Posted September 28, 2010 So long before the current sprites DC uses, there were a lot of recolored copyrighted sprites used. ( http://www.fanpop.com/spots/dragon-cave/im...d-sprites-photo ) That link shows them all! Can anyone properly identify their origins? I'm trying but I can't remember all of them! Posted September 28, 2010 The Yoshis are from Mario, other than that I'm not entirely sure Most of them are from games I never played (gasp!), so... Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 The Holly still exists. http://dragcave.net/lineage/02Ha That is a Holly which is currently on my scroll. The artist is Silvanon *points at Copy right part* and I know that they are active because my Holly´s dad was bred from their scroll last Christmas. Though Hollies are really rare as far as I know there are currently around 270 grown up Hollies. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) The first dragon on the second row (the gray one) is a sprite from Secret of Mana. :3 As to the others, I have no idea. Edited September 28, 2010 by AngelKitty Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 Looking at the old sprites, it is obvious that the Holly and Paper are both sprites still in use. Where the came from... who knows. Share this post Link to post

Paper and Hollies were made for this game by some artists. You can find their names at the bottom of the Dragon´s view page. Share this post Link to post

Indeed, but I meant that the only original sprites still there are the Holly and Paper, so it is obvious what their origins are. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 The one I'm trying to remember the most is the old magi. It looks so familiar and it's driving me nuts! >< I think the first one on the top is a Bahamut sprite. Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 Also interesting, the banner at the top of the link page has the original '09 Valentine sprite Share this post Link to post
Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) The split is definitely from a Final fantasy game...I think it was the second one, but I'm not sure. I think others came from the games as well. EDIT: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Holy_Dr...inal_Fantasy%29 Pink dragon http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Two_Headed_Dragon Split http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Silver_...l_Fantasy_IV%29 Silver http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie_...al_Fantasy_V%29 Neglected http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Great_D...l_Fantasy_VI%29 Red So a total of 5 are Final Fantasy sprites...and I'm curious about some of the others now. Some look very familiar. Edited September 29, 2010 by Wookieinmashoo Share this post Link to post

Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) The chicken was actually Harvest Moon. A different sprite is featured on most fansites, but they're just another frame of the animation. http://www.hmfarm.com/snes/page.php?file=animals http://www.spriters-resource.com/snes/harv...oon/sheet/31563 Yoshi is most likely Super Mario World. Yoshi in that game is composed of multiple components, so it wouldn't be hard to make a standing unmounted Yoshi from it. Edited June 2, 2012 by Lythiaren Share this post Link to post
Posted June 3, 2012 The Yoshi sprites were custom from http://spriters-resource.com/custom_edited/mario/sheet/17233 I don't know if that's the actual origin of the mint sprite, a lot of sprites (zombie dragon, old hatchling, mint, gray dragon [although I knew that one was from SoM], green dragons, and black dragons) were from avatars on an old visual chat called ThePalace, where people passed around sprites very liberally (probably why I thought it was okay to use them back then).
