Posted October 7, 2016 And Hurricane Matthew rages on. I'm curious how many people here are close enough to the east coast of the US to feel the effects of Matt's rage? How bad is it where you are? Two hours ago there was the boom of a transformer blowing (or possibly one of the idiots out driving in this hitting a pole) and part of my neighborhood has lost power. My laptop battery doesn't have much left to it but I wanted to get this discussion started before it dies. The wind is so strong it's almost raining sideways and the trees are dancing like crazy. Posted October 12, 2016 I live in Central Florida and if the storm hadn't 'wobbled' to the east I would have had hurricane force winds. There were a few wicked gusts and several tree limbs fell and there was tons of moss and a few shingles fell from the roof, but other than that I weathered the storm just fine. Never even lost power. My aunt and cousin in the Carolinas lost power though, and their garage was flooded. Share this post Link to post
Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) Haiti death toll has risen past 1000 due to Hurricane Matthew. I can't even process this. If you want to donate to help them, please skip the Red Cross, which has a terrible track record with Haiti. Here are some local or otherwise trustworthy places to donate to: HEALTH/MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS St. Boniface Hospital and Foundation (located in the south of Haiti) Website: http://haitihealth.org/ ST. Luke Foundation Website: http://www.stlukehaiti.org/ Project Medishare Website: http://www.projectmedishare.org/ Health Haiti Website: http://heal-haiti.org/ HANA (Haitian American Nurses Association) Website: http://www.hanainc.org/ FOOD AND WATER Food for the Poor in Haiti Website: http://www.foodforthepoor.org/our-work/whe...erve/haiti.html SimbiHaiti Website: https://www.simbihaiti.com ORGANIZATION WHICH SUPPORTS CHILDREN AND EDUCATION IN HAITI Fleur De Vie Website: http://www.fleurdevieonline.org Sow a Seed Website: http://sowaseedonline.org Prodev Website: http://www.prodevhaiti.org/ INFRASTRUCTURE, AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENT Fondation Aquin Solidarité Website: https://hibiscus-haiti.org/projects/fondati...as-park-design/ Hope to Haiti Website: https://www.hopetohaiti.com/ Foundation for Marine Biodiversity Protection Website: http://www.foprobim.org/ Foundation Seguin Website: http://www.fondationseguin.org Growing in Haiti (promoting reforestation and preservation in Haiti) Website: https://www.gofundme.com/growninhaiti NON-HAITIAN ORGANIZATION WITH PROVEN TRACK RECORDS IN HAITI JPHRO Website: http://jphro.org/ Doctors without Borders ( http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/ ) Partners in Health ( http://www.pih.org/ ) I think the death toll for Jamaica is around 200, around 100 for the Bahamas, and 33 for the US. I hope everyone is staying safe. Wishing luck to those of you in or near the hurricane's path. Speaking of which, I need to go PM Lagie. <3 Edited October 12, 2016 by SockPuppet Strangler Share this post Link to post
