was born again in the morning from her womb. Sumerian Mythology: An was the sky god and was depicted as a bull. His marriage to the Earth goddess Ki created trees and other vegetation and it was believed that the Kings of Mesopotamia were chosen by the assembly of gods to carry out the duties and rites established by An. Norse Mythology: Tyr was the sky god who sacrificed his hand to defeat a demonic wolf. In later centuries, Tyr was replaced by Odin. Regular Bingos: 10. Person who has the most number of adult whiptail dragons Round 4 – Uncommon History of Common Things Some did you knows about everyday items and gestures: The first traffic light was installed in London’s Parliament Square in 1868 consisting of a red and green lantern that was manually operated. Shortly after being installed, it exploded and injured the police officer operating it. The traffic light took off after the introduction of the automobile, due to accidents happening between the autos, horse drawn wagons, bicycles and pedestrians at intersections. Garrett Morgan, a freed slave, patented an electric traffic signal, the first of which was installed in his hometown of Cleveland Ohio in 1918. He sold his patent to GE for $40,000. The superstition knocking on wood goes back to ancient Greece and pre-Colombian Americas where trees were considered sacred. If one were to boast about something good happening, it was believed it would certainly not come true. However, knocking on a tree was believed to appease the tree god/goddess and reverse the ill effect of boasting. Merry go rounds have existed since the Byzantine Empire; Archaeologists have found etchings of riders in baskets moving around a centered pole. In the 12th century, explorers in Arabia observed Arabians playing a game they called garosello, in which horsemen throwing and catching clay balls filled with perfume. Losers of the game smelled for days afterward. When the Italian and Spanish explorers brought the idea home, the French revised it, calling it carrousel and making it a pageant where horseback riders speared hanging rings. In the 17th century, knights practiced on mechanical devices that moved by animal or servant, which evolved into hand cranked carousels we know today where riders could reach for a ring. Frederick Savage come up with a patent for making the carousel move by steam power and another engineer came up with the up and down movement to imitate galloping. By the late 1800’s carousels became intricate works of art with many colorful creatures and were common at fairs and seaside resorts. Up to the early 19th century, a fire was started by striking flint agains steel. In 1680 Robert Boyle started a fire by drawing a sulfur tipped splinter of wood through a piece of paper coated with phosphorus, thus creating the first match. Phosphorus at the time was newly discovered and was expensive. In 1805 French chemists made ethereal matched – splinters tipped with potassium chlorate, sugar and gum Arabic, which was dipped in sulfuric acid. When it was pulled out of the acid, the tip combusted and created the fire. In 1826 John Walker was making a mixture of antimony sulfide, potassium chlorate sulfur and gum. To clean his stirrer, he scraped it against a stone and it caught fire, inventing a match lit by friction. These were used with lots of danger warnings until the safety match in 1844 when the more dangerous ingredients were removed from the match and put on the striking surface. The first vacuum cleaner was built by a department store janitor in 1907 who patched a portable version together using an old fan motor, a soapbox and a broom handle. Posted October 26, 2021 I'd like to propose a new type of bingo for this round. I'm calling it Uno Flash Bingo. I'll post a dragon and a time limit. Within that time limit, players post a dragon that matches either the lineage number or color of the dragon of the person you're following, alternating between the two. If you correctly post a dragon, you get a point, if not, no point. You also can't post the same species as anyone before you. Each person can only post once. Example: Host: https://dragcave.net/lineage/FXu5U 4 hours (Color) Player 1: Uno flash 1 bingo: https://dragcave.net/lineage/nrUW5 (number) Player 2: Uno flash 1 bingo: https://dragcave.net/lineage/QP42c (color) Player 3: Uno flash 1 bingo: https://dragcave.net/lineage/f6Btu (number) etc If person 1 posts a dragon, person 2 posts an incorrect dragon, but person 3 is correct based on the dragon person 2 posted, person 3 will still get the point even though the chain broke. (hope this makes sense) Would everyone be okay with this kind of flash bingos this round? Share this post Link to post

Posted October 26, 2021 Round 1: Halloween Halloween originated as a Celtic holiday called Samhain (sow-in). Sure, but can the person who got ninja'd edit their post to correctly continue the chain and still get a point? If there are two posts clearly done at the same time (by person 1 and person 2, let's say), then which post does person 3 base their answer on? I'm probably overthinking this...
