The origin of old sprites?

Recommended Posts

The Yoshis are from Mario, other than that I'm not entirely sure xd.png

Most of them are from games I never played (gasp!), so...

The Holly still exists.

That is a Holly which is currently on my scroll. The artist is Silvanon *points at Copy right part* and I know that they are active because my Holly´s dad was bred from their scroll last Christmas.

Though Hollies are really rare as far as I know there are currently around 270 grown up Hollies.

The first dragon on the second row (the gray one) is a sprite from Secret of Mana. :3

As to the others, I have no idea.

Looking at the old sprites, it is obvious that the Holly and Paper are both sprites still in use. Where the came from... who knows.

Paper and Hollies were made for this game by some artists. You can find their names at the bottom of the Dragon´s view page.

Indeed, but I meant that the only original sprites still there are the Holly and Paper, so it is obvious what their origins are. tongue.gif

The one I'm trying to remember the most is the old magi. It looks so familiar and it's driving me nuts! ><

I think the first one on the top is a Bahamut sprite.

Also interesting, the banner at the top of the link page has the original '09 Valentine sprite

The split is definitely from a Final fantasy game...I think it was the second one, but I'm not sure. I think others came from the games as well.

EDIT:

Pink dragon

Silver

Neglected

Red

So a total of 5 are Final Fantasy sprites...and I'm curious about some of the others now. Some look very familiar.

The chicken was actually Harvest Moon. A different sprite is featured on most fansites, but they're just another frame of the animation.

Yoshi is most likely Super Mario World. Yoshi in that game is composed of multiple components, so it wouldn't be hard to make a standing unmounted Yoshi from it.

The Yoshi sprites were custom from http://spriters-resource.com/custom_edited/mario/sheet/17233

I don't know if that's the actual origin of the mint sprite, a lot of sprites (zombie dragon, old hatchling, mint, gray dragon [although I knew that one was from SoM], green dragons, and black dragons) were from avatars on an old visual chat called ThePalace, where people passed around sprites very liberally (probably why I thought it was okay to use them back then).
