adding eggs to forum post

how do i add dragon eggs to my forum post

Click your picture/name in the top left, select 'Account Settings', select 'Signature' and add your dragon codes into the textbox on that page.

do the codes have to be links or just the code with parentheses?

i did it to my signature but it didn't work.
